  • BBNaija’s Lolu: I treasure my family, love, food and fans

Lolu Omololu Shomuyiwa is the second runner-up of the 2018 Big Brother Nigeria reality event. In this interview with Michael Nwosu, he talks about his getting into Big Brother, the experience and his plans for the future.

HO or what inspired you to go into Big Brother?

I have always wanted to go into the Big Brother house. The audition that got me into the house was my third audition and I felt it was a platform I needed to excel and exceed my expectations. So going into the Big Brother house was to showcase who I am and I am happy about the outcome.

Where you comfortable with the level you got to at the Big Brother game?

Yes, it is one thing to go into the house and another is to stay for as long as I did. Then another  is to have all the opportunities that I had in the house and get the  votes of my fans . I must say that I am grateful to my fans because without them, I would not have gotten this far in the house.

What are the things you did before the Big Brother experience?

I wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary, I was just working and hoping I will get a call.

What was your first day in the Big Brother house like?

It was a very interesting experience, it was a new environment. I had 19 other housemates to understand, relate with and learn from and I had to do this every day. Personally, I think that was the most challenging part for me brainwise. I also realized that there were cameras everywhere and it was the first time of my life that I was in the eyes of the world.

Did your experience match your expectations?

It is big to be in the Big Brother house even for a short time and it opened my eyes to a lot of things. Flashback  from the day that I left for the house, I had 1, 508 followers on Instagram and it was really amazing. As I speak now, I have crossed 202,000 followers on instagram and I would say that Big Brother was a big platform for me and others to be out there in the world. We were already trying to be successful and Big Brother has really helped us to be successful .So I am truly grateful for that.

What are some of your memorable moments in the house?

For me, I must say that winning the Payporte challenge, winning the heritage bank task,k in am a big fan of sports was really memorable for me. So winning the Supersport challenge was good. Looking back , I would also say that everyday was beautiful in their own ways and this is because I had really good days and bad days. But the thing about the bad days is that the bad days actually made me better and made me value the good days . So every day was memorable but these three moments stand out

What were the challenges you encountered?

Challenges  is part of life and for me having to understand 19 people at a time and relate with them differently and consistently was a challenge but it was also very interesting.

How did you cope with the rest of the housemates?

I had done things in the area of public relations before and  my experience actually helped me to adjust and relate with people easily . What I  did was to  apply what I knew from work to my personal life . What was difficult for me was the time frame that I had and the environment I had to do it. Asides that, it was just getting to know them and be open minded about them and not formulate any judgement or perceptions of them without meeting and experiencing them first .

Who are the greatest influences in your life?

My mom, her soul rest in peace. I am a fan of Tyler Perry, a big opera fan, I am a big fan of Lagbaja in terms of music, I look up to Alhaji Aliko Dangote in particular because he thinks in a very structured and layered way and I am working to be a layered thinker. Also, Igho Sanomi who is doing very well for himself and the way he has gone about his business in the last 5-10 years is amazing.

Are there any changes about you when you started the Big Brother game and now?

The Lolu in the Big Brother house is the same Lolu outside the house, no changes. I learnt new lessons and I reminded myself of things I already know. So, I would say that the Big Brother game was more of an enlightening experience for me and very entertaining and also an experience that made me grow in all facets of my life. The amount of growth I experienced in the house was enormous, I  believe that I wouldn’t have grown that much anywhere else. I grew morally, mentally, emotionally, and psychologically. Physically, I think I added a bit of weight in the house.

What are the changes you will like to see in the sector?

Big Brother is an amazing show, it is the biggest television production in Africa, there were Saturdays where we played games, chill out and more. For me, I like to play television games and it was nice to see that in the house and also some people liked to work out. So it was nice to see that as well. Big Brother should consider putting more of these things in the house for people that really like them. Big Brother is an amazing show and so whatever I have said is just a suggestion of things that can be added to consecutive episodes of the show.

What are the lessons you have learnt?

As intelligent or smart as you might be, it is important to always give room for the unexpected. The truth is that you may know a lot of things but there are so many things beyond your knowledge, so humble yourself to learn, it will help you grow. A lot of people say ‘think outside the box’, Big Brother made me realise ‘think like there is no box’ to make you think in a wider form and make you understand that nothing is impossible

What is your definition of style?

For me, style is simple, classy and comfortable.

    What is your favorite colour?

I don’t have a favorite colour but I like purple because that was my mom’s favorite color and it has stayed with me. I also like grey, white and olive green.

What are the things you treasure most in life?

I treasure my family, love, food and fans.

    How do you relax?

