  • Why young Nigerians must monitor blood pressure

Why young Nigerians must monitor blood pressure

Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is often perceived as a condition affecting older adults. But evidence from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and research in Nigeria shows that this assumption is dangerously outdated. As the silent killer spreads across all age groups, including young adults, regular blood pressure monitoring has never been more important.

High blood pressure occurs when the force of blood against artery walls remains persistently high—defined clinically as a systolic reading of 140 mmHg or higher, or a diastolic reading of 90 mmHg or higher. It significantly raises the risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, heart failure and premature death. The only way to know one’s blood pressure status is through measurement. There are no reliable symptoms until serious complications have already developed.

Globally, an estimated 1.4 billion adults aged 30–79 years were living with hypertension in 2024, representing roughly one‑third of the adult population in that age range. Alarmingly, nearly half of them are unaware of their condition, and only about one in five has their blood pressure under control. This means most people at risk are undiagnosed, untreated or inadequately managed.

Uncontrolled high blood pressure is a major cause of premature death worldwide, contributing to more than 10 million deaths annually due to cardiovascular events like heart attacks and strokes. Despite being both preventable and treatable, the condition continues to escalate, particularly in low‑ and middle‑income countries where health systems often struggle to provide routine chronic disease care.

In Nigeria, where the population now exceeds 200 million, hypertension is a growing public health challenge. According to health data, the prevalence of high blood pressure among adults varies significantly by region and study design, but rates are uniformly high. Estimates suggest that about one in every three adults has elevated blood pressure. Awareness, treatment and control rates are low in Nigeria, exacerbating the risk of complications at younger ages.

A report by the Nigerian Hypertension Society shows that less than 2.5 per cent of Nigerians with hypertension have achieved successful blood pressure control — despite an estimated 31 per cent prevalence. Only about one‑third of those affected are aware of their condition, and only a small fraction receive regular treatment. This low control rate reflects gaps in screening, access to care, medication adherence and routine monitoring.

Research in Nigeria also reveals that young adults are far from immune. A study across several Nigerian states found that nearly one in five young adults (aged under 30) had raised blood pressure. This dispels the myth that hypertension is exclusively a disease of older adults and highlights the urgent need for targeted screening and education among younger age groups.

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is increasingly affecting young Nigerians, driven by lifestyle, stress, and broader social factors. Rapid urbanisation, sedentary work, unhealthy diets high in salt and processed foods, excessive alcohol, and tobacco use all contribute to early elevation of blood pressure. Chronic stress—from economic pressures, career demands, and social expectations—further strains the cardiovascular system. Rising rates of overweight and obesity among urban youth intensify the risk. Many young people assume they are “too young” for hypertension, delaying health checks until a life-threatening event, such as a heart attack or stroke, occurs. Unlike visible illnesses, high blood pressure is often silent, making routine monitoring critical.

The World Health Organization emphasises that regular blood pressure checks—at clinics, pharmacies, outreach programs, or at home with validated devices—empower individuals to understand and manage their cardiovascular risk. Early detection enables lifestyle interventions such as reduced salt intake, regular exercise, stress management, limiting alcohol, quitting smoking, and timely medical treatment, all of which significantly reduce long-term complications. For young Nigerians, integrating routine blood pressure checks into annual health assessments is a simple, life-saving step. Awareness today preserves heart health, prevents costly complications, and ensures a better quality of life tomorrow.

  • Top 5 foods that can help lower blood pressure naturally

Top 5 foods that can help lower blood pressure naturally

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is a serious health problem that affects people around the world. It’s called a “silent killer” because it can lead to heart attacks, strokes, and kidney failure without any clear warning signs. That’s why it’s important to keep your blood pressure in a healthy range.

Eating healthy, staying active, and taking medicine if needed can help. But some foods may also help lower blood pressure.

Here are five heart-smart choices that experts say can make a difference:

    1. Bananas

Bananas are a tasty fruit packed with potassium, a mineral that helps your body flush out extra sodium, a main cause of high blood pressure. Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a Harvard- and Stanford-trained doctor, says adding bananas to your diet is a simple way to support heart health.

