    Police arrest three armed robbers in Kano

    Police in Kano Wednesday arrested three armed robbers after a robbery gang attacked lodgers at Tower hotels located along Igbo/Aba Road in the Sabon Gari area  of the state.

    The Kano state Police spokesman, DSP Musa Magaji Majia confirmed the robbery incident, saying, “three of them have been arrested and investigation is still ongoing to get to the root of the matter.”

    According sources, the robbers who had targeted an ATM machine close to the hotel, invaded the place at the wee hours of the morning and robbed lodgers of their money and other belongings.

    Luck, however, ran out on them when the security guard at the hotel engaged one of them in a scuffle that resulted to the shooting of the security guard.

    A distress call to the police, however, paid off as a team of police men dispatched from the Bomapai police Command trailed the robbers who were moving in two cars to Katsina Road and engaged them in a gun duel that resulted in the arrest of three of them.

    The Police Command in Akwa Ibom on Tuesday confirmed the killing of a mobile policeman by armed robbers in the early hours of Tuesday in the state.

    The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu, who confirmed the incident said, “it is unfortunate that we lost one of our men today to armed robbers.”

    Ikechukwu said the policeman was shot dead by armed robbers who swooped on a van carrying expatriate construction workers in Uyo.

    He, however, said details of his death were still unclear.

    “I cannot tell you the identity of the policeman because I have yet to get the details.

    “I promised to explain the details and circumstances surrounding his death as soon as I am fully briefed,” the police spokesman said.

    An eye witness who claimed anonymity, said armed robbers on Tuesday pounced on a van carrying expatriate construction workers in Uyo and shot dead a mobile policeman.

    He said the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday along Mbierebe junction close to the Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard.

    “They accosted the Hilux van and instantly shot and killed the Police Orderly guarding the expatriates.

    “They also carted away huge sums of money from the vehicle before speeding off firing gunshots in the air to scare away people,” he said.

    He, however, said that the identity of the construction firm could not be immediately ascertained.

    “It was learnt that the affected firm is one of the construction companies fixing roads for the State Government,” he said.

    Armed robbers on the increase in Plateau – CP raises alarm

    The Commissioner of Police, Plateau state command CP Peter Ogunyanwo has raised an alarm of increasing numbers of armed robbers in Plateau state.

    CP Ogunyanwo said the command has arrested at least 50 armed robbers in the last one month in the state.

    Ogunyanwo who disclosed this in a press conference held at the Officers Mess Jos, said, “From May 2017 to date, over fifty (50) Armed robbery and culpable homicide suspects have been put in custody.

    According to Mr. Ogunyanwo, “We regret that car thieft was on the increase in Plateau state, a notorious expert in car snatching were recently arrested in the state.

    “There are reported cases of missing vehicles on daily bases in the state.

    “For instance, On the 16th May 2017, a three man gang of alleged car snatchers were arrested by men of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Jos, Bukuru and four vehicles and a pistol were recovered from them”

    “In other crimes, a man who stabbed another to death is in police custody, one Bulus Dewan male, of Barkinladi was arrested and brought to Barkinladi police division headquarters for stabbing one Dapan Garba Shut, male of Rutaso village in Fan district who died as a result of the injury sustained.”

    The CP applauded the efforts of men and officers of the command and attributed the successes recorded within the last one month to professionalism and intelligent of the men of the command.

    He said the command also arrested and detained a 50 year old man who allegedly raped his five year old niece, and another 43 year old suspected rapist are among the criminals cooling their heels in police cell in the state.

    “One Abdulahi Yusuf, male aged fifty (50) violated his niece one Fatima Ibrahim, female aged five (5) years by having unlawful carnal knowledge of her. In a similar case of rape, one Judith Sati aged three (3) years old was allegedly raped by one Daniel Yahaya male aged forty three (43) years old”

    The commissioner, in appreciation to the efforts of his men in tracking down criminals, presented certificates of commendation to some of his men who displayed some level of professionalism. He also presented an undisclosed sum to the nine police officers who arrested and recover four cars with ammunitions.

    He charged other police officers in the command to work hard as rewards await officers who are up and doing in their duties.

    Mr. Ogunyanwo assured the public of adequate securities, he pledged that police in the state were doing its best to stem the tide in crime and assured every citizen to go about their lawful businesses and be vigilant at all times.

