    Aspiring actors storm “MTV Shuga” auditions

    Aspiring actors trooped to Planet One, Maryland, Lagos, last Saturday to attend an open audition for award-winning drama series, “MTV Shuga”.

    The wannabees waited hours for their turns, forming queues that stretched well outside the perimeter of the audition venue. The panel of judges, which included movie directors; Tope Oshin, Ishaya Bako and Tolu Ajayi appraised the acting skills of participants.

    Speaking on the auditions for the new series, the Executive Director of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation and Senior Vice President of Social Responsibility for Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN), Georgia Arnold said: “We are amazed by the great turn out at the auditions which offers a great platform to discover acting talent who can convey the MTV Shuga messaging. We are now poised to produce a really good drama that will trigger important conversations on sexual health which will engender positive lifestyle choices amongst young people.”

    Also speaking at a press briefing, Monde Twala, Vice President, BET, Youth & Music, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa said; “Young people want to get more from entertainment.

    “They hope to walk away with something authentic; with messaging that reflects who they are and can guide them through the thick channel of dynamic life issues. At MTV Base we are pleased to continue to be a key and primary partner in the MTV Shuga project; making sure that we continue to spearhead this very important messaging that can change lives and empower young people”.

    The MTV Shuga TV drama series, which has had five successful seasons in Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, will have a strong emphasis on family planning and contraception as well as other issues affecting young people; using gripping storylines portrayed by Nigerian talent.

    Actors who were successful at the audition will be announced on a later date and will join returning cast members; Sharon Ezeamaka, Timini Egbuson and Jemima Osunde on set for the new season.

  • Life Continental Beer holds auditions in Port Harcourt

    Life Continental Beer has held its second regional auditions for Hi-Life Fest in line with its objective of promoting progress in the society. The event, held last week at the Joseph Yobo Mini Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State was in line with the firm’s search for the next king of highlife.

    Speaking at the regional final, Regional Trade Marketing Manager Port Harcourt, Nigerian Breweries Plc, John Adesola, reaffirmed the brand’s commitment to the progress and culture of the people of the South-East.

    “Highlife music is an integral part of the rich Igbo culture, this is evidenced in the success of legends like Chief Stephen Oliver De Coque, Celestine Ukwu, Osita Osadebe, Bright Chimezie and many others. This genre of music remains important to our consumers, and the Hi-Life Fest serves to remind them of our brand’s commitment to their lifestyle and progress,” he said.

    Also, registrations and auditions were held from May 1 to May 4 at Veroz Rest and Bar, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt, culminating in the semi-finals at the same venue on May 5.

    A team of judges consisting of seasoned music producers and guest personalities witnessed numerous performances while they also engaged the audience in deciding the best Hi-Life acts at the event. The winner of the auditions in Port Harcourt, Roselyn Akpan expressed her excitement saying: “Highlife music has always being a part of me, and winning the regional competition is basically a dream come true. Life Continental Beer has created a platform for me to express my love for this genre of music and I am grateful for that”.

    Roselyn Akpan joins Umunnakwe Nwajiaku, winner from the Owerri regional auditions as they await winners from other regional auditions in the grand finale in Onitsha where the overall winner will be rewarded with the sum of one million naira and a one-year recording deal.

    Auditions continue in Enugu from May 15 to May 21, followed by auditions in Aba from June 5 to June 11, with the grand finale holding in Onitsha on June 25, 2017.

    Organisers of the God’s Children’s Got Talent show have announced that the regional auditions will start airing from May 6 on Hip TV, OH TV, Dove TV and Ebony Life TV.

    Individuals with various talents from the Lagos region stormed the Ultima Studios in Lekki to showcase their innate gifts before the scouts, with hopes for a chance to be selected into the regional competition and become winner of GCGT season 7 during the finals in June.

    The incredible level of talent displayed by the contestants showed resounding dedication, passion and true commitment, as the regional GCGT scouts were held spell bound.  To advance into the regional finals, all three-talent scouts per audition room had give to give a ‘yes vote’ to the auditioning contestant. Only exceptional contestants found agreement in unison from the talent scouts.

