    Court jails businessman for assault

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 57-year-old businessman, Haruna Isah, to three months imprisonment for causing grievous hurt.

    Isah of Utako village, Abuja, was convicted on a charge of causing grievous hurt. He pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

    The Judge, Sadiq Abubakar, however, gave the convict an option of fine of N10, 000, and said that it was intended to serve as a deterrent to others.

    The prosecuting counsel, Auhioboh Florence, had told the court that the convict used his goods to block Bamigbade Nurudeen at Utako Market on December 12.

    She said that when Nurudeen asked him to remove the goods, the convict refused and in the process, violently attacked Nurudeen with a broken chair.

    According to the prosecutor, Isah used the chair to inflict serious injury on Nurudeen’s right eye and ran away.

    She said that Nurudeen reported the incident at Utako Police Station on the same day, adding that the complainant also lost N35, 000 during the attack on him.

    “So far the complainant has spent N15, 000 on his treatment,’’ she said.

    The prosecutor said that the Isah committed the offence at about 4.30 p.m.

    She told the court that during police investigation, the convict confessed to committing the crime, and said that the offence violated Section 196 of the Penal Code.

    Labourer imprisoned for stealing window slides

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a Labourer, Suleiman Abdullah, to eight months imprisonment for stealing glass window slides.

    The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Abdullah, 23, after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of theft.

    The judge, however, gave the convict N10, 000 option of fine.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Auhioboh Florence, told the court that on Aug. 22, one Mohammed Sheffiu of No. 2 Works and Housing Estate, Gwarinpa, Abuja, reported the incident at the Gwarinpa Police Station.

    Florence said that Sheffiu reported the matter for proper investigation, which led to the arrest of the convict.

    According to Florence, the convict committed the offences on the same date at about 12 a.m. at Gwarinpa.

    The prosecutor said that the convict criminally trespassed into the complainant’s house and stole four glass window slides valued at N5, 500.

    Florence told the court that the items belong to one Japhet Sani.

    She said that during police investigation and interrogation, the convict confessed to the crime.

    The offences contravened Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

    Court jails carpenter 12 months for criminal trespass

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 22-year-old Carpenter, Dogara Stanley, to 12 months imprisonment for stealing equipment worth N360,000.

    Stanley, who resides at Karasana village, had pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of joint act, criminal trespass and theft.

    The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, in his judgment, declined the convict an option of fine, and held that he was not a first time offender.

    Sadiq, therefore, sentenced the convict to four months on each of the count, and said that the punishment would have been more severe if he had not pleaded guilty to the offence.

    He admonished the convict to desist from crime in the future and become a better citizen.

    Sadiq also ordered the convict to pay N360,000 as restitution to the complainant

    The prosecutor, Auhioboh Florence, had told the court that one Awosanya Olumayemi of Lokogoma, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwagwa Police Station on Aug. 8.

    Florence told the court that the convict and two others now at large dishonestly trespassed into the complainant’s block industry located at Karasana site and stole his working equipment.

    She said that the convict stole the complainant’s control box worth N200, 000, electrical cable valued N9,000, mixed coil worth N150,000.

    Florence said that during police investigation, all effort made to recover the stolen items proved abortive even though the convict had admitted committing the offence.

    She said that the offences contravened sections 79, 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.

    Scavenger to receive six lashes for stealing plate

    A Karmo Grade 1Area Court, Abuja, on Friday ordered that a scavenger, Nafiu Lawal, be given six strokes of the cane for stealing plate.

    The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, gave the order after the convict pleaded guilty on a two-count charge levelled against him.

    Sadiq said that the punishment would have been severe if he had not pleaded guilty and saved the court the pains of protracted prosecution.

    The prosecuting counsel, Auhioboh Florence, had told the court that one Tina Bawa of 1st Avenue Gwarinpa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarinpa Police Station on Aug. 7

    The prosecutor said that the convict committed the offence on the same date at about 6.25 a.m. at Gwarinpa.

    The prosecutor said that the convict criminally trespassed into the complainant’s shop and stole a plate valued at N5, 000, cooking pot valued at N7, 000 and baby cord worth N15, 000.

    During police investigation and interrogation, the convict admitted committing the offence, the prosecutor said; while the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.

    Following the plea of the convict, the prosecutor prayed the court to try him summarily, under Section 347 of the Administration of Criminal Justices Act, 2015.

