    Evomec boosts Victor Ikpeba/Bet9ja 5-a-Side Challenge

    The Victor Ikpeba 5-A-Side Football Challenge kicked off as scheduled in Warri on Thursday, December 18.

    The start came with a bang as the total prize money increased from N1m to N1.5m just as the first shot was being taken.

    The organizer of the competition, and former Super Eagles attacker Victor Ikpeba, said he was able to increase the prize money because of the support he received from High Chief Peter Esievo, the Managing Director of Global Services Limited.

    Ikpeba said, “I say thank you to Chief Esievo from the depths of my heart. His support that has come through Global Services Limited has made a lot of difference for us in the pursuit of better organization and results for this community-based competition.

    The mini-football tournament being held at 3 Battalion Army Barracks, Effurun, got into the quarter-final stage on Thursday following a knockout play that saw 24 teams battle fiercely for a place closer to the trophy.

    Winner emerges at Bet9ja Ibeju-Lekki football tourney

    Success Football Club have emerged the winner of the maiden edition of the Bet9ja Ibeju-Lekki football tournament after a 3-1 victory against Noble 5 Star Football Club at the Radial Sport Arena, Epe Expressway, Lagos.

    The exciting final marked the end of the month-long event, which featured 42 teams.

    Goals from Yakub Sheriff, Ajayi Shakiru, and Yakub Nurudeen sealed the victory for Success FC, while Monday Adeoye scored a consolation for Noble 5 Star FC.

    Success FC received a sum of N500, 000 with a giant trophy while Noble 5 Star FC went home with the sum of N300, 000 as Bright Star pocketed N200, 000 for the third-place position.

    Sadat Sanusi from Royal Asyteric FC won the highest goal scorer award with six goals as Success FC coach, Ogunjuwon was named as best Coach of the tournament.

    Speaking after the successful hosting of the tournament, the Chairman Organising Committee, Victor Akinmoyo, said the competition not only brings youths in Ibeju-Lekki together but also provides a platform for them to showcase their skills and talents. ‎He promised to sustain the completion with the help of their sponsors.

    “Everyone was pleased to see the competition being hosted here in Ibeju-Lekki. Aside from that, we’re also looking for ways to keep sustaining this competition, and I’m sure the sponsor will come to our rescue, come next year.  I congratulate the winners for their effort and for embracing the spirit of sportsmanship. I hope to see them in bigger places in the near future,” Akinmoyo said.

    ‎‎ A total of 42 teams are expected to take part in the maiden edition of Bet9ja Ibeju-Lekki Football Tournament which kicks off on 23, August, 2025 in two centres at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

    ‎This was confirmed by the organisers at the draw ceremony and presentation of the trophy in Lagos. ‎Speaking at the event, the Executive Director Bet9ja, Albeto Cuomo, who acknowledged the pool of talents abound in the country, said they sponsored the tournament so as to provide a platform for young ones to showcase their abilities, grow in confidence and gain experience needed to reach the next level.

    ‎In her speech, Senior Marketing Manager Bet9ja, Mrs Jennifer Olatunji reiterated the company’s commitment to grassroots sports in the country.

    ‎Olatunji said the winners of the tournament will receive the sum of N500, 000 with a giant trophy, while the first and second runners up will pocket the sum of N300, 000 and N200, 000 respectively.

    ‎Also, the best goalkeeper will be rewarded with the sum of N30, 000 while the best coach and best supporters’ club will get the sum of N50, 000 each.

    ‎The sum of N20, 000 will be given to Most Valuable Player of the tournament while the two coaches in the final would be sent to National Institute for Sports (NIS) for coaching course courtesy of Bet9ja Betting Company.

    The second edition of the  South East Badminton Tournament ended in Owerri with Anambra State’s Jovita Anieke Chisom who was the defending champion, keeping his crown as winner in the male category.

    Equally, the defending champion in the female category, Queen Chibuzor Sunday of Imo State, also retained the title she won in Enugu last year.

    In the male event, Chikamso Franklin Eya from Enugu and Imo’s Ikechukwu Nwanguma finished second and third positions respectively.  The medals table in the female event did not look any different as it was still Edith Chidolue of Enugu and Oluchi Ozurumba who got the silver and bronze medals accordingly.

  • Senate threatens to order shutdown of Bet9ja over refusal to honour its invitation

    The Senate Committee on Youth and Sports on Tuesday threatened to order the shutdown of Bet9ja office if the company failed to honour its invitation for a second time.

    The Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Obinna Ogba, made the remark at the National Assembly, Abuja during the verification of loto companies with license to operate in Nigeria.

    Ogba (PDP Ebonyi Central) said it was unfortunate that Bet9ja refused to honour the committee’s invitation.

    “Clerk, write to Bet9ja again. If they did not honour our invitation, we will ask the National Lottery Commission to seal their offices,” he said.

    According to him, the Senate is making efforts aimed at assisting the Lottery Commission to generate money for the Federal Government.

    ”We want to see bet9ja. They can’t run away,” he said.

    The chairman explained that the verification followed series of complaints against the betting companies, adding that ”some don’t even have offices while others have not been making remittances to the government.”

    ”Some got the licences but they are not operating. The new regulation only give them one year to start operations,” he noted.

    Meanwhile, about 20 other betting companies appeared before the committee for the verification exercise. (NAN)