    Acro-dancers; Kehinde Olawonuola and Rachael Whyte, Violinist; Balogun Emmanuel, Drummer Boy; Oribi Ibiski as well as Pianist, Munachi Mso were among numerous talents who impressed the scouts and got the nods to proceed in the next round of the  Lagos regional competition.

    Vocal expert, Ben Ogbeiwi also known as Uncle Ben while commenting about the Lagos auditions said: “I’m impressed by the amount of contestants who have come from far and wide to audition in Lagos. Anyone who knows me already has an idea that I look out for the best talents. I don’t condone mediocrity especially where talents are concerned. The best have been selected and I wish all contestants good luck as they progress in the main competition.”

    On-Air-Personality, Gloria Maduka also applauded the talents as she expressed that, “The talents here are just too much. They have shown a lot of passion and displayed a high level of expertise. They have literarily wowed me at this regional auditions and I can confidently say it is bringing the GCGT auditions to a great end.”

    UNIPORT next on Fayrouz L’Original auditions

    Known for its history as a fashion centre in Nigeria, a sense of belonging will engulf Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital once again, as organisers of creative talent hunt show, Fayrouz L’Original, make their entry into the University of Port Harcourt this weekend.

    Still at the audition stage, the Port Harcourt edition is coming after last weekend’s highly patronised event at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

    Billed to hold this Saturday, at the International Student Centre Conference Hall, the audition will have talented students of UNIPORT and other cities within the South Region, showcasing their artistic talents in the areas of fashion designing, modelling, photography and make-up artistry.

    The event will be anchored by fashion experts such as ace photographer, Kelechi Amadi-Obi, National Retail Artiste House of Tara Rhema Akabuogu and renowned designers, Mai Atafo and Kunbi Oyelese of April by Kunbi who make up the jury.

    Organisers say the winning team will be chosen to represent the region and contest with four other teams at the semi-final stage of the competition, holding at the Obudu Cattle ranch, Calabar, in June.

    The Port Harcourt audition will be followed by another on May 30, at the University of Nigeria, Enugu, before rounding off at the University of Lagos on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6.

    In its second season, the show, tagged the Fayrouz L’Original Expression is sponsored by Fayrouz, and aims to reward young creative talents.

  • MDA regional auditions begin

    All is now set for the regional auditions of the family dance show, Maltina Dance All sponsored by Maltina.

    The regional auditions form the platform for selecting family representatives who will be expected to ensure their families’ eligibility in the contest before the show proper kicks off.

    According to the organisers, the regional auditions will hold in Port Harcourt at the Atrium Event Centre on July 18 and 19; the Lagos auditions will take place at the National Theatre from July 24 to 26 while the Abuja auditions will come up at the Nicon Luxury Hotel on August 1 and 2.

    During the regional auditions, consumers and contesting families stand a chance to win regional dance competition prizes.

    Speaking on the show, Mr. Adewole Adedeji, Senior Brand Manager, Maltina, stated that building any brand that can stand the test of times and leave footprints in the sands of time is a very long journey.

    “We are also very excited about what season eight of MDA has in store for us. You will agree with me that eight years is a long time for a show to still remain relevant; and we’re very glad that Maltina, through MDA, continues to bring the brand experience of sharing happiness and fun to the consumer. The MDA Rhythm of Happiness edition will be refreshingly unique because we put a lot of work into it. Every year, there is something bigger and better,” Adedeji said.

    He further revealed that the winning family would go home with the grand prize of N10 million. The first and second runners-up will also get N3 million and N1 million respectively.

    The TV show will be aired from September 7, on major TV networks with videos uploaded on YouTube and Facebook.

    As it prepares to stage the seventh edition of its TV series, Tinsel and film feature initiative, AfricaMagic Original Films, AfricaMagic is has now announced auditions for new TV and film stars.

    According to the management, this is part of its contribution to the development of local productions of film and TV initiatives in Nigeria.

    The auditions, according to information, are scheduled to hold simultaneously on Thursday and Friday May 1 and 2 from 7a.m. to 5p.m. at different locations across the country as well as neighbouring countries, including Ghana.