I eat to relax. I try as much as possible to spend time with family and I really love to play television games and I like to read.

What kind of books do you read?

All kinds of books except motivational books.

What are the principles that you hold on to in life?

Your life is what you make of it, live everyday like it is your last, you are the best of you that exists, there is no better person at being you, that is you.

    Who are your role models?

Tyler Perry, Lagbaja, Alh.Aliko Dangote, Mike Adenuga and Igho Sanomi

What is your advice to the young?

Young people, the only limitation you have is yourself, the only person standing in the way of your success is yourself. Challenge yourself, go outside your comfort zone, explore, always learn, nobody knows it all, the day you stop learning is the day you die. Being comfortable is great but not being in a comfortable position shapes you, teaches you more and finally even the word ‘impossible’ says I’m ‘possible’.

  • The elephant called Big Brother

I’ve seen people wondering what Big Brother reality show is ‘really’ all about. They hear about the various criticisms and say ehen, I know it is just a senseless assemblage. They get the media buzz but can’t seem to fathom what is it that excites people about some ‘jobless’ youth locked in a room for three months, only to eat, drink and dance – and while they sleep, people stay awake to watch how they snore away.

If you are a passive follower, this is the kind of confusion you get. Because while crossing from the kitchen to your bedroom, your eyes probably catch Rico braiding Cee-C’s hair, or Teddy A puffing at his cigarette in the garden, or Miracle and Nina lying beside each other, gossiping about other housemates. All these don’t make sense, right? Yes, they probably don’t. It is just like walking in in the middle of a television drama. Nothing grips you unless there is an outburst of emotion, a pandemonium, or in the case of an action movie, a violent scene.

For a candid reality show that puts contestants on the spot 24/7 through 90 days or so, you don’t get an outburst by accident unless you are a follower. Life itself is a potpourri of activities: some hot, some cold; some fast, some slow; it is about tears and laughter; conflict and peace. These things happen sometimes naturally and because the Big Brother show is not scripted, great moments on the show don’t announce themselves.

Big Brother is a character game and you do not expect the greatest of them to be entertained. Besides, who defines ‘great’? Sometimes it doesn’t matter that a dumb person is in the house. That on its own is a virtue because it gets people talking. Same for any wow factor displayed by any participant.

Big Brother is a conversation-generating show and you can bet that from the buzz, within Nigeria and outside, the conversations are limitless. Wondering why sponsors are enormous for the show? It is a show for active followers, and the show has got loads of them. This is what matters to notable brands, including Heritage Bank, Payporte, Pepsi, Nokia, etcetera who are sponsors of the Big Brother show.

The show as an advertising avenue is not only for these brands but for the individual brand of the contestants to show their stuff to the world. For any young talented participant, it is a school that could graduate them into fortune, depending on performance. It is free advertisement for what they do, and many have come out into the waiting hands of talent hunters in different spheres of human endeavours.

As a rewarding show, the ongoing Big Brother Naija stakes N45 million on the eventual winner. That is worth spending three months to get, albeit in a confinement that offers free food, free clothes, shoes, medical attention, fun moments, even as the brain and body are tasked for fitness.  Leo and Ifu Ennada who are out of the show left with N2.5 million each, and by the average salary rating in Nigeria, that amount is about two years earning for each.  This is aside other freebies, including an all-expense paid trip to London for the One Africa Music Festival and one year supply of Pepsi for winning the Pepsi “Roc da mat” challenge.

In the same vein, Tobi and Rico Swavey won the sum of N2 million, Nokia 8 Bothie phones and shopping vouchers in the ‘Duo Clip’ special task sponsored by Nokia.

Meanwhile, because entertainment is relative, some people would choose skits over short film, others would choose shorts over feature films, while some are enamoured of series. In terms of genres, fans are also divided in their choice for romance, horror, action, adventure, epic, film noir, war film, martial arts etc.

Big Brother is not an adventure reality show, but a lifestyle genre. Thus, it has its own flavour which is basically in the understanding of human characters in relationship with others. It is not exclusively a game of strength, but it teaches endurance, tolerance, diplomacy, alliances, team spirit, creativity, and love – virtues that are capable of defeating strength on the field of human relations.

And just as how different blind men made to feel the elephant would each define the animal based on the part they have touched, Big brother is to each man according to their level of acquaintance.

  • Big Brother to recall two evicted housemates as Anto is evicted

After seven weeks in the Big Brother Naija House, Anto was on Sunday evicted from the 2018 edition of the Big Brother Naija reality tv contest tagged ‘Double Wahala.’

