I’ve no apology for supporting Oyebanji, says Senate Leader Bamidele

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has said he has no apologies for supporting Governor Biodun Oyebanji, describing their partnership as one that has brought development to Ekiti State.

He said this at the weekend at Ikogosi Ekiti, during the 2025 Ikogosi Day Celebration and launch of N1 billion Development Fund, which was attended by dignitaries across the country.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Bamidele, who was also the chief launcher at the event, said his relationship with Governor Oyebanji was a synergy driven by a shared vision for the progress of the state and not borne out of personal or political gains.

He added that the collaboration between them had translated into visible achievements across critical sectors, particularly in infrastructure, human capital development and youth empowerment.

Describing the governor as a man of integrity, humility and who was committed to the welfare of Ekiti people, the Senate Leader said Ekiti people were the ultimate beneficiaries of the synergy between the executive and the legislative arms of government.

”Those that are angry that I am supporting BAO, I appeal to them not to be angry. We cannot see what is good and not support it. By the grace of God, myself and Governor Oyebanji have been friends for over 30 years, when we didn’t even know what we are going to become and let me tell you, our friendship is a case of glory supporting glory. So for me, I have no regret whatsoever standing by Governor Oyebanji and let me assure you and Ekiti people, what is going on between us is not a conspiracy, it is a partnership for the development of Ekiti State.

“When we were elected to go and serve at the National Assembly, Governor Oyebanji invited the nine of us and gave us a list of projects that he would love us to implement as constituency projects and today, while he’s doing his own at the state level, we are also picking from that list that he gave us, and things are complementing themselves and this is why every part of Ekiti you turn to, every corner you turn to in Ekiti, you will find a project, either being executed by the state government under the leadership of Governor Oyebanji or being implemented by National Assembly members under the watch of the governor.

“Each time I have come to this state to do my project inspection, the governor would suspend everything he was doing to go round with me and every project that I am doing in any part of Ekiti Central, I checked with the governor, he okayed it for implementation so if people are there saying all manners of things, forgetting that Ekiti is benefiting from our partnership, then I really don’t have any apology for such people,” he said.

Governor Oyebanji, who lauded Senator Bamidele for his support and collaboration, described him as a dependable partner in Ekiti project.

He said his administration valued unity, teamwork and peace, which had made governance more impactful and inclusive across the state.

The governor urged the people of Ikogosi and the entire state to embrace unity and peace, saying no community could experience sustainable growth without cooperation.

Maintaining that his administration’s success so far was rooted in teamwork and mutual understanding between the government and the governed, the governor appealed to residents to continue to see themselves as one big family, united by a common purpose, stressing that holding firmly to collective values and goals would make it easier to agree on a shared agenda for the overall development of their communities.

Over N650 million was realised as donation to the town’s development fund. Governor Oyebanji, while appreciating donors, assured them that the fund raised for the community project would be judiciously utilised to further enhance the town’s infrastructure and tourism potential.

Speaking at the event, the Regent of Ikogosi Community, who was represented by High Chief Jide Oyebanji thanked Governor Oyebanji for his outstanding performance and unwavering commitment to the development of the state.

The regent said the people of Ikogosi were proud of the governor’s accomplishments, particularly his efforts in promoting peace, infrastructure development and tourism growth in the community.

The royal father of the day, the Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Adu-Alagbado, who congratulated the people of Ikogosi for producing Governor Oyebanji, whom he described as a compassionate and visionary leader, said Ekiti State was fortunate to have a governor whose humility and passion for development had continued to place the state prominently on the national map.

Oba Adu-Alagbado urged the people of Ikogosi and the entire Ekiti community to remain united and supportive of the governor’s administration, stressing that unity and peace among communities were essential to sustaining the wave of progress currently being witnessed across the state.

The colourful ceremony also featured presentation of award to some outstanding indigenes of Ikogosi in recognition of their contributions to the growth and development of the town.

Also at the event were Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, the lawmaker  representing Ekiti North, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, Chief of Staff, Mr Niyi Adebayo, members of the House of Assembly, members of the Executive Council, royal fathers, among others.

Oni hails Oyebanji’s investment in technology

Ekiti State former Governor Segun Oni yesterday joined the league of ex-governors of the state to praise Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his efforts at repositioning Ekiti for equitable and aggressive development across sectors.

Oni, hailed the governor’s human capital development policy, with reference to the government’s huge investment in digital education and infrastructure.

