  • Bafarawa lashes Wamakko, others for snubbing Sultan

    FORMER Governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa on Thursday berated his successor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko and the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for not honouring a peace meeting summoned by Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad.

    Bafarawa spoke at the state PDP rally for the reelection of Governor Amninu Waziri Tambuwal in Wamakko town.

    According to the former governor, the revered leader organised to meet with all candidates and chieftains of political parties with a view to advise them to ensure peaceful political rallies and conduct of elections but the APC contingents snubbed the meeting.

    “I recall the Sultan called for a peace meeting to ensure violent- free polls in the state. The reason was that we are all indigenes and should be up to the task of achieving peace.

    “But to our dismay, the absence of the APC gubernatorial candidate only portrayed that he is working on the instructions of his boss (Wamakko).”

    Bafarawa noted the state needed peace not violence, pointing out “Everything has time. My time and Wamakko’s had passed and we ought to know that by coming together to build the state.”

    He assured the people of Wamakko town that Tambuwal’s government was set to bring succour to all in the state” he will do better the way I did in my days as governor.”

    The former governor assured that youths would be considered in the scheme of things if Tambuwal was reelected, saying “the youths need to be supported and empowered to lead.”

    He commended Tambuwal for the relative peace enjoyed in the state, noting the ban on youths bearing arms during political rallies was commendable.

    “Tambuwal will prioritise peace, security, employment and infrastructural development of the state,” he assured.

    Governor Tambuwal, who thanked supporters for consistently standing by him and the party, promised to reposition the state and reward all by ensuring the spread of dividends of democracy and good governance.

  • 2019: Tambuwal inaugurates re-election campaign committee

    Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Tuesday inaugurated state wide campaign committee for his re-election on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) ‎with Engineer Bello Suleiman as chairman of the main committee.

    He said the party was fast strengthening its popularity ahead of forming government at both state and federal levels.

    ‎Tambuwal while inaugurating the committee at the conference hall of the newly commissioned International Conference Centre, Sokoto said the party would through the various sub-committees would engage in campaigns to every nook and cranny to persuade and attract people’s support for the party ahead of 2019 polls.

    According to Tambuwal” PDP remain a platform for people with focus, resilience and accommodating.

    “Our party is an all-inclusive platform for both young, old, youth and women.”

    The governor however, seized the space to dispel rumour going round he was on a 40 day leave.

    “I have not embarked on any leave. I am in Sokoto with you. I am not going anywhere‎.

    “I want all and sundry to know that my life and survival are in the hands and control of God”, he stated.

    Also speaking, former Governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa noted that the massive support being enjoyed by PDP in the state was a reflection and result of Tambuwal’s untiring efforts.

    Bafarawa who contested the ‎party’s presidential ticket alongside Tambuwal said the party would continue to move from strength to strength adding” we have no other dependable platform and overwhelming support of large followership than in PDP.

    “I urge every one of us in the state to be committed to our 2019 dreams and rally support  for Tambuwal and his running mate as well our presidential candidate, Atiku‎ Abubakar for victory.”

    Earlier, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, state PDP chairman observed with joy the large crowd of followers describing it as a good omen for the party’s candidates at all levels.

    “We are resilient towards our dream of emerging victorious”, he pointed out.

    Meanwhile, those in attendance include Deputy Governor Mannir Dan Iya, former deputy Governor, Mukhtari Shagari, Alhaji Ummaru Kwabo A.A, the state SSG, party leaders, members of the state executive council‎ among numerous others.

     

     

  • Saraki, Bafarawa, chides Buhari over Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges

    The duo of Senate President, Bukola Saraki and former Sokoto state governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, both aspiring for the endorsements of PDP delegates for election as Presidential candidate of the party, have blamed the policies and programs of President Buhari’s government as responsible for the present economic and political downturn being experienced in the country, and promised to do ‘’damage control’’, if elected

    Both Presidential hopefuls were respectively in Katsina to campaign for votes from the party delegates to the National convention slated for Port Harcourt, Rivers state on Saturday October 6

    Saraki further advocated generational change in the leadership of the country adding that Nigeria was in need of young and courageous leaders that would bring about the needed socio-economic transformation people are yearning for.

