  • Schweinsteiger, Ivanovic welcome first child

Bastian Schweinsteiger and Ana Ivanovic have announced the birth of their first child after posting a series of heartwarming pictures of their baby boy on social media.

The former Manchester United midfielder took to his Instagram page to share a picture of his little boy’s feet with the caption, ‘Welcome to the world our little boy! We are so happy.’

His wife and ex-tennis star Ivanovic also announced the news of their new-born baby on Monday morning and showed off his huge teddy bear collection.

Ivanovic said with delight on her Instagram page: ‘Welcome to the world our little boy. Words cannot describe the joy and the happiness we feel in our hearts!’

The couple revealed the news that they were expecting back in November after Ivanovic posted a picture of a tiny pair of Adidas Yeezy trainers alongside her own and her husband’s.

Schweinsteiger, 33, now plays for Chicago Fire and has one assist in the one game he has played this season.

The World Cup winner spent two seasons at Old Trafford before making his switch to the MLS.

Ex-United boss Louis van Gaal recently hit out at Jose Mourinho’s treatment of Schweinsteiger during his time at the club.

The Dutchman said in February: ‘Schweinsteiger was older, of course, but not too old. Still, his body was not able to keep up with the high demands of Premier League. Bayern sold him to us as fit player, but, in reality, physically he had reached the end.

‘How Mourinho treated him after me, Schweini did not deserve this. But it also explains how things were with Schweinsteiger.

‘It’s a shame because he is a player like Luis Enrique, Mark van Bommel or Philipp Lahm, a character always present on the pitch.’

Ana Ivanovic and former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger are expecting their first child.

The couple, who married in Venice last year, took to social media on Thursday morning to announce the news.

Retired tennis star Ivanovic was first to let fans know, sharing a picture of a tiny pair of Adidas Yeezy trainers alongside her own and her husband’s.

‘A little extension to our family… couldn’t be happier,’ the 30-year-old wrote alongside the adorable image.

Schweinsteiger then followed suit, posting a snap of himself and  his wife with the caption: ‘We are expecting a new family member and are so grateful!’

The announcement does not come as a surprise, with news outlets in Germany having reported last month that Ivanovic was already four months pregnant.

World Cup winner Schweinsteiger is currently deciding whether or not he will re-sign with MLS outfit Chicago Fire for the 2018 season.

The 33-year-old left United to sign a one-year deal with the American club in March and has proved a big hit in the MLS.

Boasting the second highest selling shirt in the league, Schweinsteiger, contributing three goals and two assists, led the Fire to third-place in the Eastern Conference this season, the franchise’s best finish since the 2009 campaign.

Unfortunately for the German, his team were eliminated in the knockout round of the play-offs after a 4-0 defeat to the New York Red Bulls last month.

The player’s contract contains a mutual option for next season and manager Nelson Rodriguez has said keeping hold of him is a ‘priority’.

‘We remain optimistic that Basti and we will reach a mutually satisfactory agreement and that he will return,’ said Rodriguez.

‘I won’t put a timeline on it. I think Basti has proven his importance to our club and to our team and that remains a priority to bring him back.’

Man Utd: Bastian Schweinsteiger’s training return a ‘human’ decision – Mourinho

Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho said it was a “human and professional decision” to allow midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger to rejoin first-team training this week.

The former Germany captain, 32, has trained alone or with the under-23 side since Mourinho took charge this summer.

Schweinsteiger last played for United in March, under Mourinho’s predecessor Louis van Gaal. “Schweinsteiger is back,” said Mourinho.

The Portuguese, whose side face Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday, suggested fewer players taking part in training influenced his decision.

He said Schweinsteiger may play for United again despite recent reports suggesting he will leave in the January transfer window.
“If he stays with us he becomes one more option,” said Mourinho. “In this moment we have no problems in midfield like we do in defence.”

Schweinsteiger, a 2014 World Cup winner, was named in United’s Premier League squad for this season, but left out of their Europa League squad.

He has made 31 appearances for the club since his £14.4m move from Bayern Munich in July 2015.

Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has been included in Manchester United’s 25-man Premier League squad.

The 32-year-old World Cup winner was told by new United boss, Jose Mourinho, recently that he was unlikely to play for the Old Trafford club again.

The former Germany captain retired from international football earlier this week after 24 goals and 121 caps, the BBC reports.

All 20 top-flight clubs had to submit their 25-man squads to the Premier League by 16:00 BST on Thursday.

Under-21 players – like Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial – are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.

Schweinsteiger, who signed a three-year contract in July 2015, has trained alone and with the under-23s since Mourinho took charge in the summer.

The former Bayern Munich star said he “will be ready if the team needs me” but Mourinho said Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick are above him in the pecking order.

“We have five players for two positions,” said the United boss, who took over from Louis van Gaal. “It’s very difficult that an opportunity will arrive.”

    Schweinsteiger quits international football

Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger announced his retirement from international football on Friday, bringing to an end a glittering career that ended in disappointment with a semi-final exit at Euro 2016 in France.

“It wasn’t to be and I have to accept it,” Reuters quoted the 31-year-old as saying in a statement on his verified Twitter account (@BSchweinsteiger).

“The historic and emotional high was winning the World Cup in 2014.”

Schweinsteiger was vice-captain when Germany edged Argentina in extra-time to claim a fourth World Cup title and took over as captain when his then Bayern Munich team mate, Philipp Lahm, stood down after the 2014 tournament.

His seventh major tournament saw him lead Germany to the last four of the European Championships earlier this month but the 2-0 defeat to hosts France proved to be his 120th and last appearance.

His first call-up came as a 19-year-old in June 2004 and a year later, he scored the first of 24 international goals.

“I was able to turn out 120 times for my country and experience moments which were indescribably beautiful and successful,” he tweeted.

“It is only right and sensible to finish now and wish the team all the best in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.”

Bayern, Man U confirm Schweinsteiger’s transfer

Bayern Munich chief, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, has confirmed that Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to join Manchester United, Goal reports.

The Premier League giants unveiled Netherlands winger Memphis Depay on Friday and will follow up the capture of the former PSV winger with the signing of the German World Cup winner.

Schweinsteiger has just one year remaining on his current Bayern contract and has commanded a transfer fee in the region of £12 million.

“My colleagues at Manchester United have been in touch,” Goal quoted Rummenigge as saying to reporters at a press conference on Saturday.

“We’ve reached an agreement over a transfer. Bastian wants to do something new at the end of his career. He asked that we meet his wishes.

“I regret that he wants to leave because Bastian is one of the best-performing players that we have. He has done great things with the club, I can only wish the best for him. The national team can only benefit from this, I’m convinced he’ll play well at Old Trafford.”

Manchester United subsequently released a short statement on its official website confirming the transfer pending a medical and contractual terms.

“Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Bayern Munich to sign midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, subject to a medical and personal terms,” the club stated. “A further announcement will be made when the process is complete.”

United has offered the 30-year-old a three-year deal and wages of £180,000-a-week, a salary in line with his current earnings at Bayern, as well as a £4million signing-on fee.