    2. Dark Chocolate

Believe it or not, dark chocolate can be good for your heart! It’s rich in magnesium and flavonoids, which help blood vessels relax. A study review found that cocoa with flavanols slightly lowered blood pressure. Choose chocolate with at least 70% cocoa and enjoy it in moderation

    3. Beets

Beets are full of natural nitrates that turn into nitric oxide in the body. This helps widen blood vessels and improve blood flow, lowering blood pressure. Add beets to salads, smoothies, or roast them for a healthy, colourful meal.

    4. Pomegranates

Pomegranate juice is loaded with antioxidants called polyphenols. These may lower a chemical in your body called ACE, which helps control blood pressure. Studies show pomegranate juice can lower both top and bottom blood pressure numbers.

    5. Ginger

Ginger is more than just a spice—it’s heart-healthy too. It helps relax blood vessels like a natural medicine and supports better circulation. Add ginger to teas, stir-fries, or smoothies. Just don’t overdo it, as too much can upset your stomach.

Adding these foods to your meals can be a smart step toward a healthier heart. Always talk to your doctor before making big changes to your diet

  • Five edibles that can help lower blood pressure

Five edibles that can help lower blood pressure

Maintaining a normal blood pressure level is crucial for overall health, with a reading typically not above 120/80 mmHg considered normal.

However, blood pressure readings consistently exceeding 130/80 mmHg can indicate hypertension, where the force of blood against the artery walls is too high. If left unchecked, high blood pressure can lead to chronic diseases, making it essential to take control.

One of the most effective ways to lower blood pressure is through dietary choices.

Here are some healthy foods that can help you manage your blood pressure:

    1. Bananas:

Rich in potassium, fiber, and vitamin C, bananas can help lower blood pressure. A medium-sized banana contains about 375 milligrams of potassium, contributing to improved cardiovascular health.

    2. Blueberries:

Packed with anthocyanins—plant pigments that promote heart health—blueberries can help reduce the production of molecules that restrict blood flow. They also contain resveratrol, a compound known to relax blood vessels.

    3. Dark Chocolate:

High in flavonoid cacao, dark chocolate is a powerful antioxidant that helps dilate blood vessels, leading to lower blood pressure.

    4. Nuts:

Nuts, such as walnuts and almonds, are rich in magnesium and potassium, which have been shown to reduce blood pressure. Additionally, their fiber and healthy fat content helps regulate cholesterol levels, further supporting heart health.

    5. Spices:

Reducing salt intake is vital for managing blood pressure. Instead, season your meals with herbs and spices like basil, thyme, cinnamon, turmeric, chili powder, and onion powder. These not only enhance flavor but also promote heart health.

Incorporating these foods into your diet can play a significant role in controlling blood pressure and enhancing overall cardiovascular health.

  • BLOOD PRESSURE

    BLOOD PRESSURE

A young woman is behind an innovative tech and logistics start up designed to help meet Nigeria’s critical need for more and safer blood supplies.

    By Àtọ́kẹ́ for BellaNaija

Temie Giwa-Tubosun is the 32-year-old creative force behind LifeBank, an innovative approach to healthcare that can mean the difference between life and death.

Born in Ila Orangun, Giwa-Tubosun lived in Nigeria until the age of 15, when she joined her parents in the United States. She was intent on becoming a lawyer until she participated in a mock United Nations—suddenly, she knew that Africa was her destiny.

On a past short trip to Kano, Nigeria, Giwa-Tubosun worked with a non-governmental organization that provides health services to impoverished women in northern Nigeria. One of those women was Aisha, who died as a result of post-partum hemorrhaging. There was no blood available for her, so Giwa-Tubosun and other healthcare workers could only look on helplessly. “I will never forgot her courage in the face of unimaginable pain,” said Giwa-Tubosun. “She inspires my work every single day.”

Giwa-Tubosun was determined to find an answer. Her resolve was amplified when she gave birth to her own son and experienced the same problems Aisha did. “I survived because I was in the United States and was lucky though to have access to good healthcare,” said Giwa-Tubosun. “After that, I decided to move back home to Nigeria and help solve the problem of maternal mortality.”

