    ‘Employee’s wellbeing strategic investment’

AXA Mansard Health has called on organisations to treat employee wellbeing as a strategic investment that drives productivity and business growth, rather than a financial burden.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tope Adeniyi, made the call during a breakfast meeting with senior human resources (HR) and business leaders in Lagos, where discussions centred on the escalating cost of healthcare and its impact on workforce wellbeing.

Adeniyi noted that while rising operational costs remain a reality for many organisations, prioritising employee wellness yields measurable returns in performance and cost management.

‎“Every business leader knows the pressure of cost containment,” he said. “But we have learned, from more than a decade of serving thousands of employees across Nigeria’s most demanding sectors, that companies which treat wellbeing as a performance driver not a cost centre are the ones that thrive.”

‎He added that data from AXA Mansard Health’s portfolio show a clear link between proactive investment in employee wellbeing and reduced claims costs per employee. “Cutting health or wellness budgets to ‘save’ money often backfires,” he said. “When employees are stressed or unwell, they may show up physically but be mentally and emotionally absent.”

‎Adeniyi emphasised that supporting staff health should be viewed as sound business strategy, not corporate social responsibility.

“Taking care of our employees is not a sentimental choice it’s good business,” he affirmed.

‎Other participants at the session, comprising HR heads and business executives, discussed the challenges of balancing rising healthcare expenses with meaningful employee support. They also stressed the importance of embedding wellbeing into leadership culture, noting that executives who model healthy practices foster loyalty and enhance productivity

‎AXA Mansard Health showcased its wellness platform, which provides employees access to over 2,000 hospitals nationwide, telemedicine consultations, health education programmes, and lifestyle management tools. By focusing on preventive care and real-time health management, the insurer said it helps organisations reduce costs while improving health outcomes.

‎Reaffirming its commitment to holistic employee wellbeing, the company pledged continued partnership with employers to address the dual challenge of rising healthcare costs and workforce performance.

Adeniyi concluded that AXA Mansard Health remains dedicated to equipping businesses with data-driven insights and practical tools to sustain a healthy, productive workforce.

    Company strengthens ties with providers

We are committed to quality healthcare for our millions of customers across Nigeria, the Chief Executive Officer of AXA Mansard Health, Mr Tope Adeniyi said.

He spoke during the company’s South-West Providers’ Forum in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

AXA Mansard Health, Nigeria’s leading health insurance provider, reaffirmed its dedication to placing customers at the heart of its operations while strengthening partnerships with healthcare providers to deliver accessible, affordable, and top-quality healthcare nationwide.

At the forum, Adeniyi emphasized that the engagement was part of the company’s broader strategy to collaborate with its partners, hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and other service providers, to ensure customers enjoy seamless and superior healthcare services.

“For us at AXA Mansard Health, it’s about the customer first. It’s not just a core value, it’s the mantra that guides everything we do, from innovation to process improvement, product development, and even our CSR initiatives,” Adeniyi said.

“We are a company built on protecting what matters most to our customers. But in all of this, we recognize that it is our providers who complete the value chain. They are how our customers experience us. This forum allows us to consolidate our partnership so our customers always get the best.”

He  noted that AXA Mansard Health’s strategic focus remains rooted in its dual commitment: customers first, followed by providers.

“We believe that by maintaining this model, AXA Mansard Health will continue to be the brand to beat in Nigeria. Our goal is to reach every corner of the country and provide premium healthcare services to all Nigerians, because they deserve it.”

The Providers’ Forum, which has also been held in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Sokoto, Maiduguri, and Abuja over the past four months, reinforces AXA Mansard Health’s resolve to bridge the healthcare gap by ensuring that quality healthcare is not limited to major cities.

These engagements promote collaboration, enable the exchange of best practices, and address region-specific healthcare challenges.

Nigeria currently spends about 4.08% of its GDP on healthcare and has a doctor-to-patient ratio of approximately 1 to 10,000, far below the WHO-recommended 1 to 600.

In rural areas, access remains limited and healthcare costs are disproportionately high, making initiatives like AXA’s Providers Forum critical in improving nationwide healthcare delivery.

Through these forums, AXA Mansard Health seeks to enhance its products and services while improving the overall healthcare experience for customers.

The company has announced plans to host similar forums in the South-East in the coming months, further demonstrating its commitment to making quality healthcare accessible across the country.

“As we move deeper into 2025, the insights and feedback gathered from these forums will be vital in shaping our strategies to enhance customer experience and deliver on our promise of quality healthcare for all Nigerians,” Adeniyi concluded.

