  • Badagry seeks key positions in Sanwo-Olu’s administration

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badagry have called on party leaders in the state to allocate key positions to their indigenes.

They appealed to the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to ensure that Badagry people are not marginalised in the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

At a briefing in Topa Guest House, Badagry, the group, under the aegis of APC Leaders in Badagry Federation, alleged that Badagry has been relegated to the background.

Prince Sedegla Sunday Balogun, who addressed reporters, stated that any substantive position coming to the division stops at Ojo.

Balogun said the people of Badagry have contributed in no small way to the success of APC in the state.

He noted that the successes recorded in Lagos should be for the benefit of all the five divisions – Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos and Epe.

“The people of Badagry Federation – the Eguns, Aworis, Yorubas – are indeed disillusioned about our status in Lagos State, as we have been grossly neglected in the scheme of things in a state whose development our people are contributing to in diverse ways,” he said.

He said Badagry’s large deposit of oil and gas from the Dahomey Basin not only generates 13 per cent derivation from the federation account to the state government but also puts Lagos on the list of oil-producing states in the country.

He lamented that since the creation of the state, no indigene of Badagry division has either been appointed or elected to govern the state.

“Rather, we have only witnessed resultant lopsided and skewed development against our people as compared to others.

“It’s not that we do not have  qualified people to hold viable positions such as Secretary to the State Government, Commissioners, Deputy Speaker, among others. But, we’ve not been accorded the consideration,” he said.
