    BBNaija: Soma, Miyonse go home

Eviction hammer hits two of the housemates who were nominated for eviction Sunday evening. They are Soma and Miyonse.

But just before announcing the two who had the least number of votes from fans, Biggie played another pranks, which suggested the three were going home. Ebuka had asked them to leave the house, one after another. Efe was the first to be shown the door, followed by Soma and Miyonse. This brought tears to the eyes of, especially the ladies in the house. But they were only meant to gather in the holding room,  from where the real evictees were announced.

    Soma

When Soma joined Ebuka on stage, he said he didn’t expect to leave that early, but guessed it so happened because he was a threat to most of the guys in-house.

He was shown a short clip of his activities in the house, especially his moments on the guitar.

He noted that there was nothing he did in the house that was a game, as he tried as much as possible to ‘keep it real’, including his kiss with Gifty, which he said happened unexpectedly.

All through his interview on stage with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, he was still emotional, fighting back tears.

A Pastor and Musician’s son and a good singer himself, Soma has opened for several high-profile acts. He was inspired by his mom who also encouraged him to pursue a career in Music. He’d started studying at Port Uni but decided to defer his studies and focus on Science when he resumes since he loves gadgets. He’s said to be in a long-distance relationship.

Miyonse, who was so sure of remaining in the house despite his nomination said he is very disappointed to have been evicted.

    Miyonse
    Miyonse

He said the guys nominated him because he was always around TBoss. He disclosed that his association with TBoss begun way before the Big Brother House.

He was eventually told by Ebuka that TBoss was among the guys that nominated him for eviction. As much as he tried to suppress his disappointment, he felt so uneasy, but agreed it was all about the game.

He said there was no problems going back to his girlfriend,  because she gave him her permission to play the game and keep it as real as possible. And as for TBoss, they will always be friends.

The last born in his family, Miyonse took to cooking by chance after his mother made sure that he spent time with her in the kitchen. That quickly led to him cooking for his schoolmates and before he knew it he was in Culinary School and today he’s head chef. He’s been in a relationship with his girlfriend, also a chef, for two months now. He hates being taken for granted.

With nine weeks to go in the reality show, the race for N25 million and a brand new Kia Sorento car continues for the remaining 12 housemates.

    BBNaija: Who goes home tonight

…As Seyi Shay performs at live eviction show

With the clock ticking towards the first real eviction of one or two Housemates in the ongoing Big Brother Naija reality show, scheduled to hold this evening, there have been some uneasy feelings among the Housemates.

Last night’s party and its raunchy aftermath brought the contestants closer like never before, and some of them now wish they did not nominate the others for possible eviction.

Although Port Harcourt boy and music enthusiast, Soma, has shown little emotions about his nomination, just as TBoss’ ‘loverboy’, Miyonse, would not say much to his colleagues about what he thinks his chances might be, two times Head of House (HoH) and funny character, Efe, gave some parting words after being tipsy from last night’s party, just in case he is shown the door in tonight’s eviction. Efe would want them to see themselves as celebrities already for making it to the BBN house out of the thousands that were auditioned for the show. He said he had come to bond with every housemate so much that he forgot they were all in a game to win the N25 million prize money.

Meanwhile, when Biggie invited the trio to the Diary Room in separate chats, they were all optimistic that their fans would vote to keep them in the House.

Igwe Efe was the first Housemate summoned by Biggie, and though he admitted that he was anxious about the possibilities of going home tonight, he was also somewhat confident that he was not going to be evicted tonight.

Miyonse was called in next and he believes he had done enough to save himself from possible eviction tonight. He said he has been himself in the last two weeks and he felt that was enough to keep him in the House for atleast another week.

Soma had almost the same answer for Biggie when asked if he felt confident about his chances of avoiding eviction tonight. He would like to believe he has done enough to guarantee him a stay of eviction, but also admitted that he was a bit apprehensive about his chances of staying on in the Big Brother House.

Last night’s party which was powered by Legend Extra Stout, had DJ Waxxy treating the Housemates to a thrilling collection of old and new Nigerian songs. But that was more like a valedictory gig for whoever will be going home tonight.

For fans of the show who will be glued to their televisions for the much anticipated eviction show this evening, Nigeria’s very own Sheyi Shay will be on stage to thrill the audience with an electrifying performance before the eviction process commences.

