‘Why Saraki didn’t attend APC meetings’

Senate President Bukola Saraki has explained why he did not attend Monday’s National Caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Tuesday’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja.

Saraki said he was away in Benin, Edo State, attending an intervention programme, ”Roundtable on migration and human trafficking”, organised by the Senate.

“Dr. Saraki and his delegation, including senators, returned to his Abuja home at 7.45pm, while the APC National Caucus meeting was scheduled to begin by 8.00 pm on the same night.

“Clearly, there was no way he could have arrived at the venue on time, especially as it would be a breach of protocol to do so at a meeting presided over by the President”, a statement yesterday by his Media Adviser Yusuph Olaniyonu said. It stated that Saraki could not attend the NEC meeting because he was at the Code of Conduct Tribunal in continuation of his trial for alleged corruption .

Olaniyonu said by law, Saraki must be physically present at the tribunal as the defendant, adding: “It stands to reason that he cannot be in two places at once, and so he was unavoidably absent at the NEC meeting.

  • Resume for govt jobs needs transferable skills

In these times of economic instability, nothing is more beneficial for most companies than to hire efficient people with a large set of varying skills. These people are those who are flexible and well-rounded to carry on and coordinate multiple tasks.

Government offices like private companies are on the lookout for these special types of employees. Because federal funds are restricted and limited, they would always make it a point to maximise and spend these funds on people who are worth the money and time of the organisation. They want someone who not just know the specific job, but someone who has the abilities and values to accomplish many types of duties and the knowledge necessary to realise different goals.

That being said, it is then very necessary that a resume for government jobs includes relevant and general abilities that are valuable across a multitude of jobs and industries. Unlike before when jobs are suggestively the same to develop specialisation and expertise, this time around, what most employers require are the existence of what we call “transferable skills.”

    What are transferable skills?

Transferable skills are basically those acquired abilities that are beneficial and pertinent to a wide variety of jobs and industries. They may have been gained from previous employments, school, past trainings, or even from a personal experience at home or with friends. Among the most common examples of transferable skills are “self-motivation,” “communication,” “creativity,” “problem-solving skills,” “leadership,” “flexibility,” “time management,” and “customer service orientation.”

    Transferable skills and their

    appeal to government offices

Besides the fact that most government institutions want to economise human resources through the employment of a well-rounded and highly skilled staff, these government bodies require exemplary-skilled applicants. These are the applicants who have strong rational and technical skills and likewise the expertise to communicate with others and work effectively with a group of people. Most especially that more than a hundred applicants battle for a single spot, there is nothing more effective than to evaluate people based on what they could do and what they could offer compared to other applicants.

Amplifying transferable skills in resume for

    government jobs

Though transferable skills are somewhat applicable in almost any type of jobs, applicants should still be wary of the particular skills that are best suited to a given profession. Basically, they need to check on the particular job opening, assess the skills and requirements needed in those open posts, and apply the greatest skills that best match the prerequisites.

For example, a person who is to apply as an account representative should not amplify merely his/her experience in clerical works or her background in administrative duties and computer activities. Instead, he/she should apply transferable skills and focus on magnifying her experience through the use of such qualities.

For instance, to intensify her experience in administrative duties, she may write about her customer service and interpersonal skills experienced, which were best applied to her involvement with a large variety of personalities and management levels. She may also boast of her effective time management skills as evidenced by the multiple tasks she was able to manage simultaneously on her previous employment.

To sum up, resume for government jobs no longer stands as a basic enumeration of all the jobs held within the last few years or so. What is more vital in today’s time is the edge of one applicant over another. For this, it is advised to apply necessary and relevant transferable skills on the resume and amplify them on each task accomplished for every employment.

According to Africa Development Officer, Ahmed Dawlatly, the top four players in the singles tournament for boys and girls would automatically be selected for the scholarships.

For the President, Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), Wahid Oshodi, efforts would be geared toward grassroots development, as it is obvious that other nations are now catching up with Nigeria in the game.

