  • My grouse against APC primary in Ifako-Ijaye, by aspirant

An All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the House of Representatives in Ifako/Ijaiye Federal Constituency, Lagos State, James Owolabi, has spoken on the outcome of the poll.

He said his loyalty to the party was intact, noting that all hands must be on deck to win the election.

Owolabi, who polled 166 votes at the delegates’ election, said Mr Akinwunmi, who emerged as the candidate with 219 votes, could not match him on the field.

He described himself as a committed party man and popular contender.

Owolabi said while some aspirants were asked to step down, and one contender disqualified, he was the aspirant to beat.

He said: “More than three times now, I have made known my intention to run for the House of Reps, but I was at one point or the other stopped by the party. We all need to be given a level playing field.

“On the eve of the election, I ran for my dear life when I learnt I was going to be abducted. I was called to come and effect my withdrawal from the race. Imposition is no longer in vogue in our party. So, this experience is not envisaged. We should have been informed not to purchase forms at N2.2m each, if an anointed candidate had been premeditated.

“Many of these developments I am sure our national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, would never be a part of. there were clear instances of intimidation right in the premises where the primary was held.

The aspirant complained that the party has been victimising him after the poll.

Owolabi added: “I am however, perturbed that after the primary, I got home and met a license revocation letter for my wife’s PSP operation ‘Oye Balogun Enterprises, without any reason, I want the concerned authorities to review their stance on this matter because my wife’s business should not suffer due to my political ambition.”

  • Why Borofice should be candidate, by former aspirant

Why Borofice should be candidate, by former aspirant

A former governorship aspirant of the Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC), Olaoluwa Adeyeye, has urged the members to support the gubernatorial aspiration  of Senator Ajayi Borofice to win the November election.

Speaking  with The Nation, the Akure-born lawyer said he decided to throw his weight behind Borofice because the  aspirant is capable of winning the primary and the November  elections  in Ondo.

He said Borofice antecedence as an established democrat and a renowned progressive place him a shoulder above the others.

“Beyond the 2015 elections, he worked valiantly. My people confirmed it that the role he played in the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in Ondo state was very crucial. And that is the kind of leadership the APC needs in Ondo state at this time, hence our decision to follow Prof. Borofice.”

On what he would do to ensure victory for his candidate, he said he would deploy his support base entirely to the electioneering process.

“At the moment, we’re going to work with delegates as we go to the primaries. They are delegates that we’ve been in touch and have been working with for the better part of the last one year and we’ve made our stand known to them that myself, Olaoluwa Adeyeye has stepped them from this race not to remain neutral but to actually support 110 per cent Prof. Borofice. That is the message we’ve passed across every senatorial districts where we’ve supporters.”

He added: ” I have a following of my base which is Akure, which is the largest voting bloc that you have in Ondo state. I have the support of quite a number of constituents including religious and otherwise and I’m going to deploy for my candidate all of that support base to ensure victory at the general elections after these primaries.”

While dispelling rumours of about an anointed candidate, Adeyeye said: “The official communication from the leaders of our party is that there would be free and fair elections.”

The politician said he would remain loyal to the party. “If Prof. Borofice does not win the primaries, which is very unlikely, I have said and I will confirm again that I will remain in a loyal member of the APC, if the delegates vote and another candidate carries the day , I will deploy my resources , my network and my support base for hat winner. The ultimate aim for us as a party I to remain focused. We need to retrieve Ondo state from the claws of poverty, backwardness. We need to open up Ondo state for growth, and international development.”

He also appealed to the APC delegates to vote wisely at the primaries and shun money politics, stressing that it will be counter-productive for the APC and the good people of Ondo State in general in the long run.

  • APC aspirant drops bid to back Abraham

a fellow governorship aspirant on the platform of Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Paul Akintelure, has declared support for a frontline aspirant, Olusegun Abraham.

Akintelure, at a delegates’ meeting at the weekend in Odigbo Local Government, identified Abraham as a true party man and the potential governor, who will transform Ondo State.

The aspirant, who told the party’s delegates he had decided to drop his ambition, stressed that “any delegate’s vote not cast for Abraham in the primary is a wasted vote”.

