UCL: Things to know as PSG take on Bayern Munich

Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain have battled through a turbulent start to the season marked by a series of injuries to key players, including Desire Doué, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembélé, and Vitinha. Despite those setbacks, the French champions have managed to maintain their stride both domestically and in Europe.

With most of their sidelined stars returning to action in October, PSG have steadied the ship and head into November sitting top of both Ligue 1 and their Champions League group.

Their resilience was once again on display over the weekend as they edged past Nice 1–0 in the French top flight. Despite dominating possession with 77% and creating several clear chances worth 2.29 expected goals, PSG needed a dramatic 94th-minute strike from Gonçalo Ramos to clinch all three points.

In Europe, Enrique’s men produced a statement performance in their last Champions League outing, dismantling Bayer Leverkusen 7–2 in a thrilling encounter. The match featured a missed penalty from Alejandro Grimaldo and two red cards—one for each side—but PSG’s attacking flair ultimately proved decisive.

That emphatic win kept the Parisians top of their Champions League group with a perfect nine points from three matches. As they prepare to return to the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, Enrique’s side will look to extend their impressive home form, having won all but one fixture there this season—the only blemish being a 3–3 draw with Strasbourg on October 17.

PSG vs Bayern Munich: Head-to-Head Record

Paris Saint-Germain’s recent record against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League makes for grim reading. The French champions have lost each of their last four meetings with the German giants—their longest ever losing streak against a single opponent in the competition.

Bayern have enjoyed the upper hand historically, winning eight of the 14 Champions League encounters between the two sides (losing six). Another victory in this fixture would not only extend their dominance but also see them become the first team ever to win three consecutive away games against PSG in the competition—having triumphed 1–0 at the Parc des Princes in both April 2021 and February 2023.

PSG’s struggles in front of goal against Bayern have been particularly costly. The Parisians have failed to score in any of their last four Champions League clashes with the Bavarian club—their longest goalless run against a single opponent in the tournament’s history.

Across those four matches, PSG have fired 40 shots and registered 14 on target, yet none have found the back of the net—a drought they will be desperate to end when the two European heavyweights meet again.

  • Bayern set to  seal 34th Bundesliga title

Bayern set to  seal 34th Bundesliga title

Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich can secure a 34th  German league crown tomorrow  at RB Leipzig, having opened up an eight-point advantage with three games left, while Borussia Dortmund are desperate for a top-four finish to rescue their season.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany is on the brink of reclaiming the Bundesliga title for the German record champions in his first season in charge, a year after Bayer Leverkusen won a surprise league and Cup double.

The Bavarians are on 75 points, with Leverkusen in second with 67 before travelling to fourth-placed Champions League hopefuls Freiburg on Sunday.

Bayern’s top scorer Harry Kane, looking to land the first title of his career, is suspended for the game.

His team will win the title if they beat fifth-placed Leipzig or at least match Leverkusen’s result against Freiburg, who have 51 points. Even if Bayern and Leverkusen both lose, the Bavarians will win the title.

With the top two spots wrapped up, at least five teams are in with a fighting chance for a top-four finish that leads to automatic Champions League qualification next season.

Eintracht Frankfurt, who face European hopefuls Mainz 05 on Sunday, are third on 55 points, with a four-point gap to Freiburg, and almost certain of a Champions League spot.

Dortmund, sixth with 48 points and three behind Freiburg, have endured a rollercoaster domestic season and from early title contenders are battling to secure a Champions League place to rescue something from an otherwise disappointing campaign.

The Ruhr Valley club host VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday.

Dortmund have won four of their last five Bundesliga matches, with coach Niko Kovac and his players confident they can still finish in the top four.

“What has characterised us in the past weeks is that everyone wants the success of the team,” said Dortmund defender Waldemar Anton. “That is how we got our belief back.

“We just kept at it and that is why I am happy that we are still in with a realistic chance.”

At the other end of the table it could be curtains for bottom club VfL Bochum if they lose Friday’s relegation battle at Heidenheim, who are four points above them in 16th place and sit in the relegation playoff spot.