He spoke at the inauguration of a 250 capacity ICT centre at the College of Nursing Sciences, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti. Oni stressed the importance of information technology to educational development and overall development of the state.

He lauded the Smart School, Ekiti Knowledge Zone and Digital Hub initiatives of the Oyebanji administration, which he said was preparing the citizens for the global stage.

Congratulating the students of the institution, who are the direct beneficiaries of the project, the former governor urged the management of the institution to also create an opportunity for former students, who have passed through the college, to update their skills and be digitally compliant to contribute their quota to the development of nursing.

“Your Excellency, you are doing the right thing and this state will develop further under your watch. I want to say that you will do more and more inauguration and you will bring more improvement to the state in your time and your era will be a real good era for health services and human capital development in Ekiti State.

“The ICT centre we have come to inaugurate has now become the real deal, because without digital literacy, your literacy is not full. In the days when I was growing up, literacy was the ability to write and read, but now the ability has extended to digital literacy, so the use of computers in most examinations is now compulsory. Even in secondary schools, examinations are now CBT-based,’’ Oni said.

Governor Oyebanji thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, attributing the development strides being witness across the state to the President’s far-reaching economic reforms that had provided a stable foundation for states to embark on meaningful infrastructure and human capital development

Explaining that the newly inaugurated ultra-modern 250-capacity ICT centre was part of his administration’s commitment to improving education and health care training through technology, the governor explained that the facility would not only enhance digital learning among students, but would also bridge the gap between classroom instruction and modern medical practice.

Governor Oyebanji said as part of activities marking his third anniversary, more than 10 roads across the state had been inaugurated, alongside six general hospitals and several electrifications projects to light up communities that had hitherto been in darkness for upward of 10 or more years.

Assuring the people of more aggressive infrastructure development across the state, Governor Oyebanji reiterated his administration’s determination to sustain the momentum of progress through strategic investment in roads, health care, education and technology.

“The only thing I just need to say is to express my sincere appreciation on behalf of the government and good people of Ekiti State to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who made all these possible. If you don’t have a President who is futuristic, a President who is prepared to rule, a President who is prepared to confront the norms, a courageous man of conviction, it would have been impossible for us to achieve what we are achieving at state government level.

“ I sat down there and I was counting the number of projects we have inaugurated in this third anniversary, I couldn’t believe it, I know we have done 10 roads across the state, we have done like six General Hospitals fully renovated and equipped, we’ve done more than 30 electrification projects connecting communities that have not had electricity in 10-15 years to the national grid and we still have hundreds of projects across the health sector. We have also inaugurated six farm dormitories that we named after the President”, the governor stated.

Commissioner for Health and Human Service, Dr Oyebanji Filani, who expressed his profound appreciation to Governor Oyebanji for his commitment to transforming the health sector in the state, noted that the governor’s strategic interventions, ranging from rehabilitation of general hospitals, recruitment of health workers and provision of modern equipment, had improved access to quality health care across the state.

Dr Filani further revealed that maternal and child mortalities in Ekiti had reduced drastically as a result of the administration’s sustained focus on primary health care delivery and improved maternal support services.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Kayode Olabanji, expressed his profound gratitude to the World Bank and Ekiti State for their investment in human capital development through technology, which had gone a long way in shaping the future of Nursing Education in Ekiti State.

Your good work will speak for you, Fayose tells Governor Oyebanji

    •Ex-governor inaugurates road

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose yesterday told Governor Biodun Oyebanji to ignore social media rants and cheap blackmail by those he branded as “blackmailers and players of morbid politics” attacking his administration on social media platforms.

The ex-governor said the recent governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State had exposed some betrayers among the people who were close to the governor.

He advised Oyebanji to be magnanimous and forgive such people, noting that such a development was a normal occurrence in any political system.

Fayose spoke in Igbara Odo Ekiti while inaugurating the 14-kilometre Igbara Odo-Ikogosi Road, as part of activities marking the third anniversary of Oyebanji’s government.

Addressing the mammoth crowd that thronged the venue of the ceremony, Fayose warned those attacking the governor to be wary of their actions, saying collective success of Ekiti was dear to the heart of the governor.

He hailed Oyebanji for uniting Ekiti leaders and citizens across party lines, saying ‘’this has further accentuated his mastery of politics, governance and management of people of diverse interests and idiosyncrasies.

“I am not here today to praise you, but to celebrate with you. We are now in Ekiti under your reign celebrating unity of purpose among leaders and our people. We thank God that we have a governor like you with capacity to turn things around.

