  • Man in court for posting fake picture of insane girl on Facebook

    A 28-year-old man, Abdul-Salam Wasiu, on Wednesday appeared in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly posting a fake picture of an insane girl inside a gutter on Facebook.

    The police charged charged Wasiu, whose address was not given with two counts of breach of peace and belonging to secret a society.

    The Prosecutor, ASP Akpam Ikem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 15 at 2.54 p.m., at No. 130, Aka Road, by Church Bus Stop, in Ajangbadi area of Lagos.

    Ikem said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by posting a defamatory statement on social media.

    He said that the defendant sent a video of a girl in a gutter on Facebook, against New Planet Hotel, located on Aka Road, Ajangbadi.

    Ikem said the video the accused sent was with the caption:`This girl just got mad this moment at Aka Road; the girl just come out from the hotel shouting planet yahoo boys have used the girl, the story known to be false.

    The accused, he said, also confessed to be a member of an unlawful society, a secret cult group known as Eiye confraternity.”

    He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 168 and 44 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, as amended.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaya, admitted Wasiu to bail in the sum N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

    Adekomaya adjourned the case until May 28, for hearing.

  • Man docked for theft of two motorcycles

    A 22-year-old man, Lukuman Ibrahim, was on Thursday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing two motorcycles worth  N455,000.

    Ibrahim of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and felony.

    The prosecutor, ASP. Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 14, at about 3 a.m., at Magbon area.

    Ikem said that the accused conspired with others at large to steal two motorcycles with registration numbers EKY 245QL and SMK 272 BK valued at N455,000.

    “These motorcycles belonged to Mr Sholeye Solomon and Ibrahim Wahab, the complainants.

    “The offences contravened Sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” the prosecutor said.

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty, while the Chief Magistrate, Patrick Adekomaya, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    The case was adjourned until June 6, for further hearing.

  • Auto mechanic steals customer’s radiator

    An auto mechanic, Ibikunle Ibidapo, was on Tuesday charged with stealing a car radiator worth N21,000 at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

    The accused, who resides at No. 4, Segla Way in Topo, Badagry, is facing a charge of stealing.

    Insp. Akpan Ikem, the Police Prosecutor, told the court that the accused committed the office on May 10 at his workshop located at Ajara area of Badagry.

    Ikem alleged that the accused stole the radiator of Mr Adesina Akinde’s car which he gave to him to repair.

    “The mechanic collected the car to service it, instead he stole the radiator of the car and sold it.

    “He was later caught after dodging the police,” he said.

    The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum.

    Chief Magistrate Jimoh Adefioye, who gave the ruling, adjourned the case until June 18 for further hearing.

    Court docked man over alleged furniture theft

    A 30-year-old unemployed man, Timi Daniel,  who allegedly stole a set of furniture valued at N65,000.00 was on Wednesday brought before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

    The accused, who resides at No. 4, Dada Street, Idale, Badagry is facing a count charge of stealing.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused had on December 8 stole the set of furniture from a complex located at Ibereko area in Badagry.

    He said that the accused committed the crime with two others now at large.

    “He committed the act by pretending that he wanted to buy the furniture; so, this served as a form of distraction for the attendant.

    “So, while the attendant was with him, the other accomplices took the furniture and ran away in a car,” he said.

    The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    Daniel, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.

    He ordered that the surety must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government, and adjourned the case until January 25, 2018 for further hearing.

  • Two in court over theft of seven tyres

    Two in court over theft of seven tyres

    Two men, Laisi Emmanuel and Julius Oluwaseun, who stole seven tyres from one Jonathan Maduka, were on Friday brought before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

    The defendants, whose addresses are unknown, are facing a one-count charge of stealing.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 15 at Water Corporation, Ajara Dokoh, Badagry.

    According to Ikem, the defendants were to take the tyres whose value were unknown to the complainant’s warehouse but absconded with them.

    “The defendants sold the tyres, spent the money and have been on the run since then,’’ he said.

    Ikem said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal law of Lagos State. 2011.

    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against them.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N500, 000 and two sureties each, who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    He, however, adjourned the case till June 17, for hearing.

     

  • Commercial driver docked over alleged assault on passenger

    A 44-year-old commercial driver, Alamu Olusegun, who allegedly assaulted one Kareem Suni, by beating him up, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

    Olusegun, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of assault.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, had told the court that the accused committed the offence at AP Bus Stop, Ibiye, Badagry.

    He said the accused gave the complainant several fist-blows that caused him severe injuries, after a disagreement they had over money.

    “There was an argument between the complainant and the accused, and the defendant started beating him mercilessly. It was onlookers that rescued the complainant, “he said.
    The prosecutor said that the accused was arrested by a policeman on duty at the bus stop where the incident occurred.

    Ikem said the offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 171 provides for a three-year jail term for offenders.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
    The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Jimoh Adefioye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

    The case was adjourned until June 6 for mention.

     

  • Man in court over theft of recharge cards

    An unemployed man, Chilobe Ani, 32, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State over alleged theft of recharge cards worth N70,000.

    The accused, whose address is unknown, was arraigned on a charge of stealing.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, told court that the accused committed the offence on March 4 at Magbon Bus Stop in Badagry.

    He said that the recharge cards belonged to one Sunday Ihekworogwo.

    “The accused went to the stand where recharge cards are sold and did not see anyone at the spot, so he took the bag containing the recharge cards and ran away.

    “He was caught by onlookers who saw what he did.’’

    Ikem noted that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Defense Counsel, Mr. Michael Adeite, pleaded with court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.

    The Magistrate, Mr. Jimoh Adefioye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    The case was adjourned till April 12 for further hearing.

     

  • Man in court for asaulting girlfriend over cash

    A 37-year-old man, Chibuke Nwachukwu, on Wednesday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly injuring his girlfriend with a cutlass following an argument over money.

    The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of assault.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 28, at Small London, Seme border.

    He said that the accused and the complainant, Miss Glory Raymond, got into an argument over money when the former carried out the act.

    “He was supposed to give her money, but his continual refusal resulted into a heated argument between both of them.

    “During the argument, the accused used a cutlass to inflict injuries on the left hand of the complainant,” he said.

    Ikem said that the offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2011.

    The section prescribes three years imprisonment for an offender.

    The accused, who was not represented by a counsel, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

    The Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

    He adjourned the case till April 12, for further hearing.