“The reason why I am here today to support my brother, Olusegun Abraham, is out of true interest for the people of Ondo State. I and some other fellow aspirants are resolved to embrace what’s best for our state ahead of the election.

“We will defeat the PDP, and all of us must present the best shot at achieving that,” said Akintelure.

He added: “To achieve an Ondo that works, I assure you that Abraham is the way. Every well-meaning delegate should see the importance of voting for an aspirant, who has the highest and most-fitting competence quotient to transform Ondo State, especially our economy, from penury to buoyancy.”

When asked why he is stepping down to back Abraham, the APC chieftain hinged the reason on his interest in the people’s welfare.

He said: “The truth is that it can be quite painful to drop my ambition to serve my people to support my brother.”

  • Aspirant urges NJC to revisit ‘dismissed’ case

A former Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Youth and Sports,  Imo Udo, who ran against former Governor Godswill Akpabio in the 2011 governorship primary, has urged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to direct the Supreme Court to re-list his case and hear it on merit.

He is claiming that Akpabio was not qualified to contest the primary because he did not pay tax for the three previous years, in line with the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) guideline that an aspirant must have paid tax to be qualified to contest, except where exempted.

Udo averred that although Akpabio’s tenure had expired, his case, which he said was dismissed without hearing, should be re-listed and heard on its merit, to determine if Akpabio should have held office in the first place.

Udo sued Akpabio at the Federal High Court, claiming the defendant did not show proof of tax payment, nor was there evidence that he was exempted from paying personal income tax.

The court held that it had no jurisdiction to determine the case.

Dissatisfied, Udo appealed at the Court of Appeal in Calabar, which held that for his complaint to be justiceable, it ought to have occurred the day the primary was held.

Udo took his case to the Supreme Court on January 24, 2014, praying the apex court to disqualify Akpabio and overrule the Court of Appeal. But, the case was not listed for hearing until about a year later, despite several requests by Udo’s lawyer that it be listed.

Following a complaint, the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Aloma Mariam Muktar, directed the appellant to file an application for accelerated hearing. Udo said the CJN’s directive got to his lawyer 36 days after it was despatched by the Head of Litigation, Ibrahim Gold.

When the case came up for the first time on December 17, 2014, the panel of justices adjourned it till April 20, 2015, for hearing. Worried that Akpabio’s tenure would soon expire, he sought the intervention of the new CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, for an earlier date, but the CJN said he could not interfere.

Udo said he was shocked when on April 20, last year, a new panel was constituted to consider the case, even when there was no petition against the earlier panel. The new panel dismissed it suo moto. Udo said the justices’ excuse was that they “did not have time to write judgment on the case”.

He added: “The panel rose and I went back home unheard and my appeal unattended to even though it was ripe for hearing and determination by the Supreme Court for over a year and six months before April 20, 2015.

“The NJC, in its meeting of May 20, 2015, I learnt, directed that my case be re-listed, heard and determined before May 28, 2015. But, up to the time of representing this petition, I have not received any correspondence to show that the court has given attention to the directive of the NJC.”

In an affidavit in verification of his petition, Udo said his lawyer, Adebayo Adelodun (SAN), was asked to withdraw the case or it would be struck out.

He wondered why the accelerated hearing notice was not despatched to him on time and why a new panel was constituted to hear the case when there was no petition or complaint against the first panel.

Udo said: “Was the Supreme Court playing pranks on me when, on December 17, 2014, the court pleaded with my counsel to accept a five-month adjournment on the grounds that the case would be determined on the next adjourned date?

“If the purpose for which the case was not heard was time only, what about Section 22 of the Supreme Court Act, which gives the justices the power to give bench judgment, as the same did in the case of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State before a considered judgment of the court was on a later date?

“If the reason for dismissing my case was truly lack of time to do the work they are paid to do, why did the same court, on April 27 and May 26 of the same year (more than a month later) consider other political matters and gave judgment on them?

“Why was my case not relisted, as directed by the NJC in its meeting of May 20, 2015, but that of Frank Okon against the same defendant was relisted and determined on May 26, 2015?”