This leaves nine housemates in contention for the grand prize of N45m and a brand new SUV. However, two of the 11 evicted housemates will stand the chance to be recalled by viewers to compete for the prize.

As customary, a Nigerian artiste was on ground to perform at the party and on Sunday, it was Simi’s turn to serenade attendees of the eviction live party.

From talking of each other behind their backs, host of the live eviction show, Ebuka, looking snazzy in a well-designed Agbada, asked the housemates to talk about their feelings for each other. Surprisingly, the housemates spoke well of each other and didn’t go at each other.

And with Teddy A, Bam-Bam, Miracle, Cee-C, Alex, Tobi, Rico, Lolu and Anto up for eviction, only Nina and Rico were free of tension as the eviction party went underway.

Miracle who wore a shirt with a pilot’s insignia was the first person to be saved to a huge relief from Nina, his lover in the house and also the head of house. He got hugs from the other housemates.

Teddy A, looking sharp in a floral shirt and suspenders was the  next to be saved. He too was also shown love by the remaining housemates.

Further building up the tension, Ebuka called out Tobi and Alex but only told Alex she was saved, leaving the remaining five housemates more tensed.

For expression of creativity, Big Brother announced the duo of Tobi and Rico as winners of the Nokia Challenge. They won shopping vouchers, Nokia phones and won one million naira cash each.

Big Brother also announced that the housemates won their shopping allowing which they had wagered despite their poor ‘collective’ singing ability.

  • #BBNaija: Tobi, Miracle, Teddy A, others up for eviction

Eight housemates are up for possible eviction , following the dissolution of the `strategic partnership’ by Big Brother.

The housemates up for eviction on Sunday, March 18, include Anto, Cee C, Lolu, Bambam, Tobi, Alex, Teddy A and Miracle.

However all the nominated housemates except Bambam and Cee C received two nominations each during the diary session on Monday night.

Immediate past Head of House (HoH), Bambam, turned out to be the least popular housemate after she received the highest number of votes with Lolu, Tobi, Alex and Nina all nominating her.

Controversial housemate Cee C, received the second highest number of nominations after Rico Swarvey, Alex and Miracle seemed to be displeased with her recent accusations towards Tobi.

Miracle revealed his reason for nominating Cee C in the diary room.

He said; “I nominated Cee C because she made unfair accusations towards Tobi”.

Meanwhile, Alex seems to have taken the eviction of her love interest to heart after crying nonstop all through the day.

Leo’s eviction from the Big Brother house seem to have come at her detriment because fellow housemate Anto, deemed her profuse wailing as immature and worthy of being up for eviction.

“I nominated Alex because she might not be mature enough to handle the N25 million after last night,” Anto said.

High point of Monday activities in the house was the twist in the nomination process.

Big Brother, known for twisting and changing the principle of the game, altered the HoH privileges for the first time in BBNaija “Double Wahala.”

Instead of the typical save and replace and immunity from nominations, the HoH had to rely on a “chance card” that will reveal either options.

Current queen of the house, Nina expressed her disappointment in not getting the full privileges previous HoH’s acquired.

“I am happy to be HoH, but I am sad that I didn’t get all the HoH privileges,” Nina added.

The result of the nominations saw more than three third of the housemates closer to losing the grand prize.

However Nina’s “chance card” revealed that she was immune from nominations making herself and Rico Swarvey the only housemates guaranteed safety for at least another week.

  • #BBNaija: My relationship with Cee-C is over – Tobi

#BBNaija: My relationship with Cee-C is over – Tobi

If the diary session Tobi Bakare, current head of house had with Big Brother on Friday is anything to go by, then it means his love relationship with Cee-C (Cynthia Nwadiora) is over.

Tobi revealed to Big Brother that he is not happy with the way things are going between him and Cee-C and so he feels that letting her be will be the best option.

Cee-C had in a diary session last week told Big Brother that she likes Tobi, even wishing that both of them can be paired together again, but Tobi put her up for eviction last Monday, telling her later on that he did that “because it’s just a game.”

It will be recalled that both of them were the first lovebirds in the Big Brother house, but he lost interest in her, following her continued quarrels with housemates, especially with her partner, Lolu. They both went on a date in the house, hoping to talk things through, but it did not produce much results.

Speaking to Big Broter, Tobi said “I like her (Cee-C) very much from when we got to know each other but gradually it faded out.”

Tobi however did not say this to Cee-C after the diary session, and as such, she does not know how he feels about her at the moment.

Cee-C and her partner Lolu, (Ceelo) is up for eviction on Sunday, as well as Gelah (Angel and Ahneeka) and Lifu (Leo and Ifu-Enada)
