    Beauty pageant unveils queen

    A beauty pageant, Miss Hotlegs Nigeria, has unveiled its title holders for 2024/25.

    They were unveiled at a private and exclusive crowning ceremony put together by Miss Hotlegs Nigeria Organisation.

    Despite the private setting, the ceremony marked a milestone in the Miss Hotlegs journey, ushering in a new chapter for the crowned queens.

    Millicent Obi, a passionate advocate of social inclusion from Imo State, Nigeria, was crowned Miss Hotlegs Nigeria. 

    According to the pageant organiser, Mosy Oginni, the low-key event, conducted without public attendance, was a reflection of the organisation’s refined approach for this year’s edition.

    “The private unveiling spells the beginning of their reign, representing the Miss Hotlegs brand in various initiatives that promote confidence, creativity, and empowerment among women across Nigeria. It focused on substance, impact, and authenticity over spectacle. The “2024/25 queens will serve as inspiration for young ladies and girls,” Oginni said.

    The beauty queen, who is a final year student of university of Abuja, stood out for her carriage, poise and strong sense of purpose. Obi ‘s voice for advocacy against gender-based violence for adolescents and young people melted hearts.

    Speaking on her journey to the throne and her dream for the future as queen, Miss Obi, who was the first runner-up in Miss HotLegs Nigeria 2023, said: “My journey into the worlds of advocacy and pageantry started at a young age, and I have been actively involved in these fields for several years. My experiences fueled my commitment to development and impact, aiming to create a beautiful world for future generations. Emerging as the first runner-up in the Miss HotLegs Nigeria 2023 provided me with a broader platform to engage with stakeholders and address social issues; and prepared me for this year’s competition. It further amplified my voice. Hence, I am abreast with what my multifaceted role as a beauty queen entails.

  • Anogwi’s beauty pageant for housewives

    This is an exciting time for married women in Nigeria who can now contest in a beauty pageant and go home with top prizes.

    Organisers of Mrs Nigeria Beauty Queen contest, the Pageants Nigeria Limited, has announced November as the date for the 2019 edition.

    With the theme, “I Create Awareness to Reduce Exposure,” the contest, according to the National Director, Mrs. Sarah Anogwi, is uniquely designed for responsible women in Nigeria.

    She insisted that Mrs. Nigeria was a value-driven platform aimed at creating awareness on the ills of domestic violence against women and children, empowering them to be more productive as well as causing positive changes in their communities.

    Anogwi also explained that the fulcrum of the theme for this year’s edition was to empower women and encourage them to be better wives as well as mothers.

    She added, “It is also a non-bikini beauty pageant for married women, which promotes our diverse cultural values. We use this event to engage the winners as advocates of women and children’s rights anywhere they go. We empower them to deliver on these obligations.”

    The winner would represent Nigeria in this year’s Mrs Universe world contest in China from December 22 to January 1, 2020.

    The previous winners of Mrs Nigeria 2017 and 2018 had represented the country at the Mrs Universe world finals held in South Africa and the Philippines respectively.

  • Silverbird Group set to hold 2019 edition of MBGN pageant

    Silverbird Group will soon unveil some young beautiful women with potential that will promote  the image of Nigeria positively within and outside the country.

    The Vice President of Silverbird Group, Guy Murray-Bruce, said this on Thursday during a press conference in Lagos ahead of the forthcoming 32nd Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, (MBGN) contest.

    Murray-Bruce who is also the Special Adviser on Tourism Development and Entertainment to the Bayelsa State governor said that the contest would also boost the image of women.

    He said that the 32nd edition of the beauty pageant with the theme: “Every Woman”, would unravel the potential of the under-appreciated Nigerian women.

    “Every woman is a potential mother, wife with unpaid responsibilities in addition to her professional role as a career woman.

    “This contest will pay tribute to their multi-tasking roles,” he said.

    He said that the 2019 edition was open to any beautiful Nigerian girl, home and abroad, from 18 years old to 23 years.

    He said that such most possess a minimum of secondary school certificate.

    “Every eligible Nigerian girl wishing to contest will purchase a form for N10,000 at any Silverbird office or through online at: ” Silverbirdmbgn.com” before May 30.

    “There will be screenings to select the 37 finalists in Enugu, Owerri, Yenagoa, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Ghana and Lagos.

    “The grand finale will hold on Sept. 20 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, where the overall winner will go home with a brand new car.

    “She will also have the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the Miss World beauty pageant.

    “Also, the first runner-up will represent Nigeria in the Miss Universe pageant,” he said.

    He said that the 2019 edition would be supported by the Bayelsa State Government, in conjunction with Silverbird Groups, Bozac Group, as well as Occasions and Events.