    He said politics at the global level today was centered on youths as leaders, and that Nigeria would be wise to tow such line during the forthcoming general elections.

    He said ‘It was due to this that I decided to offer myself to Nigerians as a viable candidate for Aso Rock, on platform of the PDP.

    “Nigeria needs strong and courageous leaders. Politics in Nigeria today requires tested and courageous people. It is time for the youths to rule the country,”

    Saraki said he was confident of delegates from the state casting their vote for him for the party’s presidential ticket.

    He said his confidence was based on his strong relationship with several PDP stakeholders, particularly the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua as well as ex-governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema.

    He assured that if elected, he would give priority to addressing the problem of poverty in the country, as well as ensure proper representation for the people as nation’s president.

    He said Katsina PDP was first in the country to elect a consensus candidate in person of Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke that would fly the party’s ticket for the governorship polls in the state.

    He called on party members to elect candidates of the party come next general election s, so that the country would be free from the challenges APC had created.

    Bafarawa on his part said as state governor for eight years, he did not receive any salaries, but could afford to purchase a nomination form in the range of President Buhari’s.

    He wondered why the president would need anyone to buy him the form, even though he had been nation’s leader and occupied various juicy posts in the past.

    On his campaign, Bafarawa said he had traversed through 30 states in the country by road to meet with delegates on his presidential ambition.

    He said if elected, he would carry out what he described as “damage control” to take the country out of the malaise the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) had put her into.

    He said as president, he would not bother about probing into what the APC government had done or refused to do, but would work out ways the nation can move forward socio-economically.

    He however called on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to allow for fairness and level playing field for all its aspirants during its presidential primary and express confidence in the delegates from the state casting their vote for him for the party’s Presidential ticket.

    Speaking, the party’s chairman in the state, Salisu Majigiri condemned the ruling All Progressive Congress-led (APC) government of flouting court orders.

    Majigiri said the APC has little regard for the rule of law, and was in habit of not giving the National Assembly (NASS) the recognition it deserved.

  • 2019: Buhari will be easy to defeat – Bafarawa

    Former governor of Sokoto state and PDP Presidential Aspirant, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa has declared that defeating President Muhammadu Buhari will be easy task if all the aspirants join hand together with the party.

    Bafarawa, who, made the remark on Friday in Kano while interacting with PDP state delegates in an effort to solicit for their support ahead of the forthcoming PDP presidential primaries, said the unity and political stability is the most important thing to be done among all the stakeholders and party leadership in order to defeat APC in 2019.

    Bafarawa frowned at the issue of political bickering and attacks among party elders in the media as reason that will destroy party unity and cohesion before the general election.

    “There is no reason whatsoever to see some certain party elders fighting each other through media, such can destabilize our collective unity and chances to defeat ruling APC.

    “All such noise and threat among party leaders across board are meant to create disunity by some of whom are not happy with our current success in the country,” said Bafarawa.

    He assured that nothing will stop him from defeating other aspirants in the forthcoming National convention of the party as he has the entire needed requisite to lead the party to success in the 2019 Presidential election.

    “I am not afraid, I will never see any of the aspirants as a threat to get our party ticket, I will surely defeat and secure the mandate.

    “My reasons, why I said I will beat Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso both in Kano and also at the Presidential primaries hands down, are just simply, because he did not perform. What he promised to deliver to the people was not achieved, because the people did not see it on the ground. So beating him is just as simple as ABC.

    Commenting on the controversy surrounding the venue of the National convention, Bafarawa said this is normal, there must be crisis in politics, if there are no arguements or disagreements, then there will be no solution to such problems.

