    #BBNaija: Fans fault Kemen’s disqualification

Following the disqualification of Kemen (Ekemini Ekerete), one of the housemates from the ongoing Big Brother Naija (#BBNaija) reality TV series for sexual assault, fans and viewers of the show on Monday took to social media to share their views on the issue.

Kemen, a fitness instructor was disqualified from the #BBNaija for sexually harassing another housemate, Tboss.

According to Ekan Damie, a viewer “for the first time, I actually decided to watch on YouTube to see what warranted eviction since I know immoral acts have always been condoned in the show before now.

“I totally see nothing wrong in what Kemen did based on the values of the show.

“If they allow opposite sex to creep into or share bed, I see no reason why touching is not possible besides the lady in question neither cautioned him or complained to big brother in any diary section.

“And for those questioning my morality, we are talking of an immoral show here not project fame or ultimate search,

“So all of you taking bout Kemen being immoral on big brother please, what else is he to be? a business analyst?

“Silence means consent if TBoss did not show her displeasure in words or in action, the eviction was a huge misconception as d guy did put it, “he said.

Another big brother fan, David Que said “It is now clear to me that this world has really become very decadent.

“How on planet earth can Payporte and BBA expect any individual to have high morals whilst under the influence of alcohol.

“Many have ended up raping woman because of alcohol, many get into fights, many express all the suppressed feelings that have been locked up inside, some sleep in gutters and bare floors.

“Some can’t even ask a woman out until they are intoxicated. Given the same opportunity most will choose differently if they weren’t intoxicated. BB naija is such a waste of valuable time.

Femi Adelaja said; “The organisers are a disgrace and are insincere maggots. How can they be talking about morals when they allow housemates sleep together, where is the morals there?

“Yes, Kemen was creepy, which I am totally against, but if Tboss had real issues with it, they would have just settled it amicably.

“Though I don’t like Kemen, but this was honestly unfair to him. I mean they are adults who can resolve this kind of thing amicably, “another fan said.

Kemen touched TBoss while she was sleeping, causing outrage from Big Brother Naija fans.

Displeased with Kemen’s action, “Biggie” owner of the #BBNaija house noted that the move was not mutual, adding that his action was an infringement of TBoss’ right.

Reacting to Kemen’s action, Payporte, an official sponsor of the reality show, released a statement on social media network, Instagram, condemning the act.

The statement reads: “an official statement from Payporte on the incident between Kemen and TBoss:

“Hello everyone, based on last night’s footage of Kemen making sexual moves on TBoss which sparked a large outrage, we will like to make our stance known on this matter.

“Payporte is strongly against sexual harassment and perversion and we strongly condemn Kemen’s actions.

“We believe individuals whether under influence of alcohol or being sober, should have hive morals.

“We will be taking a decisive action on this. We will be updating you shortly“. The statement added.

Mixed reactions have trailed the eviction of Kemen, who was sent away from the Big Brother Naija house, after he was caught on tape fondling Tboss without her consent.

The show which is hosted by former Big Brother contestant, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, has seen five contestants (Soma, Miyonse, Cocoice, Ese and Jon) evicted from the house.

The show which will run for 11 weeks, is broadcasting live in 45 countries from Nigeria through East, West and Southern Africa on DStv on channel 198 and GOtv channel 29 24/7.

The would-be winner of the reality show will leave the house with N25 million and a brand new Kia Sorento car.

  • BBA: Housemates lose wager again

    BBA: Housemates lose wager again

Housemates in the ongoing Big Brother Africa Hotshots have again lost their wager, for failing to impress Biggie, the voyeur master of the game, who had saddled the two groups with the task of producing silent movies.

Caught completely unawares, housemates simply could not believe nor trust the outcome, even as Nigerian housemate, Tayo insisted over and over again that it just could not be.

They think that Biggie’s inappropriate little sister or perhaps alter ego, was clearly large and in charge and she might just have been too hard to please.

