  • Asisat Oshoala to begin Captain’s role against Cote d Ivoire

     

    Barcelona ladies forward and Assisat Oshoala will begin her assignment as new Super Falcons skipper on Thursday in Abidjan.

    The falcons take on their Ivorian counterparts in the first leg of their two-legged Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers on Thursday and will be hoping to continue their impressive run after beating Algerian ladies both home and away.

    Led by caretaker coach Chris Danjuma, the team left Nigeria Tuesday for Abidjan and will be using Wednesday to feel the pitch and have last training ahead of the clash.

    Seven foreign based players and 11 home based players made the party to Abidjan. The second leg comes up on the 7th October at the Agege Stadium.

    Uncertainty however still surrounds the fate of Coach Thomas Dernneby who appears to have walked out of the job.

    Super Falcons set for Ivorian challenge

    Ivory Coast pulled a 3-0 aggregate score against Mali to get to qualify for the third round.  Other third round matches scheduled for this week include Cameroon versus DR Congo, Ghana versus Kenya and Zambia versus Botswana.

    The winner of the qualifying tournament books a place in the Tokyo Olympics while the runners up will enter a play-off against the second-placed team The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL)

  • Super Falcons, Barcelona Ladies get Assisat Oshoala boost

     

    Super Falcons and Barcelona ladies forward Assisat Oshoala has returned to training a development which has put smiles on the faces of technical crew of both teams.

    The three time African Women footballer of the year suffered a hamstring injury on the 17th of March in Barcelona’s game against Atletico Madrid.

    It was speculated then that the injury would keep her out of the game for at least five weeks, but the club interestingly confirmed on their twitter handle Tuesday that she has returned to light training and is likely to get into full action sooner than later.

    Oshoala who missed Falcons last set of friendly matches in Spain was seen in pictures released by the club jogging alongside teammates even as they intensify training ahead of their clash against Madrid CFF on Wednesday.

    Barcelona Ladies, who are occupying the second position on the Primera Division Femenina log behind table leaders Athletico Madrid, are going into Wednesday match fresh from a 6-0 demolition of Malaga last Saturday.

    Oshoala who joined the Spanish side from Chinese Super League Dalian Quanjian F.C has made over five appearances for the sides with five netting five goals. Although the 2015 BBC Women footballer of the year may not be on parade against Madrid tomorrow, there is however strong believe that she might get back into competitive in a pending tie against Sevilla at the end of the month.

     

     

     

     

  • Assisat Oshoala rattles fans with first daughter claim

     

    Could Super Falcons forward and three time African Women’s footballer of the year Assisat Oshoala be having a child that is not known to her teeming fans?

    Could she really be a single mother and member of the growing single mothers’ league? Is it possible that the former Arsenal Ladies ace that recently joined Barcelona ladies in Spain to continue her quest to reach the zenith in the round leather be having a grown up child that could actually be in the age bracket of 8-12?

    Those were the puzzles that took over the minds of many of her teeming fans following a photo she dished out on social media on Wednesday.

    The post in addition revealed that she may have been receiving a lot of suitors many of who pose questions over her marital status. One of the photos has the query “Are you single, followed by a cursive yes!

    The next photo placed side by side with the first introduces a shy but apparently young girl followed by the submission “My first daughter” which also indicates that the former Dalian Quanjian F.C. of China striker is looking forward to perhaps having more babies in future.

    The post has led to various speculations that the footballer may have been a victim of child pregnancy, before finding her foot and fame in football.

    One of those who reacted following the posts said “Most times, this type of single mothers are always successful because they learnt from their mistake, and want to prove to people they are not as dumb as they think”

    Another said “I respect your courage for showing the world your daughter, anyone who has interest in your will love you and your daughter” Another again followed while sounding as if he has been nursing the idea of proposing to the Super Falcons striker “Your first daughter or younger sister. The first daughter I  am seeing so is about twelve years old. Someone please tell me this news is not real biko”

    Few months back Assisat who has already netted three goals in two appearances for Barcelona bought a big house for her parents in the Ebute Metta Area of Lagos accompanying the posts then with an appreciation to God for achievement made

  • Oshoala connects with Barcelona fans in new video

     

    Three time African footballer of the year Assisat Oshoala who recently joined Barcelona ladies on loan from Chinese super League, Dalian Quanjian F.C, has extended hands of friendship to Barcelona fans as she prepares to get cracking with her new teammates.