    Police arraign scavenger over attempted theft, trespass

    A 28-year-old scavenger, Abubakar Salisu, was on Wednesday arraigned at a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged criminal trespass and attempted theft.

    Salisu, who reside in Ereke Junction, Karmo, Abuja, was arraigned on charges of criminal trespass, mischief and attempt to commit theft.

    He was, however, released on bail by the court in the sum of N20, 000, with a surety in like sum, after he denied committing the offences.

    In the ruling, the judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, ordered that the surety should produce his current utility bills and reasonable means of identification.

    Sadiq also directed that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

    The prosecuting counsel, Mrs Auhioboh Florence, had informed the court that on July 3, one Nev Othaniel of Karmo, reported the matter at Karmo Police Station.

    Florence said that the defendant, at about 1 a.m. on July 3, criminally and dishonestly broke into the complainant’s house with intention to commit an offence of theft.

    She told the court that while the defendant was in the process of stealing, he was caught by the complainant and was taken to the police station for proper investigation.

    Florence said that during police investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of himself.

    She told the court that the offences contravened Sections 327, 349 and 95 of the Penal Code.

    The judge adjourned the case to Aug. 9.

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced two labourers, Paul David and Endurance Esene, to three months imprisonment each for stealing a cell phone.

    David, 23, and Esene, 25, of Jabi Park, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of joint act and theft levelled against them.

    The judge, Mr Abubakar sadiq, however, gave the convicts N10, 000 option of fine each, and warned them to be of good behavior and desist from committing crimes after serving out their sentences.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Auhioboh Florence, informed the court that on April 4, one Mr Isaac Obuo of the same address reported the case at Gwarinpa Police Station.

    Florence said that the convicts on April 21, at about 5.a.m. formed criminal intention and stole one techno phone, valued at N25,000 and N10,000 cash, belonging to the complainant.

    She said when the convicts were caught; they denied committing the offences, until the complainant raised an alarm.

    The prosecutor said that the convicts were arrested and they confessed to the crime.

    The prosecutor said that during police investigations, all effort to recover the stolen items proved abortive.

    Florence who said that the items were yet to be recovered, said that the offences contravened Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code

     

  • Labourer bags three months imprisonment for theft

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 35-year-old labourer, Shaibu Abas, to three months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone worth N64, 000.

    Abas, a resident of Utako area, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to two- count charge of joint act and stealing levelled against him.

    The judge, Mr Abubakar sadiq, however, gave the convict N15,000 option of fine and warned him to be of good behaviour and desist from committing crimes after serving out his punishment.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Auhioboh Florence, had informed the court that on March 16, one Victor Ubasi of No. 5 Adeyinki Adeoti Crescent, Wuse 2 Abuja, reported the case at Utako Police Station.

    Florence said that the complainant parked his car opposite a beer parlour at Wuse 2, whiles the convict and his accomplices, now at large, forcefully opened the car and removed the item.

    She said the accused and his gang stole a Tecno cell phone, valued at N64, 000 and ran away.

    The prosecutor said that the convict was arrested and he confessed to have sold the cell phone at N18, 000, to one Destiny at Wuse market.

    Florence said that the item was yet to be recovered and the offences contravened Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code

     

  • Police arraign five men for diesel theft

    Five men were on Tuesday arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing 1,910 litres of diesel.

    The defendants were- Andrew Samaily, a cleaner; Alpha Misa, Sunday yunana, and Ayuba Matthew, all of Unity Security Wuse 2, Abuja, and Amos Sadi, a labourer of no fixed address.

    The defendants, who were arraigned on a two-count charge of joint act and theft by servant, all denied committing the offences.

    The judge, Mr. Abubakar sadiq, granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with a surety each in like sum.

    He adjourned the matter till April 27 for hearing.

    The prosecuting counsel, Mrs Auhioboh Florence, had informed the court that on March 17, Ilorin Toyin, of Suit B7, Rukayya Plaza, Jabi, Abuja, reported the matter at Gwarinpa Police Station.

    Florence said that the defendants were posted to House No. 41, Patrick Yakowa St., Katampe Extention, Gwarinpa, Abuja.
    She said that the defendants on March 16, at about 9. 30 p.m. criminally conspired and stole the complainant’s 1,910 litres of diesel, valued at N458, 400 from a tank.

    Florence said that during police investigation, 50 litres of diesel was recovered and it was also discovered that they had previously stolen 1,860 litres from the same tank.

    The prosecuting counsel said the offences contravened Sections 79 and 289 of the Penal Code.