  • Eyes on record-breaking  Kane as Bayern set to clinch Bundesliga

Eyes on record-breaking  Kane as Bayern set to clinch Bundesliga

Bayern Munich will secure the Bundesliga title tomorrow with a win over top four hopefuls Mainz 05 if rivals and reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen fail to beat Augsburg.

The Bavarians, who last year saw Leverkusen clinch a league and Cup double undefeated, are eager to seal their 34th  German league crown and re-establish their domestic dominance.

It would also help put last week’s bitter Champions League quarter-final exit to Inter Milan behind them.

For 31-year-old forward Harry Kane, who has scored 60 goals in his 60 Bundesliga matches for Bayern so far, it would be the first major club trophy of his career, having failed to lift any silverware with Tottenham Hotspur or England.

With 24 league goals so far, Kane is also on track to become the first player to win the top scorer title in both of his first two Bundesliga seasons.

Bayern are on 72 points with four matches left to play, and with Leverkusen second on 64.

For 35-year-old Bayern veteran Thomas Mueller, who will be leaving at the end of the season after 25 years at the club, it could be his 500th  league game for Bayern.

Only three other players in Bundesliga history have ever reached that mark playing for just one club: Charly Koerbel (602 games for Eintracht Frankfurt), Manfred Kaltz (581 matches for Hamburg SV) and Michael Lameck (518 for VfL Bochum).

While Bayern’s title win looks all but certain and Leverkusen are sure of Champions League football next season being 12 points ahead of third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt, there is a battle raging for the last two spots in the top continental club competition.

The top four finishers qualify automatically for the Champions League.

Eintracht, third on 52 points, host fourth-placed RB Leipzig, on 49, on Saturday. Freiburg, on 48, are fifth.

Mainz, sixth on 47 points, and seventh-placed Borussia Dortmund on 45, are still in with a chance, albeit slim, of finishing in the top four.

Dortmund, who travel to Hoffenheim on Saturday, have had a disappointing domestic campaign, dropping outside of the European spots.

Failure to qualify for the Champions League, a competition in which they reached the final last year, would be a major financial and sporting blow to the publicly-traded Ruhr valley club.

But club bosses know that the horror scenario would be missing out on European football completely next season.

UCL QF: Things to know as Inter Milan hosts Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are set to clash in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals for only the third time in history, with a coveted semifinal spot on the line.

This heavyweight encounter features two of Europe’s most decorated clubs, both currently leading their domestic leagues—Bayern topping the Bundesliga and Inter sitting comfortably atop Serie A.

Though similarly dominant at home, their journeys in Europe have been markedly different. Bayern thrives on high-intensity pressing and attacking flair, while Inter leans on tactical discipline and defensive organization.

With contrasting styles and high stakes, the tie promises a thrilling and strategic battle as both sides aim to solidify their place among Europe’s elite.

Only Barcelona have outscored Bayern Munich in Europe’s top five leagues this season, with the Bavarians netting an impressive 81 goals through 28 matchweeks of the Bundesliga.

Their attacking prowess is on full display, powered by an explosive frontline that has been nearly impossible to stop. In contrast, Inter Milan arrive at the quarterfinals with a formidable defensive record, having conceded just two goals across their 10 Champions League matches this season.

A goal-scoring juggernaut meets a defensive fortress in this thrilling quarterfinal encounter. Bayern Munich’s offensive firepower will clash with Inter Milan’s impenetrable defense in what promises to be a fiercely contested battle for a spot in the semifinals.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the first-leg of this exciting Champions League fixture between two of Europe’s most iconic sides.

Here are few quick updates on both teams

    1. This will be the 10th meeting between Bayern Munich and Internazionale in European competition, with the German side winning five of the previous nine (D1 L3), including the last time they faced each other in the UEFA Champions League (2-0 wins home and away in the 2022-23 group stage).

    2. Internazionale have lost four of their seven games against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League (W2 D1), but have eliminated them in both of their meetings in the knockout stages of the competition: 2-0 in the 2009-10 final and progressing on away goals over two legs in 2010-11 in the last 16 (3-3 on aggregate).

