    NGOs endorse governorship aspirant

The governorship ambition of a Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) aspirant,  Dr. Michael Adegbola Dominic  got  a boost last week as two non-governmental organisations  (NGOs) declared their support for his candidature.  The two NGOs,  Action Against Impunity  and Corruption in Governance  (AACIG) and  Women  Development Initiative  for  Freedom  said the PDP in Lagos will do itself  a lot of good if it fields Dominic as its standard  flagbearer, adding that he stands out among other aspirants  who have shown interest in the ticket in all ramifications.

President of AACIG,    Austin  Emmanuel, who  made their position known on the forthcoming  governorship election in Lagos,   said  he has followed Dominic’s track record as a politician and medical  practitioner for over a decade and has come to  the conclusion that he is a honest and unblemished  politician whose sole aim of vying for the highest office in  Lagos is to “establish justice and create an enabling  environment for the downtrodden masses to thrive in  Lagos.

“We urge Lagos and non-Lagosians who want true change to  support his ambition for the realisation of the Lagos of our  dream. Most especially, we urge the PDP to consider him as  their candidate because he towers above all the other  aspirants in terms of experience, maturity and pedigree”, he stated.

In her reaction, Director of Women Development  Initiative,  Angela  Dada- Johnson said her group decided to support Dominic’s ambition because they believe he will give equal representation to women if he eventually  becomes the governor of the state.

“Dr. Dominic has done a lot for women through his  profession. Testimonies abound of how he has given succour  to  lots of women, especially widows  who visited  his Santa Maria hospital without a kobo and he attended to  their needs free of charge. Many of these people told us that  they are alive today because God used this man to save their  lives. This is the kind of man we want at the helm of affairs in Lagos so he can do much more” she said.

My plan for Lagos, by aspirant

Lagos State  All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain Mr. Adekunle Disu has unfolded his agenda, saying that infrastructural develop-ment would be his priority, if elected in next year’s election.

He spoke with reporters in Magodo, a Lagos suburb, shortly after he declared his ambition.

Disu said Asiwaju Bola Tinubu had laid a good foundation, which Governor  Babatunde Fashola had built upon in the last seven years. He promised to continue the work of development in the post-Fashola era.

The politician said the strategic location of Lagos has brought it into the front burner, stressing that Fashola’s successor should be a man of high vision, integrity and uncommon dynamism .

He added: “The next governor should be able to key into the dream and aspiration of the founding fathers. Therefore, if given the opportunity to serve the people, it will be unlimited development.”

He stressed: “Since the APC is noted for service to humanity, he is ready to make Lagos a safe and secure environment with efficient and accountable service to its citizens, driven by public-private sector collaboration.

  • Aspirant’s ambition gets a boost

The ambition of Friday Nwosu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Abia State for the 2015 general elections has received a boost as a group; Ikwuano/Umuahia Youths Assembly pledged support for his candidature.

The group stated that Nwosu possessed the best credentials to build on the foundation and legacies already laid by the Theodore Orji-led administration.

Spokesman of the group, Tony Oriaku, said his group was building on the wide support Nwosu enjoys among the PDP stalwarts and Abia stakeholders throughout the 17 local government areas.

Oriaku hinted that his group, in its last general meeting at Olokoro in Umuahia South Local Government Area, reviewed political developments in the state, adding that their findings informed their support for the PDP governorship aspirant.

According to him, the group’s decision to support the aspirant was borne out of what he termed his level-headedness and ability to sustain unity, peace and development through building on the foundations laid by the present administration in order to take Abia to the next level.

“We have considered all the aspirants for the Abia governorship seat for the 2015 general elections and discovered the PDP aspirant possesses the quality needed to enhance the socio-economic well-being of the people. We have watched with keen interest and critically analysed the aspirants and from all indications, it is clear that. Friday Nwosu is the best man for the job.

“Nwosu is a great philanthropist who had, out of his own resources, supported many pro-people causes without making noise about it. He is a friend of the less-privileged. When we analysed his programmes and activities even before he showed interest in the governorship race, we are convinced that Abia State would be safe with him as governor than other aspirants.

“It is therefore our conviction that, if he is supported to emerge governor of Abia State, he will certainly deliver,” he said.
