Party Claims: Wenger opens Iwobi investigation

Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi is being investigated by Arsenal after claims that he went partying just before the Emirate landlords were sent packing from the FA cup.

Iwobi could face huge fine if the allegation proves to be true .Newspaper reports claims Iwobi was out partying less than 48 hours before the holders crashed out of the FA Cup with a shock 4-2 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

The Sun obtained footage that appeared to show Iwobi at a house party in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 21-year-old Nigeria international completed 90 minutes at the City Ground on Sunday, where goals from Per Mertesacker and Danny Welbeck were not enough to prevent a humiliating reverse against Championship opposition.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s EFL Cup semi-final with Chelsea, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger confirmed he would discuss the matter with Iwobi and take action if the allegations were accurate.

“if it’s true he will be fined,” said Wenger, who told reporters he was very disappointed with some individual performances at Forest.

“It is impossible to go out 48 hours before a game. It is unacceptable.

“I will have to see him to see whether that is right or not.

“If he was at a birthday party, how long has he stayed? That is very important. After that I will decide what happens.

“You must have played football, you want to prepare 100 per cent but sometimes it is not a guarantee that you will be at your best. But that is what is requested from a top professional.”

The Sun report alleged there was evidence of illegal drug use at the party Iwobi supposedly attended.

The newspaper added there was no suggestion the midfielder took drugs and Wenger was sure to defend his player against any implication to the contrary.

“You have to be cautious with the news coming out – when you read what has been reported it is like he has taken drugs but he’s not involved in that,” he added.

“If your neighbour takes drugs, what can you do about it? You are responsible for your behaviour.”

Arsenal yet to reach final decision on Eboue

Premier league side Arsenal are yet to reach a final decision on how best to assist their embattled former right back, Emmanuel Eboue.

A spokesman of the Gunners told Dailymail that the club and its fans are indeed sorry about the predicament Eboue has found himself adding however that the club has not concluded discussion on what exactly to do for him. The Emirates landlords may however tilt towards financial assistant following immediate job offer announced by Turkish side Galatasaray..

Eboue played for the Gunners between 2004 and 2011 making 132 appearances and scoring five goals.

‘We are all so sorry to hear the reports about Manu’s recent difficulties and will explore whether we can help in any way,” the spokesman told

Eboue spent five years at the Turkish club making 77 appearances scoring five goals. The right full back was capped 79 times by the Elephants of Cote d Ivoire.

Manager Fatih Terim has moved quickly to help the full-back after news of his plight broke on Christmas Eve.

Terim said: “We heard news about Eboue in the dressing room, I was informed there. Galatasaray immediately after the news broke announced readiness to offer Eboue job as Assistant coach of their U-14 side.

An excited Eboue has already expressed delight at the lifeline coming from the Turkish side.

“I would be very happy if Fatih gave me the duty with Galatasaray.

“Fatih Terim is my father, I love him very much, I do everything for him because I love him very much.”

Thirty four year old Eboue revealed he had seriously considered taking his own life after financial mismanagement has left him penniless, with a bitter divorce meaning he has been estranged from his three children since the summer.

He was paid £1.5million-a-year when he moved to Turkey, and lived in big houses with a fleet of luxury motors.

But his wealth has disappeared in the wake of a bitter divorce from wife Auriele, who has been awarded all of the couple’s assets, with the player now reportedly dodging police and bailiffs.

Rosicky retires as rigours of playing worsens

Former Arsenal star Tomas Rosicky has announced his retirement after succumbing to the rigours of professional football at the age of 37.

The Czech midfielder won silverware with the Gunners, Borussia Dortmund and Sparta Prague, where he started and ended a career that spanned 18 years.

He also won 105 caps for his country, leaving him third on the all-time list behind only Petr Cech and Karel Poborsky.

“After careful consideration I have realised I am no longer able to fully prepare my body for what professional football requires,” Rosicky said at a press conference on Wednesday.

“I would like to thank Sparta for raising me, for being the first step in my career in big clubs, and for allowing me to say goodbye at the place I love the most.”

Rosicky, who returned to Sparta in August, last year, will be best remembered for the decade he spent with Arsenal, where he won two FA Cups.

He was a Bundesliga champion with Dortmund in 2001-02, having won two Czech First League titles at Sparta.

