Nigeria International  forward Tolu Arokodare has expressed his excitement after netting his first goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers, while also declaring his determination to score more for the Premier League side.

‎Arokodare, who joined Wolves in the summer, opened his account in his side’s  Carabao Cup clash against Everton at Molineux on Tuesday night. The striker was introduced in the 68th  minute as a replacement for Strand Larsen and wasted no time making an impact.

‎With just three minutes left on the clock, Arokodare doubled Wolves’ lead, calmly finishing off a brilliant setup from fellow substitute Joao Gomes. His effort sealed a comfortable win for the Old Gold, booking their place in the next round of the competition.

In  a related development, coach Vitor Pereira has applauded  Arokodare on his first goal for Wolves, adding his addition is a major boost to his side.

““When we are expecting a strong shot on the goal, because he has the confidence in himself. Of course, he is not in his shape physically speaking. Larsen today worked a lot for the team, and after Tolu went inside and he helped us. This is the spirit that I want to see,” the coach told the club’s official website.

He added: “Tolu came in the moment that we didn’t have Jorgen to play. The plan was not to play with him 90 minutes, the plan was to give him time to adapt and to start getting minutes. He needs to work hard to get his condition, and he will help us.”

Speaking in the same vein, striker Marshall Munetsi who opened Wolves’  score sheet  in the 2-0 win over Everton , has thrown his weight  behind the 24-year-old Nigerian  to be a consistent performer for Pereira’s  side as they push for success in both  the domestic  league and cup competitions.

“We were actually joking, because I wanted to see the celebration. So, it was really nice for him also to score, I think he’s going to be very important for us this season. It’s a League Cup game, but going to the league, I think it’s very, very good for him to get that confidence boost.”

AROKODARE: I’ll thrive  in Premier League

    • By Daniel Akinte

The Nigerian international, Tolu Arokodare, speaking on his move to Wolverhampton Wanderers on the deadline of the summer transfer window revealed the club’s history, and how players have developed overtime which gave him the assurance that Wolves is the right place to progress his career.

Having won the Golden Boot on joint top-scorer in the Belgian Pro League last season with Genk, the 24-year-old striker spent two and a half years in the Belgian league, joining KRC Genk in January 2023 and remaining there until his transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers in September 2025.

Last campaign at Genk, the Nigerian international striker Arokodare netted 23 times in all competitions.

Arokodare, knowing fully well that a lot of expectations are demanded from him at the Molineux and he’s itching to start contributing positively to his Premier League club once returned from the international break.

“It feels amazing. It did take a while, but I’m here finally, and I’m happy to be here. I didn’t need convincing. I know the history of the club and the players that have been here and how they’ve progressed to become better players. I like the project of the club, and that’s what I want for myself. I want to improve and I want to progress, and help this team,” Arokodare said.

“I think I’ll fit in pretty good. If you, for example, look at the strikers that we have now, we’re almost the same profile, so it won’t be difficult for me to adapt. You could see how good [Jorgen Strand] Larsen did last season, and I’m just here to help the team.”

    On suiting the Premier League

Having played in Germany, France, and Belgium, Arokodare admitted that the Premier League demands a lot of runs due to its intensity and physicality even though his first few games will be challenging and adding that he’s set for the challenge.

In his words: “I think I’ll fit in pretty good. The Premier League is a league full of physicality, high intensity, a lot of runs, and I think I’m that kind of player. I think I’m strong, I’m fast. Obviously, the first few games and weeks won’t be the easiest, but it’s a challenge that I think I’m ready for, and I think I’ll fit in pretty good.

“It was time already. I had my mind set here, this is where I wanted to be, because I played in Germany, France, Belgium, and I think it was just here missing, and finally I’m happy to be here.”

    On being excited to start

Asked on how he feels about putting on the Old Gold shirt and playing in front of the fans, the Nigerian forward stated that he can’t wait to debut for his new club.

“I wouldn’t say I’m completely match fit, because I haven’t played more than 30 minutes in a single game, but I’m going to the national team now, and hopefully I get to play games, and if it doesn’t happen, I’ll just try to stay fit and come back and be in top form for the team.

“I can’t wait to meet the guys, to meet the coach, and to start training with the team. I tried on the jerseys yesterday, the three different ones, they felt nice, they felt amazing, they felt right. I can’t wait for the first game, the first home game, if I’m starting, if I’m coming off the bench, if I’m on the bench, not playing, I can’t wait just to be in front of the fans,” Arokodare said.

    On scoring goals in Belgium

While reflecting on his performance at Genk during last campaign, Arokodare is confident of bringing that same scoring form to the Molineux.

“I would say there is still that confidence from last season. I haven’t played as many minutes this season for obvious reasons, but hopefully I can get back to playing more minutes and I can get back to my goal scoring form.

“It [the golden boot] was very nice. It wasn’t easy, because there was very good competition. To be honest, and to give credit to the other guy, I was joint top scorer, but it was an amazing feeling. It felt like a well done, it was just a little bit sad that we didn’t win the title, but it was also something to take home with me,” Arokodare said.

