  • Asa drops new single ‘The Beginning’

    Singer-songwriter, Asa Elemide aka Asa, yesterday dropped a single titled ‘The Beginning’ after a five year break. The song is a melodious post-break-up song that details the residual love still between the warring partners.

    The 34-year-old musician recently shared the cover art of ‘The Beginning’, which she  has tagged the – opening track – on her upcoming project, which will be her third studio album.

    She posted the cover art on her Instagram page, with the simple caption; “14.05 #TheBeginning @12pm”

    While the cover art is a stunning portrait of the singer, it is still not certain if ‘The Beginning’ is also the title of the album.

    But what is certain is that fans of ASA have long awaited her new songs and she never fails to deliver.

    She has released several albums including, “Asa’’, which was aired on radios across Europe, Asia and Africa and went on win the prestigious French Constantin Award in 2008, where she was voted best fresh talent of 10 singers or groups by a jury of 19 music-industry specialists in Paris.

    Other albums released include: Beautiful Imperfection in collaboration with a French composer Nicolas Mollard, “Bed of Stone’’ released in August 2014 and the singer went on a world tour from 2015 to 2017.

    Spice TV, the number one Fashion and Lifestyle channel in Africa, is set to organise a one-of-a-kind event, the Spice Lifestyle Honours, this month.

    Taking place at Eko Convention Centre of Eko Hotels on the 5th of December 2018, the Spice Lifestyle Honours will feature live music performances, fashion show, awards ceremony and celebrity appearances all in one night.

    International recording artiste, Asa, will headline the star-studded event in a highly anticipated performance that is sure to thrill guests as she serenades with her soulful voice and hit songs. Other notable artists billed to perform include Bez, Adekunle Gold and Falana.

    The fashion show will see some of the best designers in Africa showcase their pieces on the runway such as Chulaap (South Africa), Orapeleng (South Africa), Osei Duro (Ghana), David Tlale (South Africa), Kenneth Ize (Nigeria) and Torlowei (Nigeria); creator of the first piece of Couture to be accepted into the permanent collection of The Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of African Art.

    NIGERIAN entertainer, Koffi Tha Guru, has releases his much anticipated 13th studio album titled ‘Colourborations’.

    According to the comedian, actor and singer; ”it has been months of pushing and laboring, finally we can say we have put forth a baby full of colours. Over 50 featured acts adding their own shade of awesomeness to one album. Yes, it’s that massive. Colourborations is the biggest project I have worked on till date.”

    Speaking further on the album, Koffi said ”Music has never been this beautiful, that, I can assure you. The Colourborations album begins with the legendary Disc Jockey, DJ Jimmy Jatt taking the intro, Asa doing the outro, MI Abaga rapping in Hausa; this is the only song he has ever done that, Alibaba singing Calypso, Bouqui and the late Fatai Rolling Dollars doing Gospel, Small Doctor and Q-dot bringing homely flows, Kunle Bello going on a Togolese ride with me; these are just a few out of the many pleasant surprises this album is offering,” he said.

    Colourborations which is arguably the biggest collaborative effort by any entertainer in Africa also sees Koffi pull a surprise jazzy funk track with Russian Diva, Diana Bada.

    The 34-track album which features other top entertainers like Sir Shina Peters, Ras Kimono, Paul Play, Ruggedman, Bovi, Sound Sultan, Big Lo, Sunny Neji, 9ice, Ikpa Udo, Chigul, Omobaba, Mc Abbey, Maleke, Obadice, Terry Apala, Ashny, Immaculate Edache, EmmaOhMaGod, Woli Arole, Tolu Ajayi, Classiq, Sossick, and Josh2funny, is currently available on all paid music platform.

    FOLK musician Asa is set to mark the tenth anniversary of her debut multi-platinum album, Asa, with a world-class performance tonight in Lagos.

    Tagged ‘Asa Live in Lagos Encore Concert’, the performance which will see Asa bringing her band and a 30-piece Orchestra holds at the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos.