Rosicky made about 170 appearances for the Gunners between 2006 and 2016 scoring 17 goals before returning to Sparta Prague.

He made his renewed debut for Sparta on 10 September 2016 in a 2–2 draw with Mladá Boleslav in a Czech First League game. However, Rosický sustained an injury after 19 minutes of play during a match against Mladá Boleslav and was ruled out for the rest of the 2016–17 Czech First League season.

    Sanchez ‘snubs £400,000-per-week Chinese deal

Alexis Sanchez has reportedly rejected a big-money offer from China as he prepares for life after his Arsenal contract expires next summer.

Sanchez has only a few months left on his deal at the Emirates, which runs out in 2018, and has shown little indication of wanting to remain at Arsenal.

He is said to favour a move to Premier League rivals Manchester City, and has apparently already turned down one mega-bucks deal.

The Sun report that Sanchez has turned down a £400,000-a-week offer from Chinese Super League (CSL) outfit Hebei China Fortune, managed by former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The move would have earned the Chilean international up to £21million per year after tax – however he wants to remain playing at a higher level.

While the money on offer from China is beyond what even super-wealthy City can pay, Sanchez would prefer a comparatively lower wage in order to stay playing at a high level.

He was close to a £60m switch to the Etihad Stadium near the end of the summer transfer window, but Arsenal’s failure to replace him with Thomas Lemar from Monaco meant the deal was cancelled.

Sanchez is keen to reunite with Pep Guardiola, who he played under at Barcelona, and join the fearsome City attacking line.

He has failed to live up to the high standards he has set in previous seasons at Arsenal scoring only five goals in 17 games so far.

The former Udinese and Barcelona ace joined the Gunners in 2014 on a long-term contract for a transfer fee of £31.7 million. He has since made over a 117 appearances for the Emirates landlords scoring 57 goals in the bargain.

Mesut Ozil’s stunning first-half volley claims a first Premier League win in four for Arsenal, which sees them leapfrog Burnley into fourth. It was a spirited display from Newcastle but it was not enough to stop their dismal winless run, which extends to nine games and leaves them in the relegation zone.
    • FT BRIGHTON 0-0 BURNLEYFT: There’s the full-time whistle! Just one goal in six games now for Brighton, and they’ll be disappointed not to have left with all three points.

Arsenal agree £35m deal for Steven N’Zonzi

Arsenal have agreed a £35.3million deal for Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish publication El Gol report that a deal for the former Premier League man, who has a buy-out clause of £35.2million, could be finalised in the January transfer window.

Arsenal’s package to bring in the Frenchman would reportedly include a transfer fee of £32.7million, plus £2.6million in bonuses.

N’Zonzi, who has made it clear that he wants to leave the La Liga outfit in January, has been left out of Sevilla’s squad since being substituted at half-time in the 3-3 draw with Liverpool in the Champions League on November 21.

N’Zonzi confirmed he had a bust-up with Sevilla manager Eduardo Berizzo at half-time and their relationship is now beyond repair.

‘The coach pointed the finger at me [at half-time of the Liverpool game]. I will not repeat it… but his words affected me,’ N’Zonzi told France Football.

‘Publicly, he said in future he would only select players who fit his vision for football. What does that mean?

‘Whether in a 4-3-3, 3-5-2 or any other formation, a player must adapt to what his coach demands and I have always done it.

N’Zonzi has not featured for Sevilla since their Champions League clash with Liverpool

‘The fact I was always professional despite the circumstances, that I always did my job, I found it unfair.

‘My future is clearly away from Seville. The only thing that disappoints me is the way it has ended.’

The 28-year-old’s situation at Sevilla gave rise to speculation linking him with a hose of clubs, including Everton and Juventus, as well as Arsenal.

But now it appears Arsene Wenger has made a fast move for the former Stoke and Blackburn midfielder.

Nzonzi signed for Sevilla for a fee around the region of £7 million,in July 2015 on a four-year contract which includes a €30 million (£21.5m) buyout clause. On 22 August, he was sent off on his debut in a goalless draw at Málaga CF.

Nzonzi initially struggled with the immense heat in Andalusia, and a style of play based on retention of the ball and technical ability, but entered a period of good form in the second half of the season, culminating in Sevilla winning the UEFA Europa League final against Liverpool in Basel.