Udo sent copies of the petiton to President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, if the court finds that Akpabio was not qualified to hold office in the first place, he (Udo) could still be declared governor, as justice demands, despite the expiration of Akpabio’s tenure.

He urged the NJC to revisit the case “to address the issue of making two conflicting statements on oath by the first respondent (Akpabio) in respect of non-payment of taxes because of alleged exemption on one breath, and his alleged payment of three years taxes in one day, while records showed he paid same after he had sworn to an affidavit of its correctness”.

But, the CJN, in his reply to Udo on why the panel was changed, said the practice had been for one panel to sit and hear the nitty-gritty of a case, after which another fresh panel adjudicates on it.

  • Ex-presidential aspirant Shinkafi dies in London

Ex-presidential aspirant Shinkafi dies in London

    •Buhari, Tambuwal, Dogara mourn

A former presidential aspirant, Alhaji Umaru Aliyu Shinkafi, died yesterday in London. He was 79.

The politician had been in and out of the hospital in the last six months, battling an undisclosed ailment.

Shinkafi, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Security Organisation (NSO), now Department of State Service (DSS), between October 1979 and November 1983, was flown abroad in January after a health relapse.

According to sources, the late Marafan Sokoto initially received treatment at St. Nicholas Hospital and Reddington Hospital, both in Lagos, before his referral to London.

A top source, who spoke in confidence, said: “We lost Shinkafi in London at 4 p.m (yesterday). He was flown to in January with some members of his immediate family and three medical doctors.

“In the last six months, he had been battling with ill-health. But it has pleased Allah to call him home. From Allah we came and unto Him we shall return.

“Arrangements are being made to bring his body back home for burial on or before Friday because of flight logistics.”

The late Shinkafi is survived by three wives and five children, including the wives of Kebbi and Zamfara states’ governors.

The late Marafan Sokoto, who opted for a career in the police in 1959, was a graduate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he received his LLB degree in Law in 1973.

Respected for his specialisation in intelligence gathering, the late Shinkafi was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs (now Interior Ministry) in 1975 before he was made the director-general of the defunct NSO.

But at NSO, he ran into storm over the controversial deportation of a former Majority Leader of Borno State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abdurrahman Shugaba Darman, in 1981.

Shugaba, who was a chieftain of the defunct Great Nigeria Peoples Party (GNPP), was accused of alleged “assassination plot against former President Shehu Shagari, of the ruling National Party of Nigeria (NPN).

The late Shugaba was later confirmed to be a Nigerian by a High Court, after his aged mother succeeded in identifying his voice in a testimony which shaped the nation’s legal history.

His foray into politics almost overshadowed his police cum secret service career.

He was a leading presidential aspirant of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) in 1992 before the military regime of ex-President Ibrahim Babangida aborted the primaries.

But he succeeded in becoming the vice-presidential candidate to Chief Olu Falae in the All Peoples Party (APP) and Action for Democracy (AD) alliance in 1999.

The alliance was defeated at the poll in 1999 by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which fielded Olusegun Obasanjo/Atiku Abubakar.

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday commiserated with the government and people of Zamfara State on the passing away of one of Alhaji Shinkafi.

In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President described the late politician, administrator and technocrat as an expert whose contributions to the development of the security architecture of Nigeria remained indelible.

The President urged other Nigerians to carry on from where the late Shinkafi left off.

He urged his family, friends and associates to take solace in the fact that the late Shinkafi played the parts assigned to him diligently, conscientiously and patriotically.

Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, in a condolence message by his spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, described the late Shinkafi as a distinguished legal luminary, security expert, politician with conscience and great community leader and mobiliser.

Tambuwal said: “Marafa’s death has closed a chapter in the life of one Nigeria’s most valuable public officers who made his mark in both public and private sectors. He was a truly passionate Nigerian whose invaluable contributions to issues of national interest will be greatly missed.

“His law office served as a training ground for many aspiring lawyers in Sokoto State and beyond.”

