BBNaija’s Saskay pursues Master’s degree in Belgium

Reality TV star Saskay has gained admission to study for a Master’s degree in Global Security and Strategy at Brussels School of Governance.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Saskay said after a five-year wait, she’s finally embarking on this new chapter, made possible by a scholarship.

Detailing her experience, she said her journey was marked by moments of doubt and frustration, but found strength in her faith and credits her success to divine timing.

She expressed gratitude to loved ones, including her sisters and friends, for their unwavering support.

As she begins her program, Saskay said she feels both excited and overwhelmed, diving back into the international arena after being out of touch.

She wrote: “”When the time is right, I the Lord, will make it happen” (Isiah 60:22b) and he did! I waited 5 years for this opportunity and even almost gave up last year by registering to study a random course I wasn’t half as passionate about. There were times I cried myself to sleep because I wanted more and I just wanted to go to school. But this year was the year! From gaining admission, to scholarship and the hectic visa process, it was all destined.

“I came across people I believe God sent to just assist me through it all. I remember going for Thanksgiving in church before I even got admission cause I recently learned to give thanks even before my blessings arrived.
So grateful to my sisters and my friends for how much they supported me through it all.

“I’m doing a Masters in Global Security and Strategy, and babyyyy. I’ve already called my sister once crying cause I felt so overwhelmed Being out of touch with the international arena and just diving back in is one hell of a ride but I am strapped (or atleast I think I am). Anyways, I was gonna do a nonchalant post but this caption is now too long so bye guyssss!”

FCCPC seals France, Belgium, Italy visa centres over investigation obstruction, suspected unfair practices

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed off France, Belgium and Italy visa centres located at the Mukhtar El-Yakub House, Central Business District, Abuja.

The office was sealed with the combined efforts of operatives from the FCCPC, Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps as staff of the centre resisted the sealing.

Sealing off the centre on Thursday, Mrs Boladale Adeyinka, the Director, Surveillance and Investigations Department of FCCPC, said the move was due to failure of the centre to receive a letter of the Commission to investigate a consumer complaint.

Adeyinka said the centre was also sealed due to obstruction of investigation or inquiry and conducting services considered upon reasonable suspicion to be inimical to consumers’ welfare.

She mandated the company to apper before the Commission on June 20, to testify, make depositions and provide evidence in relation to failure to receive a letter of the Commission to investigate a complaint and obstruction of investigation or inquiry.

”This is an enforcement operation against TLS.

”As you are aware, they provide visa support services to Nigerian consumers.

”On the 25th of March 2025, based on consumer complaint, a letter was served on them to address the consumer complaint as is the process of amicable resolution of consumer complaints at the commission.

”The officers of TLS, rather than receive the consumer complaint, proceeded to assault our officers who were conducting the lawful duty of protecting and implementing the provisions of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA).

”Upon receipt of that report, the commission directed that they should be summoned (1:25) to appear before the commission pursuant to Section 33 of the FCCPA.

”Rather than receive the summons of the commission, officers of TLS again on June 17, proceeded not only to assault our officers but also assaulted uniformed officers of the police force who were providing lawful security for the operations of the commission.

”Section 33 stipulates that any person who without sufficient cause fails or refuses to appear before the commission in compliance with a summons commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or fine not exceeding #20 million or both fine and imprisonment,” she said.

Adeyinka directed that the Company would be liable for all losses and expenses encountered by visa applicants as a result of the enforcement.

However, the Management of the Company  refused to comment on the matter.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the centre is being managed by TLS Contact, a Teleperformance Company.

  • Lukaku back for Belgium in bid for Nations League quarters

Lukaku back for Belgium in bid for Nations League quarters

Belgium have recalled top scorer Romelu Lukaku to their 23-man squad for their last two Nations League group matches against Italy and Israel as they make a last-ditch effort to reach the quarter-finals, coach Domenico Tedesco said.

