A lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at the university, Dr James Bwala, said tree planting was a fundamental strategy for safeguarding the environment due to its multifaceted benefits in climate regulation, biodiversity support, and community well-being.

Dr Bwala, in a paper presented at the seminar, said: “One thing I observed around Abuja and environs is that the activities of felling trees impacted so hugely on the health of most communities.

“By emphasising education and awareness, communities can better understand the role of trees in environmental health, fostering a culture of stewardship that supports long-term ecological balance.”

Founder, Hope Aglow Charity Foundation, Dr. Cynthia Obiorah, charged participants at the seminar to promote sustainable practices that ensure a healthy environment.

She said: “We are the ambassadors of the environment that we live in. We must create awareness on how to sustain our environment; we need to be responsible for our environment.

“We can turn these waste plastics into wealth. When we reduce plastic waste we care for our ecosystem because plastic waste is destroying our ecosystem, it is impacting our health.

“I charge you to reduce the use of plastic waste daily. We need to limit the use of plastic solutions.”