    According to the organisers, venues of the auditions include Protea Hotel, SS Lounge, Victoria Island, both in Lagos, and the Theatre Arts Department Hall, University of Ibadan.

    The auditions, according to a release, seek to provide the opportunity for talented Nigerians to live their dreams of starring in the popular soap opera or in an AfricaMagic movie, while launching their acting careers to a continental audience. It is open to male and female.

    The Regional Director, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, said: “AfricaMagic is always excited to be a part of the fast- growing African film and television industry. We are equally excited at the opportunity to create pure African contents. But more importantly, we have the chance to continue to tell the African story on a continent wide platform.”

    The first season of Africa’s first-ever TV music and game show, Star The Winner Is, has begun with an exciting first stage of auditions.

    Organisers of the show have announced that the ancient city of Benin will play host to thousands of hopefuls, who are set to bring their all for a life-time opportunity to slug it out on the first-of-its-kind show.

    Interested applicants in Benin and its environs will converge on Constantial Hotel, Benin on Tuesday April 29, a development that is intended to spark up a region-wide tour spanning five cities in Nigeria.

    “We already have thousands of registered Nigerians ready for the auditions and we can’t wait to begin the first step to finding the winner of the maiden edition of this life-changing show,” said Tokunbo Adodo, Marketing Manager Star, Goldberg and Export.

    He further said: “The response we have received so far has been overwhelming. Nigerians are about the most talented vocalists in the continent and we are certain that Star The Winner Is will provide yet another solid platform to re-emphasize this.”

    The show has an unusual feature of 101 in-studio panel of music enthusiasts and specialists, judging finalists who emerge from the final auditions.

    IT was a simultaneous occurrence in the Federal Capital territory and the ancient city of Benin, as the MTN Project Fame team hoisted banners that pooled music wannabes in their hundreds to the audition venues.

    It is the 6th edition of the music reality show, and a feel of what is to be expected when the show kicks off properly is already brewing; starting from the National Centre for Women Development, Abuja, and the Constantial Hotel in Benin, centers of the auditions, talents were on display, and so were the not too talented who ended up giving the event some comic relief.

    Having been scheduled to discover the next set of musical talents in Nigeria which the MTN Project Fame West Africa is known for.

    In the last five years that the reality show has existed, talents have been produced and nurtured.   • 53 -year-old, others storm BBA season 8 auditions

    A 53-year-old woman, Olayemi Olaniyan, was among thousands of Nigerians that stormed the Protea Hotel Lagos, venue of the Big Brothers Africa (BBA) 4-day open event for the shortlisted candidates in Nigeria.

    Olaniyan, a multilateral marketer, said if there are youths in the BBA House there is nothing preventing mamas and papas to also be in the show.

    The business administration graduate of The Polytechnic Ibadan assured she has everything it takes to make it big on the show.

    She said: “If you are youthful at heart, you can deal with the youths.”

    The last housemate in the popular show goes home with $ 300,000.

    FOLLOWING weeks of touring the country in search of raw talents, the Nigerian Idol team returned to Lagos for the grand finale of Season 3 auditions which held at Dream Studios, Bamako Estate, Omole.

    From Friday, November 9 to Saturday, November 10, 2012, aspiring youths in their thousands turned out to take a shot at being the next Nigerian Idol. Lead sponsor Etisalat stepped it up with the concerts by adding more exciting, young and vibrant acts in the industry like Chuddy K, May D and Olamide.

    “It has been a mind-blowing experience for the Idol team over the last one month, as we have seen and heard dynamic voices from the five states where auditions took place. There is a reason why Nigerian Idol is called the real deal and this is why Nigerian youths look forward to the opportunity to be part of the show every year. Nigerians haven’t seen anything yet from the last two seasons, as a greater than Mercy is going to be revealed come December when the show will begin to air,” said Tiwalola Medubi, the Project Manger.

    Hosted by On-Air Personality; Ill Rymz, the judges for this season are; African-American dancer, singer and former Michael Jackson’s personal choreographer; Jeffrey Daniels, veteran singer, Yinka Davies and Afro-beat legend, Femi Kuti. Prizes up for grabs this season are N7.5 million cash, a recording contract worth N7.5million and an SUV.
