    Business network empowers 250 women

    Association of Nigeria Women Business Network (ANWBN) has trained over 250 women in communities in the North.

    The initiative, a collaboration with Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), was aimed at building digital skills of businesses and women entrepreneurs to engage in digital economy by implementing a training programme: “Digital Literacy & E-commerce Training for Women-Owned Businesses” for women entrepreneurs.

    The sessions were held in Kuje and Lugbe  in Abuja, as well as Nyanya in Nasarawa State.

    ANWBN National Coordinator, Gbemisola Oduntan noted the association’s commitment to improving the lives of women.

    “We are passionate about the economic empowerment of women. We want government policies reformed, especially those that hinder women from reaching their full potential.

    “Our aim is to liberate women, make them independent, and show them they can achieve great things without relying on other   The programme focused on equipping women with digital skills to thrive,” she said.

    Former National Coordinator and Project Director, Mrs. Angela Ajala, highlighted key areas of training, including Website development, Digital marketing, Online sales platforms, Pricing Strategies and Social media management.

    Ajala explained that the initiative aimed to address challenges faced by women in northern Nigeria, and provide them with tools to overcome barriers and succeed.

    Project Manager, Amede Olisa-Achingale, noted that it is to create systemic change and open global opportunities for women entrepreneurs.

    She stressed importance of digital skills in the modern economy, noting on-boarding women entrepreneurs onto the new ANWBN SheCommerce  platform would unlock opportunities for women to achieve financial independence.

    National Treasurer, Tosin Sodeinde, stressed the potential for financial freedom to participants, emphasising need for women to contribute to families’ economic stability.

    Association of Nigeria Women Business Network (ANWBN) has restated its commitment to ensuring women get the recognition they deserve and opportunity to thrive.

    This, it intends to achieve by empowering women to leverage on trends in the business landscape.

    National Coordinator, Gbemisola Oduntan, spoke at the association’s summit: Future-ready Entrepreneurs: Skill up to Scale up’.

    She said women should be better at whatever they do to be empowered and get better bargains.

     “We have looked at ourselves and decided we need to do more for ourselves if we want to be at the table with men. We must have the skills to scale up our businesses so we can be at the right place at the right time, and take up opportunities available for us.

    “This is what we have done at this conference. We have spoken on how to scale up. We have taught how to get to the next level to achieve more than what we are doing, and take up opportunities from the government as well as environment’’, she said.

    “We want to be a voice to be reckoned with when decisions are taken concerning us. We want to be empowered to speak up and get better. We want to shatter the ceilings. We want to be in the forefront of what is happening in the country, and for us to achieve these; we must improve ourselves.”

    Outgoing National Coordinator, Mrs. Angela Ajala, said the summit is to examine realities and challenges which every woman grapples with, and evolve solutions to make them better. She noted that women must get the requisite skills to shine to become empowered to lead.
