Skincare firm Beiersdorf supports paediatric cancer with N16m donation

Beiersdorf Nigeria, global manufacturer of skincare brand, NIVEA, has reaffirmed that social responsibility is central to its brand ethos, Care Beyond Skin. The company last week donated N16,456,500 to The Dorcas Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organisation supporting paediatric cancer survivors in Nigeria.

This amount was raised through in-store activations conducted from September to November in five retail chains. For every NIVEA product sold during this period, N300 was set aside for donation. In collaboration with The Dorcas Cancer Foundation, Beiersdorf Nigeria established a Back-to-School Fund to help children, who have survived cancer, return to education. The fund covers tuition, uniforms, books, and other essential school expenses, with this year’s goal to support 15 children in three academic terms.

Country Manager, Oladele Adeyole, said the company is committed to being a positive force n the community. He explained that the company’s Sustainability Agenda, called Care Beyond Skin, reflects its dedication to fostering social and environmental progress, creating a more inclusive society, and generating a positive environmental impact.

“The partnership with The Dorcas Cancer Foundation is one way we impact lives in the markets where we operate. We believe this donation will help child cancer survivors return to school,” Adeyole said.

He noted that due to the financial strain of treatment, many children miss school during their battle with cancer and often struggle to return afterwards.

“We care for people’s skin, but beyond that, we care for the community, especially the underprivileged. That’s what led to this partnership. The Dorcas Cancer Foundation has been doing incredible work to improve childhood cancer survival rates in Nigeria, and we are proud to support their efforts,” he added.

Adeyole hailed Beiersdorf Nigeria’s trade partners for their support. “This journey is not just about The Dorcas Cancer Foundation. We partnered trade partners like Justrite, whose chairman was particularly proud of our initiative and offered open access to their stores. Others, including Shoprite, Market Square, Next Cash & Carry, and HyperCity, were also significant in this mission.”

Dr Adedayo Joseph, Paediatric Oncologist and founder of The Dorcas Cancer Foundation, thanked Beiersdorf Nigeria for the partnership. “Thank you for seeing our vision and choosing to invest in it.

‘‘This support is an incredible gift to the families who will benefit. We are deeply grateful to everyone involved,” she said.