According to the World Health Organization, shortages of essential supplies, especially blood, cause 26,000 women to die in childbirth in Nigeria every year; worldwide, these shortages are the highest cause of maternal mortality. To tackle the problem, Giwa-Tubosun first spent a year consulting with experts, learning as much as she could. “I soon realized that the problem was much larger than I had thought—it affects women, of course, but also children under five who have malaria, accident victims, cancer patients, kidney dialysis patients, people in car accidents…. In fact, one out of three people entering a hospital needs blood.”

She also discovered that the problem went beyond blood shortages: Hospitals didn’t know which blood bank had the blood type they needed on any given day, and blood was not transported in the right conditions or delivered quickly enough.

So she and two young IT experts sat down at her kitchen table in Lagos, and after many meals and long discussions, they came up with the application that was the bedrock of LifeBank, launched in December 2015. “Basically, we use our platform to help hospitals locate essential medical supplies such as blood, oxygen and vaccines, and we deliver these supplies to them, maintaining the proper conditions along the way,” said Giwa-Tubosun. Revenues are derived from delivery fees charged to hospitals.

The Life Bank team uses a combination of technology, big data and smart logistics.
“We have about 40 blood banks on our platform,” said Giwa-Tubosun. “Each is located in a different area. So for instance, if a hospital in Epe calls for blood, we contact our blood banks closest to Epe and dispatch a driver to make the pick up.” LifeBank guarantees a 55-minute delivery window and uses a cold-chain system that keeps blood, plasma and platelets viable even in Nigeria’s hot and humid climate. Deliveries are made on motorbikes to get around Lagos’s traffic and poor infrastructure, and transport boxes have Bluetooth padlocks, ensuring that only the intended recipient can open them.

“How we do the rest is our secret sauce!” said Giwa-Tubosun. She will say though that blood drives are also vital to LifeBank’s strategy. “We hold four every year. “During the last one, we collected 123 pints of blood—one pint can save three lives!—and we also have about 5,000 volunteer donors on our platform. We don’t make any money from this, we do it because we believe it is important to ensure there is enough blood in the market.”

Giwa-Tubosun says that her innovations are transforming the way both blood banks and hospitals operate. “Blood banks with excellent products and processes are rated higher on our platform,” she said. “This gives them visibility to hundreds of potential new customers, which in turn helps them earn more and invest more in better testing and processes.” As for hospitals, LifeBank helps them save lives more quickly, more safely and at less expense. “The hospitals we work with no longer need to send an ambulance and staff just to pick up a few pints of blood when a patient needs it,” said Giwa-Tubosun.

She would like to see her concept become a reality for all of Nigeria’s hospitals, but that will take time. The country’s population is almost 200 million; Lagos State, the base for LifeBank’s operations, has almost 18 million residents. The numbers seem daunting, but in its first two years and with less than $50,000 USD in funding, Life Bank signed up 94 hospitals, delivered more than 8,000 units of blood—and saved 1,800 lives.

This past January, investors pledged another $200,000 to LifeBank, and Giwa-Tubosun now plans to expand operations to the Nigerian capital of Abuja and the northern state of Kaduna. Quite an accomplishment in a country where simply being a woman—let alone a woman entrepreneur—can be a daily challenge.

  • World Hypertension Day

    World Hypertension Day

World Hypertension day is celebrated every year on the 17th of May to raise the public awareness about hypertension – its complications and preventive measures.

The theme for this year is “know your blood pressure”, which is coined by the World Hypertension League (WHL).

Hypertension is a condition generally regarded as high blood pressure during which the arterial blood pressure raises to high level from the normal level. It is a medical condition known as “silent killer” as it does not show any clear symptoms. For severe hypertension, symptoms include headaches, sleepiness, blurred vision, fatigue, dizziness, breathing difficulty, irregular heartbeat which may even lead to coma.