  • How BBNaija contestants voted themselves for eviction

How BBNaija contestants voted themselves for eviction

After last Sunday’s twists where two supposed evictees were pardoned and the introduction of two new contestants, tension resumed Monday after three members were put up for possible eviction. They include the likeable Efe, amorous Miyonse and music devotee Soma.
It was the eighth day of the show and Biggie gave each housemate 45 seconds to make their nomination decision, leading to a gloomy feeling afterwards.
Only the two new housemates; Debbie-Rise and Bassey were exempted from nominating and being nominated.
Biggie kicked off the first live nomination show by calling Bally into the Diary Room. And there was no time wasted as Biggie asked Bally to give his two nominations in 45 seconds – same for the 11 other old housemates.
Bally voted out Miyonse and Soma; Bisola voted out Miyonse and Gifty; Kemen voted out Miyonse and Soma; TBoss voted out Miyonse and Gifty; TTT voted out Gifty and Miyonse; Uriel voted out Bisola and TBoss; Miyonse voted out Kemen and Marvis; Marvis voted out Miyonse and Gifty; Soma voted out Kemen and TTT; Gifty voted out CoCoIce and Bisola; Efe voted out Miyonse and TBoss while CoCoIce voted out Miyonse and Soma.

In all, eight housemates nominated Miyonse, including his presumed girlfriend, Tboss. Gifty got four nominations, while Soma ended up being the third housemates with the highest nominations with three nominations.
However, as is the tradition on the show, the Head of House must save one of the three and replace him or her. With the task of ‘save and replace’ rested on CocoIce as Head of House, she saved Gifty and replaced her with Efe.
The decision was shocking to most fans of the show who want Efe to remain in the competition for the prize of N25 million and a brand new Kia Sorento car.

  • Debbie Rise, Bassey join BBN house, as mock eviction heightens emotion

Debbie Rise, Bassey join BBN house, as mock eviction heightens emotion

First runner-up in the third edition of Nigerian Idol, Debbie Rise and an actor, Bassey are the new additions to the Big Brother Naija house.

The two were introduced during a live show anchored by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Sunday.

It was mixed feelings for 10 of the old housemates, who were yet to get over the purported eviction of Marvis and TBoss who unknown to them were lounging in a separate apartment only to return to the main crib.

Feigning convulsion on seeing the exquisite house, Debbie Rise’s slumping entry alarmed the already troubled old housemates, as they tried to administer first aid treatment to this stranger who suddenly ‘came alive’, bursting into laughter.

The twist of additional housemates was Biggie’s idea and one that is meant to add intrigues to the show.

It was a sort of reunion for the former 12 and somewhat new beginning for the now 14 contestants.

Debbie Rise, a self-professed tomboy has been daddy’s little girl. Growing up, she’d help him out often and loved playing sports and staying active. He’s an electrical engineer and she studied Computer Science. Many will remember her as the melanin goddess that came in second on Nigerian Idol. She speaks both Yoruba and Hausa and is still as active as she was when she was young. From football, to dancing, to Taekwondo she’s a bonafide fitness freak with big dreams to take Nollywood by storm and isn’t afraid of being a little spicy and spontaneous.

    Bassey
    Bassey

Bassey on the other hand comes from a large family but sadly lost his mom eight years ago, something he says was a huge low point in his life. He learnt to fend for himself from a young age and later studied Theatre at The University of Calabar with Acting as his major. He’s single and believes professions of love that aren’t backed up by deeds are pointless. He loves interacting with other gifted people.

The 14 are playing for N25 million and a new Kia Sorento car.

Nominations for eviction begins in the new week, but the two new housemates are immuned, just as they are also not allowed to nominate any for possible eviction.

  • BBN PREDICTIONS: TRIPLE T, BISOLA AND T-BOSS, THE LAST THREE TO EXIT THE HOUSE

Pen in hand, decoder set to record, I eagerly awaited Ebuka Obi-Uchendu’s voice as it filled my living room, announcing the start of Big Brother Naija, arguably the most anticipated show on TV at the moment.