“Don’t be bothered about blackmailers and wailers barking at your backyard, especially those making negative narratives on the internet. Allow them to be there. The people of Ekiti are not moved by their ranting. I experienced serious crises during my tenure, but you are taking things easy, turning things around and uniting everybody.

“The work you have done speak for themselves. I reconstructed this road 21 years ago, likewise the one that links Igbara Odo to Ikere. You have done well and I am happy about your popularity among the masses.

“Your product is selling and marketing itself. Like I said on Sunday, the siege is over. Thank God for your magnanimity, humility and simplicity to accommodate people.”

Predicting victory for Oyebanji in the 2026 governorship poll, Fayose said: “In my mind, we have already concluded the voting. With what is happening here today, whoever is opposing you will be disgraced. We are to unite and not to divide. Let other parties bring out their candidates for Ekiti to see. Nobody comes near Governor Oyebanji.

“I have no apology supporting you. They said I was the one handling the flyover contract, I am not a contractor. That was part of their blackmails. For me and everything I represent, I will continue to support you. To all the former governors supporting you, I appreciate them, but let us do it till the end, so that Oyebanji can achieve collective success.”

Governor Oyebanji said he was enthralled by the quality of job done on the road and the expeditious spate at which it was delivered, adding that these attested to the proficiency of the contractor that prosecuted the project and the supervising authorities.

The governor appreciated the torrent of commendations and accolades being given to his administration in terms of performance, but pointed out that the economic reforms being engineered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made it possible.

He said the roads being undertaken by his government were not only to bolster transportation, but also to open up communities and unlock their potential in the areas of economy, tourism and trade relations.

“I want to plead with you, let us because of this road settle the land dispute between Igbara Odo and Ikogosi communities. This is the time to resolve the issue.

“People have contacted me and said I should site a higher institution between these two communities. But there is no land to do it. But if you can resolve the issue, the government is ready to develop that corridor.

“If we are going to site any institution here, this matter must be settled. Our people can no longer go to farms because of fear of attacks. This is the time to resolve this matter once and for all”, he pleaded.

The Arajaka of Igbara Odo, Oba Edward Jayeola, who thanked the governor for the road, urged his community to reciprocate the gesture through support for his success and the realisation of his re-election bid. He promised to protect the facility from vandals to engender durability.

Present at the event were Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, Secretary to the State Government Habibat Adubiaro, Chief of Staff Oyeniyi Adebayo, Mr. Makinde Araoye, House of Assembly members, members of the state executive council, traders, driver unions, among others.

  • From job seekers to agripreneurs: Ekiti youth turning abandoned farmland into wealth

From job seekers to agripreneurs: Ekiti youth turning abandoned farmland into wealth

After many years of neglect and rural drift, a new generation of young people in Ekiti State is returning to the farm with renewed passion. Through a partnership between the Governor Biodun Oyebanji-led administration and the YSJ Farms, agriculture is once again becoming a pathway to prosperity. Rasaq Ibrahim in this piece chronicles how youths in the state are turning barren lands into thriving agribusiness hubs.

For decades, agriculture in Ekiti State suffered utter neglect, losing its pride of place. What was once a thriving sector that sustained families, communities, and state’s economy, gradually slipped into abandonment. The green fields that defined Ekiti’s identity as part of the old Western Region’s agricultural belt began to fade, replaced by overgrown bushes and deserted farmlands.

In the golden years, farming was not just an occupation but also a symbol of dignity and self-reliance. Every household had a farm, and the produce from Ekiti’s rich soil was enough to feed the state and supply neighbouring regions. But as the decades rolled by, government attention shifted away from the agriculture, and policies that once supported smallholder farmers disappeared.

The ripple effect was devastating. The famous farm settlements established by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo during his administration in the Western Region became relics of a glorious past. Their dormitories crumbled, tractors rusted away and the storage facilities fell apart under years of neglect.

The thriving agricultural cooperatives that powered rural economies became shadows of themselves, the vibrancy of rural life ebbed away and  youths drawn by the illusion of better opportunities in urban centres, fled the villages in droves.

Consequently, the prices of foods soared, food production plummeted and the cost of living spiked. Ekiti, once self-sufficient in staple crops like yam, rice, cassava and maize became dependent on supplies from other states. The rural economy shrank, while state’s economic strength weakened, relying on federal allocations for survival.

But, the Governor Biodun Oyebanji-led  administration in partnership with YSJ Farms, an agricultural firm, is changing the hitherto narrative by returning pride to farming and profit to harvest through a youth-driven initiative.