  • Iwobi turns tormentor in chief in Arsenal defeat

Iwobi turns tormentor in chief in Arsenal defeat

Super Eagles and Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi was in his superlative form Saturday at the Emirates as he turned into a tormentor in chief against visiting Manchester United.

Although the visitors were to business minded for the Gunners to handle especially in the first half where they grabbed two goals in a quickie thanks to Valencia and Lingard, a workaholic Iwobi piled up pressure especially in the second half giving united goalkeeper David de Gea a lot to worry about.

Iwobi had come in as 15th minute substitute for Shkodran Mustafi.

It was Alexander Lacazette who scored a 49th minute goal to reduce the tally against Arsenal which the Gunners fought hard with intent to consolidate but the effort was again perforated by Lingard who grabbed the third goal via a counter attack and Paul Pogba’s deadly pass converted by Paul Lingard.

It was however not all smiles for Manchester United as star player Paul Pogba got the marching orders after rough tackle on Spain international Bellerin in the 74th minute with United still leading 1-3.

One of the highlights of the match was lamentation by Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho following yellow card handed Laurent Koscielny instead of a red in the 87th minute. Iwobi’s regular effort in combination with Sanchez with intent to remedy the situation even with five minutes extra time given failed to prevent the visitors from running away with their well-deserved three points. The visitors showed their superiority with incredible 34 shots on goal.
Manchester United have thus closed the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City to five points courtesy of a 3-1 win over Arsenal in a frantic and thrilling contest
Jose Mourinho has often been criticised for his negative tactics away to top-six rivals, but his side capitalised on defensive errors to race into a 2-0 lead after just 11 minutes in North London.
Arsenal had a proud 12-match winning streak to protect in front of their own fans and fought back, but despite creating a plethora of first-half chances they were forced to wait until the opening stages of the second half to pull a goal back through Alexandre Lacazette.

  • Carzola suffers another injury setback

    Carzola suffers another injury setback

Arsenal midfielder, Santi Carzola has announced that he would be having another surgery to address some discomfort in his Achilles.

The 32-year-old Spanish international was set for a comeback this January having been ruled out since he picked up an injury in a Champions League match against Anderlecht last October.

The new surgery would be the ninth for Carzola in the space of one year but the midfielder believes he’s  all it takes to play football again.

Carzola said in a statement on Twitter: “Owing to discomfort in the tendon which has been bothering me for the last few days I’ve had to undergo surgery again.

Carzola’s injury has been described by his club Manager, Arsene Wenger as the worst he had seen in his entire career.

In an interview with Marca last month, Carzola revealed that doctors told him there was a risk of losing his legs.

Reports also had it that the former villareal and Malaga man has lost eight centimetres from the tendon in his right ankle.

Barca tempt Ozil with £350,000 a week carrot

Mesut Ozil will be offered a £350,000 weekly wage by Barcelona as they bid to steal a march on Manchester United in the race for his signature, according to reports.

Ozil’s deal at Arsenal is set to expire in the summer meaning the midfielder is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger revealed recently that the club would consider selling Ozil in January to avoid losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

And the Mirror report that Barcelona are willing to offer Ozil a £350,000-a-week wage packet to bring him to the Nou Camp.

United boss Jose Mourinho remains keen on Ozil, who he managed during their spell together at Real Madrid, but Barcelona have the advantage of being able to offer the German a pre-contract agreement in the new year.

When asked if Ozil had already agreed a move to Barcelona on Friday, Wenger responded saying: ‘No. What kind of control can I have over that?

‘All these people have agents who can talk to anybody. That doesn’t disturb people, that happens all through their career’.

Inter Milan are also interested in a move for Ozil and Arsenal are keen to recoup some of the £42.5million they spent on him in the summer of 2013.

Inter chief Erick Thohir admitted Ozil was a transfer target for his club and the Italians are considering a bid for him during the January transfer window.

Arsenal face losing both Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the summer after the star duo enter the final seven months of their contracts at the Emirates.

Sanchez remains a target for both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are braced to receive offers in January for the Chilean.

Both Sanchez and Ozil impressed in Arsenal’s last league fixture, the 2-0 north London derby victory over Tottenham.

Arsenal were beaten 1-0 in Cologne on Thursday in the Europa League but will be hoping to bounce back when they turn their attentions back to the Premier League on Sunday for the trip to Burnley.
