BBNaija: Of partners in chain and strange bedfellows

There was a little stir in the Big Brother Naija house when, after noticing that the housemates were becoming too comfortable with their strategic partners, Biggie decided to reallocate each man to another woman just for 24 hours. This came with a system whereby the new pairs were chained together, thereby eliciting new friendship, albeit unpleasant to some. But the style has yielded result, as new bondings have been formed while more revelations about housemates’ dispositions to one another have been shared.

Particularly interesting was separating Tobi from Cee-C, and one could tell she was not comfortable seeing him chained to Bambam. As much as Lolu, her partner in chain tried to engage her, she was all starring in the direction of Tobi and Bambam.

It appears that despite their pleasant chat all evening, even Tobi found Bambam a kind of strange bed fellow, as he was seen tossing and turning in bed. And for Cee-C who had never declared his true feeling for Tobi, she admitted liking him, just as she told Lolu of how much she misses her boyfriend outside the house.

While Tolu could be said to be a bit lost without Anto, his strategic partner, Bambam and Teddy A seemed unperturbed by the temporary change despite being fond of each other. Teddy A seemed cool with Alex just as Bambam was with Tobi.

Within the short time, Cee-C has extended her controversy to Lolu, hitting his genital area with the leash used in binding them. It all started when Khloe, the Head of House called the housemates for a meeting, Lolu asked Cee C to wait for him to wash his plate, but she refused and he had to follopw her. After the meeting, he wanted to go and continue with the washing, but she declined again, saying that she wanted to sit down. She started pulling the elastic belt until it disengaged, hitting Lolu around the nether regions.

Fans of the show have been calling for the disqualification of Cee-C for her action.

They reason that she has been so rude and uncooperative in her dealings. The 24-hour pairing only brought out the ‘devil’ in Cee-C with whom Lolu had not been so acquainted. A disagreement ensued between them earlier when, during breakfast, Cee C wanted to get her belt while Lolu was eating. He asked her to wait for him finish eating, but Cee-C got angry and shouted at him, saying she wanted to go get her belt. Lolu asked her to apologize for shouting at him but she rebuffed him. She later said, ”I am sorry, but I’m not wrong,” but Lolu refused to accept the apology until agree that she was wrong.

She then unhooked herself to get the belt and returned to hook herself back to Lolu.

Obasanjo’s Coalition strange bedfellows, says ADP

The Action Democra-tic Party (ADP) has described the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) championed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a gathering of strange bedfellows.

Its national chairman, Engr. Yabagi Sani, in a statement by the Director of Media, Kayode Jacobs, pointed that the ADP shares the same ideas with CNM.

Sani said it was commendable promoters of CNM and Nigerians have woken up to the realisation the current administration must give way.

He however cautioned instead of promoting the gathering of strange bedfellows or lining up a rag tag political groupings, Nigerians should embrace the ADP.

The party, according to him, is a platform with structure, resources and commitment to take back the country and put it on track.

Sani urged Nigerians to look well and not just jump at reactionary coalitions springing up.

“This is the mistake we made in 2015 with APC. It must never happen again. Enough of the vicious circle of unending transition from autocratic governance to true democracy.

“We must be careful as some of the promoters of the coalition are yet to articulate their vision, mission and operational mode when we have only a few months to the general election.

“Some of the leaders of the so- called third force are still strong members of APC and not ready to relinquish it.

“Is it right or truly workable to define a new agenda from a collapsing force?

“The character of the leadership of the coalition and the hidden agenda of their patrons may render whatever the third force is doing suspect.

“The way to go is to team up with the only  credible alternative , ADP, a party on ground with character, people owned and all inclusive.”

  • Strange bedfellows

THE romantic landscape is exciting when you fall in love with someone who shares your dreams and aspirations. In this situation, you are bound to think alike, dream alike and have emotional goals that are interesting and exciting. Unfortunately, this is not usually the case with many, and so the emotional environment is frustrating and unexciting. Here, what you have are strange emotional bedfellows plotting coups and counter coups which ultimately brings tales of sorrow and tears.

The big question here is would you voluntarily hop into a cage with an angry tiger only to wonder how you got stuck with the beast? No, you don’t really have to go through this kind of agony. If you do this then you did it by choice. At that point, you are likely to think that you could do something to calm this beast. If you find yourself in this unfortunate state, then it is better to get out before you get hurt.

This scenario explains what a lot of us do when we go into relationships with strange bedfellows. Usually, we set ourselves up for rejection and pain, then insist that it should not be happening or that we can change the other person. Unfortunately, some people repeat this pattern for a lifetime. Seeking the approval of negative people can be an emotional addiction. It approaches insanity in many cases.

‘While all deception requires secrecy, all secrecy is not meant to deceive’.

This quote by Sissela Bok tells us that a heart that is filled with deception must have lots of secrets, do unusual things and plan desperately Secrets that such a person would never want to be uncovered. You can be sure that all hell would be let loose if anyone they are shielding the secrets from attempts to open the can of emotional worms.