Across the rolling hills and fertile plains of Ekiti, farmlands once abandoned are now alive with activity. Youths, especially, young graduates, many of them former job seekers, are back in the fields tilling, planting, harvesting, and building new narratives of prosperity.

From Ikere to Iyemero, Eporo to Emure, the quiet hum of tractors and ploughs, as well as the sight of green rows of maize, cassava and rice are telling a new story. It is the story of rebirth, driven, not by seasoned farmers, but by graduates and entrepreneurs who have rediscovered hope in the soil.

Through its partnership with the Ekiti State government, YSJ Farms Limited, has successfully transformed agriculture into a well-structured, technology-driven sector that appeals to the youths once disinterested in farm work.

The agribusiness firm has introduced smart irrigation systems, drone-assisted crop monitoring, and modular training schemes that expose young farmers to precision farming, agro-processing, and value-chain management. Young people who once considered agriculture a last resort now see it as a business venture with real profit potential.

The training programmes have equipped hundreds of youths with agribusiness skills starting from land preparation to post-harvest processing. The company provides technical guidance, seeds, fertilisers, and access to markets, while the state government supports them with land clearing, credit facilities, and rural infrastructure.

This synergy between the government and the YSJ Farms Limited has sparked what many describe as green revolution in Ekiti’s food production. Agriculture is now witnessing renewed lease of life as policies, technical expertise, and youth enthusiasm converge to transform farm lands into epicentres of innovation and enterprise.

For the participating youths, farming is no longer a fallback option or a sign of economic frustration. Through practical training, mechanised tools, access to credit, and guaranteed markets, farming has become a viable  profession. Many of the beneficiaries, most of whom are graduates, now see the farm, not as a place of drudgery but as a business hub. Their success stories are reshaping the public perception, inspiring more young people to return to the soil.

YSJ’s activities being propelled by young farmers have significantly broadened Ekiti’s industrial base and redefined its agricultural landscape. Until recently, the state had few agro-based industries, and most agricultural products were sold raw, with little or no value addition.

However, under Governor Oyebanji, the partnership with YSJ Farms has started changing that narrative. With farmlands spread across 13 council areas, YSJ now supplies produce such as cassava, rice, yam, and maize to cottage industries in Ekiti and neighbouring states.

The firm also processes and packages local products, including the famous Igbemo (Ofada) Rice, which it de-stones and brands for commercial sale. This development has attracted off-takers from Lagos, Ondo,  Osun, and  Kwara States, who now source raw materials directly from Ekiti, paying taxes into the state’s coffers and boosting internally generated revenue.

Food security has become a cornerstone of the Governor Oyebanji administration’s strategic development plan, and YSJ’s role in achieving this goal cannot be overstated.  According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Ekiti currently records the lowest food inflation rate in Nigeria, a remarkable feat attributed to the surge in large-scale food production driven by the YSJ partnership.

Beyond ensuring food sufficiency, the partnership is also transforming social and economic fabric of Ekiti State. Under the initiative, over 1,000 young farmers have been fully engaged in commercial agriculture, creating thousands of both direct and indirect jobs across the rural communities.

To sustain this transformation, the Oyebanji-led administration has revived the Farm Settlements Initiative by commissioning three ultramodern dormitories under the President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Farm Dormitory Scheme. The dormitories are located in Eporo, Iyemero, and Ikere.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, said the initiative was aimed at increasing food production and stabilising food prices while giving comfort to youth farmers working in remote areas.

Beyond reviving the moribund three farm settlements established by Awolowo, Oyebanji disclosed that another 13 farm clusters had been created across the state to accommodate young farmers.

He described the Renewed Hope farm settlements as a model of innovation, integrating technology, smart irrigation system and youth-friendly infrastructure to make farming more attractive and profitable.

He said with this project, rural economy would be stimulated, especially with modular irrigation provided to make all the youth farmers to work round the year and secure their future through financial gains that can support their families.

“Today, the modern dormitories we are commissioning in Eporo, Emure and Iyemero  are built  to provide convenient abode, so that the youth farmers can enjoy the comfort of the city and  they won’t be distracted from their main focus.

“As of now, about 5,000 youths have been employed through this initiative. The rural economy has been stimulated while our youths are now more than ready to go into farming”, he added.