    3. Only Real Madrid (seven times) have eliminated Bayern Munich in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League more times than Internazionale (2), with the Italians being one of only five teams to have done so on more than one occasion (also two for Barcelona, Chelsea and Milan).

    4. Bayern Munich are unbeaten in their last 22 home matches in the UEFA Champions League (W17 D5), with the last visiting side to beat them in the competition being Paris SG in April 2021 (3-2 in the quarter-final first leg).

Leaders Bayern to continue goal rush at St Pauli

Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich will look to continue their prolific scoring run away from home when they visit St Pauli on Saturday, with the Bavarians having netted more than four times on average on their travels in the league this season.

Coach Vincent Kompany said on Friday he did not know why his team was so effective on the road but he hoped it would continue on Saturday.

“Good question. Honestly I don’t know why that is,” Kompany told a press conference. “I don’t think we differentiate too much between away games and home games. Obviously it is extra motivation to play in our Allianz Arena.”

“But we have also played a lot of matches on the road. Our plan does not change whether we play against St Pauli away or at home,” he said.

“Maybe that is the reason we have scored so much. Maybe it is the opponents changing their plans. We have prepared for what we have seen and we hope it will work on the day.”

Undefeated Bayern, in top spot on 23 points and three ahead of RB Leipzig in second place, have scored 22 of their total 32 goals in their five away matches in the league this season.

They beat Benfica 1-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday but Kompany said his players would be ready to go again on Saturday despite their busy match schedule.

“My players will be fresh on Saturday. I have the feeling the team is fresh mentally and physically even though we did not have a lot of time to recover,” Kompany said.

  • UCL: Barcelona versus Bayern Munich preview

UCL: Barcelona versus Bayern Munich preview

Barcelona’s strong form continued with an emphatic 5-0 win over Sevilla in their latest match, highlighting their solid start to the season despite a few recent hiccups. The Catalan giants are enjoying a dominant run, particularly at home.

Barcelona have won their last five home matches across all competitions, netting 20 goals while conceding just two on home soil . After a disappointing loss in their Champions League opener, Barcelona regained momentum with a victory against Young Boys and will aim to build on that when they face Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, returned to winning ways with a commanding victory over Stuttgart, ending a three-match winless streak. Harry Kane’s hat-trick helped the Bavarians to a dominant second-half display.

However, Bayern’s away form has been inconsistent, with a win, a draw, and a loss in their last three road games. They will need to overcome this mixed record as they travel to face Barcelona, especially after their recent loss to Aston Villa in the Champions League.

Despite Bayern’s recent struggles, their history against Barcelona is impressive. The German side is unbeaten in their last six meetings with Barcelona and has lost only once in their last encounters with the Catalan giants. Given this track record, we predict Bayern will either win or secure a draw.

Nonetheless, A high-scoring match is expected , as six of the last seven meetings between these teams have produced at least three goals. Both clubs have been involved in plenty of high-scoring affairs recently, making it likely that this fixture will produce at least three goals.

  • Bayern face stiff test at ‘bogey’ Frankfurt

Bayern face stiff test at ‘bogey’ Frankfurt

Bayern Munich travel to bogey side Eintracht Frankfurt tomorrow looking to rebound having dropped points twice in the space of a week.

The Bavarians opened the season under Vincent Kompany with six straight wins, but were held to a 1-1 draw at home by champions Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday and then lost 1-0 at Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Frankfurt’s excellent start to the season means they sit just one point behind Bayern, who sit atop the Bundesliga table.

Bayern’s recent history with Frankfurt is remarkably even. In their past seven games each side have won three, with one draw.

In the corresponding fixture last season, Frankfurt dealt the previously unbeaten Bayern a telling blow, winning 5-1 to expose the vulnerabilities in a side which finished the season trophy-less.

The duels have been as unpredictable as they have been entertaining, often with off-field consequences.

Frankfurt upset Munich 3-1 to lift the German Cup in 2018 – after which Bayern poached Eagles’ coach Niko Kovac.

Kovac’s time at Bayern was an unhappy one however and eventually came to an end in November 2019, after Frankfurt unleashed a 5-1 thrashing on the German giants.

In the 14 clashes since that cup final, one side has scored five or more goals seven times.