“We have identified that we need to start encouraging our young players and this is one of the visions of the federation and for us this kind of programme will surely help us to expose our players to top class training and competition. We were lucky to have such a programme last year and we hope our players will also garner more knowledge by taking part in this exercise holding in Kenya,” he said.

The Nigeria Team was also accompanied by players’ representative in the NTTF board, Tajudeen Agunbiade while the trip was made possible with the singular support of Bankole Animashaun, a friend of table tennis.

Describing the emergence of Oba Lawal as a divine arrangement, Bello said the monarch’s reign has brought development, peace and harmonious co-existence to Ede.

  • Workers decry order to attend LP rally

    •ACN slams forceful attendance

Civil servants in Ondo State yesterday criticised the manner the government forced them to attend the Labour Party (LP) rally held in Akure.

One of the workers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, accused the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) of compromising the professionalism of labour unions.

He said: “It is forbidden for civil servants to be publicly partisan. We can belong to any party we want. We should not be coerced to support a particular party.”

The civil servant said the government “through our union leaders mandated us not to go to office today (yesterday) to partake in the LP rally held at the Democracy Park, Akure.”

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has condemned the deceptive plan of the Mimiko administration to hoodwink the people of the state, especially public servants.

A statement signed by the party’s publicity secretary, Mr. Rotimi Agbede, said the latest act of the LP would not yield any dividend as the people are determined to effect a change on Saturday and install a focused and purposeful government.

ACN said: “The decision of the people cannot be induced by material gains or subdued by threats by the government and its satanic agents.

“The people, having seen the ongoing transformation in the Southwest states and Edo, are eager to join their kith and kin in the regional integration agenda of the ACN.”

The party flayed the despicable act perpetrated by the LP government to force civil servants to attend its rally.

It said: “Information reaching us from the state secretariat has it that a special task force stationed at the secretariat has been moving from one office to another, forcing the workers to abandon their offices for onward mobilisation to the venue of the rally.

“The task force members make this illegal act more effective. Civil servants were asked to write their names as they boarded vehicles parked in front of the secretariat.

“ACN views this as the height of desperation by the LP government and willful breach of the constitutional rights of the workers to exercise their discretion in supporting a candidate of their choice.”

The party said it is ironic that a government which claims to enjoy the support and confidence of the people has to resort to forceful mobilisation of workers to its rally to present to the public a semblance of popular support.

ACN stressed that the government has to resort to the crude act, having failed this time round to persuade the workers with the N2, 000 it offered during the last rally.

“It is not surprising that the LP administration has to go this far because it cannot comprehend the unprecedented massive support being enjoyed by the ACN as manifested by the large turnout at the various redemption rallies and show of open support by the people of the state,” the party said.

  • Governor forcing civil servants to attend his rally, says ACO

THE Akeredolu Campaign Organisation (ACO) has accused Governor Olusegun Mimiko and the Labour Party (LP) of forcing civil servants in Ondo State to attend his rally billed for today in Akure.

It said this is not only unfair, but is a breach of the civil service rules.

The Director of Media, Publicity and Strategy of the ACO, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, said in a statement that the Mimiko administration has thrown caution to the wind by forcing civil servants against their wish to attend his rally.

He said: “Is Mimiko saying civil servants do not have the right to make their choice? Is Mimiko saying Ondo State civil service is now his property? Why would Mimiko, who claimed to have been in government for the past 20 years, not able to obey service rules because of his ambition?

“For us in ACO, we are disgusted at the activities of the LP in trampling on the right of the civil servants who have been shortchanged in the so-called minimum wage.”

But a statement by the Mimiko Campaign Organisation (MCO) yesterday said workers and artisans will today hold a rally for Mimiko’s re-election.

Spokesman for the MCO, Kola Olabisi, said the rally will be coordinated by the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Abdulwaheed Omar and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Peter Esele.