Condoling with his immediate family, the people and government of Zamfara State and the Sultanate Council of Sokoto, Tambuwal prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest.

House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara has commiserated with the government and people of Zamfara State and other Nigerians on the death of Alhaji Shinkafi.

In a statement by his spokesman, Turaki Hassan, the Speaker described the death of the elder statesman as a huge loss to the nation.

Dogara said Shinkafi was a true democrat who contributed immensely towards the restoration of democracy in 1999.

He said: “In all his years in the public service, the late Shinkafi distinguished himself as a patriot, committed and dedicated Nigerian.

“He served the nation with distinction as a lawyer, police officer, Federal Commissioner of Internal Affairs and intelligence chief in the NSO before joining politics.”

The Speaker said the late Shinkafi was a bridge-builder, who lived exemplary live worthy of emulation.

He added: “Our hearts go to his immediate family, government and people of Zamfara State over the irreparable loss.”

  • I ‘ll make Edo great, says factional PDP aspirant

I ‘ll make Edo great, says factional PDP aspirant

Governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party faction, led by Senator Modu Sheriff, Hon. Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, has said he would make Edo State great if elected as governor.

The Sheriff faction has scheduled its primaries for this week and two persons have bought the nomination forms.

Ehiozuwa who spoke to newsmen in Benin City said the experience he has garnered as a lawmaker made him the right person to succeed Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

Displaying his nomination and Expression of Interest Forms to PDP supporters in Edo State, Ehiozuwa said he joined team with Senator Sheriff because of a subsisting court judgement and promised to backdown, if there is a contrary ruling before the party primary.

He stated that he decided to contest to protect the state from those he described as poachers who do not want the progress of the state.

His words, “If I win nomination, I assure you that I will give power back to the people. Until the is a contrary court judgement setting aside the subsisting court ruling, Alimo Sheriff remains the Chairman of our great party.

“The previous preliminary PDP primary is a null and void, because the constitution of our great party, PDP, we must adhere to it. We must support the rule of law and as a lawmaker, I should not be violating the laws of the party or the country.”

He added: “I’m a lawmaker and not a Law breaker. I’m not the only one contesting, there are many others.”

  • How APC can retain Edo, by aspirant

How APC can retain Edo, by aspirant

Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant Dr. Pedro Obaseki has warned Governor Adams Oshiomhole against any imposition of candidate, saying that it may backfire.

He said the governor is not bigger than the party, recalling that last year, the governor’s candidate failed during the senatorial polls.

Obaseki urged the people, including Edo in the Diaspora, to make a good choice, adding that the choice they make will determine the progress of the state in the future.

The 49-year old politician stressed: “Edo is on the throes of motor park democracy. Change is good, but we must change properly.  I don’t have a godfather. God is my father. I will take my message to the Edo people, even in the Diaspora, to make a good choice.”

Oshiomhole has anointed Obaseki’s cousin, Godwin Obaseki, as his preferred candidate. The governor, who described the Chairman of the Edo State Economic Team as a competent technocrat and administrator, justified his decision, saying that he has the constitutional right to make a choice.

No fewer than eight aspirants are struggling for the ticket. Other contenders are Deputy Governor Pius Odubu, former Governor Osherhimen Osunbor, Gen. Charles Airhiavbere, a former minister, Chris Ogiemwonyi, Osarodion Ogie, and Kenneth Imasuagbon. Some of the APC contenders came from the PDP. Also, majority of the PDP aspirants defected from the APC.

Obaseki, a broadcaster and film maker, cautioned the APC against over-confidence, stressing that the PDP is roaring like a wounded lion, seeking to devour the ruling party.

He said: “Edo is not an APC state. I can make it an APC state, leveraging on the achievements of Oshiomhole.”

The aspirant said the onus is on Oshipmhole, who rode to power on the back of his ‘one man, one vote’ campaign and serious resistance to godfatherism, to learn from the past. he said any manipulation of the selection process in favour of any aspirant will be to the detriment of the party.

Obaseki also condemned what he described as the evil of money politics, adding that stomach infrastructure will not play any role during the election. He said: “Only God anoints. I am not rich in terms of the interpretation of stolen wealth.”

