    Katsina police nab cattle rustling, armed robbery gang

    The Katsina Statee Police Command has announced the arrest of a 9-man gang who had been terrorizing travelers along Dutsima –Kurfi road, as well engaging in cattle rustling in Zamfara State and other border areas of the state.

    The State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Wakil, who addressed newsmen in his office, said the command is poised to flush out crime and criminality in the state, especially in preparation for the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

    He said: “We appeal to Katsina State citizens, stakeholders and politicians to assist the command in tackling crime and making the state safe for all.’’

    Police arrest 16 ‘vicious’ kidnapping, armed robbery gang

    The Police have arrested 16 “vicious” kidnapping and armed robbery gang terrorising Nigerians along the Abuja-Kaduna road.

    The force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, a Chief Superintendent (CSP), said this while addressing newsmen yesterday.

    The suspects, he said, were arrested in Sabon Wuse in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger.

    He named the suspects to include Ibrahim Umar, gang leader, Isiaka Mohammed and Hassan Usman, Mubarak Adamu, Yisuf Sani, Musa Usman, Yakabu Wakili, Abdullahi Abdulkarim among others.

    Moshood said items recovered from the suspects are: 5 AK 47 rifles, nine AK 47 magazines, two cutlasses, one cell phone and 1,598 rounds of ammunition.

    He said the arrest followed coordinated operations by the Special Tactical Squad operating in the area.

    The spokesman said the gang leader, Umar, confessed to have killed 10 persons during their operations.

    He said further that Umar also confessed that they killed those who cannot pay ransom and drink their blood.

    Moshood, who explained that the suspects were arrested during the yuletide, said it was a huge success for the Nigeria police and Nigerians in general.

    He said the suspects have all confessed to the various roles they played in the commission of the crime.

    “The suspects will be arraigned in court after the completion of investigation,” he said.

    He said the force has evolved new security arrangement to fight and prevent crimes in the country in the New Year.

    Robbers injure seven Ibadan residents

    Barely three days after a seven-man armed robbery gang raided residents of Tells Estate in Akobo area of Ibadan, Oyo state capital, another robbery gang on Monday night stormed Fenwa community in the city and carried out a house to house raid. 

    During the operation that lasted for about four hours, valuable items and cash were carted away by the 15-man armed robbery gang, while about seven residents of the community, located in Ido local government area, were injured. 

    However, members of the Otunba Gani Adams led Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), who stormed the community after receiving distress calls, prevented the men of the underworld from raiding more houses, and captured one robbers. 

    The OPC chairman in Ido local government area, Alhaji Muritala Adekola Ifawale, who led his members to the scene was reportedly shot by the robbers several times, but the bullets did not penetrate into his body. 

    After exhausting their bullets, the robbers reportedly took to their heels, as OPC members chased them and captured one of them who later identified himself as Ojo Adegboyega.

    The OPC members also recovered a green colour Honda CRV with registration number LAGOS LND 667 EU from the fleeing robbers.

    Speaking with journalists who visited the community yesterday morning, Adegboyega revealed that he joined the robbery gang after he was sacked by a company he was working with in Ikeja, Lagos. 

    He revealed further that one Roland Wisdom invited his gang for the Monday night operation in which he met his Waterloo. 

    Also speaking with newsmen, one of the injured residents of the community, Mr. Wasiu Adegoke, revealed that the some of N208,000 and other valuable items were carted away from his house by the hoodlums. 

    Adegoke, who had deep cuts on his head and blood stains all over his body, said he was hit on the head with  handle of the gun (grip) several times when struggling with the robbers. 

     Another injured resident of the community, Mr. Ogun Jimoh, revealed that the robbers  used clubs to hit him on the head after collecting mobile phones from him. 

    According to Ogun, “the robbers also shot at one of my neighbours popularly called Pastor. But God saved him, as he was able to dodge the bullet. The bullet was targeted at his head, but he quickly bent down, and the bullet hit the wall. 

    Chairman of the Landlord Association of the community, who refused to tell newsmen his name, informed that some of the injured people had been taken to hospital for medical treatment. 

    He also revealed that police had been informed about the incident, and that the captured member of the gang will be handed over to the police. 

    The community leader, however, informed that the most frightening thing is that the captured robber boasted that he would soon be set free, even if they (the landlords) take him to the Agodi Prison.

    The Abia state police command said that its men has smashed an armed robbery gang that has been terrorizing the commercial city of Aba while vehicles, arms and ammunition were also recovered.

    In statement issued by the commands Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Geoffrey Ogbonna said that his men in Aba received a distress call that Dan Dollars filling station at Ogbor hill area was being robbed by armed robbers.

    Ogbonna said that the information revealed to them that the armed robbers were escaping through Eziukwu road by the railway line, our men moved into action to confront them.

    He said, “When the call came we alerted our men at both Ndiegoro and the Central police station led by the DPO of Ndiegoro and the commander of the newly formed Tactical Response Squad (TRS) and they moved in to intercept them.

    “On sighting our men the armed robbers opened fire on them and during the gun battle two of the armed robbers were gunned down and one of them who was identified as Ugochukwu Emeka Uche was arrested.

    The Abia PPRO said that two Toyota vehicles a 4Runner SUV with registration number DR 413 ENU and a Corolla saloon car with registration number EPE 568 EM which was snatched from David Gobble of Ogbor hill area were recovered.

    He said that other items recovered include three locally made short guns, live and expended cartridges, nine GSM phones, one wrist watch, one national ID card bearing the name Uzoefuna Ifechi Kingsley, two wedding rings and a cash sum of N65, 020.

    Ogbonna said that the command is after the fleeing members of the armed robbery gang who has been terrorizing the people of Ogbor hill area of Aba, adding that they will be caught and brought to book.

    Rivers: Police kill three of four man armed robbery gang

    There was tension in the Port Harcourt metropolis in Rivers State Monday, when the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Team engaged four man armed robbery gang on a face to face gun battle, killing three.

    An eyewitness at the scene of incident, at the UTC junction, told The Nation that the police trailed the suspects from Borokiri axis and intercepted them at the junction when they could not move further due to the electronic traffic light.

    Confirming the incident Monday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nnamdi Omoni said the IGP intelligence team intercepted the suspects on intelligence information.

    Omoni further confirmed that three of the suspects were killed at the gun battle while one was arrested, who on interrogation allegedly confessed that they were on mission to Arik Airline and said to have killed a police corporal last year during the All Progressives Congress rally in Okirika.

    He said: “Today, November 28, 2016, the IGP intelligence response team, working on credible intelligence intercepted these gang of armed robbers who were heading to Arik Airline. They have made plans to attack the passengers and anybody who will repel them.

    “The IGP team intercepted them and on sighting the police, the suspects opened fire on them and then there was serious exchange of gun fire at the end of which three of them were killed and one was arrested. He has also given useful information to the police.

    “The arrested suspect who gave his name as Peter James, 30 year old and a native of Bayelsa State has confessed to have killed a police officer, one Corporal Ifeanyi Ify at an APC rally in Okirika sometime last year. He is helping us now with our investigation.”

    The PPRO stressed that the commissioner of Police, Francis Mobolaji Odesanya is prepared to fight criminals in the State to its minimal level.

    He also disclosed that some police officer sustained injuries at shot our and are responding to treatment.

    Items recovered from the suspects include, one GPMG rifle with 1000 rounds of ammunition, one AK47 rifle and two fully loaded magazines.