One of my favourite things about watching the Big Brother series is guessing who will end up N25 million richer from the launch show. So, after spending only a few minutes with the housemates, these are my predictions as to who will snitch, who has no limits, be homely, win the prize money and become the most successful housemate of the lot.

    Dark chocolate Uriel

    AKA Miss Snitch

TALL, dark and curvy, the England-born Nigerian with the British accent seems like she would make the perfect blend of foreign and local mix. She however, told us straight away that she doesn’t get along too well with the womenfolk. This is bound to be interesting.  If she doesn’t care for the women she will have no problem throwing them under the bus, right?

    ………………………………………………….

    Body building Kemen

    (Mr. Corny)

NEXT, we are introduced to Kemen from Port Harcourt (Rivers State) who somehow sounds like he was born and bred in eastern Nigeria. He must really think he is super attractive because he showed off his abs the first chance he got. Unfortunately for Kemen, his bubble was easily burst the moment Thin Tall Tony walked into the house. Kemen tried to say a quick hello but Triple T, who was immediately distracted by all the beautiful women Biggie has blessed him with for the next three months, did not notice. Leaving Kemen in mid-sentence, the fitness instructor stayed watching TTT intently, probably thinking; “well, there goes my chance with the ladies”. And who would blame him. TTT is smoking hot.

    ………………………………………………….

    Hottie Bally (Mr. Play Boy)

28-year-old Bally hails from Kaduna and has all the makings of a playboy. He seems quiet and looks the sort that may be involved in a few love triangles in the house. He is cute, dark and single – a recipe for trouble when it comes to BBN. An aspiring DJ, we can only hope Biggie gives him a chance to show us his “stuff” during one of the Saturday night wild parties. We will be watching Mr. handsome.

    ………………………………………

Flirty Sexy Triple T (Mr. Good looking)

NOW up to this point, the men in the house were cute but then Thin Tall Tony shows up and the crowd goes wild. Towering over the host at 6ft 7”, Triple T is not only attractive, as a dancer, he is quick on his feet too. Auditioning for several reality shows including Big Brother Africa, Triple T has been craving the spotlight and now it is his time to shine. Talking about himself, Triple T said he doesn’t drink or smoke but admits that he has a thing for women. We certainly can’t wait to see what kind of trouble Triple T is bound to get into with the ladies in the house. He is my pick for the win.

    ……………………………………….

    Audacious Gifty (Miss Diva)

DID I hear you say Diva Alert? Sound the alarm people, a diva just walked in. When it comes to looks, Gifty has been truly blessed and she knows it, admitting that she will be using her pretty face to great advantage in the house, which she began to put to good use seconds after entering the show. When Gifty got into the house, she was immediately surrounded by Uriel and CocoIce who tried to welcome her but before they had the chance to introduce themselves, Gifty sighted Triple T from looking sideways, and exclaimed: “Hi handsome”, excusing herself immediately to give Triple T a warm hug and a kiss on the cheek. Hmm. Love at first sight? We will be watching.

    ………………………………………………….

    Everyone loves Soma

    (Mr. Loverboy)

SINGER and graphic designer, Soma is in a relationship but is ready to mingle as he says “anything can happen”. He is young, cute, and has an Adekunle Gold vibe going on. He appears to be the kind of guy who knows how to please a woman and might just make for an interesting time in the house.

    ………………………………………………….

    Bisola the Clown

YOU will remember her from the web series Skinny Girl in Transit. She plays Didi, funny colleague and friend to the leading actor, Tiwa. Now I’m already a huge Bisola fan and even follow her on Instagram. When I saw her walk out as a housemate, I was conflicted. First off, I initially thought “isn’t she already a star? How can this be a fair selection?” I mean Bisola already has a following of over 48,000 people on Instagram alone and she is a pretty well-known actor. Whatever the reason she was selected, I already knew she had my vote but even as I made that resolve, I cringed remembering the late Goldie and her stint on BBA. I was a huge fan of Goldie until she got on the show and displayed a side of her no one knew existed. An over-emotional, somewhat unstable side, which led to her untimely eviction. Sigh! Here’s hoping the same won’t happen with Bisola. Her fun personality will however see her make the top three.

    ………………………………………………….