After all their practising with the pianist, the costumes, set, props and their effort it seemed Biggie had left them in the care – or lack of care – of his harsh counterpart. Feeling robbed, fooled and abandoned housemates each skirted around their emotions trying hard to avoid reaching their boiling points.

The silent movies performed by each team were entertaining and housemates did their best to live up to the brief, rehearsing night and day, taking direction from the pianist and finally looking the part.

From what we could tell, team A’s storyline centred around a little boy who was being bullied at school and got into trouble for trying to fit in. Sheillah and Trezagah threw themselves in their roles as the bullies while Ellah was his poor mother, caught in the middle in a bid to protect her son.

Team B’s movie was a love story with Tayo at the centre of what seemed like a love triangle. After courting Goitse she fell head over heels for him. Along the way he met a girl named Samantha and it was like love at first sight – ironically enough. One thing led to the next and Tayo was forced to make a decision and pick one. He picked Samantha and for Goitse this spelled the end, how could she live, if living was without him? Their movie ends tragically with her tying a noose around her neck to kill herself.

Like they did in the old days of silent movies, housemates were to promote Style Up, a proudly Africa hair brand.

But things were different with Biggie’s inappropriate sister, to her all the “over-acting, prancing around and bad singing” amounted to zilch because it simply failed to impress her. In her assessment over the week housemates left a lot to be desired when it came to team work, and there was a lot of snoozing in the background. With their attention focused on squabbling and pushing one another’s buttons, they didn’t give 100 percent effort this week.

  • Kenya out of BBA race

    Kenya out of BBA race

    •Nigeria’s Tayo voted sexiest housemate

With the eviction of Alusa, the only Kenyan housemate left in the Big Brother house during last Sunday’s live show, the road is closed for the east African country in the show. Sabina, his country woman had been evicted previously from the show.

The race is now for left for 12 African countries with some, including Nigeria, having just one housemate left in the competition. Lillian, the Nigerian female housemate was shown the door last week, leaving Tayo, the Oyo State-born model to continue the race.

Evicted alongside Alusa last Sunday was Tanzanian saxophonist, Laveda, who became the sixth female to leave the house.

Laveda made her way to the live stage where she serenaded Africa with her rendition of ‘Africa, thank you’. She felt that people didn’t understand her and spoke about her relationship with Permithias.

Although it was the first time Alusa was being put up for nomination, he became the first male housemate to leave the house.

Show host, IK, kicked off the show by showing viewers how Samantha (South Africa) and M’am Bea (Ghana) had picked up their first ‘strikes’ for contravening Big Brother’s conspiracy rule. They had spoken about their nomination choices earlier in the week, and Big Brother called all the housemates together to remind them of the rules. That sobering moment capped a tough week for the housemates, after they had also lost their 100percent wager – their first failure so far.

Once auditors SizweNtsalubaGobodo had delivered the verified votes to IK, he told viewers that the tie-breaker rule was once again going to have to come into play, as there was a tie in the country votes. Heading into the house, he first asked Head of House Nhlanhla to reveal his ‘add’ decision before revealing the results. The South African told IK that he had based his decision on the housemates’ performance in the Head of House Qualifier task. He felt that Macky2 had put in the least effort because he was confident in himself and his status in the game, so he’d named the Zambian as his ‘add’ choice.

As Alusa made his way to the live stage, he said to IK: “Honestly, I don’t know, I am still in a dream.” As IK showed him the video of his activities in the house, he was most surprised to know that Goitse had nominated him for eviction.

It appears that chances for Nigeria is still bright in the competition, as Tayo, won the sexiest housemate contest, an indication he still has a growing legion of fans, despite being perceived arrogant and loud.

Last week’s question for the Star Meter was, ‘Which housemate is the sexiest?’ for which Tayo got an overwhelming 80 percent vote.

Also, the Nigerian housemate is also free from next week’s eviction, as his group, the Forest Fantasy team, won the last task, with immunity covering all members.

Members of the winning team show their joy by singing the song from their pantomime. The other team did not look quite as happy, but the storeroom was soon opened and the housemates settled in for foods and drinks.