Oyebanji vowed to work closely with security agencies to protect the young farmers from attacks by “unscrupulous elements” trying to sabotage his food production drive. “I am assuring you that we will secure all farm settlements so that you can work and live here without fear or harassment,” he promised.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the YSJ Farms, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Joluwe, disclosed that youth farmers under the firm’s guidance had recorded combined profit of N800m between 2024 and now with projections to hit N1bn by the end of 2025.

Joluwe, who praised Governor Oyebanji for his administration’s commitment to encouraging commercial farming, noted that YSJ Farm started in only three local governments with N138million profit in 2024 and has now expanded operations to 13 local governments.

She stated that the initiative has radically transformed food production in Ekiti and contributed significantly to the state’s low food inflation rate, as confirmed by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

“Today’s occasion is more than just the commissioning of a building; it is a celebration of vision, leadership, and partnership that transform communities, empower young people, and build a better tomorrow.

“Last year, we recorded a profit of N138 million operating in three council areas. As of today, we have expanded to 13 local governments and surpassed N800 million.

“We are confident that before the end of this year, we will close above N1billion in profit. While we commend the ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s security architecture, we must not overlook some of the challenges faced by our young farmers”.

Mrs. Joluwe, however, appealed to the government to strengthen security around farms, noting that isolated cases of insecurity had made some young farmers hesitant to return to the fields.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, explained that the Eporo dormitory can accommodate 200 farmers, powered by solar lights and generators for comfort.

He added that the settlement covers 300 hectares of farmland, a move that has curbed kidnapping and banditry that once plagued the area.

Boluwade revealed that a N20million Agric Transformation Centre would soon be established in the Emure–Eporo axis, with poultry, pet houses, and processing facilities to further industrialise agriculture in Ekiti.

The Elemure of Emure-Ekiti, Oba James Ajiboye, commended the government for the innovative actions being deployed to boost agriculture in the state, describing it as a masterstroke that will revamp the sector in the state.

“All of you should go and get your voter cards. We will return votes that had never been witnessed in Emure Ekiti since 1999 that will shake other local governments.

“We are grateful that you have restored orderliness here. Nobody can come to this axis before because of the fear of kidnappers. You have succeeded in turning a dangerous zone to a zone of success”, he added.

The representative of the youth farmers, Mr. Olanrewaju Saliu, revealed that the governor has been fair to Eporo-Emure axis through cluster farming, health centre and school renovation, saying all these shall be reciprocated in the next election.

Saliu particularly praised the governor for ensuring security, by siting a Military post close to the dormitory and farming sites, stating that this will change the face of farming in the state and turn Ekiti into a food basket of Nigeria.

The Director-General/Special Adviser, Ekiti State Office of Transformation and Service, Dr. John Moyo Ekundayo said the Governor Oyebanji administration’s agricultural revival was not a fluke but a product of policy consistency, strategic planning and youth empowerment.

According to him, the state government’s partnership with YSJ Farms forms part of a broader vision to diversify Ekiti’s economy, reduce dependency on federal allocation, as well as make agriculture a sustainable driver of growth.

He explained that the government’s approach integrates innovation, security, and inclusiveness ensuring that young farmers are not only trained but also supported with infrastructure, finance, and technology.

He noted that the revival of the Awolowo-era farm settlements and construction of new dormitories have restored life to rural areas and strengthened the state’s food security architecture.

He emphasised that the partnership with private firms such as YSJ Farms demonstrates the administration’s belief in public-private collaboration as the most effective way to achieve rapid agricultural transformation.

“YSJ has shown that when the private sector and government work in synergy, results are faster, more sustainable, and more impactful on people’s lives,” he said.

Reaffirming the government’s resolve, the Director-General stated that the Office of Transformation and Service will continue to monitor and evaluate the initiative’s performance to ensure transparency, accountability, and measurable outcomes.

He urged more youths to take advantage of the opportunity, assuring them that the Oyebanji administration remains committed to providing security, access to markets, and an enabling environment for agribusiness to thrive.

Ekiti firmly on surest path to greatness, says Oyebanji

Ekiti State Governor  Biodun Oyebanji has declared that the state is firmly on the surest path of greatness, citing his administration’s development strides in infrastructure, health care, agriculture and education.

The governor said his administration had redefined the arteries of governance through transparent leadership, inclusive policies and strategic investments designed to transform  every sector of the state’s economy.

The governor made the remark yesterday while presenting the annual state of the state address at the House of Assembly in Ado-Ekiti,  during a special plenary to mark the third anniversary of his administration.