    Police arrest eight suspected car thieves 

    Operatives attached to the Inspector-General of Police’ (IGP) Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have arrested eight suspected armed robbers who snatch cars between Abuja and Suleija.

    Leader of the syndicate, Adam Mohammed, 33, Musa Gana, 34, Okonkwo Kingsley, 23, Mohammed Suleiman, 25, Yahaya Saliu, 23, Awal Zuberu, 27, Mohammed Idi alias Soja, 29, and Haruna Umar, 32, were arrested in Abuja, Suleija and Lokaja by IRT operatives lex by Abba Kyari, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

    The suspects were apprehended on Monday following directives from the IGP Ibrahim Idris that the group be fished out within 72 hours.

    They were said to have confessed to multiple car theft, including Toyota Camry 2010 Model, Honda Accord (E.O.D) car, Mazda saloon car and Hyundai car.

    According to the police, Idi and Umar admitted that they received stolen cars from the armed robbers.

    Confirming the arrest, Force Headquarters’ spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) said efforts are on to arrest other fleeing suspects, recover arms and more stolen cars.

    Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers Thursday caused pandemonium in Owerri, the Imo state capital after they shot a bank customer, who was returning from one of the new generation banks after withdrawing huge sum of money.

    The dare-devil armed robbers shot the victim who was in the car with his wife severally before carting away the cash.

    According to eyewitnesses, the victim was trailed from the bank by the by the gang of three who operated in a Camry salon car.

    It was learnt that the assailants who caught up with their victim before the Okigwe roundabout directly opposite the Government House had shot sporadically into the air to scare away the people and ordered their victim to hand over the money, but when he resisted they shot him three times snatched the money away and zoomed off .

    One of the eyewitnesses, ” I was at the Newspapers stand across the road which is just before the Okigwe roundabout when I heard a gunshot and then two young men who were in a Camry car who  blocked a Man and his wife in another car came out.

    “hey asked the man where is the money and at that moment woman ran out of the car, but man refused to hand over the money to them and one of the robbers shot him three times and still took the money from him. But I don’t know if he was dead but he was seriously wounded”.

    The source further added that “immediately the robbers started shooting into the air that all the Policemen including the NSCDC who were at the roundabout just opposite Government House  ran away and that it was after the robbers had long gone that they came back”.

    Another source who witnessed the incident from a close range,  said that “I was four cars behind the robbers when they blocked the man and as soon as they cornered the man who was inside the car with a woman they started shooting into the air.

    ”  it was when I had gunshots that it dawned on me that those in that Camry were robbers because they had overtook me and I was wondering where they were hurrying to not knowing that they were actually after somebody. Even when they had succeeded in their evil act they kept shooting into the air which sent people running in different directions including the Policemen at the Okigwe roundabout junction”.

    The Police Public Relations Officer of the Imo state Police Command, Andrew w(DSP),who confirmed the incident  said that the victim was confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre Owerri.

    Bello demolishes suspected kidnappers’ hideouts

    Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello Wednesday stormed Okene in the Central Senatorial district of the state, demolishing buildings used by suspected kidnappers, terrorists and armed robbers in perpetrating their crimes.

    Accompanied by the state commissioner of police, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu and other security chiefs in the state, the governor ordered the pulling down of two structures, with more buildings earmarked to go.

    The building of a suspected kidnap kingpin, Alhaji Tijanni Bakare was the first to be pulled down at Oyunkoko ward in Okene LG.

    The enforcement team also demolished the Ahlul-Sunnah Mosque in Inike, which was reportedly hijacked in 2015 by members of the Boko Haram terrorist group and suspected to be serving as operational base for their nefarious activities.

    Speaking at the demolition exercise, Governor Bello vowed to implement the Anti-kidnapping, Robbery and Terrorism law in the state to the letter.

    He warned those that are in the habit of harbouring criminals to repent or have their structures pulled down forthwith.

    CP Inalegwu said it would no longer be business as usual for criminals operating in any part of the state.

    “This is a strong message to kidnappers and hoodlums that they must change their ways. They should work hard and earn a decent living.

    “We want to make Kogi safe so that anyone living here or travelling through Kogi will not have fear of being kidnapped”, he said.

    Two armed robbers have been killed by the police in Bayelsa State during a gunfight in Yenagoa, the state capital.

    It was gathered that a gang of three gunmen attacked the Ankos Supermarket, located at the Opolo area of the state capital at the weekend.

    But the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the police, in a swift response after a distress call, chased the robbers, who were said to be escaping with their loots.