We can understand this disease in two ways: primary or essential hypertension and secondary hypertension. The primary hypertension is the most common type, whose cause(s) remains relatively unknown. Whereas, the cause(s) of secondary hypertensionranges fromabuse of meditations, alcoholic drinks, bad food, adrenal problems etc.

It is an inheritable disease which can be transferred to children from their parents with occurrences and history of the disease. Individuals who are diabetic, obese, and drink and smoke are more susceptible to the disease. Some of the complications include: narrowing of arteries, blood clot in brain (Stroke), heart attack, kidney failure, heart failure etc.

It is not easy to treat the primary hypertension but on the contrary, the secondary hypertension, which is a more severe condition can be managed and cured if treated well.

World Hypertension day is one designed to raise the consciousness of the pubic to the fierce urgency of the now to maintain a normal blood pressure. According to research, globally, about 1.8 billion people are suffering from hypertension; the most staggering statistics is that 50% of them are unaware of their condition and some of them who are aware of their condition do not take any medical action towards treatment.

There are basically 4 stages of hypertension; prehypertension, mild, moderate and severe.

The normal blood pressure is 120/80, where 120 represent the peak pressure in the arteries and 80 represent the minimum pressure in the arteries. Blood pressure between 120/80 and 139/89 is called pre-hypertension (to denote increased risk of hypertension), and a blood pressure of 140/90 and above is considered  hypertension.

According to Dr.kodjo Soron, medical Director of Pfizer NEAR, “this silent killer is on high rampage because, people with this condition do not usually exhibit symptoms and if untreated, it damages the arteries and vital organs in the body, and this ignorance can last for years”.

For this reason it is important that blood pressure screening should be done periodically using a monitoring device such as sphygmomanometer, blood pressure meter etc.

Finally, it is a general statement that prevention is better than cure; therefore, prevention of hypertension must be attacked from its primal stage bytaking deliberate decisions to make lifestyle modifications. Also, prevention can be achieved on different levels by eating healthy, maintaining a healthy weight, engage in moderate physical activity, limit alcohol consumption, limit smoking, and consume a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products. Applying these approaches helps prevents blood pressure from increasing and reduces the prevalence of hypertension.

  • 2 Simple and Safe Tricks to Lower Your Blood Pressure In Few Weeks At Home

2 Simple and Safe Tricks to Lower Your Blood Pressure In Few Weeks At Home

If you or anyone you know is diagnosed with HBP, then this article going to be a very important one.

Check out Our Simple Blood Pressure Re  System That Relaxes Nerves, Widens Arteries and Provide The Body With More Energy Without Any Harmful Side Like Your Usual Blood Pressure Medication.

HBP is a very serious condition and should be taken care of in time.

Blood pressure is the measure of the force of blood pushing against blood vessel walls.

The heart pumps blood into the arteries (blood vessels), which then carry the blood throughout the body. High blood pressure (a.k.a hypertension) is dangerous because it makes the heart work harder to pump blood out to the body and contributes to hardening of the arteries and most times lead to stroke, kidney disease, heart failure, etc.

Africa has the highest rate of high blood pressure globally at 46%, according to a new report by the World Health Organisation, which reveals that one in three African adults suffers from the condition..

With this alarming statistics, it is more likely than not that you or someone you know has high blood pressure and is taking medication to get it under control.  And while blood pressure medications are the best way to manage hypertension acutely, sometimes they come with unwelcomed side effects if you’re on them for the long haul. So, is it really worth it to trade one ailment for another?  Probably not!

This brings us to why you need to take a hard look at your eating habits and make smarter food choices so that we can achieve better results.

With the help the information I am about to share in this article, you can easily wean yourself off of your blood pressure medicine, following a dietary approach to stop your hypertension.

Here are the Do’s and Don’ts that you can do daily to help get your body back in balance and normalize your blood pressure in no time.

    (1) Take These Everyday

    Aloe vera:

Aloe vera  is a very good antioxidant… and this will  help you remove the  toxins caused by the that foods we eat. What this will do is prevent blood clot in the arteries as such ease the blood flow.