    Speaking earlier, the Kano state PDP Chairman, Senator Mas’ud Jibrin Doguwa assured Bafarawa of total support and endorsement of PDP Kano in order to realise his ambition of leading Nigeria.

    He said PDP Kano state belongs to genuine party supporters, not any individual adding that no one can intimidate or frighten them to succumb easily on party issues in the state.

    “Bafarawa, you are a real democrat, man of honour and  great leader who understand how to tackle the problem of our country through collective and peaceful means. Therefore, people of Kano are your supporters,”Doguwa said.

  • Breaking: EFCC: Court discharges Bafarawa, two others

    A Sokoto State High Court presided over by Justice Bello Abbas on Wednesday discharged former Governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa standing trial over a case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

    Also discharged were Alhaji Salihu Maibuhu Gummi and Nasiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, a younger brother to the PDP presidential aspirant.

    Justice Abbas while ruling on the case after arguments and submissions by counsels to both parties in the matter, said the arguments and evidences given by the prosecution ‎Counsel lacked substance and proven weight and therefore, discharged and acquitted the accused persons.

    Bafarawa had been standing trial for 8 years on a 22 count charge ranging from breach of trust, corruption and embezzlement of state funds.

    Herdsmen/farmers killings purely political – Bafarawa

    Former Governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa has described as purely political the spade of alleged killings of farmers by herdsmen  in parts of the country.

    He blamed the federal government for not heeding to advise ‎that would give people the opportunity to evolve measures that would address the menace.

    ‎In an interview with reporters in Sokoto Sunday evening, Bafarawa described as unfortunate what the country was going through at a time lots of challenges were before its domain.

    According to him” politicians have succeeded in penetrating the two sides involved in the crisis.

    ”What has conventional herdsmen have to do with guns and why now?”, he rhetorically asked.

    ”If the FG had listened to the views of the people right from time the killings we are witnessing would not have continued”, he said.

    While commenting on the administration of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the former governor noted that Tambuwal’s government owe Sokoto people lot of explanations especially his refusal to declare what he inherited from his predecessor.

    ”He has problems but maybe for fear of exposing him that is why he refuses to talk.

    ”For me, I did not leave Wamakko with problems because I made everything clear to him even to the extend of making public every detail concerning the N13bn I left behind. I still have the prove which both Wamakko and Mukhtari his deputy later admitted.‎

    ”He should have toe my path to declare what he inherited.”

    However, on the sidelines, the state PDP  chairman, ‎Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma said the party has the capacity to win elections in 2019.

    According to him” we will capitalise on the weaknesses of the ruling APC to have a smooth sail.

    ”Our party is not a small party. He said the seeming lack of opposition in the state does not make PDP weak or non existent rather we are studying happenings.

    ”Secondly, the governor respects us. And if there is need to raise or take him on over issues on state affairs, we will do that for him to take correction”, he concluded.

    Former Governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa and Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) stalwart has said that unless the party exhibits the principle and spirit of honesty and collective participation, the leadership of the country will not be grabbed.

    He said the PDP has to put it’s arts together in that direction otherwise it quest for the country’s leadership will be difficult to come bye on a platter of gold.

    Bafarawa spoke when he received officials of the Sokoto state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ ) on a courtesy visit to him at ‎his residence in Sokoto.

    The one time presidential candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party ( DPP ) also noted that the media remain the live wire of any society, adding that” the media  will only ‎succeed if practitioners are fair and fearless in their reportage.

    According to him” Democracy without the media is like tea without sugar. ‎The media is the back bone of governance and development particularly in a democratic setting.

    “Therefore, journalists who kill stories, kill themselves. What is killing Nigeria’s democracy is arm chair journalism”, he pointed out.

    The former Sokoto state governor who is also the proprietor of the newly established Garkuwa FM radio station in Sokoto further appealed to meida practitioners and journalists to improve and engage in investigative journalism to better the patriotic zeal and commitment to the development, peace and stability of Nigerians and  the country’s democratic institutions‎.