He highlighted massive progress in road construction, power supply and urban renewal, noting that his administration had built or rehabilitated over 350 kilometres of roads across the state, with 126 kilometres completed, while others were at advanced stages.

According to the governor, these roads, including Ikere-Ilawe, Ikere-Igbara Odo and Ring Road would be commissioned during his third-anniversary celebration.

On the economy, Oyebanji explained that his government had positioned Ekiti as an emerging investment destination through the creation of the Ekiti State Investment Promotion Agency and the Ease of Doing Business Charter.

The governor said that the reforms had restored investor confidence, attracted new industries, and improved internally generated revenue.

In the agricultural sector, the governor said over 5,000 hectares of land had been cleared for large-scale farming under cluster arrangements, while thousands of farmers benefitted from subsidized fertilizers and agrochemicals.

He disclosed that more than 5,000 youths were currently engaged under various programmes such as Bring Back Our Youths to Agriculture (BBYA) and the Ekiti Broilers Production Scheme (EBOPS), which has raised over 160,000 birds since inception.

Oyebanji also announced that the World Bank-supported Livestock Productivity and Resilience Scheme (L-PRES) had commenced construction of 20,000-capacity poultry pens in each senatorial district, in addition to cattle markets, a poultry processing plant, and a dual-purpose modern abattoir.

These, he said, would further expand the livestock value chain and create more employment opportunities for young people.

To ease agricultural logistics and boost food production, the governor revealed that his administration had rehabilitated 161 kms of rural roads and 101 culverts under the FADAMA CARES project, while Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) was delivering key link roads across farming communities.

He added that new retail outlets under Ounje Ekiti had begun to make staple food affordable and accessible to citizens, helping the state record the lowest food inflation rate in Nigeria as of August 2025.

On industrialization and power, Oyebanji said the government had reconnected several long-disconnected communities to the national grid and established the Ekiti State Electricity Regulatory Bureau to ensure fair metering and billing.

The governor added that new 2X60MVA transmission substations were under construction in Ikere, Ijesa-Isu, and Ilupeju to strengthen power supply and support industrial growth.

  • Ekiti 2026: APC guber aspirant Ojo, Oyebanji trade blame over alleged attacks in Ekiti

Ekiti 2026: APC guber aspirant Ojo, Oyebanji trade blame over alleged attacks in Ekiti

All Progressives Congress (APC), Kayode Ojo, and Governor Biodun Oyebanji clashed on Sunday over alleged attacks, intimidation, and harassment of supporters ahead of the governorship primary.

Ojo accused agents of the state government of masterminding politically motivated violence, unlawful arrests, and persecution of his supporters across various communities in the state.

Speaking at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti, Ojo, through the Head of the Kayode Ojo Team, Olukayode Oluyemo, alleged that several of his supporters had been unlawfully arrested, detained, and assaulted in a bid to weaken his growing political base.

According to him, incidents of attacks had been recorded in Igede-Ekiti, Otun-Ekiti, Ikere-Ekiti, and Emure-Ekiti.

He further claimed that intelligence reports indicated plans by political thugs allegedly loyal to the governor to disrupt his ward-to-ward campaign tour scheduled to begin on Thursday.

Ojo also cited a viral video in which threats were allegedly issued against him and his loyalists.

“We have credible intelligence that some political thugs, believed to be loyal to Governor Oyebanji, are threatening to disrupt our campaign activities,” Oluyemo said. “We urge security agencies to prevent any breakdown of law and order. Peaceful competition is the bedrock of democracy and must be protected.”

He further decried the alleged vandalisation of his campaign offices and properties belonging to his supporters, describing the incidents as “a direct assault on democratic rights and a violation of both the Nigerian and APC constitutions.”

Ojo demanded the immediate release of all detained supporters, an independent investigation into the alleged attacks, and sanctions against any public officials found guilty of abuse of power.

He warned that using state institutions to suppress political opponents could endanger peace and stability in the state.

However, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Yinka Olatunbosun, dismissed the allegations as baseless and mischievous, accusing Ojo of seeking cheap publicity to cover up his political unpopularity.

“No popular aspirant or loyal APC member will accuse the government of blocking their movement or attacking their supporters. It’s not only untrue but a figment of imagination — a lie from the pit of hell,” Olatunbosun said.

He added that Ojo was merely attempting to drag the governor’s name into controversy to justify an anticipated poor performance in the forthcoming APC governorship primary. “Politics requires mutual respect, collaboration, and camaraderie — not frivolous claims or media drama,” he stated.