    This is coming on the heels of her last show in Lagos that ended her ‘Bed of Stone’ tour which many fans and music critics dubbed the best concert of 2016.

    Born Bukola Elemide, Asa has become a runaway success musically.

    Asa gives dazzling performance in Lagos

    After touring several parts of the globe with her unique brand of music, dread locked musician Asa, whose real is Bukola Elemide, on Sunday, finally performed her first major concert in Lagos.

    For the France-born Nigerian, the roost was the stage of the Convention Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites and  Lagosians were not disappointed as the soul-singer held the audience spellbound for two hours. From her first song of the night, Maybe, Asa energetically performed songs  from her three studio albums.

    The event which had Olisa Adiba as host, had artistes such as Isaac Geralds, Bez Idakula, Rachel Kerr, Kaline and Falana set the mood for the night. And when the queen took the stage, the crowd responded by cheering, dancing, jumping and screaming, electrified by her songs.

    The 33 year-old musician also had a duet with prolific music producer and musician Cobhams Asuquo on a cover Beyonce’s Halo.

    ‘He makes songs that inspire people around the world,’ said Asa on Instagram of Cobhams. ‘A dyng man’s last wish, was for his family to see our show in Australia. He asked that we played ‘Fire on the mountain’ this is the genius of @CobhamsAsuquo.’

    Since Asa came out with her first album, Asa which had tracks like Jailer, Fire On The Mountain, Awe and Bibanke, many Nigerians had not seen Asa perform live as she had not done a concert in the country.

    But with accolades after Sunday’s show, it seemed the wait was worthwhile and Asa took to social media to thank Lagos.

    Television show host Funmi Iyanda described her performance as magical.

    ‘So @Asa_official gave Lagos magic yesterday,’ she tweeted.

    2I knew she would. She’s magic. Now, Lagos, Nigeria, don’t look back, be more magic.’

    As it stands, Asa seems to have raise the standard of musical concerts in the country.

    ‘Asa has held her first ever concert in Lagos,’ said Joey Akan, a music critic at Pulse.ng. ‘And that concert was historic.’

    Some Nigerian artistes that turned up for the event include Bovi, Adekunle Gold, Omawumi and Waje.

    AWARD-WINNING Nigerian singer and songwriter, Bukola Elemide aka Asa has been slated to thrill dignitaries and  a select audience at the Grand Finale of the third edition of the Etisalat Prize for Literature holding today, March 19, at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lagos. This year’s award ceremony, according to the organisers, will embody the theme Representing the Diversity of African Voices by showcasing the richness of Africa and how our diversity converges into one unique voice of the continent.

    The three books vying for the Prize include: Tram 83 by Fiston Mwanza Mujila, The Story of Anna P, as Told by Herself written by Penny Busetto and What Will People Say? By Rehana Rossouw.

    Chief Executive Officer of Etisalat Nigeria, Matthew Willsher said Asa’s performance is targeted at creating a wholesome and entertaining experience that celebrates the growth and depth of Africa’s literary community.

    The Etisalat Prize for Literature is the first ever pan-African prize to celebrate first time writers of published fiction novels on the continent. The Prize will bring together high profile writers, book critics and academics from across the continent and beyond to identify new writers of African descent.

    Asa, who has a number of internationally recognized albums and chart-topping singles to her credit, will perform her most popular hits as well as tracks from her latest album Bed of Stone, to select high profile guests made up of top government officials, writers, book critics and academics from across Africa.

    Nigeria’s queen of Soul, Bukola Elemide, aka Asa gave a rousing performance at the Convent Garden Piazza, United Kingdom, on August 1. The singer, songwriter, and recording artiste is presently on the U.K. leg of her Europe tour, in promotion of her latest album Bed of Stone, proving beyond any measure of a doubt her place as a music star.

    Paris-born Nigerian jazz musician, Asa, will on Saturday, August 1 headline the ‘August in Africa Summer Festival’ holding at the Covent Gardens, West Piazza, London.

