    Axxela marks nine million man hours of no LTI

    Axxela Limited has achieved a major safety milestone, recording nine million man-hours with zero Lost Time Injury (LTI) across its operations, surpassing its previous records of seven million in 2023 and eight million in 2024.

    This was contained in a statement made available to the press by the firm.

    According to the company, the landmark achievement showcases its steady progress and strong commitment to global best practices in workplace safety and operational integrity.

    Axxela said: “It reflects our deliberate implementation of robust safety systems and protocols, ensuring consistent productivity without disruptions from workplace incidents.

    Axxela’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Ononiwu, stated that: “Recording nine million hours without a lost-time injury is a powerful reflection of the deeply embedded safety culture at Axxela. It speaks to our team’s shared commitment to operational excellence, disciplined adherence to safety protocols, and collective accountability. This achievement further reinforces that safety is not just a policy, it’s a core value that shapes how we carry out operations and day-to-day activities.”

    Head of Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability, John Okoro, noted that this is a reminder that safety is everyone’s responsibility.

     “Our zero-tolerance approach to non-compliance protects lives, preserves operations, and reflects our responsibility to all stakeholders. This accomplishment inspires us to not relent and to continue to raise the standard,” Okoro said.

    The company has also continued to strengthen its sustainability credentials, most recently retaining its Gold Medal in the 2025 EcoVadis Sustainability Rating.

  • $30m Greater Lagos IV pipeline begins operation

    Indigenous gas & power portfolio company Axxela Limited has put into operation its Greater Lagos IV (GLIV) gas pipeline network and the newly renovated Elegbata Sports Complex.

    Greater Lagos IV (GLIV) is Axxela’s gas pipeline network, developed by its Gaslink Nigeria Limited subsidiary in partnership with the Nigerian Gas Marketing Company (NGMC).

    Spanning from Ijora through Lagos Island’s Marina axis, the multi-million dollar pipeline will supply gas to commercial and industrial off-takers along its route, and already has First Power and Island Power among its customers.

    The firm’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Rasheed Olaoluwa, said: “This occasion demonstrates our continued contribution to the growth of Lagos State’s burgeoning socio-economic landscape, and also reinforces Axxela’s commitment as trailblazers in the distribution of natural gas to industries, and we are immensely proud of this pioneering effort. There remains a considerable demand for power generation, and this pipeline extension project will revitalise industrial development across the metropolis.

    “We are also delighted to commission the sports complex, affirming our promise and always-on engagement of host communities in our areas of operation.”

    The Lagos Sports Commission Chairman, Dr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh, representing the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, applauded Axxela for the initiative and its role in boosting economic development in the state.

    He said: “I would like to thank Axxela for developing this sports facility, which indicates its firm commitment to the welfare of its host communities.     Axxela Limited, a gas and power portfolio company, has achieved a triple – implementation, evaluation and certification of Integrated Management Systems: ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018.

    The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) said Axxela is the first  company  in the oil and gas space to hold all three certifications simultaneously, underscoring its longstanding commitment to Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality (EHSQ) management.

    An Integrated Management System (IMS) collates all of an organisation’s systems and processes into one holistic framework, enabling it function as a single unit with streamlined objectives.

    Speaking on the issue, Axxela Chief Executive Officer, Bolaji Osunsanya, said: “We constantly strive to apply global best practices across all facets of our enterprise to maintain a high standard of quality, occupational health and protection of the environment. My commendations go out to the Axxela team for continually pushing the envelope, and as we advance economic empowerment and industrialisation across the region, these integrated certifications are testament to our collective efficacy as an organisation.”

    Axxela’s EHSQ Manager, Uche Okpala, also said: “We actively engage SON, the frontline certification body and Nigerian representative of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), to provide objective assessments of our management systems. Since 2009, our Quality Management System was certified in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008. This heralded subsequent efforts to consolidate this achievement with certifications in Environmental Management System (ISO 14001:2004) and Occupational Health & Safety (ISO 45001:2018). In keeping with the maintenance requirements of these standards, we have always maintained our certifications to the latest revisions, culminating in our most recent implementation, transition and certification across the three Integrated Management Systems.”