    He added that the MBGN, being the longest existing beauty pageant, had produced seven queens at some of the past international contests.

    NAN reports that the MBGN is a pageant organised by Ben Murray-Bruce of Silverbird Group with the main purpose of sending representatives to international competitions.

    The pageant was formerly known as Miss Universe.

    The MBGN produced Agbani Darego as the first black African Miss World in 2001.

    The incumbent queen, Anita Ukah, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that she had been visiting schools with her healthcare project.

    She said that she had also been involved in the renovations of some schools’ physical structures.

    “I have carried out medical awareness tours in Lagos and Bayelsa, especially, among school children as I hold education very dear to my heart,” she said.

    Also speaking, Mr Nigeria, Nelson Enwerem, who would be representing Nigeria in the Philippines, said the contest was a good way of empowering the youth. NAN)

     

  • 30 contestants selected for Queen Moremi Beauty Pageant

    Thirty contestants have been selected out of 400 ladies, who applied to contest in the 2018 edition of the Queen Moremi Ajasoro Beauty Pageant, the organisers announced on Tuesday.

    Cultural Ambassador to the project, Princess Ronke Ademiluyi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the contestants were selected after a two-day screening, held at Ile Ife in Osun.

    She said that the contestants, who must be Yoruba undergraduates, within the ages of 18 to 25 years, were selected by a team of panelists, including culture icons, Woli Arole and Odunlade Adekola.

    Ademiluyi said that the contest, initiated by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi Adeyeye, was aimed at promoting Yoruba culture among young women.

    “The contest showcases our culture, which is really important to His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, it encourages young ladies to discover and learn about their culture.

    “The initiative about the queen is to project leadership roles in the future of our young girls as Queen Moremi Ajasoro did during her life time.

    “The contest showcases the strength of a woman, dating back to thousands of years, in encouraging young ladies to be selfless and committed to nation building.”

    The culture entrepreneur said that the contest, which started in 2016, commenced its third edition this year with a 10-day camping at Ile Ife.

    “The contest this year commenced in Ile Ife and the grand finale will be held in Abeokuta in Ogun State.

    “The rationale for Abeokuta is to rotate hosting of the cultural event in different Yoruba states every year. In 2016, it was held in Ife. In 2017, it was held in Lagos and the 2018 edition will be held in Abeokuta.”

    According to Ademiluyi, the choice of Ogun is because of the interest of the wife of the Governor of Ogun, Mrs c, who supports the Ooni of Ife, in promoting Yoruba culture.

    Ademiluyi said that the winner of the contest would go home with a brand new car to be provided by the Ife monarch.

    “There is also a cash prize from the QMA Impact Investment Fund. In addition, the winner automatically becomes a young culture ambassador to the Ooni and the House of Oduduwa.

    “She will also enjoy the privilege of becoming a part of the royal entourage for foreign trips,” the project ambassador stated.

    Ademiluyi recalled that the winner of the maiden edition, Miss Blessing Animashaun, was in the royal entourage to UK last year, while the winner in 2017, joined the royal team to Brazil and the U.S. earlier this year.

    Out-going Queen, Miss Shola Shittu, who graduated with a first class degree in automobile engineering, won various awards during her reign.

    Shittu championed the fight against trafficking of young ladies and made tours to various schools, offering scholarships to indigent students in Lagos communities.

    THE beauty pageant, Miss Mama Africa will on July 28, 2018, return to StarTimes on the exclusive ST Sino Drama channel. In its third edition, the show which holds in China, symbolizes Africa’s diversity and will have African women living across China and contestants from Cameroon, Kenya, Mauritius or Benin to compete for the 2018 Miss Mama Africa Pageant.

    All set for Miss Africa beauty pageant

    Riding on the success of the annual Calabar Carnival, the Cross River State Government is coming up with a new addition, Miss Africa Beauty pageant. Making the announcement on Sunday at a press conference held at Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos last Sunday, Mr Ken Aklah, Special Adviser to the Cross River State Governor on Events, said that the pageant will be holding on the 26th of this month as a precursor to the globally recognised Calabar Carnival.

    Aklah said that the Miss Africa Beauty Pageant was conceptualised as an event that will sell the theme of climate change to the world.

    “We introduced the Miss Africa Beauty Pageant to be able to crown the Queen of Africa who will represent the continent from the Cross River perspective to say to the world that the State is standing tall in the drive and promotion of climate change, sustainable environment,” he said.

    According to him, 30 countries have already plugged in to the vision and their queens will be arriving the city of Calabar on the 15th of this month. The auditions have been done by the managers of the face of Africa who will also be managing the event.

