Gareth Bale and Novak Djokovic will take part in the Ryder Cup celebrity All-Star Match alongside a host of famous faces.

Sport stars and A-list stars will take to the green before Europe face USA in the 44th  edition of the Ryder Cup.

Ten celebs have been split into two teams of five with each captained by golf legends – Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin.

Bale, 34, is an experienced golfer and made his PGA debut in February when he partnered Joseph Bramlett at the Pebble Beach pro-am.

The former Real Madrid star will partner Montgomerie in Rome while Pavin is accompanied by AC Milan legend Andriy Shevchenko.

Djokovic, who is also on Team Monty, is paired with Kipp Popert, a recent winner on the G4D (golfers with a disability) Tour.

Dude Perfect star Garrett Hilbert, who recently formed part of a group investing in Burnley, partners professional surfer Leonardo Fioravanti in the last of the Team Monty pairings.

They will face American actress Kathryn Newton and former NFL star Victor Cruz, who won the Super Bowl with the New York Giants in 2012.

Also included in Team Pavin is Ferrari driver Sainz, who will lock horns with Djokovic alongside Tomasso Perrino, another G4D Tour star.

The event takes place two days before the Ryder Cup tees off on Wednesday September 27, and Bale is excited by the opportunity.

He said: “The Ryder Cup is a special event, having experienced the incredible atmosphere at Europe’s win in 2010, I can’t wait to experience some of that magic again in Rome in a few weeks’ time.

“The All-Star Match, under the captaincy of Colin Montgomerie, will be an amazing experience and I’m really looking forward to teeing it up with some great people. It’s sure to be a top event and one the fans will really enjoy.”

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic is also looking forward to testing himself on a different type of grass.

He said: “I can’t wait to tee it up in Rome and experience the incredible atmosphere of a Ryder Cup, which has become legendary.

“The course looks like a fantastic test of golf and my playing partner Kipp, a seasoned pro, has won a lot on the G4D Tour recently so I’m confident we can get a point for the team. It’s going to be a great spectacle for the fans.”

  • Real Madrid more of a team without Ronaldo – Bale

Gareth Bale says Real Madrid work together more as a collective unit without former talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, after the Portuguese forward moved to Juventus in the close season.

The Welsh winger is thriving in the absence of Ronaldo and Madrid have three wins from four La Liga matches.

Bale is Madrid’s key weapon as the Champions League starts again this week, with Real facing Roma on Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“It’s maybe a bit more relaxed (without Ronaldo),” Bale told the Daily Mail. “I suppose there is more of a team, more working as one unit rather than one player.”

Madrid’s all-time top goal scorerRonaldo was crucial to the club’s three consecutive Champions League wins under former coach Zinedine Zidane, although it was Bale who scored twice against Liverpool in the 3-1 triumph in May’s Kiev final.

Bale came on from the bench and said he was annoyed about not starting the match, with that rage fuelling him to score a brilliant overhead kick.

“(I was) angry. Quite angry, to be honest. Obviously, I felt I deserved to start the game,” said Bale. “I’d been scoring goals. So yeah, I suppose it was hard to put the anger aside.”

With Ronaldo out of the way he is essential to new manager Julen Lopetegui’s Madrid, with the defending champions ready to start their bid for a fourth consecutive trophy on Wednesday in Group G.

  • Bale: Madrid should party in Cardiff if…

GARETH BALE knows exactly where he will take his Real Madrid team-mates if they win the Champions League.

Real Madrid take on Juventus in the final in Bale’s hometown of Cardiff on Saturday (7.45pm).

Should Los Blancos win, it will be their 12th European title and Bale will collect his third Champions League winners’ medal.

The 27-year-old co-owns a bar in the city centre (Elevens Bar & Grill) and that seems to be a suitable party spot.

When asked how he would celebrate if his side win the Champions League, he said: “I know where I’d want to celebrate.

“Take the team back to Elevens Bar & Grill and have a few beers.”

Murals have even popped up of Cardiff’s prodigal son.

And Bale admits it feels a bit ‘strange’.

“It’s a bit strange obviously. Growing up in Cardiff and just being a normal Cardiff boy… then seeing massive drawings on walls in the street of you.”

Bale lifts weights in pool, working for Champions League final

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale is working hard to return from injury as soon as possible.

The frontman has been plagued by injury trouble all season, hobbling off against Barcelona in April, and has seen his place in the side filled by Isco when he has been unable to feature.

However, the Welshman was lifting weights in the pool on Thursday morning as he continues his recovery.

The 27-year-old is right to be proud after Zinedine Zidane’s side beat city rivals Atletico on Wednesday to set up a Champions League final against Juventus.

Zidane has hinted Bale could be fit for the showpiece in Cardiff and said: ‘He’s recovering and there’s time for him to be ready for the final.

‘I hope he’s ready before and I hope he can be with us more than anything.

‘We’re a better team when he plays.’

It could be another historic season for the Bernabeu club as they have a game in hand on leaders Barcelona in the La Liga title race and are currently on the same points.

  • Ambode reads riot act against chiefs colluding with criminals

Ambode reads riot act against chiefs colluding with criminals

Any Bale or chief found to be collaborating with militants and other criminals to destabilize Lagos State would have their title revoked, dethroned and prosecuted, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode said on Thursday.