Lukaku was left out of the squad for their opening four Nations League matches over the last two months. In September it was because of his impending move to Napoli and last month Tedesco said his absence was because he was not yet fit although in a subsequent interview, Lukaku said he was not mentally ready.

Yet Tedesco said at a press conference on Friday that Lukaku was eager to return for the matches against Italy in Brussels next Thursday and away to Israel in Budapest, Hungary on Nov. 17.

“He had no hesitation to return. He is one of the best strikers in world football. He doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody any more. His qualities are key for us and he’s also important off the pitch. He’s a natural leader and is very good helping the young players,” the coach said.

Motivated Belgium target  long-wait win  against France

Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco has urged his players to be brave and clinical against France as his side seek a first competitive victory over their neighbours in 43 years in their Nations League A Group 2 clash in Brussels today.

Belgium trail pool leaders Italy by three points and second-placed France by two at the mid-way point in the group, needing to finish in the top two to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Fans of the America’s Cup final have long been able to see the races and the water,

Defeat at home and an expected win for Italy over Israel could effectively end their hopes to reach the knockout stages with two rounds left to play.

“We must be brave against France. We won’t get many opportunities and we have to finish the ones we get,” Tedesco said.”We won’t be able to put pressure on them for 90 minutes, so it’s also important to defend well in our own box. It’s going to be a big game.”

Belgium, who are without Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku after they asked not to be considered for this international window, earned a 2-2 draw in Italy on Thursday having been two goals behind inside 24 minutes.

Tedesco is hoping his side will start better against France, who won 2-0 in Lyon when the teams met last month.

“We didn’t start well (against Italy),” he said.

“We wanted to be compact, but we were way too impatient. And that quick (first) goal did not help. We are just human. It is in my character to also talk about the bad things. We must not hide that.

“But the match lasted 90 minutes, not half an hour. I want to emphasise that we showed a good response. With this young group it was anything but a bad result against Italy.”

Belgium have not beaten France in a competitive match since a World Cup qualifier in 1981. Their two victories since then have both beat in friendly fixtures, the last in 2015.

“Will the poor results against France from the past discourage us? It can be a motivation. We can actually write history,” Tedesco said.

“Of course, we will need a fantastic day. If you see who France can select. Then it doesn’t really matter that (Kylian) Mbappe isn’t there.”

Mbappe has also asked to be excused from French duty for the October international window.

Euro 2024: Belgium to face France  as Ukraine bow out

Belgium, Romania and Slovakia qualified for the last 16 of Euro 2024 as war-torn Ukraine were left heartbroken by a thrilling end to Group E.

Romania’s 1-1 draw with Slovakia in Frankfurt secured the point both nations needed to progress, while Ukraine’s brave effort in a 0-0 draw with Belgium was not enough.

All four sides ended the section on four points, but Ukraine paid for their 3-0 defeat to Romania in their opening game as they finished bottom of the group on goal difference.

Belgium could be made to pay for making a meal of a group they were expected to cruise as Domenico Tedesco’s men will face France in the last 16 after finishing second.

Belgium’s mix of veteran talent and rising stars are just one of a host of favoured sides yet to hit their stride in Germany.

Their support reacted furiously at the final whistle in Stuttgart, with captain Kevin De Bruyne appearing to tell his team-mates not to go over to acknowledge them as the whistles and jeers grew louder.

Ukraine became the first side since the expansion of the Euros to 24 teams to fail to get out of the group stage with four points.

It was a tale of what might have been for Serhiy Rebrov’s men as Belgium goalkeeper Koen Casteels prevented a corner from crossing the line by centimetres before denying Georgiy Sudakov a memorable winner in stoppage time.

However, in stark contrast to Belgium’s rebuke, the Ukrainians were still handed a hero’s reception at the end by their band of supporters.

“A strong nation is one that remains united and supports each other at all times. Both in times of defeat and in times of victory,” wrote Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Telegram. “Today we thank the Ukrainian national football team. Despite the disappointing result, you fought for our country… Glory to Ukraine!”

In Frankfurt, Romania ensured progress to the knockout stages of a Euros for the first time in 24 years after coming from behind to take a point.