    Chef Miyonse

    (Mr. Cool)

HE is the young chef with a gorgeous name who plans on winning the hearts of his housemates with good local and intercontinental dishes. He is in a relationship but swears he has permission from his girlfriend to play the game whatever it may cost. Cool, calm and handsome, Miyonse will play the game hard and get evicted for conniving and causing strife.

    ………………………………………

    CocoIce (Lil Mis Desperate)

IS it just me or did something seem a little too desperate about CocoIce? An aspiring rapper, she turned on the dramatics once ushered into the house as she couldn’t stop yelling “thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus.” At a point, it almost seemed like she would fall to the ground and give it a little kiss as she continually admired the house. What was incredibly obvious as we were introduced to CocoIce is her “h” problem. “This AOUSE is like a dream come through”. Why replace the H with A now, CocoIce?

    …………………………………………..

T-Boss for the men (Eye Candy)

NOW that’s how to make an entrance. The 22-year-old tattoo addict walked on stage dressed in a black floor-length sequined gown that caught the light at beautiful angles when she moved. She looked like a celebrity and I instantly took a liking to her. She does look like trouble though but of the subtle kind. The kind that will calmly stab a “friend” in the back while smiling sweetly to their faces.  With a skill like that, I presume T-Boss will be going home as the first runner up.

    …………………………………………….

    Warri’s Efe

HE may not be the best looking one in the house but he does have an attractive personality if fun and crazy is your thing. He didn’t waste his time with Ebuka as he began to drop some free style lines to promote his music career. Could he win the show? Probably not but he does strike me as someone who will make good use of his time in the house.

    ………………………………………

    Crazy Haired Marvis (Miss Goody-two-shoes)

NOW, aside from the fact that she is the 11th child of 21 children and has a body to die for, we really didn’t find anything vaguely interesting about the Mass Communication graduate. But don’t be fooled. If Big Brother Africa has taught us anything, it is that a pretty face and a boring personality are good enough to make you a winner. If in doubt, ask Wendall from BBA Amplified.

BBN: Why I chose to be a chef, by housemate

•As Efe is crowned Head of House

For announcing his flair for cooking at last Sunday’s launch of lifestyle reality show, Big Brother Naija, Miyonse Amosu Oluwaseyi, a Mass Communication graduate from University of Lagos, caught the attention of many who wanted to see how his chosen profession will play out in the house.

Miyonse’s chosen career became the subject of discussion when, on Monday, housemates decided to share their personal experiences after dinner. They all talked about growing up, work, career path as well as family.

Miyonse was asked why he chose to be a chef and how it is different from being a caterer. He spoke about how he knew he wouldn’t get fulfillment from a nine-to-five job, which was why he confided in his sister about attending a culinary school with particular interest in Chinese cuisine.

‘I have always had interest in Chinese cuisine and when I shared it with my siblings, they laughed and wondered what I wanted to achieve by being a cook, which was looked at as a girl’s job,’ Miyonse said. He however, kept at it even after the first culinary school he registered in got burnt the very day he was to resume. With support from his elder sister, he persevered and registered with another culinary school. Today, he is a chef and not a caterer and the money is certainly not bad. ‘Wetin you come dey do here’ quipped TallThinTony, a statement which elicited laughter across the room.

Miyonse explains that a caterer is proficient in Nigerian dishes and prepares a variety of dishes for an occasion but a Chef has culinary skills which transcends Nigerian dishes and makes a full course meal plan before he begins cooking. From being a Sous Chef, he is today the Head Chef where he works in Abuja.

Bisola, the actress, talked about her days in boarding school and how she didn’t even have exercise books to do her school work. Her story was however, cut short when housemates moved to the garden lawn to work out after which Tripple T (TallThinTony) led them in salsa dance lessons.

Day one in the Big Brother house was very exciting with lots of drama as Efe was crowned the Head of House.

There is more drama to come as Big Brother is giving tricky tasks to the housemates.

Biggie, as he is fondly called, has instructed HOH Efe and the other housemates that anyone who wants to dethrone the current HoH can do so; but he warns that this coup can only be performed with guile and cunning. The HoH can take off his royal ornaments, but he should keep them locked up in the royal box. Losing the key to this box will mean that whoever has the keys, and opens the box will automatically become the new HoH.

Fans of the show await how this plays out, knowing the other housemates will be secretly scheming to become HoH, if only for the immunity of being evicted by this Sunday.