“Once you (the chiefs) are identified, you are gone,” he said.

Reading the riot act to hundreds of these Bales and chiefs at the Adeyemi Bero Hall, Ambode said the government would not fold its arms while some unscrupulous elements collude with hoodlums to make the state ungovernable.

He spoke through the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs Mr Muslim Folami.

Folami said the meeting with all the Part II and Part III Bales and chiefs was sequel to the one organised at the palace of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi last weekend where the Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni disclosed that security reports had indicted some of the chiefs of aiding and abetting the militants in causing mayhem in the division.

The discovery according to Folami made the government to resolve to henceforth apply the full weights of the law against any Bale or chiefs caught colluding with any criminal in the state.

“To show you how serious we were, the governor directed that we summon all of you from all the five divisions of the state to inform you of our resolve as a government to protect lives and properties of all Lagosians and in doing this, we would deal decisively with anyone found to colluding with criminals to disturb the peace-loving people of Lagos.”

Early this month, militants had stormed the riverine community of Ishawo, in Ikorodu, killing a military captain, five other policemen and dozens of residents.

Only last week, ruval cult gangs had over run some streets in Mushin causing mayhem, killing and destroying properties.

He said the government would continue to invest in the security architecture of the state wuth a view to be responsive to the safety needs of the people.

“The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, which we just established is another initiative by the government to secure all neighbourhood from attacks from kidnappers, cultists, militants, vandals and other criminals threatening the peace of the state.”

He charged all chiefs and Bales to be fully committed to helping the government to nip the spate of violence in the state and not join hands with undesirable elements to destroy the state.

Folami also addressed the issue of land grabbing; urging these chiefs community leaders to eschew greed, adding that anyone caught fermenting trouble in any part of the state would no longer be spared.

In their response, the Bales and chiefs urged the government not to hesitate to flush out undesirable elements.

One of Bales the Alakan of Imota Chief Abudu Sani, also called for transparency in the war against crime, alleging that some unscrupulous elements within the Police Force also collude with criminals to destabilise the lead of their various communities.

He said the Bales and chiefs would continue to collaborate with the government to sanitize the state.

  • Wales boss defends Bale

    Wales boss defends Bale

Wales manager Chris Coleman has backed under-fire Gareth Bale to cope with the criticism being levelled against him at Real Madrid.

Bale has been accused of acting selfishly during matches by not passing to team-mates, with Cristiano Ronaldo clearly displeased with the former Tottenham player for not playing in Karim Benzema against Espanyol in January.

The critical attention on Bale intensified as a result of Real’s 4-0 drubbing at the hands of city rivals Atletico in Saturday’s Madrid derby, with leading newspaper AS calling him “irrelevant” and refusing to give him a player rating in their match report.

But Coleman believes the £85.3m signing has the mental fortitude to not be adversely affected by the criticism currently being levelled at him.

“He’s the most expensive player in the world and they’re on his case but he’ll be fine,” said Bale’s international manager.

“If you’re going to go to the biggest club in the world for the biggest fee in the history of football you’ve either got the mentality to get on with it and not get caught up in it or let it engulf you and affect you.

“I know which one applies to Gareth – but it’s just Madrid and the expectations there.

“They’ve just lost heavily to Atletico and the press are getting on his back and a lot was made when he didn’t pass the ball because Ronaldo’s the man there.

“People see Ronaldo waving his arms about at Gareth not passing the ball but I’ve seen Ronaldo in the same position and not pass it. But how many assists has Gareth made and how many important goals has he scored?

“They won the Champions League last year and he was a huge part of that fantastic season and they’re still top of the league in his second.”

Wales return to European Qualifiers action when they face Israel on March 28, with confidence high in the camp following victories over Cyprus and Andorra and draws against Belgium and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

“I say to all my players whatever’s going at their clubs they can park that up,” added Coleman. “It’s an escape for them and Gareth is no different to any other player, he’s dedicated to the cause.

“He wants to come and represent Wales and what’s going on in Madrid won’t bother him. He’s desperate to play on that world stage at a big championship and he knows he’s got a good chance in this current crop.”

  • Bale joins Madrid for £86m

    Bale joins Madrid for £86m

Gareth Bale is free to join Real Madrid after Tottenham agreed a world record £86million deal with the Spanish giants on Sunday night, Daily Mail reports.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy signed off the staggering move for the PFA Player of the Year following talks with directors in the boardroom at White Hart Lane.

Bale’s transfer to Real beats the previous world record of £80m which the Spanish giants paid to Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

Levy returned from talks in Madrid with Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett and Tottenham director of football Franco Baldini to watch his club’s 1-0 victory over Swansea City after agreeing the deal.

It is understood that the decision to travel to Madrid to meet Perez — who is known to revel in these situations — was part of a tactic designed to get the highest possible price.

The fee represents an extraordinary return on the £7m Spurs paid Southampton six years ago and will only add to Levy’s reputation as the toughest negotiator in the game.

It also brings to an end one of the most protracted transfer sagas in the history of the game following a summer of talks.