  • BBA Hotshots: No regrets being massaged by Luis, says Lillian Afegbai

BBA Hotshots: No regrets being massaged by Luis, says Lillian Afegbai

A few days after her celebrated eviction from the ongoing Big Brother Africa (BBA) Hotshots, Lilian Afegbai, Nigeria’s female representative, was hosted by MultiChoice Nigeria last Friday at an event tagged “ Homecoming party/ Media reception” in Lagos, where she opened up on her experience in the house, warts and all.

With great composure, the 22-year-old actress and model, who was all smiles during the evening of fun and glitz, said she didn’t have any regrets over all her actions, including the controversial scene, where she was massaged by Namibia’s representative, Luis.

During a brief media interactive session, Afegbai, who entertained the housemates with her twerk moves during her two-week stay in the house, faulted her critics over the widely reported “physical therapy” with Luis, saying she would have done same with any male friend outside the house. “I have no regrets for all I did in the house. I will and can do the same thing outside the BBA house. After I came out, I watched myself while in the house and I was excited. In the real world, I can ask a friend to give me a massage. I had no ulterior motive; I didn’t have anything negative in my mind and it didn’t lead anywhere. When he was giving me that massage, I was relaxed. That is the most important thing. As far as you don’t have any negative thoughts in your mind, you will feel free to go wherever you want and even do whatever you want to do as far as you know what you did was right,” she said.

When asked what she would have done with the $300,000 prize money, Afegbai, also a presenter, said she would have invested it in her talk show, while also expanding her business. “I would have also got a house for myself, so that when my parents and family come, they will have a bigger place to stay, compared to where I live at the moment,” she added.

Like many of her fans, she also disclosed that she received the news of her eviction with shock. In an attempt to explain the seeming riddle surrounding her eviction, she said: “I can’t really tell you what happened because I wasn’t outside. Tayo and I were up for eviction; so, I knew it was going to be hard on you guys out there. When I came out, I found out that Tayo had a lot of nominations than me. Maybe Nigerians just felt they should focus more on Tayo, believing that I wasn’t going anywhere. But I tried my best and tried to represent my country very well.”

Now that she is back to the real world where she will continue to compete for the attention of individuals and corporate organisations as an actress, model and presenter, the question on the lips of many is: won’t her two-week stay in the house, the shortest so far by any Nigerian representative at the BBA, jeopardize her chances in the industry? However, Afegbai, a graduate of Accounting, said the experience would not in any way prevent her from realising her dreams.

“I am in the real world now and I am going to make the best out of it.”

In attendance at the event were Chioma Afe, Marketing Manager, DStv; Caroline Oghuma, PR Manager, DStv and Efe Obiomah, PR Manager, Gotv.

  • BBA: Nigeria’s Lilian, two others evicted

BBA: Nigeria’s Lilian, two others evicted

It was end of the show on Sunday for three more female contestants in the ongoing Big Brother Africa reality show taggedHotshots Edition’, as the dreams of Nigerian model, Lilian, alongside Uganda’s Esther and Kenya’s Sabina were dashed irredeemably .

The three, who were among the nine put up for eviction penultimate week, were said to have scored the lowest votes from participating countries.

The Sunday’s live show brings to five the number of contestants evicted so far from the show, as Zambia’s Resa and Mozambique’s Mira had been previously evicted.

However, it was an exciting moment for Tayo, the Nigerian male contestant, as he escaped eviction from the show. While Tayo got votes from three countries, JJ (Zimbabwe) received votes from five countries and Permithias got votes from two countries. Also, four housemates received one country vote each and two housemates received no country votes.  Consequently, the tie-breaker rule was evoked in order to separate the four housemates who received one country vote each.

