Since the outset of his illness, according to a report, Bamiji who is the national coordinator, coalition of pro-democracy groups for A Better Nigeria has been undergoing a rigorous treatment regimen designed to aid in his recovery.

Bamiji’s physician, Dr. Julius Olalare, spoke about the challenges faced by the activist, emphasising the importance of psychological support in addition to medical treatment.

According to medical report issued on December 10, 2024 by Dr  Olalere, Comrade Bamiji, though gradually recovering, he still needs not only physiotherapist assistance but also psychological and financial support for him to procure his medications.

Bamiji has, however, been referred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan for further treatment.

Recall that Awa Bamiji was a frontline advocate for the actualisation of the Bashorun MKO Abiola mandate during the June 12, 1993, struggle against the General Sani Abacha military junta.

Recently, there have been calls from pro- democracy groups for his nomination and appointment by President Bola Tinubu led administration to serve as compensation for  his selfless struggle spanning over 30 years.