    Garlic:

Clinical research has determined that garlic inhibits platelet aggregation (stickiness and clumping), which helps thin the blood much like aspirin or thrombolytic drugs do. In a double-blind research study, patients given garlic demonstrated thinner, more slippery blood when compared to matched controls.

Garlic reduces blood pressure, and also reduces fibrinogen (a blood clotting component), preventing the formation of blood clots. Clumped platelets can render you vulnerable to heart attack and cerebrovascular strokes, and garlic’s ability to reduce blood pressure helps lower the risk of these heart issues.

    Omega-3:

This will help you improve blood circulations  and as well prevents and dissolves  blood-clots. And also help boost your immune system.

To make these 3 easily available and consumable, we’ve embedded them as part of our 100% Natural HBP Wellness Program which is available here: CLICK HERE

    (2) Reduce Your Intake of These Two Foods

    1. Reduce your salt intake: The American Heart Association recommends that we reduce our daily salt intake to 1500 milligrams, which can be relatively easy if we ate less processed foods outside and inside of the home.
    2. Reduce the amount of carbohydrates and sugar in your diet: Did you know that your insulin levels also play a major role in hypertension.  Shocking, I know— But true! According to a study, insulin stores magnesium. But if your insulin receptors are not working properly and your cells are resistant to the insulin, then the insulin cannot store the magnesium.  When this happens, the magnesium actually passes from your body— leaving you deficient. This is why we often see hypertension and diabetes together-usually if you have one of these chronic illnesses, you will eventually get the other.  So, it’s important that you reduce your carbs-including whole grains, because they become sugar when metabolized and can lead to insulin resistance. Our bodies are truly miraculous machines, and like our cars, must be fed properly for optimal performance. Incorporating these simple tips daily just might reveal the root cause of why you or someone you know are apart of the one out of three Americans that are suffering from hypertension.

Before you go, Check out Our Simple Blood Pressure Reduction System That Relaxes Nerves, Widens Arteries and Provide The Body With More Energy Without Any Harmful Side Like Your Usual Blood Pressure Medication.

  • ‘Some of us are already down with high blood pressure’

‘Some of us are already down with high blood pressure’

NOBODY had any premonition of a disaster lurking around on a day which happened to be the second Sunday of the year. As usual on a typical Sunday in Ado Ekiti, human and vehicular traffic was light and business at the main market nearby at a low ebb.

Many of the residents, who had attended church services earlier in the day, had retired to their homes preparing for the hard work awaiting them in the new week. The story of another tragedy was not a music to their ears.

Having survived the vicissitudes of the previous year-2016-fire tragedy was the least on their minds but how wrong they were. Around 4.40 pm on that day, Armageddon descended on Ijigbo area of Ado Ekiti, one of the main business districts of the town where a filling station owned by Strive Energy Limited, was gutted by fire.

Business centres affected include a cold room, boutiques, pharmacy, other business offices and vehicles along Ijigbo area of the city. Residents heard a loud bang which was followed by a huge flame as a tanker, which brought a consignment of petrol to the station was discharging its content. Attendants, customers and some passersby fled in different directions.

The ball of fire caught up with at least three pumps in the station before it extended to other buildings on both sides of the road. The fire was raging, they were helpless and in few minutes, thick, black smoke billowed into the sky. By the time the smoke cleared, the petrol station and about 24 shops were razed down by fire which raged for over two hours.

An eyewitness disclosed that fire broke after a tanker that had arrived the filling station to discharge fuel and the content spilled flowed through the gutter in the area, which made fire to extend to other places.

Another eyewitness claimed that the smoke emitted from the tanker for almost 20 minutes but the whole place reportedly caught fire when a driver who was queuing for fuel suddenly switched on the engine of his vehicle. Most of the shops were firmly locked as it was on a Sunday with all the goods inside them consumed by the inferno, which also affected electric cables in the area.

Vehicles belonging to the Police and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were used to block the dual carriage way to prevent moving vehicles from catching fire.

The blockade of the highway caused a traffic snarl which extended from Old Garage, Ijigbo to Ajilosun, Ikere Road.

Hoodlums cashed in on the fire outbreak to loot many shops while pretending to help in salvaging the goods from being burnt. The looting spree was stopped by armed riot policemen deployed in the scene.

