  • Owner of Mercy Aigbe’s birthday dress angry, as designer claims dispatch error

Owner of Mercy Aigbe’s birthday dress angry, as designer claims dispatch error

The ongoing drama on the red dress worn by actress Mercy Aigbe on her 40th birthday is yet to abate, as the excuse preferred by the designer, @Rikaotobyme, has only heightened anger.

The designer, who had been quiet since the allegation, attempted an excuse late Tuesday, blaming the problem on dispatch error.

She wrote on Instagram: “Our attention has been drawn to the ongoing chaos surrounding a dress and one of our esteemed clients on Instagram and possibly on other blogs and social media sites,” said @rikaotobyme.

“We would have preferred if this matter was addressed directly to us for a quick resolution and to avoid the media frenzy, but unfortunately it wasn’t.

“We hold our clients dearly and offer our services on first come first served bases with no iota of discrimination or insinuation of such. We admit that a dispatch error occurred in the delivery of a dress to Miss Lawrentta, who was set to get married on the 30th December, 2017 and the pickup of another dress on behalf of actress, Mercy Aigbe.

“Please note that both dresses were of the same style, the same colour (red) and almost the same measurement. On realising the error on dispatch, we quickly tried to rectify the mix up. But it was too late as the wrong dress was already on its way to Edo state for the bride to be, she further explained.

“We contacted the bride and explained we had an issue and asked if she would be comfortable with another dress, of same kind (which was the one meant for Mercy Aigbe), the bride agreed, so we allowed the dress to be delivered as time to recall dispatch was short in relation to the time of the wedding. We have already apologised to Miss Lawrentta, but once again use the public fora to tender an unreserved apology to her and by extension to Mercy Aigbe who shouldn’t have been dragged into this.

“We assure all our clients, past and future that our resolve to deliver top notch designs to clients within the country and beyond will not be compromised and the error that led to this unhappy situation has since been corrected.”

However, it was obvious the designer’s response did not placate the bride, who tagged the designer wicked, and went ahead to dismiss her claim by asking further questions.

“Reading your reply @rikaotobyme to the pain and embarrassment you deliberately caused me for financial profit on the eve of and on my wedding day, I am convinced that you are indeed wicked, A wickedness that has consequences.” Lawrentta said.

“Firstly, in your response you claim there was a dispatch error. Was the error of dispatch the cause of the delivery agent’s number being “not reachable” as you claimed? Secondly, you also claimed the “dispatch error” was too late to be rectified as the wrong dress was already on the way to Edo state. At what point was the “dispatch error” discovered since your staff Kate, dropped off the dress at Ojota at around 9pm for night bus delivery?

“Thirdly you claimed also that similarities in the dresses caused the “mixup”. If that was the case why did @realmercyaigbe on receipt of a dress that wasn’t hers still go ahead to wear it for her 40th birthday shoot and post on social media on the 31st of December?”

According to Lawrentta, the wrong dress which was eventually delivered to her was not in any way new.

“Mind you, the dress you sent to me was torn and musty on delivery, not in any shape for a client how much more a celebrity. While that which conveniently landed with Mercy Aigbe, was a fabric I purchased myself from @bshani_bridalfabrics. Lastly in your response, you lied about apologizing to me. Since the 29th I have not heard a single word from you and there is not a chance in hell that what you called an apology on “public fora” or the chat above would suffice.  In all of this, it’s blatantly obvious from your statement you have refused to accept responsibility like a true professional should and sincerely apologize for your moment of indiscretion and weakness.”

Actress Mercy Aigbe has however remained silent in the ongoing drama.

  • Orphans, IDP camps children stole show at Dogara’s high profile birthday bash

Orphans, IDP camps children stole show at Dogara’s high profile birthday bash

Orphans and children in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps are in for a good time this year. All thanks to the N250m realized at the 50th birthday bash of House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

The week-long event began with novelty football matches between his friends in the public and private sectors. In the match between the Senators and members of the House of Representatives, which ended in a goal apiece, Senate President Bukola Saraki equalised through a mysterious penalty kick to cancel out the earlier goal scored by the Speaker. There was also another match between the Speaker’s side and the private sector captained by industrialist Aliko Dangote.

The final leg of the Abuja event included a church service, witnessed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. It also included visits to 19 orphanage homes, where food items, toiletries, beddings as well as beverages and dried fish were distributed to the children.  At Treasure Orphanage Foundation and Abuja Children’s Home in Karu, a suburb of Abuja, Dogara told the children not to despair or dwell too much on the circumstances that placed them where they found themselves today.

Dogara assured the children that the proceeds of the birthday programme, including the launch of his autobiography authored by Dele Momodu would be donated to the less privileged. He urged the authorities and the well-to-do in the country to give back to the society.

He said: “We are here in response to the higher call of duty to support the less fortunate and less privilege in society. For the young people who are in this Home, I want to encourage you that there is no one who can stop you from rising to the top, only you can stop yourselves. All you need is discipline, the gift, the talent; time and opportunity are equally given to all of us by God. The circumstances of your birth or the situation in which you find yourself do not change the fact that God Has deposited talent in us. There are people who were in similar positions before now and have gone to accomplish so much. With God, discipline and focus, you don’t need anyone because as you are destined by God, He will provide for you.”

