    Reactions as Basketmouth, AY Makun settle longstanding feud

    Renowned comedians Basketmouth and AY Makun have officially ended their 17-year-long feud, sharing a lighthearted video of their recent interaction.

    Basketmouth posted the video on Instagram, where he sought advice from AY Makun and veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) for his upcoming movie, A Ghetto Love Story, set to premiere on November 22.

    The video signifies a major reconciliation between the two comedians after years of estrangement.

    Basketmouth rejoices as ‘Mama G’ celebrates birthday

    Stand-up comedian and actor, Basketmouth, has joined the chorus of well-wishers celebrating veteran actress, Patience Ozokwo’s birthday. 

    Sharing a photo of them on the set of his project, AGL, he fondly recalled their conversation when he invited her to be part of the movie.

    Basketmouth revealed that Patience Ozokwo fondly called ‘Mama G’ without hesitation or discussion of payment, affectionately called him “son” and promised her support. 

    He expressed his gratitude for her kindness, saying it meant the world to him.

    The comedian also noted the serendipity of sharing the same birthday with the veteran actress, calling it a “blessing.”

    “When I called Mama @patienceozokwo to be a part of #AGLStheMovie, without even asking for money or any contract, her response was “You know you’re my son. I’m there for you whenever you need me.” That level of support meant the world to me.

    “What a blessing to share the same birthday with a true General. I celebrate you always”, he wrote.

    Patience Ozokwo responded in the comments, thanking Basketmouth for his heartfelt words and wishing him a happy birthday. 

    She prayed for God’s continued guidance and blessings in his life.

    “This makes my heart glad. Happy birthday to us. May God continue to bless you, guide you, and make His face shine upon you”, she wrote.

    However, in a recent update, he clarified that the two are merely business partners working on a new feature-length movie.

    The movie, titled “A Ghetto Love Story,” is co-written and produced by Miz Vick and is scheduled for release in November.

    Basketmouth’s recent post aims to address misconceptions and clarify that his original post was meant to build anticipation for the movie, not announce a romantic relationship.

    In his post, Basketmouth referred to his daughter as the “source of brightness” in his life, wishing her a life filled with love, laughter, happiness, good health, and God’s favour.

    Basketmouth makes case for polygamy with biblical references

    Comedian Basketmouth has sparked controversy on social media by advocating for polygamy and suggesting that having only one wife can lead to downfall. 

    In a recent Instagram post, he cited biblical examples, stating that men with multiple wives found favor with God while those with only one wife strayed from faith.

    Basketmouth listed biblical figures like Abraham, Jacob, David and Solomon, who had multiple wives and found favour with the Lord, while citing Ahab, Herod, and Pontius Pilate, who had only one wife and allegedly lost their way and fell out with God.

    “According to the Holy Bible, Ahab – 1 wife Herod – 1 wife Ananias-1 wife Pontius Pilate – 1 wife Jeroboam – 1 wife Nebuchadnezzar. – 1 wife Haaman – 1 wife Zakayo – 1 wife And they all lost their way and betrayed God.”

    He added: “Abraham – 3 wives Jacob – 4 wives David – 4 wives Solomon – 700 wives and 300 concubines Rehoboam – 18 wives Abijah – 14 wives Elkanah – 2 wives Lemech – 2 wives And they all found favour in the eyes of the Lord. Whatever you do with this information is none of my business… However u want to interpret it is your cup of tea but I will be comment session.”

    Basketmouth’s post has been met with mixed reactions, with many criticising his interpretation of biblical teachings and others supporting his views on polygamy. 

    Basketmouth’s life has also been subjected to scrutiny after he ended a 12-year marriage and open about his experiences with relationships.

    Comedian Basketmouth has clarified his recent shade aimed at Wizkid, stating it was a marketing tactic to generate buzz for his Canadian tour. 

    During Davido and Chioma’s wedding, Basketmouth jokingly lamented the difficulty in promoting his tour due to the attention focused on the wedding, even overshadowing Wizkid’s social media drama. 

    The comment sparked backlash from Wizkid’s fans, who threatened to “cancel” him.

    However, in a recent interview on Backstage Banter, Basketmouth revealed that his intention was to create a stir and get people talking, which ultimately worked in his favor.

    He said: “Wizkid is my guy…that was a marketing technique. But I knew it was going to be edgy.

    “I knew it was going to hit people. I knew they were going to get upset and they did exactly what I wanted them to do. It worked”.

    Ace comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has advised famous singer, Innocent Idibia, best known as 2baba to join the movie industry fully.

    Applauding his effort and role in the latest episode of his skits, The secret of Lulu, Basket urged him to pursue a full acting career with his Tiv ascent.

    According to Basketmouth, he is already creating a project for 2Baba’s comic character in the skit.

    Stand-up comedian, Bright Okpocha, better known as Basketmouth, has stated that he took a chance at the movie ‘Brotherhood’ out of curiosity to see if he can function well in that space. 

    Basketmouth featured in the 2022 Nollywood movie ‘Brotherhood’.

    Speaking with PUNCH, Basketmouth said he starred in the movie due to curiosity about what he could do in the movie scene.

    The comedian, who played the role of ‘Shadow’, the head of a notorious robbery gang, also said he dyed his hair white to experiment with an idea.

    Basketmouth added that he will be releasing three movies in the course of the year.

    He said: “I featured in Brotherhood mostly because I was curious to see if I could pull it off, and I want to believe I did. Maybe when I get a good script with a daring character, I just might take a shot at acting again.

    “However, I will be producing at least three movies this year, starting with A Ghetto Love Story. The rest will be announced as time goes on. We have some exciting projects coming up. My team and I have been working tirelessly for a couple of years now preparing for 2024. It will be a year to remember for sure. I am embarking on a new journey and I am desperately looking forward to it.

     “I have been doing comedy for 25 years now, and I think I’ve had a good taste of it already. I believe it is time to explore new opportunities in music and movies.”

    Veteran comedian, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, has disclosed how he once accommodated his junior rival comedians, Basketmouth and AY Makun.

    He said the duo were living in his Boy’s Quarters years ago when they were still scratching the surface of their careers.

    The ‘King of Comedy’ disclosed this in the latest episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast co-hosted by actor Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, aka Nedu.

    He said: “Basketmouth and AY, when you think about it, these are people who were living in boys’ quarters with me back in the days.”

    The Nation reported that Basketmouth and AY were engaged in a 17-year-old feud until recently when the former publicly apologised to the latter.

    Basketmouth also sent an invite to his former rival, AY, to attend his recent comedy show at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos.