Many of the shop owners visited the area on Monday to find their business centres in ruins. They wept uncontrollably as their ware had gone up in flames leaving them empty, hollow and inconsolable.

A victim, who simply identified himself as Mr. Oguntuase, said he lost his building located on Mugbagba Street in Ijigbo, urging Fayose to come to the aid of those whose property were razed. He disclosed that he was shocked to learn of the fire when he was called on the phone rushing to the scene only to find his house from which he derives income reduced to ashes.

Oguntuase said: “I lost my house on 21, Ejigbo Street, by Mogbagba junction to the inferno. There are four rooms and four shops in the house. I thank God that the people around were able to rescue my children who were in the house when the fire broke out.

“My wife and I were not at home. But I rushed back home when I was called that our house was on fire. We lost all our property in the house and the walls of the building collapsed during the inferno. I want to appeal to our government at all levels.

“The good Lord will bless them as they make up their minds to assist us to cushion the effect of the consequence of this tragic development. We just need the government to be compassionate with us.

“There are some of my tenants who rented the now razed shops, they had been sick and bedridden before the tragic incident occurred. There is a man whose ware in one of the shops were all burnt. That has been the family’s only means of livelihood. We have to urge the wife not to tell the man about the tragedy on his shop yet because the man was already down with high temperature and would not be strong enough to receive such bad news.

“I just want to urge the governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, to show some level of human feeling by reaching out to us. He should not see us as wretched people who he can ignore because God is always on the side of the downtrodden.

“Our governor had shown that he is a very humane governor. He directed that the government house fire service vehicles be brought to contain the fire and he was up and doing during the process of putting out the fire. That is a very compassionate man. He has no relatives among those who fell victim of this disaster but he had come to identify with us and help us that day because he realised that God made him our leader so he can help us.

“The same God will take care of him and family. We appreciate his effort and appeal to him to kindly see to how he can help us in any little way.”

Ayodele Omotoso, a barber whose father’s house, a two-room apartment with a shop, was razed by the fire in Ijigbo, said: “The whole thing we have in the house and the shop was razed because none of us was around. It was on a Sunday and we had all gone to the church. We lost some property worth N1.9 million.”

Mr. Shadrach Obi , who is from Anambra State but has been living in Ado Ekiti for over 30 years, revealed that all the goods he purchased and stocked inside his shop were bought with his savings when he travelled home during the last Christmas for a burial in his village.

He disclosed that not less than 15 Igbo traders were affected by the inferno, revealing that many of them are down with hypertension. Obi also disclosed that he lost goods worth N2.9 million.

Obi said: “Before I travelled to the East for the burial of a relative, I used all the money I had to buy goods into the shop because one could not save such money in the bank at that festive period. We have lost N2.9 million of goods which were drinks, provisions and clothing materials, among others. We lost our big deep freezer, generating set and many others. I was not in Ado Ekiti when the tragedy struck.

“I was called while I was at the village and my family is still at home. I can tell you that with the level of the damage the fire has caused, some people may lose their lives as they have all lost what they have and what they worth.

“This is while I want to appeal to government at all levels to kindly and promptly come to our aide. Do something that one can at least hang on with for some time. We appreciate what governor Fayose has done. He was with the victims to assist us. I saw the pictures on face book and the papers. No governor has ever done that. It shows how compassionate he is. Those of us who are Ibo traders who fell victim to this fire incident are more than 15 and we have lost over N25 million to the inferno.”

Sunday Fagunwa, who sells clocks and wristwatches, said he lost about N5 million worth of goods in his shop. He alleged that the petrol station gutted by fire did not have fire extinguisher.

He said: “We believed the fire incident was aggravated because the filling station did not have fire extinguisher. Immediately the tanker burst into flame, all of them just ran away from the station and left the fuel to ooze out of the tanker which took the fire to all the shops, offices and house it razed.”

Another shop owner, Mrs. Folashade Oguntuase, who is selling some provisions in her shop, said she lost N150,000 worth of her ware to the fire.