Reflecting on the zoning debate, the former university teacher said: “I will not sacrifice competence on the altar of zoning. Edo people are one.”

He also warned against violence during the primary, saying the perpetrators of violence will be taken to task.

Unfolding his programmes, Obaseki said: “Edo is my political message, ideology and focus.” He said he will focus on agriculture, health care system, education, employment generation, culture and tourism.

He lamented that “Edo is where it is because of leadership laziness,” stressing that its natural endowment can take it far, if properly harnessed.

Obaseki, who shed light on his health manifesto, lamented the lack of ambulance serve in the health sector. He promise to introduce the ‘Edo health Initiative,’ which he described as a coordinated health policy to redeem the health sector. He said he will also create a data base in the health sector detailing the health history of the people.

On agriculture, he said: “We have the land. Nigeria imports 63 percent of its palm oil, which Edo can produce.”

  • I ‘ll probe previous govts, says aspirant

I ‘ll probe previous govts, says aspirant

Though he has no previous experience of politics at any level, Blessing Agbonmhere, one of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in Edo State, is undaunted. He believes the time has come for youths to play a more active part in the governance of the state. Correspondent OSAGIE OTABOR examines his chances.

AT 37, Blessing Agbonmhere is the youngest governorship aspirant in Edo State the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC). A native of Fugar in Estako Central Local Government Area, Agbonmhere is a Public Relations (PR) consultant. He has utilized his PR background to his advantage. With a well-structured campaign with the slogan ‘Edo BAMM’, he has successfully garnered a large following within the ruling APC, particularly among the over 3000 delegates that will pick the flag bearer in the race.

But, securing the ticket will be a tall order for Agbonmhere, whose campaign is woven around a generational power shift to the youths. He would face a stiff opposition from other contenders, many of whom are now already grandfathers. The other contenders include: Deputy Governor Pius Odubu; Chris Ogiemwonyi; General Charles Airhiavbere; Don Pedro Obaseki; Chairman of Edo State Economic Team, Godwin Obaseki; and Dr. Ebegue Amadasun.

Though the APC is not categorical that zoning will play any role in picking its flag bearer, observers believe Agbonmhere is just fooling around. Coming from the Edo Central Senatorial zone where Governor Adams Oshiomhole comes from, they believe he does not stand any chance of emerging the candidate. Critics of Agbonmhere’s aspiration are therefore of the view that his decision to join the governorship race is a joke.

When confronted with this, he told reporters that he does not believe in zoning and that he is running, not because he is from Fugar, but because he belonged to the youth constituency that have been deprived from leadership for too long.

Agbonmhere said he has held several town hall meetings with stakeholders and met with indigenes in diaspora and that the consensus is that the time has come for young people to take over the leadership of Edo.

He said: “Young people are at the helm of affairs as far as the world economy is concerned. The most promising economy of the world is led by a young man. Edo State cannot be left out in the scheme of modernization. That is why we say it is the time for young people to take over. I represent these millions of young people; young professionals who want to contribute to governance of this state. We should be allowed to participate in governance. We should be allowed to participate in the issues that affect us.

“Young people have mandated me to lead this common sense revolution; a common sense crusade. The youth of this state have been behind the growth seen in this state today, despite the fact that they have been deprived from governance. We believe that by the time young people take over the leadership, Edo will be transformed to a mini Dubai. We have what it takes to build Edo, to take it to the future we dream about.

“The change we have been waiting for has come. Giving the youth a chance is the change we have been waiting for in Edo. Bringing back the people who have led us before, some of them who have led us astray, who did not contribute to the development of our young people while they were in government is failure. We don’t want Edo to be in chain. I am the new face of that change. We are going rearrange and reprogrammed Edo accordion to what Edo is known for. This state is known for tourist destination. Edo prides itself in culture. We have solid minerals and thrive in trade because of our location.”

On what he planned to achieve as a governor, Agbonmhere said he would adopt the model of Dubai because it is peculiar with Edo. He promised to establish the Edo Construction Company and provide jobs for 20,000 people. He said he would develop the state’s minerals resources to construct our roads, build basic infrastructure, as well as develop local manufacturing.