    Asa, whose latest album, Bed of Stone is still making waves, would close the one-day festival, meant to celebrate African music and musicians.

    The one-day music festival is being organised by The Africa Centre, which has for 50 years supported African culture, enterprise and education in the UK.

    The Festival which takes place between 12pm and 10 pm will feature other African artistes. Among them is Ghanaian music sensation, ODG Fuse, whose hit song, Azonto, went viral on YouTube, amassing over 12 million views. His third single ‘Million Pound Girl’ recently debuted at no.5 in the UK, and his debut album also features collaborations with Wyclef and Sean Paul.

    Other musicians billed to perform at the festival include Bonga, Simo Lagnawi, Alim Kamara, Studio Afro Latino, Taali M, Villy and the Xtreme Volumes and True Ingredients.

    AWAY from her usual laid back style, France-based soul singer, Bukola Elemide, aka Asa, appears coolly sophisticated in new promotional photos as she embarks on the European leg of her Bed of Stone album tour.

    Dressed in a menswear inspired suit with a plunging neckline and strikingly ephemeral in a white shirt

    paired with a full-length azure skirt, among other outfits, the international music star’s minimal has been described as part of the maturity of the sultry singer.

    Speaking about the album Bed Of Stone, the iconic singer said, ” I wanted to prove a point to those who felt, ‘Hey, you’re nothing, you’ve been stained; You don’t have hope.”

    The tour has been a success so far and Asa spoke briefly of its impact: “It has been an overwhelming experience,” she said. “You know you have done well when fans can connect to you and you also feel such connection and that in itself is powerful which says you are successful.”

    The talented singer continues her tour in Germany, France, Luxembourg, and Switzerland, with other cities to follow. Born in Paris, France, to Nigerian parents. Her family returned to live in Nigeria when she was two. Twenty years later, Asa returned to Paris where her life as an artiste took off.

    Partnered with Cobhams, and with the new involvement of Christophe Dupouy, she produced

    her first album, Asa . The release of the album saw Asa win the prestigious French Constantin Award in 2008, where she was voted best fresh talent of 10 singers by a jury of 19 music-industry specialists in

    Paris. Her second album, Beautiful Imperfection, was released on 25 October 2010. She also performed with Féfé at the Sydney Festival in 2011.

    ORGANISERS of The Future Awards Africa (TFAA) have announced performers for the 2014 edition of their show, listing France-based Nigerian soul singer, Bukola Elemide, aka Asa as the headline act.

     Asa, described by CNN as ‘an African pop legend in the making’, recently released her third album, Bed of Stone, which has garnered rave reviews across the world.

    The singer will be expected to perform songs from the new album, exclusively at TFAA 2014.

    She will be joined by multi-award winning singer, Iyanya and 2014’s breakout artiste, Yemi Alade, who released her debut album, King of Queens this year.

    Already, Alade’s music is fast crossing borders through collaborations with the likes of Tanzania’s most successful artiste, Diamond Platnumz.

    “Also on the stage at the awards will be pop culture icons including Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Genevieve Nnaji, Banky W and Lanre Da Silva Ajayi. They will be driving the content of the awards through calls to action and award presentations,” said designer Ohimai Atafo, who is heading the Central Working Committee for the awards.

    Organisers recently announced the four anchors for the event: Nigeria’s Ice Prince, Iyanya and Osas Ighodaro alongside Ugandan Channel O VJ, Flavia Tuminise.

    Hosting the red carpet will be Africa’s girls on television, Bolanle Olukanni and Zainab Balogun of EbonyLife TV. They will be joined by fashion bloggers, Denola Adepetun and Zina Anumudu of StyleVitae who have defined the culture for fashion over the past year.

    The black-tie event holds on Sunday, December 7, at the Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos, Nigeria.

    The Future Awards Africa 2014 is headlined by Vitafoam and presented in partnership with Microsoft, the Lagos Internal Revenue Service and the Tony Elumelu Foundation.