She said: “The money which I lost to the fire was borrowed and I don’t have any other means of refunding it. I appeal to the government to please assist me as the was my only means of livelihood.”

Mr. Francis Ezenwaka regretted that he lost N15million worth of goods in two shops he owned in the area saying he does not know where to begin again having been rendered “economically naked” by the incident.

His words: “I am an Igbo man born in Ondo and based in Ekiti. I have two shops, one in which I am selling mattresses, carpets, curtains and rugs. The other where I’m selling roofing sheets on Akure Road. All the two shops have been razed by the fire. I lost over N15 million worth of goods in the two shops. We found out that the man didn’t have fire extingusher in the office; that was why the fire was that much.

“When the fire broke out, the staff just ran away leaving the nozzle from the pump to continue spilling fuel to all the places; it razed shops, offices and houses. It is a pity that we have been left naked economically because all my investment is gone now.”

High blood pressure is a common condition in which the long-term force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease.

But it is now proven you can get over high blood pressure permanently without been stock to a life time of blood pressure medication.

Evidence from researches and alternative medicines have shown that the root cause of high blood pressure can be reversed and consequent elimination of high blood pressure is possible through alternative therapy, a therapeutic approach different from conventional medicine. Before you jump and try something new in your quest to overcome high blood pressure and its complications you need to know a few things about your drugs, how they actually work and what makes the lasting difference.

Most blood pressure lowering drugs work is to lower the blood pressure not to address the actual cause of high blood pressure. The reason they have to be taken for a life time.

But Nutritherapy is not to lower blood pressure but to release essential biomolecules to the body that address the cause of the increasing blood pressure.

For example the component of a nutritherapy that I have known for years and that I can certified to reverse high blood pressure completely is nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a component of endothelial-derived relaxing factor within blood vessels.

The endothelium is the lining inside blood vessels. This nitric oxide relax and dilate blood vessels and increases endothelial flexibility. This alone effectively takes care of arterial constriction (narrowing of the arteries) which is the primary cause of high blood pressure.

As against the mechanism of action of blood pressure lowering drugs.

For example the popular blood pressure lowering drug Amlodipine is well known for it ability to generate erectile dysfunction in men

Amlodipine (Amlodipine 5mg or Amlodipine 10mg) is a Calcium channel blockers (CCB).

Calcium channel antagonists or calcium antagonists are several medications that disrupt the movement of calcium ion (Ca2+) through calcium channels. Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion influx across cell membranes.

Recent study show that 75% to 80% of men that have being on Amlodipine for up to six months developed erectile dysfunction (weak erection of the penis) as side effect alongside other conditions like pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest or chest pain or heavy feeling, Sexual dysfunctions especially weak erection, Feelings like something is moving around your chest, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder e.t.c

This difference in mechanism of action draws the demarcation line between conventional medicine and alternative therapy.

Conventional medicines work by inhibiting one normal biological process or the other to effect blood pressure lowering. But alternative medicine works at the fundamental level to correct anomalies that give rise to the disease

Other components of this certified high blood pressure therapy are:

Fatty Acid. One of the causes of high blood pressure is the build up of cholesterol in blood vessels. Fatty acid remove cholesterol, slow the development of plaque in the arteries and reduce the chance of abnormal heart rhythm.

Natural Coenzyme Q-10. Coenzyme Q-10 (CoQ-10) is a vitamin-like substance found throughout the body, but especially in the heart, liver, kidney, and pancreas. CoQ10 normalize blood pressure by decreasing resistance of blood vessel walls.

Improves the metabolic function of the cells and the antioxidant properties of coenzyme Q10 help normalize cellular chemistry and promote optimal tone and compliance of the elastic vessel walls.

Garlic allicin. The active ingredient in garlic is known to be allicin (diallyl thiosulfinate).

Breakdown of this compound results in hyperpolarization of the vascular smooth muscle cells. Hyperpolarization of these cells causes vasodilation or vascular relaxation that facilitates regulation of blood pressure.

The synergetic effects of these natural medicines naturally help to treat the high blood pressure effectively and permanently.
