  • Wizkid’s ‘Fever’ Video sets Twitter on ‘fire’

Nigerians on Twitter have expressed divergent reactions to Tiwa Savage’s feature in the video for Ayodeji Balogun aka Wizkid’s Fever’.

Our reporter gathered that Wizkid released the much anticipated visuals for the hit track, to rave reviews, on Wednesday and it has gathered over 70, 000 views.

However, Tiwa Savage’s feature has caused frenzy on Twitter, with Nigerians expressing their opinions on the implications of the intimate scenes both singers displayed in the video.

Our reporter reports that the song ‘Fever’, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, her estranged husband Tunji Balogun aka Teebillz and Mavin record label boss Don Jazzy are the top five trending topics on Nigerians Twitter.

Seeing that Wizkid and Tiwa Savage have been battling long-running relationship rumours which they have both denied, Nigerians on Twitter are debating the current status of their relationship.

@Emmanuel tweeted, “Is Wizkid dating Tiwa? This new video has a lot to say.”

@Newscantell said, “Can’t tell if Wizkid and Tiwa are dating or not but let’s be honest, this ‘fever’ video is a perfect PR.

“Will Wizkid and Tiwa put up a romance if not to get us all talking? It’s a win on both sides. Tiwa made a nice camera appearance and the video is thrilling.”

@MrOludee wrote, “Is Wizkid really dating Tiwa or this is just superstory?”

@Quintope tweeted, “Whether they are dating or not. Wizkid used Tiwa in that video for a reason and it is working.”

@Missyayom said, “There is nothing that will make me believe Wizkid and Tiwa are dating. These two are just acting. They are giving us what we want.”

However, some other Nigerians are curious about the effects of the video to Tiwa Savage’s enstranged husband, Teebillz considering that he debunked the dating rumour between Wizkid and Tiwa Savage in September.

@Chidubem_o said, “Wizkid drops ‘fever’ video with Tiwa and now heavy rain has started falling this morning. God is helping Teebillz she’d his tears.”

@Dwinthestoic wrote, “Lmaooo Wizkid’s ‘fever’ video makes me happy because they both didn’t say anything after TeeBillz wrote his rant.

“They just shot a sexy video so that TeeBillz can have a seizure.”

@Ariwa_michael tweeted, “Teebillz needs to stop being in denial and move on with his life. Tiwa is definitely in some sort of relationship with Wizkid.”

@Adugbadavid said, “Tiwa should be allowed to move on in peace. Teebillz had his shot and he blew it.”

Our reporter accumulated  that the almost-four minute’s long video was directed ace music video director, Meji Alabi.

  • FG to link farmers, processors to ready export market for cassava chips

FG to link farmers, processors to ready export market for cassava chips

The Federal Government says it will assist cassava farmers and processors to create linkage markets to guarantee export and sale of cassava chips at the international market.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, said this at an Agribusiness Supplier Development Programme (ASDP) meeting organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ibadan on Tuesday.

Represented by Mr Auwal Maidabino, the Director, Planning and Policy Coordination in the ministry, Ogbeh said the linkage when actualised, would secure and inject more foreign exchange into the country.

The minister, who said that in 2012 the country secured and supplied 2.2 million tonnes of cassava chips to China, which earned it over 534 million dollars, expressed regret that the business was not sustained.

Ogbeh said the government would continue to provide improved yielding cassava stems, disease resistant varieties, access to finance and markets to improve the country’s current market share.

He appealed to cassava farmers to improve cassava chips production and supply chain system to meet demands from other countries.

“In order to facilitate the attainment of this objective, we have put institutional framework in place to promote agribusiness and investments.

“We are working with donour agencies, financial institutions, and the organised Private Sector to build an agribusiness economy for food security, job creation and export for inclusive growth.

“In view of the potential that abound for export trade in cassava chips, I urge you to take advantage of this to focus on cassava chips production, standardisation and training to meet with market export requirement,’’ he said.

Dr Nelson Abila, an Agribusiness Specialist with the UNDP, said the meeting was aimed at bringing together stakeholders in the cassava value chain with a view to increasing productivity, expand profit gap and stimulate local economy along the chain.

According to him, the meeting is also to encourage and promote more participation in the cassava value chain.

Abila expressed concern over the dwindling market for the cassava produce at the international level.

“ASDP is an initiative of the UNDP to make farming a business, improving the supply of agricultural products by farmers, contribute to the development of the nations’ economy,’’ he explained.