AXA Mansard Health takes medical outreach to Lagos community

Hundreds of Abule Oja Community residents in Lagos State have benefited from the ongoing medical Outreach funded by AXA Mansard Health Limited.

The Outreach, according to Tope Adeniyi, CEO of AXA Mansard Health Limited, is another way the company demonstrates its commitment to total wellness for everyone.

Adeniyi said that AXA Mansard Health is committed to universal health coverage, and while it is working with national institutions to midwife this in Nigeria, it is also putting its resources behind ongoing community development initiatives that combine preventative health education with medical tests and distribution of mosquitoes nets.

“For us at AXA Mansard Health, universal health coverage is an important topic. We are convinced that healthcare should be accessible, available and affordable. And it should be accessible to everyone notwithstanding their socio-economic, geographic and educational status”.

“So this medical Outreach is another in the series of programmes we have listed to improve community health this year.

“You will recall that early in the year, we donated medical equipment to general hospitals in remote areas across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. We are not relenting. We are poised to do more. It is our wish that wellness is ubiquitous anywhere you turn in Nigeria. And we are embarking on this journey one community at a time.

“What should also interest you in the community health outreach is that our employee volunteers majorly drive it. Our employees across ranks and sectors were not just the brains behind this programme; they came out and dedicated their time.

They went into the community to make this programme a success.

That tells you that this is not just a CSR programme; it is a commitment that permeates our system and is at the heart of our employees”, Adeniyi said.

Adebola Surakat, Chief Marketing Officer of AXA Mansard, said the initiative is delivered under the AXA Hearts in Action programme.

“AXA Hearts in Action is our global employee volunteering programme. It is at the core of our purpose of acting for human progress.

It is a programme that ensures that our employees are not just coming to work to create solutions for progress every day, but they come to work also to give back their time to causes that advance a better and healthier society”.

Reacting to the initiative, Alhaji Otunbade Nurudeen, the Abule Oja Community Development Association Chairman, thanked AXA Mansard for considering the community for such a laudable initiative.

“We’re delighted today to have AXA Mansard conduct this Outreach here. We are grateful for the investment in time, the mosquito nets, the health talk and the screening. These are significant gestures that will help our community stay healthy, especially in this current economic situation”, he said.

100 Chess in slums children get underwriter’s free health insurance

AXA Mansard Health has offered free health insurance to 100 children from the Chess in Slum community.

According to the underwriter, the gesture is to demonstrate its belief that quality healthcare should be accessible, available and affordable to everyone, notwithstanding socioeconomic class, gender or age.

The free health insurance, according to the company, is in line with its drive for inclusive protection; one of its sustainability pillars.

“Inclusive protection is one of the ways we ensure that we bring vulnerable members of the public into the protection net,’’ said the Chief Marketing Officer, AXA Mansard, Adebola Surakat.

Said that the company believes that a sustainable world is an insurable world, hence all well-meaning individuals, social, and corporate citizens must commit to continuing to bridge the societal gaps.

Surakat said that for us at AXA Mansard, “we are happy to be undertaking this initiative with Chess in Slums. We are convinced that their endeavour with children in vulnerable communities is commendable. So, this is our way of showing them support. We hope this gesture will serve as an elixir for them to do more.”

Surakat noted that AXA will continue to push the boundaries of making society a better place.

She explained that it is when everyone commits to contributing their quota that we can have a truly sustainable world.

She said the quest for a sustainable world is the core of AXA’s purpose to act for human progress by protecting what matters.

“So as the children benefit from good and quality healthcare and with the impact from Chess in Slums, they will grow to become worthy ambassadors that will drive our collective progress,” she said.

“It is expected that this health cover will provide the children with necessary curative treatments, regular check-ups, and preventive health care without financial strain on their parents and community.

“At Chess in Slums, we take a holistic approach to child and community development, recognizing that a child’s well-being is deeply interconnected with their environment, health, and opportunities for growth.

This is because we understand that if we must inspire genuine transformation, we must also address the multiple layers of complexities influencing their lives, from education to family support, healthcare, and education.

Our partnership with AXA Mansard Health is crucial in removing the barriers to health and ensuring that children in vulnerable communities have access to essential healthcare.

By doing this, we are not just empowering these children—we are creating a foundation for sustainable, long-term development for both the families and the community” said Emmanuel Abiodun Oke, the Chief Operating Officer of Chess in Slums Africa.

The initiative aligns with our ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility and community support. In addition to this donation, the company continues to engage in various charitable activities and partnerships that promote health, education, and community development.
