AYCF commends FG, NNPC for reviving Port Harcourt Refinery

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to the federal government of Nigeria and the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) under the exemplary leadership of Mele Kyari on the operational status of the Port Harcourt Refinery.

AYCF in a statement by its President General Yerima Shettima said, the remarkable achievement marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s oil industry and heralds a new era of growth, sustainability, and hope for millions of citizens across the nation.

“The recent commencement of crude oil processing at the Port Harcourt Refinery, with an impressive installed production capacity of 60,000 barrels per day, represents a significant milestone in our collective journey towards self-sufficiency in petroleum products.

“The refinery’s capacity to load 200 trucks daily with locally refined products is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the Federal Government and the NNPC in revitalizing critical national infrastructure that has long been dormant”.

He noted that for years, the Port Harcourt Refinery has stood as a symbol of Nigeria’s potential in the oil sector, yet it has faced numerous challenges that impeded its operational efficiency, adding that the revival of the refinery is not merely an operational success; it is a beacon of hope that demonstrates what can be achieved when vision, determination, and strategic planning converge.

The AYCF said it recognized the tireless efforts of the Federal Government and the NNPC in overcoming the obstacles that have hindered the refinery’s functionality, and we commend their unwavering resolve in bringing this vital asset back to life.

“The implications of this development extend far beyond the immediate benefits of increased local production. With the refinery now operational, Nigeria is poised to reduce its reliance on imported petroleum products, a move that will enhance our economic sovereignty and contribute to the stabilization of fuel prices across the nation.

“This is particularly crucial in light of the global fluctuations in oil prices and the economic challenges that many Nigerians have faced in recent years. Furthermore, the revival of the Port Harcourt Refinery is expected to create numerous job opportunities for our youth, thereby addressing the pressing issue of unemployment that has plagued our nation”.

The AYC further believed that empowering our youth through job creation is essential for fostering a sense of purpose and belonging in society. The operationalization of the refinery not only promises immediate employment opportunities but also paves the way for the development of a skilled workforce that can contribute to the growth of other sectors in the economy.

Additionally, the AYCF acknowledged the environmental significance of reviving the Port Harcourt Refinery. With modernized operations and adherence to best practices in environmental management, the refinery has the potential to minimize the ecological impact associated with petroleum refining. This aligns with global efforts to promote sustainable development and responsible resource management, which are vital for preserving our planet for future generations.

In light of these developments, the AYCF called upon all stakeholders in the Nigerian oil and gas sector to rally behind this initiative. It is imperative that we foster a collaborative approach that encourages innovation, investment, and transparency within the industry. We urge the Federal Government and the NNPC to continue engaging with local communities and stakeholders to ensure that the benefits of the refinery’s revival are felt across all strata of society.

“In conclusion, the AYCF once again commends the Federal Government and the NNPC under the leadership of Mele Kyari for their remarkable efforts in reviving the Port Harcourt Refinery. We look forward to witnessing the positive impact this development will have on our economy, our youth, and the future of our great nation”.

AYCF defends Kaduna govt, dismisses N36b loan claim by Sahara Reporters

The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has issued a firm statement defending the Kaduna state government against what it described as misleading claims by Sahara Reporters.

The report, which alleged that the state borrowed N36 billion in just six months, was rejected by the AYCF as not only inaccurate but also a violation of journalistic standards.

In its official response, the AYCF criticized the report as a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and create division among the people of Kaduna state.

The forum expressed unwavering support for the Kaduna State Government, which it said has clearly explained that it is responsibly managing debts inherited from the previous administration.

It further noted that the debts have been worsened by the sharp devaluation of the Naira and include long-term commitments, such as critical projects funded by the World Bank under programs like AGILE, SURWASH, and ACReSAL.

The AYCF said: “These initiatives were set in motion long before the current administration, led by Governor Uba Sani.”

The forum also raised concerns about the intentions behind the misleading report, hinting at a possible connection to the previous administration under Nasir El-Rufai, which has been criticized for unaccounted debts.

It claimed that El-Rufai’s alleged indictment by a legitimate panel, might be fueling a disinformation campaign aimed at undermining the current government.

“The current administration is working tirelessly to address the financial challenges left by its predecessor, not to create new burdens.

“We find it unacceptable that a former governor, under investigation and indictment, would resort to such tactics to undermine the stability of Kaduna State”‘,  said Shettima, President General for AYCF.

The AYCF urged the swift legal proceedings against former Governor El-Rufai to promote accountability and transparency concerning the state’s debt.