He said: “We will return back the marketing board. Each Senatorial district will have its own marketing board that will give credit facilities to farmers. The farmers will pay back with their harvest. We will bring back the furniture industry that has been taken over by the Turkish. Before today, furniture has been the business of Edo people. If you want furniture today with beautiful design, the only place you can get them is Turkey. We will bring factories that will train our people on how to package furniture for export and local consumption. That will grow the economy of the state. We will encourage local products to boost our economy. We will train manufacturers on packaging and grow the market for them.”

The aspirant, however, disclosed that his first task was to probe past administrations in the state, in line with the anti-corruption stance of President Mohammadu Buhari, including that of Oshiomhole.

He added: “My government will abolish corruption in Edo State. That is why the programme we have is to ensure that all our past leaders are probed. Whether they like it or not, we will ensure that whatever they have taken from Edo State, whatever they have wasted, they will bring back. And I will start from Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the present governor of Edo State.

“We will visit all the projects he has done to ascertain how much he has spent on the projects and if we see that Edo State has been sub charged, we will ensure that such monies will be refunded to the account of Edo State.

“We will also visit the Airport road project. We have been getting petitions from different groups and organisations on that projects, how [the first contractor] abandoned the project and left with some money unrefunded to the state.

“I tell people I am not a comrade, I am a patriot?. I don’t know the meaning of comrade. In the Nigerian law, we don’t know anything like Comrade. What we have in Nigerian law is patriotism. So, we young Nigerians should focus our intellectualism, our capacity and our capability in being patriotic to our state, not in being a comrade.

“We are probing because there are so many allegations of corruption against the present government and the allegations are hampering the chances of the party in the state.”

  • Aspirant lauds Tinubu at 64

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship aspirant in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, Mrs. Adeshola Openibo, has congratulated the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on his 64th birthday.

In a congratulatory message, Mrs. Openibo thanked Tinubu for giving Nigeria purposeful and responsible leadership.

Her words: “At every moment in the history of a people, men and women of outstanding qualities emerge to lead the people, either to the Promised Land or to their doom.

“Every situation, therefore, throws up appropriately, men and women of courage to articulate, project and defend their causes. They become rallying points upon which the society builds its core and strength with which it launches itself on the path of revival and self–renewal. One of such leaders is Tinubu.

“Asiwaju Tinubu is a rare leader who combines practical political acumen, strategic vision and moral principles. When the nation’s history is written, it will state that Tinubu’s rare courage and foresight guided the APC to become the ruling party.”

Mrs. Openibo wished Tinubu a very fulfilling celebration and prayed for more years of good health, wisdom, and grace with fruitful existence to self and humanity.

  • Aspirant urges APC to pick candidate from Akoko North

A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Prince Foluso Adefemi, has appealed to the leadership of the party to pick its governorship candidate from Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency.

Adefemi spoke with reporters on his preparations for the party primary, ahead of the poll, at his campaign office in Akure, the state capital.

The aspirant, who is from Afin Akoko in Akoko North West local government, lamented that the constituency has been marginalised in the distribution of political offices.

Ondo North Senatorial District has three federal constituencies; Owo/Ose, Akoko South West/Akoko South East and Akoko North East/ Akoko North West.

It is believed that the party candidate may likely come from Ondo North Senatorial District.

Adefemi said: “Looking at other constituencies, they always have the larger part when political positions are to be shared in the district.

“For instance, Owo and Akoko South West have produced governors before.

Also these two constituencies have also produced senators but we in Akoko North West/Akoko North East have not produced any

“So, I think people who belief in natural justice, we sympathize with us. That is why the party leadership must consider someone from that area as a candidate”.

The aspirant however noted that he is not desperate about his ambition and as a party man; he is ready to abide with the decision of the party.

He said his ambition was motivated by his desire to serve and free the people of Ondo State from bondage.

The governorship aspirant, however, declared that he would go back to his business if he fails to realize his aspiration, adding that politics should not be seen as a do-or-die affair.
