    Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has approved the appointment of Benjamin Hundeyin, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

    Hundeyin holds a BA (Hons) in English Language from Lagos State University (LASU) and an MSc in Legal Criminology & Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan (UI).

    He also obtained a Certificate in Civil-Military Coordination from the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre, Jaji, Kaduna State.

    Hundeyin is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), a Member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).

    A statement yesterday in Abuja by the outgoing FPRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), reads: “A seasoned communicator, CSP Hundeyin previously served as the Police Public Relations Officer at Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, was part of the Nigerian contingent to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan (UNAMID) in 2020, and served as the Administration Officer at the Force Public Relations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja. Until his present appointment, he was the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command.

    ”The IGP has charged him to leverage his communications and security experience to bolster the Force Public Relations activities and ensure continuous positive relations with the public.

    Adejobi has officially handed over to Hundeyin.

    CSP Benjamin Hundeyin is new Force PRO

    Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin, the outgoing Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, has been appointed as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

    CSP Hundeyin takes over from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who has been redeployed to the Delta Police Command to be in charge of operations.

    According to a source, police authorities described the development as a routine administrative adjustment aimed at career progression and manpower optimization, stressing that it is neither punitive nor controversial.

    CSP Hundeyin brings to his new role a wealth of experience in security operations and strategic communication.

    He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.

    A seasoned communicator, Hundeyin has undergone specializeod training in Civil-Military Coordination at the Nigerian Army’s leadership institute in Jaji and is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the International Public Relations Association, and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPMN).

    His distinguished career includes a stint with the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), where he honed his skills in international peacekeeping and crisis communication.

    Since March 2022, Hundeyin has served as the spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, earning widespread recognition for his proactive engagement with the public and the media.

    He succeeded former Lagos PRO, DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, and has been credited with improving police-community relations in the state.

    As the new national spokesperson of the police, CSP Hundeyin is expected to spearhead the Force’s communications strategy, enhance transparency, and strengthen public trust through effective crisis management and strategic messaging.

    The transition is expected to take effect in the coming days after an official handover ceremony at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

    Police investigate Lagos explosion

    The Police Command in Lagos State says it is investigating the explosion that occurred inside a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera dealer shop in Ikeja.

    The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.

    He said that the incident happened on Friday at 6:35 p.m. at Kodesho Street at Computer village in the Ikeja area of the state.

    “The scene of the explosion and adjoining areas were immediately taken over and cordoned off by operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the command, the Mobile Police Detachment and Conventional Police Teams.

    “The scene was swept by the EOD experts of the command to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate a comprehensive investigation to determine the actual cause of the explosion,” he said

    The image maker said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Olohundare Jimoh, arrived at the scene within minutes for an on-the-spot assessment.

    “While investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion and other factors that might have caused the incident, the CP urges Lagos residents to remain calm and not to panic

    “The public are enjoined to go about their lawful engagements and businesses peacefully without fear or apprehension, as the scene of the explosion and the adjoining area have been rendered safe and secured, ” he said.

    According to him, five persons inside and around the shop that sustained various degrees of injury have been rescued and taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for medical attention.

    The spokesperson said that the command assured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and security throughout the state.(NAN)