IK, who went into the house for the first time, teased Permithias and Idris about their closeness to some ladies in the house, before asking the Head of House, Samantha, to stand and reveal her ‘add’ decision. Samantha revealed that she had based her decision on the strongest member of the winning Extravaganza group, with Ellah as her choice. Then, IK announced that Lilian and Esther, who were the closest to Tayo, would be heading home. It was obvious that Tayo was greatly shocked by Lilian’s eviction, as he rushed to hug her, saying: “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”

IK also revealed the StarMeter results for the week, a measure of the popularity of the housemates based on social media buzz. Tayo topped the viewers’ poll this week.  But hardly had the remaining housemates heaved a sigh of relief than IK took viewers back into the house, saying there would be another eviction. He then revealed Sabina, the comedian from Kenya, as the third housemate to be evicted on the night.

With composure, Samantha said she had connected with Permithias because of his music and his background. She told IK that she was still living in hope that there was a second house for evicted Hotshots, but he confirmed that this eviction was the end of the road for her.

IK later revealed that Team B( where Tayo belongs), had won this week’s Extravaganza task with their traditional Bollywood performance, suggesting that they are immune from nomination this week.

The show featured Kenyan Urban Afro-Pop group Elani, who performed Jana Usiku & Koo Koo before returning later with Zuzu.

  • BBA Hotshots unveils Nigerian contestant

Since last week, organisers of Big Brother Africa reality show have been releasing in batches, the identity of contestants in the show, billed to start airing on October 5.

It came as a teaser, because unlike in the past, Big Brother has been revealing the contestants in a group of three, daily.

The Nigerian Housemate, who was revealed Wednesday, is called Lilian, with the alias, ‘SexyLeeLee’. She described herself as a model, actor, presenter and tax collector.

She claimed to have entered the show because of “the platform it provides and the publicity that comes with it, and of course the winning prize – the money.”

Lillian disclosed that she’s not willing to sell herself short to win the grand prize. If she does win, she’ll invest in her talk show, which is about ‘helping upcoming talents’ and then get herself a house.

The show, which will confine contestants in a house for 91 days is staking USD 300 000 on the would-be winner.

According to Lillian, her favourite delicacy is rice and plantain. She also likes watching Baggage on TV and listening to 2face Idibia. She doesn’t have a favourite book, but likes movies like Think Like A Man, Blended, Friends With Benefits, Bridesmaids and Twelve Years A Slave. Her favourite actor is Angelina Jolie, because ‘she (Angelina Jolie) is creative and can switch roles easily.”

Speaking on the reality show, M-Net Africa Regional Director (West Africa), Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, says viewers are in for almost as many surprises as the housemates. “We work hard to make each season of   Big Brother Africa bigger than the last – and we’ve really upped the ante this year,” she said, adding that, “Big Brother Hotshots is going to bring viewers exciting innovations, heart-stopping twists and uniquely African glamour, 24/7 for the duration of their stay in the house. Both fans and housemates are in for some unmissable television.”

Also Lilian says her favourite place in Nigeria is Lagos, and she says the best thing about Africa is its cultural diversity. Outside her home country, she’d like to visit California for the opportunities she believes it would provide her to improve her career.

Lilian’s role model is Oprah Winfrey, because of her strength, and the person who has most influenced her life is her mother, “because she has always believed in me and encouraged me to follow my dreams.”

She describes herself as ‘spontaneous, easy-going, focused and confident’ and says her best assets are that she’s ambitious, a good listener, flexible, persuasive, competitive, independent and original.

    BBA: Organisers find new venue

    •Announce new launch date

Barely two weeks after a fire outbreak was recorded at the venue of the Big Brother Africa reality TV show, the organisers of the show, M-Net and Endemol, have confirmed that this year’s edition tagged Big Brother Hotshots will officially be launched on Sunday, October 5, having found a new house in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The search, according to the M-Net’s management, was concluded after exploring all possible options, both locally and internationally, for a suitable venue to produce the ninth season of the Africa’s biggest reality show.

It will be recalled that on Tuesday, September 2, the Big Brother house was razed by fire, thereby causing M-Net and Endemol SA to postpone its launch, which had earlier been scheduled for Sunday, September 7.