The forum stressed that the public has a right to clear information about the government’s financial situation and warned that any efforts to misrepresent the facts would not be tolerated.

“Let us not forget that accountability is the foundation of good governance,” continued Shettima.

“We encourage the public to stay informed and engaged, as the truth about our state’s finances must come to light. Together, we will demand justice and work towards a prosperous future for Kaduna state.”

The AYCF reaffirmed its commitment to promoting good governance and fiscal responsibility in Kaduna State, urging citizens to stay alert and guard against misinformation.

Arewa groups applaud Ajayi’s appointment as DG DSS

Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) and the Northern Awareness Network (NAN) have hailed the appointment of Adeola Ajayi by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the new Director General (DG) of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The groups in their separate statements issued by Yerima Shettima, the President General of the AYCF, and Salihu Suleiman Chairman of NAN, articulated enthusiastic endorsement of Ajayi’s ascension to the pivotal role, emphasising the promise of a refreshed approach to national security and stability under his leadership.

Their endorsement according to Shettima and Suleiman is rooted in Ajayi’s impressive track record and tangible achievements in various states, including Kogi, Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, and Plateau, stressing that his tenure in those areas has been characterized by notable successes in mitigating insecurity and restoring public safety.

They added that Ajayi’s swift response to the security challenges in Bauchi and Plateau resulted in a significant decline in violent incidents, allowing for an atmosphere of safety that the populace has since enjoyed.

The groups whose statements are corroborative further said Ajayi’s intervention in Kogi led to the neutralization of the insurgent group Ansaru, a feat that speaks volumes about his capability and commitment to safeguarding the nation.

In the current climate, where security challenges such as terrorism, banditry, and community unrest continue to plague Nigeria, the group lauds Ajayi’s appointment as a timely and strategic move by President Bola Tinubu.

The groups envisioned that Ajayi’s leadership style would prioritize a more covert and intelligent approach to intelligence gathering and operational deployment within the DSS.

“This aligns with the AYCF’s, NAN call for an emphasis on discretion and strategic silence regarding sensitive security matters, a method they believe could significantly enhance the overall effectiveness of the agency.

Expressing their optimism, the AYCF and NAN underscore the necessity for the collective support of all stakeholders, including the general public, in facilitating Ajayi’s mandate. They advocated for patience, cooperation, and understanding from citizens as they navigated the complex terrain of national security. This collaborative spirit, they argue, is essential in creating a conducive environment for him to implement his vision for a secure Nigeria.

They further acknowledged the distinct challenges faced by the North, which has been disproportionately affected by insecurity in recent years, adding that as custodians of the interests of Northern youth, they are particularly hopeful that Ajayi’s deep understanding of these issues, along with his unprecedented antecedents, will enable him to restore peace and order across the region.

They believed that with the right implementation of strategies, reinforced by community engagement and trust, it is possible to turn the tide against the current security threats.

They also recognized that the path to security is fraught with challenges but believe that with exemplary leadership grounded in integrity, professionalism, and community outreach, the DSS can significantly improve the security landscape of Nigeria.

AYCF’s and NAN’s enthusiastic reception of Ajayi as the new DG of the DSS serves as a testament to the collective aspiration for security and peace within Nigeria, particularly in the North.

“The coming months will be critical in evaluating the impact of his leadership on national security dynamics, but the AYCF stands ready to support the new DG in his efforts to restore order and confidence in the state security apparatus.

Ultimately, the groups encouraged all Nigerians to rally behind him, fostering a unified front against insecurity and its disturbing implications for the nation’s future.

“Today, foodstuffs are no longer within the reach of an ordinary Nigerian, and it is now clear that the increase in the minimum wage to N70,000 is nothing but deceit because with the reality on the ground, it can not meet the needs of one person talk more of a family and now the said money can barely cover for their transportation to the workplaces in a month.

“For me, the Federal government should have a rethink on the numerous challenges, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must allow Nigerians to breathe because with the situation of things now, angry and hungry Nigerians are further being pushed to the wall and the reaction of a hungry and angry person may be unimaginable.”

Shettima therefore called on the government whose primary responsibility is the welfare and wellbeing of her citizens to live up to their responsibilities and let Nigerians feel the positive impact of the renewed agenda by making life and living better for Nigerians.

“The sudden increase in the price of petrol has already created a multiplying effect on prices of not only foodstuffs but in several other areas such as transportation among others.”

He therefore urged the federal government to urgently do the needful to avoid revolt from Nigerians and should as a matter of urgency give the wellbeing and welfare of Nigerians a priority.