    Shedding more light on the event, the Chairman of the Calabar Carnival committee, Gabe Onah, said that this year, the carnival will be bigger, bolder and better.

    “We’ve segmented the carnival into the four different weeks. The opening week will see the Christmas Village, and the city walk that will campaign against HIV/AIDS. The second week will be the sports week. The third week will be the family week while the fourth week will be the power week, where we will have the bikers’ parade and the candle light sing along. This year, the governor has decided to add the food festival. The culinary art of our people is being brought to the fore,” he said.

    The Miss Africa show will be hosted by Juliet Ibrahim and IK Osakioduwa while artistes like Tckno, Kiss Daniels, Victoria Kimani, Di’Ja, Yemi Sax, Big Dady, Real P, and a host of others.

     

  • ALL SET FOR ESTHER BEAUTY PAGEANT FINALE

    WITH the maiden edition of Esther Beauty Pageant, a Christian pageant aimed at upholding Christian values, in full swing, organisers have said that they are putting things in place for a grand finale. The pageant recently held the Western Zone edition to pick four contestants that would represent the zone in the finals. The next stage of the competition, according to the organisers, is to hold similar pageant in other designated zones to pick winners that would compete in the grand finale.

    Speaking on the idea of a Christian pageant, Mrs. Esther Esevohare of Sonak Communications, said beauty pageant was Biblical as it started from Queen Esther in the Bible.

    “I am not trying to condemn people, but what started as a good thing, we now changed it. In beauty pageant, the Bible said Esther was modest, Esther had good character, but in the beauty pageant these days, contestants exposed their bodies. We now want to change it back to the old values. In the Esther beauty pageant you must be beautiful in character and everything. You must have morals. We want a queen that will not compromise, that for one billion naira, you will not open your pant for any man, that you will not bring a car for her and say if you want this car, come and settle,” she said.

    She revealed that the finalists we be attached to women with good moral standards.  “For one week we are going to be in the same house, and I know by the grace of God, God will give us the right queen. We have been praying towards it,” she added.

    The first prize is N2.5M with a car, a trip to Israel and a one year wardrobe allowance.

    BoI partners Daily Times on Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant

    In continuation of its support for the Showbiz industry, the Bank of Industry, BoI, is partnering Daily Times of Nigeria on the forthcoming Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant, taking place on November 7, at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos.

    To this end, Managing Director of the Bank, Mr. Rasheed Olaoluwa has inaugurated a three-man panel for the 39th edition of the show.

    The panel which will be implementing BoI’s partnership with Daily Times includes Mrs Betsy Obaseki, Managing Director, BOI Investment and Trust Company; Mrs Cynthia Nwuka, Group Head, Creative Industry and Ms Marian-Francis Hart, Head, Customer Care Department.

    The group, according to a statement from the Bank, is conducting a business plan competition to be entered for by the short-listed contestants at the boot camp, in Lagos, between 2nd and 3rd November, 2015.

    The contestants are coached on Monday, 2nd November on how to articulate and prepare a business plan. During the session, the participants were guided by the list of the 35 SME clusters that BOI is paying priority attention to. Using the format of the Graduate Entrepreneurship Fund application form, the contestants began submitting summaries of their business ideas online on Monday evening.

    The project is part of the Bank’s offering of a single digit loan for the creative industry.

    The entries were screened overnight by the panel while the contestants later on, defended their entries during an interactive session with the panelists on Tuesday, with a view to selecting the best bankable business idea that would be financed by BOI from its own funding lines or any applicable matching/managed fund.

    The Bank’s MD is expected to make a presentation to the eventual winner of the business idea on Saturday evening, during the Grand Finale of Miss Nigeria 2015 at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos.

    LONDON-BASED lawyer, Emmanuel Adebisi Osungboun’s name may not ring a bell in his homeland. But in the United Kingdom where he is based, he is a household personality endowed with magic hands that make things happen.

    The CEO of Aries Entertainment and Promotions, which seeks to honour Nigerians and Africans who have distinguished themselves in business, politics, community development and humanitarian endeavours on the platform of Aries International Awards, Osungboun is presently cooking something new.

    In the next few weeks, his company would hold the Aries International Beauty Pageant, which he said is being packaged by a team of international production specialists with extensive knowledge of the Nigerian beauty pageant industry.

    Besides the mouth-watering prizes and consolation gifts that the winner and other participants would walk away with, the overall winner, apart from becoming the proud owner of a brand new Kia car and a monthly wardrobe allowance for a year, would also be designated as the official ambassador of the Aries International Charity Foundation, representing Aries at official events and undertaking projects in rural communities.

    Osungboun is currently in Nigeria to put finishing touches to the show.