Slovakia went in front on 24 minutes when Ondrej Duda powered home a header.

The lead only lasted 13 minutes as Ianis Hagi, son of former Barcelona and Real Madrid star Gheorghe Hagi, won a penalty that was emphatically converted by Razvan Marin.

  • Japa: it’s not easy to survive in Europe, Belgium govt warns

Japa: it’s not easy to survive in Europe, Belgium govt warns

The Belgium government has sounded a warning that it is not easy to survive in Belgium, albeit Europe without a decent job.

Belgium also expressed concern over the spike in some asylum seekers from Nigeria in the post-COVID era, saying it has increased from 50 to 380 in 2023.

Freddy Roosemont, Director General, Office of Foreigners, Belgium barked out the warning while addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday.

Roosemont said right now there is no space for people to migrate to in his country, as lots of irregular migrants end up on the streets.

He therefore stressed that most dreams of a better life in Europe are nothing but eldorado; adding that it’s a dream and not a reality.

He said: “First of all, informing the people correctly, because that they often leave with a dream. If I say to the investor, you’re gonna win the lottery next week and it’s going to bring you a million euros and he believes me it will be a dream, is that dream realistic? Not at all.

“So first of all, you have to take away the dream. The dream is not real. That’s why I’m telling you and I hope that through you, the public is aware that dream is not real.

“It’s not easy to survive in Europe, without a decent job and without sort of being an employer or by a university. The dream is fake.

“The second thing is, of course, we have legal migration, but legal migration will not be for 10,000 for 5000 people. It will be for some people who have gone through some conditions. Somebody who wants to study in Belgium is very welcome. But he first has to show to the university that he will be capable of following the studies there in English, that if he’s studying medicine he has a sort of basics to study medicine, and if he wants to become an engineer, that he has a technical knowledge that he is good in maths and so on. So there it’s the division University is going to select who they let it was not only from Nigeria, it’s from everywhere in the world like that.

“The work possibilities are there, but it will be a Belgium employer who is looking for somebody who can fill a position in his company, and he has connections, he knows that you’re capable of doing so that he asks at the Belgium service of labour if he can contact you give you a contract and get you over family reunification is easy to do.

“So you need a family you need a wife and your children. But those three are the three main levels of legal migration.”

He also warned that coming to Belgium to seek asylum would not work, as there is a low chance of obtaining a residence permit.

“So at that moment, we have to limit the reception of asylum seekers only to people who are vulnerable and that means families, women with children. No man alone, not in that group.

“So for the moment there are lots of these asylum seekers living in Brussels on the street, and I can assure you the temperature in Brussels is not what it is here in Abuja. It got to minus seven, minus five. Now it’s around zero Celsius.

“So it’s really not easy to survive in Brussels without help without assistance.

“We are by law obliged to give that assistance but we simply can’t do it because places are filled up or simply filled up. It’s a very painful situation for Belgium, but it’s like that if you look at the newspapers, if you look at the journals, if you walk in the streets in Brussels, you’re going to see everywhere, people sleeping on the streets and people trying to survive without any help.

“Secondly, we also see that a lot of people, especially girls are forced into prostitution in the big cities.

“If we find girls like that, we try to help them we try to help them to come to come them the people come keep guilty of that.”

He also added that certain procedures in the Belgium Justice Department would help girls who want to leave the profession. So we get quite good information about what they have to do and what they earn. And they earn nothing, their passport will be taken away from them. Their humanity will be taken away from them and they will end up there and that’s why you have to inform your public, the people of Nigeria, the youth of Nigeria that things like that are still going on in Europe and Belgium.

Roosemont pleaded with the media to help educate the people, saying “Notifying the youth that it’s not the dream to go to Europe to go to Belgium is not realistic and it’s very dangerous. So that’s why I making that brief. That’s also the reason why we were here in Nigeria the last week to try to inform the youth directly or indirectly, that the thing that they hope is not realistic. It’s a very dangerous thing.”
