  • Egbeyemi campaigns for Buhari in market

Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, on Tuesday stormed the Bisi Market in Ado Ekiti to campaign for President Muhammadu Buhari.

Egbeyemi, during the market campaign, also canvassed support for all the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for federal and state legislative seats in the February 16 and March 2 elections respectively.

He was joined at the market outreach by former Deputy Governor Prof. Modupe Adelabu and other party stalwarts.

The Deputy Governor, who built the market during his tenure as Ado Ekiti Local Government Chairman, said residents have much to gain if they vote for APC candidates at all levels.

According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Odunayo Ogunmola, Egbeyemi particularly called on Igbo traders to cast their votes for Buhari and APC National Assembly candidates on Saturday at all the polling units in the area.

He also urged the electorate to vote for the APC House of Representatives candidate for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 1, Mr. Olusola Fatoba; House of Assembly candidate for Ado Constituency 1; Oluwatoyin Lucas and House of Assembly candidate for Ado Constituency 2, Mrs. Adekemi Famuagun-Balogun.

Egbeyemi described the candidates as loyal, tested, trusted and competent to contribute to law enactment that would bring better life to the electorate.

The deputy governor enjoined all residents of Ogbon Ado and Ogbon Oba areas within the vicinity of the market to troop out en masse and vote APC to continue to enjoy good governance at state and federal levels.

Egbeyemi stressed that although he won his unit and ward at last year’s governorship poll, he was not satisfied with the total number of votes recorded.

Describing general elections as “family vote,” Egbeyemi urged all registered voters, especially the traders to vote overwhelmingly this time around for the APC.

Massive votes for the APC, according to him, would afford the state government to make demands for federal appointments and projects that would be beneficial to the people.

Ekiti State Government has introduced electronic receipt (e-receipt) as part of reforms in the collection of taxes and revenue generation.

The state Deputy Governor, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, said the use of e-receipt would block loopholes through which the state revenue finds its way into private pockets.

Egbeyemi said this while hosting the national executive officers of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) led by its President, Chief Cyril Ede, in Ado-Ekiti.

Egbeyemi said with the introduction of e-receipt, no revenue officer in the state was permitted to take cash from members of the public

The deputy governor warned people of the state against patronizing middlemen or touts to pay money into any government account.

He added that the government had also introduced the Direct Bank Lodgment System (DBLS) which would assist in blocking leakages and boost IGR of the State.

According to him, the state government has hired consultants that will be working round the clock to ensure that no revenue will be lost.

Egbeyemi explained that with the engagement of consultants, the state now has two operational electronic platforms which are the Auto-reg and e-receipt centre.

Egbeyemi also called on the people to assist the administration by paying their taxes as and when due to assist the government to provide better service and more social amenities.

“We know the importance of taxation, it assists the government to perform its responsibilities and we urge our people to always pay their taxes.

“Regular payment of taxes will boost our IGR and we want our people to be committed to payment of taxes for Ekiti to depend less on allocations coming from the Federal Government,” Egbeyemi said in a statement.

Earlier, Ede said that CITN, in Ekiti for its joint district society meeting, assists in providing manpower need and professionals in the nation’s tax system.

The CITN boss, who advocated autonomy for the states’ Internal Revenue Services (IRS), said revenue could be increased through pragmatic reforms of the tax system.

He also used the forum to request for allocation of land to build the state secretariat of the institute.

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, on Friday said the ruling party, All Progressives Congress would not indulge in vote-buying in the forthcoming elections.

Egbeyemi said APC will not engage in any filthy practice that can cast a pall on the party, saying APC led government monumental achievements and President Buhari’s integrity would serve as a pointer.

Speaking while inaugurating the APC Ekiti Central senatorial Campaign council for the 2019 elections, Egbeyemi, said the only thing he foresaw that can dim the chances of the party is act of betrayal.

The Council is to campaign across the 57 wards in the district for the victories of President Muhammadu Buhari and senatorial candidate, Hon Opeyemi Bamidele, the House of Representatives candidates in constituencies 1 and II, Hon Sola Fatoba and Hon Wunmi Ogiunlola respectively and the House of Assembly candidates in the next elections.

Egbeyemi said : “The task is not too much for us to achieve. We are here today because Bamidele didn’t die during the gunshot of June 1, 2018. God specifically preserved him for the senatorial ticket, because he will win.

“We are not going to buy votes, we are not used to it. Even those who did it in the last election got instant punishment. All we need to tell our people is that our candidates will do well the way governor Kayode Fayemi has been doing”, he stated.

“The laudable achievement of President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Fayemi within his first 100 days in office was enough to serve as a pointer to the people of Ekiti State to vote massively for APC in the coming polls”

“When I saw the list of the council, I had a conclusion that these were people that own the district, so the job has been made easier if only we can go home and work hard.

” I want you to embark on house to house campaign and let people know Fayemi has started well and ready to do more to deliver dividends of good governance”, he said.

He advised members of the All Progressives Congress(APC) not to betray the party for their candidates to be victorious in the next elections.

The senatorial candidate of the party in Ekiti Central, Hon Bamidele said the candidates in the district will run a joint campaign since it is about the survival of the party and not about individual.

The APC state Chairman, Barr. Paul Omotoso urged members to avoid division and educate voters to reduce the number of void votes that affected the party in the last governorship election.

Omotoso urged them to begin voter education, bemoaning that the party lost over 18,000 votes to poor voting in the last governorship election held in the state thereby reducing the margin of defeat to 19,000.

” No one can be willing to join PDP today, because it is crisis-ridden. So, as we are trying to poach good people in the opposition, don’t allow crisis that can dissuade those who want to join us. We must work as a team for these coming polls.

“We are not going to tolerate a situation whereby you will be our member and you will vote for PDP on the day of election.

Omotoso added that the PDP is no longer a credible alternative in Ekiti and Nigeria at large, saying any APC member who betrays the party shall pay for it dearly.

Going by its composition, the Deputy governor is the Grand Patron of the council, while Chief J.F. Alake is the Chairman and is to be co-chaired by Chief Remi Oguntuase.