    Although considered a short sojourn till end of the season the former Liverpool and Arsenal ladies ace appears determined to make the stay a worthwhile.

    The 2017 Chinese Women’s Super League Top scorer was seen in a video uploaded by the new club on twitter, informing the fans that a Falcon has indeed landed in the midst!

    The three time African women Championship winner and 2015 BBC women footballer of the year looks set to make a debut for the FC Barcelona Femení as the Barcelona ladies are called when they take on Albacete on Sunday. 

    Barcelona ladies occupy the second position on the 16-team Primera Division Femenina with 48 points in 18 games played so far just three points below log leaders Athletico Madrid.

    Barcelona ladies have won the local league four times 2011–12, 2012–13, 2013–14, 2014–15 while winning the Copa Catalunya a record nine times since it was floated in 2005.

    Oshoala is not the only Falcon that has pitched tent with new club just after the AWCON triumph in Ghana,  Rashidate Ajibade had just before the end of the tourney joined Norwegian side Avaldsnes Idrettslag on a two year deal.

    Super Falcons ace and African footballer of the year Assisat Oshoala is in thanks giving mood after successfully acquiring a two story building for her parents in the Costrain Area of Lagos state.

    The Dalian Quanjian F.C.of China ace who described herself as a “Small Girl with a big God” thanked God for the feat achieved; a gift which a close pal said has taken the parents of the former Arsenal ace to cloud 9.

    Assisat who was reported to have demanded that the fashionable jersey lunched at the Russia 2018 World cup be equally showcased by the Super Falcons had captioned his post announcing the purchase of the house thus;

    Oshoala found success as a forward for Nigeria’s youth teams but made most of her early appearances for the senior national team as an attacking midfielder. She was nicknamed “Seedorf” after male footballer Clarence Seedorf and has also been referred to as “Superzee” by her teammates.

    She was named best player and with seven goals was also the top goal scorer at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. She was named best player and second top goalscorer with the Super Falcons team who won the 2014 African Women’s Championship claiming  BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2015.

    In September 2014 Oshoala was made a Member of the Order of the Niger by President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan. On 8 June 2015 in Winnipeg, Canada, Oshoala opened her senior FIFA Women’s World Cup account by scoring Nigeria’s second goal in a 3–3 draw with Sweden.

    The former Robo Fc and Rivers Angels star made a surprise move to Chinese club Dalian Quanjian F.C. in February 2017 from Arsenal Ladies. Some die-hard female football lovers who spoke to The Nation  on her achievements so far said she has a lot of prospect adding that her case should ginger parents to encourage and support their female children in whatever career they chose in life as “you never can say where the needed liberation from poverty will come from”

    Oshoala can be said to be completely af home in China with Nigerian legion led by Super Eagles Captain John Obi Mikel also China based.

    The Super Falcons of Nigeria in spite of their 2-0 loss to a technically sound Australian team on Friday at the Winnipeg Stadium had insisted that God was still with the team.
    One of the Super Falcons players who spoke with NationSports confessed that the team did not play to Coach Edwin Okon’s instructions.
    “Today was our bad day. I can’t say the God of soccer failed us because we did not do the right thing. Our coach told us that we needed to fight together but we did not,” she said.
    The Most Valuable Player (MVP)  of the match against Sweden, Ngozi Akobi was however of the opinion that the players did not put up the fighting spirit that was synonymous with the team in their opening match against Sweden.
    “Only God knows why we were not coordinated, we were so anxious,”  she revealed.
    There was however a notion that the Nigerian team was more of a spiritual team than other teams. This was captured by some Australian journalists in their tabloid prior to the match against the Coach Edwin Okon led team.
    However the Super Falcons Coach who is also known in the tournament as one who believes and associate his victory to God admitted that his team lost to a team that had a technical depth than his team but was  also spiritually sound.
    In separate interviews with some other players of the team, after their match against Australia, they admitted that the team lacked cohesion this time around which according to them was indeed baffling as they had all come out prepared for the match.
    The team’s ace player, Assisat Oshoala who was substituted in the game during the heat of the match told NationSports that: “God did not fail us, I guess it was over confidence on our part. We still have a lot to do to make sure we get the best point, “she said.
    The Super Falcons will play their 3rd  Group D match against USA on Tuesday in Vancouver.