    Arokodare, Uche make PL debuts

Super Eagles duo Tolu Arokodare and Chrisantus Uche made their Premier League debuts on Saturday, days after representing Nigeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Arokodare, who earned a summer switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers following a prolific campaign with KRC Genk in Belgium, started in Wolves’ 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

The striker, however, struggled to make a mark and was substituted in the 66th minute for Colombian midfielder Jhon Arias.

At Selhurst Park, Uche, a late signing for Crystal Palace at the end of the transfer window, was introduced in the 84th minute to replace fellow new arrival Yeremy Pino.

Despite his cameo, Palace failed to break down newly-promoted Leeds United, with the encounter ending in a goalless stalemate.

Both players had featured for Nigeria during the recent international window, with Arokodare coming off the bench against Rwanda and South Africa, while Uche was a second-half substitute in the draw versus South Africa.

Though neither made a significant impact on their league debuts, the pair will be looking to settle quickly and establish themselves in the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Meanwhile, Samuel Chukwueze was left out of Fulham’s matchday squad following his deadline-day move from AC Milan.

Isak, Arokodare, Chukwueze to lead parade of new EPL signings

The Premier League returns this weekend after a two-week pause with clubs eager to show off their new transfer window purchases, none more so than champions Liverpool for whom Alexander Isak could make his debut at Burnley on Sunday.

Of course, there is Nigerian interests  with the Super Eagles duo of  Tolu Arokodare and Samuel Chukwueze  would expectedly turn out for their  new English  clubs  this weekend after  both being involved in late transfer moves just before the International break.

Arokodare  who moved from Belgian side Genk to Wolverhampton Wanderers could make his dream EPL debut in Saturday’s  trip to Newcastle while  Chukwueze  who  left on a loan deal from AC Milan to Fulham to join his compatriots, Alex Nwobi  and Calvin Bassey, may debut in front of the home fans tomorrow  at the Craven Cottage against Leeds.

Meanwhile, an astonishing 3 billion pounds ($4.05 billion) was spent by the 20 clubs in England’s top-flight, a fair chunk of it in the last few days of trading as clubs beefed up their squads for the months ahead.

Isak’s acrimonious split from Newcastle United was finally resolved in the nick of time, with Liverpool paying a British record 125 million pounds for the Swedish goal-machine.

The 25-year-old did not play a single minute for Newcastle this season as he was effectively frozen out and while he did come off the bench for a brief cameo for Sweden against Kosovo on Monday, it is unlikely he will start at Burnley.

However, manager Arne Slot will be keen to give him some minutes at Turf Moor where Liverpool will be seeking to maintain their 100% start to the defence of their crown with a fourth win.

Isak may have been the highest-profile summer deal but several other clubs resume their Premier League campaigns eager to try out some expensive new toys.

Arsenal are likely to hand a first start to Eberechi Eze at home to Nottingham Forest, a club who not only added Oleksandr Zinchenko, Dilane Bakwa, and Cuiabano on deadline day but since replaced manager Nunu Espirito Santo with Ange Postecoglou.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Postecoglou can expect a baptism of fire on his return to north London, especially with Arsenal still smarting from their loss at Liverpool.

After two successive defeats, Manchester City host Manchester United on Sunday in the weekend’s big derby with manager Pep Guardiola’s side trailing their neighbours in the standings. All eyes will be on who Guardiola puts in goal after the last-minute signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma.

United, who have four points after a last-gasp win against Burnley, will almost certainly also have a debutant in goal after the arrival of Senne Lammens on deadline day.

Aston Villa have endured a poor start with one point and no goals from their first three games so expect to see their deadline day signings feature away to Everton tomorrow.

Jadon Sancho, on loan from Manchester United, will give Villa some much-needed attacking spark while Harvey Elliott, surplus to requirements at Liverpool, could also start.

Everton, for whom loan signing Jack Grealish has been in scintillating form so far, will be buoyant after spending 97 million pounds in initial transfer fees during the summer and could give a debut to new midfielder Merlin Rohl.

Tottenham Hotspur travel to West Ham United on Saturday as they begin a new era following the shock exit of executive chairman Daniel Levy after 25 years in charge of the club.

His parting gift may have been the signing of Randal Kolo Muani on loan from Paris St Germain on deadline day and he could make his debut at the London Stadium.

Newcastle fans may lament the bitter loss of Isak, but softening that blow was the signing of Yoane Wissa from Brentford for a reported 55 million pounds.

Wissa will have the opportunity to instantly endear himself with the St James’ Park faithful at home to bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Brentford, who also lost forward Bryan Mbeumo in the summer to Manchester United, signed Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson to bolster their attack and he could feature at home to Chelsea in Saturday’s late evening offering.

One deadline-day deal that failed to complete was Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi’s expected sale to Liverpool.

Palace fans will be relieved to see the inspirational central defender, who scored his first England goal on Tuesday, back in red and blue at home to Sunderland tomorrow.
