Popular gospel artist Bolaji Olanrewaju, widely known as Big Bolaji, has been buried at All Souls Private Cemetery in Ido, Ibadan. 

Big Bolaji died on April 19 at 50 after a brief illness.

The burial ceremony, which began on Wednesday, capped a deeply emotional funeral service that drew family, friends, and luminaries from the gospel music community to honor the late singer’s legacy.

The final rites commenced at the Hall of Grace, Jogor Centre, with a lying-in-state and funeral service.

Mourners watched in somber silence as pallbearers carried Big Bolaji’s flower-adorned casket into the venue.

The atmosphere was heavy with grief, yet vibrant with celebration of his life, as a tribute video showcasing his musical journey and spiritual impact played to tears and applause from attendees.

Prominent gospel artists, including Tosin Bee, Mike Abdul, Bidemi Olaoba, and Yetunde Are, joined popular comedian Woli Agba and other well-wishers to pay their last respects.

Following the service, a solemn burial procession made its way to All Souls Private Cemetery.

There, Big Bolaji’s wife, siblings, and loved ones stood in quiet reflection as the beloved artist was committed to the earth, bringing a close to a life dedicated to faith and song. 

The news of Big Bolaji’s passing has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian gospel music community and beyond.

Big Bolaji, whose real name is Bolaji Adedotun Olanrewaju, was a renowned gospel singer and radio talk show personality who died on Easter Saturday after a brief illness.

Big Bolaji’s family confirmed his death in a statement, describing him as a “cherished father, husband, brother, and esteemed figure in the church community and the music industry.”

They praised his passion for music, unwavering faith, and dedication to uplifting those around him, saying his legacy would live on through the lives he touched and the joy he spread.

The family announced that details regarding his obsequies would be shared in due course, asking for respect for their wishes during this difficult time.

Big Bolaji was not only a talented musician but also an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCGC) and a member of the board of directors for the Living Spring Music Festival.

His death has sparked an outpouring of condolences and tributes from fans and fellow artists on social media.