At the reception held at the prestigious International Conference Center (ICC), Abuja on Boxing Day, where ‘A reed made Flint’ was also launched, not less than N250m was realised. The exquisitely decorated hall witnessed the assemblage of movers and shakers of the Nigerian society and there was no dull moment throughout the evening with star gospel artistes Panam Percy Paul and Tope Alabi providing inspirational songs. The duo of Sam and Song blew everyone away with their brand of comedy at the event chaired by Saraki.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who wrote the Forward of the autobiography that was reviewed by Reuben Abati, in his goodwill message, said Dogara was a dependable ally, while revealing that when he assumed office, one of his greatest desires was to be blessed with men of impeccable characters to steer the country right.

“Dogara is a fulfillment of that desire,” Buhari said.  He was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.

The guest list boasted of former First Lady Mariyam Abacha, Governors Aminu Tambuwa (Sokoto), Muhammed Abubakar (Bauchi), Nasarawa State Deputy Governor Silas Agara and Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu. The event was also attended by former Speakers Dimeji Bankole and Patricia Etteh.

Dogara revealed that Dangote Foundation Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have promised to partner him in his pet project of catering for the less privileged.

•Saraki, Ekweremadu, Dogara, APC, others greet President

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday celebrated a low-key 75th birthday, with a special birthday parade planned by the Brigade of Guards being cancelled.

A source close to the Presidency, which confirmed this development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, did not give reasons for the cancellation.

It was gathered that the president’s family, led by his wife, Aishat and some presidential aides led by the president’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, had planned a low-key birthday celebration for the president where they would present birthday cards to him.

Last year, Buhari inspected a special parade mounted by the Brigade of Guards as part of activities to mark his 74th birthday anniversary, which coincided with his daughter’s (Zahra) wedding.

Zahra got married to Ahmed Indimi, the son of a multibillionaire oil tycoon, Mohammed Indimi, in another low-key event.

However, eminent personalities have been congratulating President Buhari on his 75th birthday in various platforms of the social media since Thursday.

They rejoiced with the president and prayed for his good health as well as wishing the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government success in the discharge of its promises to Nigerians.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, in his birthday congratulatory message to President Buhari, described him as a statesman who has earned a special place in history.

“I prayed that the God Almighty that has kept you alive and healthy till now, will continue to protect and strengthen you as you lend your efforts towards the realisation of our collective dreams for a greater and more prosperous nation,” Jonathan said in a statement.

Others and prominent Nigerians including state governors, leadership and members of the National Assembly also felicitated with the president.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, in a message sent through his twitter handle @BukolaSaraki, using the hashtag #PMBAt75, prayed that God may grant President Buhari wisdom to continue to run the affairs of Nigeria.

He said: “Happy Birthday Mr. President! I wish you the blessings of the Almighty, and continued wisdom and grace as you celebrate another year.”

Idris Baba, who wrote in response to Saraki’s birthday wish, said: “I join the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki in wishing the President a Happy Birthday as Baba is aging with grace. May Almighty Allah continue to protect baba for us.”

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu also congratulated Buhari on his 75th birthday.

In a goodwill message yesterday, Ekweremadu described the President as an elder statesman, who had continued to pay his dues in service to the nation.

He expressed gratitude to God for restoring the President’s health and urged Nigerians not to relent in their prayers for the President as he continues to pilot the affairs of the nation.

House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara also wished Mr. President a Happy Birthday using his twitter handle @YakubDogara.

He wrote: “On behalf of the leadership, membership of @HouseNGR, I wish to join the good people of Nigeria and numerous well-wishers across the globe in wishing H.E. President Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari a happy birthday.

“Under his leadership, Nigeria is steadily regaining its past glory, winning investors’ confidence and earning global respect and recognition.

“He has remained consistent in dealing with corruption, insecurity and unemployment through various reforms and interventions.

“We pray that God continues to keep President Buhari in good health and bless him with more fruitful and prosperous years of service to the people and the nation.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC), using its official handle @APCNigeria, also wished Mr. President well and called on Nigerians to wish the President a warm celebration.

However, a video of a baby, who sang happy birthday song for Mr. President, has already started going viral on the social media platform with over 50 retweets.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams may be out of action after giving birth to a baby girl earlier this month, but her family name will still feature in the season-ending eight-player BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global next month.

Her elder sister Venus, who is enjoying a stirring year of revival, has qualified for the elite tournament at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from Oct 22-29. It will be the 37-year-old’s fifth WTA Finals appearance, but her first since 2009, when she lost to Serena in the final in Doha.

The former world No. 1 had previously lifted the Billie Jean King trophy in 2008, defeating Vera Zvonareva.

Venus has enjoyed a fruitful year after reaching two Grand Slam finals at the Australian Open and at Wimbledon. She also made the US Open semi-finals earlier this month.

Those stellar performances gave the American enough rankings points to qualify for the WTA Finals singles event this week along with three other players – Romania’s Simona Halep, Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina and Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova.

World No. 1 Garbine Muguruza of Spain had gone through two weeks ago, leaving only three singles spots to be filled in the coming weeks.

“Each of these players has had incredible seasons, positioning themselves for the opportunity to compete at the year-end finale and hold the prestigious Billie Jean King Trophy,” said Steve Simon, WTA chief executive officer and chairman.