Mr Tony Egba, a guest lecturer, said that Nigeria was the highest producer and local consumers of cassava produce across the world.

In a lecture entitled: “The How of Cassava Chips Processing’’, Egba said that the best drying method for cassava was through sunlight.

He advised farmers and processors to imbibe the right way for the drying and storage of the produce.

Egba noted that low or high moisture content in cassava would introduce moles in them which would cause its rejection at the international market.

The Country Manager of the Africa Commodities Exchange (AFEX), Mr Ayodeji Balogun, stressed the need for the provision of storage facilities to reduce post-harvest losses and close the glut gap in cassava value chain.

Some of the farmers called on the government to provide enabling environment and policies that would encourage farmers in the country.

… Artiste grabs two laurels at MTV EMAs, one at AFRIMA

They are top of the rang trophies from the two continental award ceremonies that took place Sunday night in Rotterdam, Netherlands and Lagos, Nigeria, leaving rave-of-the-moment pop star, Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid shoulder-high with ‘Best African Act’ and ‘Worldwide Act’ at the MTV Europe Music Awards, EMA, and ‘Artiste of the Year’ at the All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, respectively.

In Rotterdam, the Nigerian act was topped only by Justin Bieber, who took home three trophies: Best Song, Best Fans and Best Canadian Act. He however matched Lady Gaga who won trophies for Best Female and Best Look.

The encomium was quite resounding for Wizkid at the Eko Hotel, Lagos, venue of AFRIMA, where the trophy was received on his behalf by Beat FM’s OAP, Olisa Adibua.

This feat is coming exactly 11 days after the Star Boy, as he is also called, clinched the ‘Best International Act Africa’ laurel at the ‘Music of Black Origin’ (MOBO) Awards, where he beat Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Olamide and seven other nominees.

It is indeed a year of harvest for the artiste who, only two weeks ago was celebrated as the biggest winner at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) in Johannesburg, grabbing three awards – Best Male, Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration Africa.

This year’s EMA win for Wizkid followed the success of Tanzanian artiste, Diamond Platnumz who was the Worldwide Act winner last year.

Wizkid was one of six artists from around the globe who were named as Worldwide Act winners; his fellow honourees were Shawn Mendes (Canada), Zara Larsson (Sweden), Maluma (Columbia), GOT7 (Korea) and Troye Sivan (Australia).

The Nigerian multiplatinum R&B stunner made his EMA stage debut with the first global performance of his smash single ‘Starboy’. The performance began in a star-filled dome, which opened to reveal the singer.

Host Bebe Rexha slayed her hosting duties while bringing the live debut of her new single I’ve Got U to the EMAs stage. Earlier in the show, she teamed with friend and the world’s no. 1 DJ Martin Garrix for a stirring duet of In The Name of Love with a full string orchestra.

Best Push winners DNCE brought the party by performing Cake by the Ocean and Body Moves on a floating platform over the audience, complete with crowd surfers on inflatable donuts, cakes and pizza.

Best Male winner Shawn Mendes wowed the crowd as he emerged from a holographic pyramid, while playing piano for a moving rendition of his hit Mercy.

Best New Act recipient Zara Larsson shook the arena with a fierce medley of her massive hits, Lush Life and Ain’t My Fault.

Lukas Graham commanded the stage with a passionate medley of their hits against a glittering backdrop of stars, culminating in a full-on orchestra for their smash ballad 7 Years.

OneRepublic wowed the audience by performing their new track Let’s Hurt Tonight as rain poured down from the stage, soaking the band while they serenaded fans.

Hometown hero and EMA Music Week Ambassador Afrojack rocked the house with his smash hits Gone and Hey.

    Wizkid, Krane’s scuffle gets deeper

The scuffle between Ayodeji Balogun (aka WizKid) and Dammy Krane, as popularly called by his fans, got deeper on Thursday night as Wizkid reportedly threw a glass cup on Krane’s face at Quilox Club.

Earlier on Thursday, Krane had apologised to his fans on twitter concerning his accusations of Wizkid over stealing songs and lyrics belonging to him.

“Park, reverse baby pull over, was mine. Baba nla melodies both chorus and verses were recorded in his Wizkid’s house by me in he’s studio,” Krane said on his twitter handle.

However, it was gathered that Obafemi Martins, former Super Eagles Striker, was hosting a party at Quilox Club and both singers were present.

Although, both singers are yet to speak on the latest development, there were claims on Social media that Krane left the club soaked in blood.