While Bayern’s status as Germany’s big cheese is unquestioned, Frankfurt have quietly improved on and off the park in recent decades.

Bayern and Frankfurt are the only two German sides to have won a European trophy this century.

Frankfurt have played in three of the past eight German Cup finals, the same as Bayern and one more than powerhouses Borussia Dortmund.

The sides’ two top goalscorers are also neck and neck. Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush leads the league with six goals, followed by Harry Kane who has five.

Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmoeller said Wednesday “we know it’s a top game on paper, but we’re also aware of the kind of task that awaits us.”

“We’ve now earned the right to have an absolute top game ahead of us in the Bundesliga.”

Elsewhere, Dortmund face Union Berlin in the German capital today.

After a tumultuous year where they faced Real Madrid and Napoli in the Champions League but only avoided relegation on the final day, new manager Bo Svensson has made Union stable again.

  • Bayern drop points again against Freiburg

Bayern drop points again against Freiburg

Bayern Munich could end the weekend 10 points off the top of the Bundesliga after dropping points against Freiburg.

Christian Gunter fired the mid-table hosts into a lead with a fine 20-yard strike.

Bayern thought they had turned it around through Mathys Tel’s excellent curling effort and Jamal Musiala’s placed shot after a solo run.

But Lucas Holer struck an 87th-minute volley to snatch a point for the hosts.

Bayern are now seven points behind unbeaten leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who visit Cologne in their game in hand on Sunday.

It could spell the end of the Munich outfit’s decade of total dominance in German football. They have won a record 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles.

Their poor season has already led to the news Thomas Tuchel will leave his role as head coach at the end of the season.

If Bayern fail to beat Lazio on Tuesday in the Champions League last-16 second leg – they lost the first tie 1-0 in Rome – they are likely to end the season without any silverware.

  • Bayern Munich boss Tuchel to leave at end of season

Bayern Munich boss Tuchel to leave at end of season

Manager Thomas Tuchel will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

The 50-year-old replaced Julian Nagelsmann at the German champions in March 2023 on a deal until June 2025.

But the former Chelsea boss will depart a year earlier than planned as part of “a sporting realignment” at Bayern.

He led Bayern to last season’s Bundesliga title after taking over in the spring but they now sit eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen after back-to-back league defeats.

One of those was an emphatic 3-0 loss to Leverkusen – and they were also beaten 1-0 by Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said both parties agreed to “mutually end our collaboration” following “an open, good conversation”.

“Our goal is to carry out a sporting realignment with a new coach for the 2024-25 season,” he added.

“Until then, every individual in the club is expressly challenged to achieve the maximum possible in the Champions League and the Bundesliga.

“I also explicitly hold the team responsible. Especially in the Champions League, we are convinced after the defeat at Lazio we will advance to the quarter-finals with our fans behind us.”

Tuchel, who has also managed Paris St-Germain and Borussia Dortmund, said: “We will leave after this season. Until then, my coaching team and I will continue to do everything we can to ensure maximum success.”

The German, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, oversaw a quarter-final defeat at the hands of eventual winners Manchester City in Europe last season.

However, his Bayern side were able to pip Borussia Dortmund on the final day of the Bundesliga campaign – because their rivals drew 2-2 at home to Mainz – to seal an 11th straight German title.

England captain Harry Kane arrived from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth an initial 100m euros (£86m) in the hope of securing domestic and European success.

But a damaging period has seen Bayern slip further behind Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen side in the Bundesliga and they also must overturn a first-leg deficit against Lazio to stay in Europe.

Sunday’s 3-2 defeat at Bochum was their third in a row in all competitions.

  • Why Bayern Munich vs Union Berlin was postponed

Why Bayern Munich vs Union Berlin was postponed

Saturday’s Bundesliga clash between Bayern Munich and Union Berlin has been postponed due to heavy snowfall in Munich, Bayern said in a statement.

“We very much regret that we have to cancel the match, but the safety of our fans and the supporters of Union Berlin has absolute priority,” CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said.

The Munich airport suspended hundreds of flights, and long distance trains in and out of Munich were cancelled as the snowfall affected many parts of southern Germany.’