If the person you love and cherish is willing to make some sacrifice and work on repairing your relationship, then there is a chance that your problems are fixable. But if the strings are very weak, then there is nothing you can really do about it. Perhaps, it may also be the turning point that you have been craving for all your life. It could just be the end of the stress relationship that you have been struggling with all your life.

Even those with a heart of stone would feel bad when they are taken for granted on the emotional landscape. “My husband of about 12 years is having an affair with a woman he met on flight.” Sadly, she found out a few weeks ago when he inadvertently left an email message open on his laptop. “Of course, I know that cheating is part and parcel of the love process. The truth of the matter is that it is not written on people’s faces but after a while whatever is done under wraps would come out in the open.”

When you live with someone for a while, then you are likely to notice when they are going astray. Here, you would notice some changes in their habits and it’s possible that they would begin to do the things that they were not doing in the past. In this particular case, he discovered that her phone records confirm daily long-distance conversations, change in dress code and a more fanciful hairstyle.

Did she really smell a rat? “Of course, I sensed that they have never met personally but they were desperately planning to meet in a couple of weeks at a wedding. Despite problems in our marriage, neither of us has strayed, and I’m confident he doesn’t want to lose me nor do I want to lose him.”

So, what strategy would be appropriate in this cat and mouse love drama.  “My dilemma is whether to tell him that I know what’s going on prior to his trip, or confront him when he returns with pictures taken by a private investigator. It is so sad and I just can’t let this betrayal continue.”

Folake has been single for five years. The pretty woman recently reconnected with a man she lost contact with 13 years ago. “It was like a dream come true. We went out a few times and it was wonderful, and, like every other lady who had been starved of emotions for so long, I began to fall helplessly in love with the dude. Somehow, the curious part of life got stronger and something advised me to verify everything to be double sure.”

She cross checked every information he gave her about himself painstakingly, hoping to get lots of affirmation in his direction. “To my amazement, all the beautiful details that I was holding onto were all lies. What a pity! It would have been suicidal if I had just folded my arms and fallen sheepishly in love with the emotional liar. Tears and more tears with no one to console yours faithfully. The truth was so bitter; I had no choice but to keep it sadly to my chest for a while. Then gradually I realised that I had to open up to have some inner peace and satisfaction.”

Now it was time to hear from the horse’s mouth. Perhaps he would be sober and be remorseful. “When I confronted him, he was furious and accused me of not trusting him. Now he doesn’t want anything to do with me. I’m heartbroken. I loved him years ago and thought this was for real. At a point, I felt guilty for not trusting him, even though I knew that he hasn’t been honest with me.”

  • Afenifere’s strange bedfellows

    Afenifere’s strange bedfellows

SIR: I was alarmed but later bemused when I read about Afenifere’s press conference in the media recently. Seated with Afenifere’s chieftains were Senator Iyiola Omisore and Yinka Odumakin. Odumakin was the spokesperson of the group of the group that broke away from Afenifere. What then has happened to honour?

Afenifere was established in 1951 by the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and his associates. Since then, it remained the rallying point for the progressives in the South-west. Since 1999 when the current democratic dispensation took its root, things took a new dimension with real disciples of Awolowo trying to align themselves together to pursue the authentic Awo’s vision in governance.

It was during this process that Senator Omisore came to the fold, especially when the Alliance for Democracy (AD) was being formed and he became deputy governor of Osun State.

Due to obvious differences and discordant tune of the political music at that time, it was clear to all that Omisore did not belong to the fold. Things began to fall apart in the party and in the leadership of the Osun State government leading to his impeachment as Deputy Governor. Since then, Omisore has left the AD to pitch his tent with the PDP. His party deployed all resources at its disposal to fight Awo’s once united political family with intent of total annihilation. This culminated in the gruesome murder of Chief Bola Ige and the annihilation of the AD in the South-west with Bola Tinubu of Lagos State the only man standing.

Afenifere has since unravelled and the various leaders have joined different political parties. While some are still in the ACN, some have joined PDP while many of them are with Labour Party. It is curious therefore to see Omisore nesting comfortably with Afenifere. Has Afenifere become Afenifere-PDP? Let them tell us so that we can know where they stand. What they are up to and what scheme they may be plotting is yet to be known but Omisore has his eyes on Osun State governorship election next year. Are they Omisore’s friends and part of his campaign group? Time will tell.

Omisore had surreptitiously crept into the rank of the Afenifere group again the way he did in 1999. One wonders why the group allowed its ranks to be broken and became so vulnerable to open its doors to another era of political terrorism that characterized Omisore‘s earlier romance with the group in 1999. We know that the group has suffered very serious infiltration from the opposition which has led to its being factionalised.

It is nevertheless a suicide mission for these factions to allow further balkanization by allowing Omisore into its fold. This romance obviously is like a political cancer that should not be allowed to fester. Anything to the contrary can only constitute a death sentence to the peace and tranquility being enjoyed in the region.