    The robbers engaged the police in a gun duel but capitulated to the superior firearms of the SARS.

    While two of them sustained bullet wounds and were later confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), one of them reportedly escaped.

    Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Asinim Butswat, said the robbers stole N105, 000 belonging to the supermarket, two locally-made revolver pistols and a female handbag containing N10, 000.

    Butswat said “two locally made revolver pistols, with three live .9mm ammunition, one female purse containing N10, 000 and an ear ring, were recovered from the deceased suspects.  Manhunt has been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect. Investigation is ongoing.”

    But the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the police in a swift response after a distress call chased the robbers, who were said o be escaping with their loots.

    The robbers engaged the police in a gun duel but capitulated to the superior firearms of the SARS.

    While two of them sustained bullet wounds and were later confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), one of them reportedly escaped.

    Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Asinim Butswat, said the robbers stole N105,000 belonging to the supermarket, two locally-made revolver pistols and a female handbag containing N10,000.

    Butswat said: “On Thursday 9th March, 2017 at about 1530hrs, three young men armed with locally made pistols, attacked Ankos Supermarket at Opolo, Yenagoa, and carted away the sum of one hundred and five thousand naira (N105,000.)

    “The Special Anti Roberry Squad (SARS) swiftly responded to the distress and the armed robbers engaged the Policemen in a gun duel.

    “Consequently, one of the suspect escaped, while the other suspects sustained gun shot injuries, they were arrested and taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, for treatment where they were confirmed dead. The corpes were deposited for autopsy.

    “Two locally made revolver pistols, with three live .9mm ammunition, one female purse containing ten thousand five hundred naira(#10,500) and an ear ring, were recovered from the deceased suspects. Manhunt has been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect. Investigation is ongoing”.

    The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Special Tactical Squad and the Special Anti- Robbery Squad of Kano State Police Command yesterday killed two suspected armed robbers along Zaria- Kwanar Dangora road in a gun duel.
    According to the spokesman of the Kano State Police Command, DSP Magaji Musa Majia, who spoke to reporters at the headquarters of the Command, the operatives ran into the armed robbery syndicate who blocked the highway with their Golf Wagon.
    Majia explained that on sighting the police, the robbers immediately opened fire, while the police, who quickly disembarked from their vehicles in response to the gun shots, engaged them in a battle.
    He added that, “in the process, two armed robbers whose identities are not yet established sustained mortal injuries while others escaped into the bush with bullet wounds.
    “On the spot 1AK 47 Rifle with 22 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 2 AK 47 magazines, cutlasses and assorted charms were recovered.”
    The Kano State police image maker further revealed that the injured suspects were rushed to the hospital but were confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor on call.
    He enjoined the public, especially residents of Kwanar Dangora and neighboring villages, hospitals and patent medicine stores to report to the nearest police station any person seen with bullet injury for necessary action.

    Robbers kill bank customer in Bayelsa, steal N120,000

    A bank customer identified as Raymond Agada has been shot dead by armed robbers around the Swali market area, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
    It was gathered that the robbers also stole N120,000 from the victim before killing him.
    Agada was said to be on his way to deposit the money in an undisclosed commercial bank in Yenagoa when the hoodlums rounded him up and attacked him.
    A source, who spoke in confidence, said the victim’s sister, a known trader in the market instructed him to pay the money into the account number of her creditors.
    “The late Agada has been running similar errands for his sister. He does it on daily basis. His sister receives goods on credit from her customers and after selling them, she pays the money into the account of her customers, most times through her brother.
    “It is like persons who attacked him had monitored the transactional process for sometimes. It is a pity”.
    It was learnt that the victim was attacked at about 11 am, by a four-man gang shortly after he left the market.
    He was reportedly shot in the neck by his assailants.
    The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident said the deceased was 20-year-old adding that Agada was killed on Tuesday.
    He said the police quickly moved to the scene and rushed to the victim to the hospital where he later died.
    He, however, said that the police identified the culprits and were making efforts to arrest them.
    He said: “On 3rd January 2017, at about 1100hrs, four armed men with a pistol, attacked one Raymond Agada ‘m’ 20 years, of Swali Community, dispossessed him of the sum of #120,000, he was going to deposit in the bank and shot him.
    “Policemen were quickly dispatched to the scene and the victim was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
    “The culprits have been identified and efforts have been intensified to arrest them”.