Unknown to them, instead of an eviction this Sunday, Biggie’s plan is to have two additional housemates join the competition.

The dairy sessions shall unwittingly unveil what strategies the housemates may have to guarantee they end up as the last man or woman standing.

Video entertainment provider, MultiChoice Nigeria, has explained its decision for filming the ongoing Big Brother Naija reality show in South Africa. A statement issued by the company said the decision was informed by the desire to deliver the same high quality production that its subscribers are accustomed to on its platforms.
“It is with this commitment in mind that a decision was taken to stage the show in the fully-equipped Big Brother House located in South Africa. This Big Brother property has been previously used to stage other successful and seamlessly-delivered Big Brother productions, including Big Brother Xtremo (for Angola and Mozambique) as well as all past Big Brother Africa series,” MultiChoice said in the statement.
The statement added that both MultiChoice and its customers are currently experiencing tough economic times, which have compelled the company, as a business, to review its operations so it can continue to deliver the best entertainment value without compromising on quality. “Staging the show in a Big Brother facility that already exists – and has been specially built for such purposes is not only cost-effective but has also allowed MultiChoice Nigeria to maintain the same excellent production values as with previous Big Brother editions whilst meeting tight timelines,” the company explained further.
The company assured that the ongoing Big Brother Nigeria is a proudly Nigerian show featuring Nigerians as housemates, in the production staff, as Biggie’s voice, all led by a Nigerian series director.  It equally stated that the musical performances on the show, which runs for 11 weeks, also include some of Nigeria’s biggest and hottest stars.
“ MultiChoice is a proud supporter and investor of local creative industries and currently has ongoing entertainment productions across the continent, including the much-loved Tinsel and upcoming AMVCAs which are filmed and produced in Nigeria and aired in several countries across Africa,” the statement concluded.

  • Series Director chides critics of BBN location

Series Director chides critics of BBN location

…Says it is cheaper and technically safe to record in S/A

Series Director of the ongoing Big Brother Naija and Head of Post Production in the first Project Fame reality show in Nigeria,  Gbenga Kayode, has reacted to criticisms bothering on why the show is being recorded in South Africa.

Kayode joins debate on the social media for which many are of the opinion that it makes the show less Nigerian because it is being recorded outside the country.

“Why are people angry?” he asked, positing that “filmmaking and television production is strictly a business. And as a content maker, you have the freedom to make your content where ever you choose based on whatever factor affects you.”

Kayode who further stated that it is cheaper to do the show in South Africa than in Nigeria gives reasons why this is so.

“The broadcast is 24 hours and seven days a week. Broadcast from the house to satellite up link. All the facilities connected must have uninterrupted electricity for 78 days,” he said, recalling how those who worked on the first edition of the show in Nigeria had several power generating sets outside the house and, even though it was sponsored by a power generating set company, they still had problems.

He said this is coupled with the price of diesel and possibility of fuel scarcity at any given time due to union strike. “The cost of renting a space, rigging the space… I can’t even go into details in this forum but yes, filming in Nigeria would have been far more expensive,”he said.

For Kayode,  “even Hollywood shoots in Canada, Australia, Ireland or wherever the production company prefers.”

The Director who spoke to The Nation in Johannesburg, on Saturday, stated that the show is hundred percent Nigerian show irrespective of where it is being recorded.

“The housemates are told to be Nigerian. So, they can speak pidgin and other Nigerian languages and there are people in the house who understand.”

He said the organisers try to hide the identity of Nigerians on the project to prevent a situation whereby someone would think they could influence activities on the show.

“Even the head of content on the project is a Nigerian and there are no less than 10 Nigerians on the content team. And that’s just for content. The people who supply the food etc are all Nigerians.”

In a statement,  Caroline Oghuma,PR Manager, DStv, said by recording in South Africa, they are able to achieve high production values whilst meeting tight timelines.

“‎We have a fully equipped house in South Africa which is used for the Big Brother shows. The house has played host to other Big Brother countries including; the general Big Brother Africa, Mozambique, Angola and now Nigeria. This means that we are able to achieve high production values whilst meeting tight timelines and ensuring the show comes to our viewers on time, as planned, and with the same globally renowned quality.”
