    Bob-Manuel Udokwu reacts to ‘crush’ title from fans

    Veteran actor, Bob-Manuel Udokwu, has expressed heartfelt gratitude and humility after fans affectionately dubbed him a “crush” over the years.

    On The Morning Brief, Udokwu discussed his acting career, political journey, and fans’ relationships.

    Regarding the “crush” title, Udokwu said: “I see those who called me their crush as satisfied customers… Your fanbase is huge because they’re satisfied with what you’re doing, and I’m not surprised.”

    He reminisced about his University of Port Harcourt days, where his talents made him a campus sensation.

    He explained: “Back in the days when I was in the University of Port Harcourt, everybody from the vice chancellor to the security at the gate knew me because I was very active. Thank God for providing me the platform in Checkmate to be able to let the world see the talents he has given me.”

    Expressing his gratitude, the actor added: “At some point in my career, I became the anchor of Gulder Ultimate Search, the first, biggest, and best reality television in the country and now I have the record of being the longest anchorperson. So when people express their satisfaction or admiration of my work as an actor, I feel humbled happy, and thankful to God for the opportunity.”

    Bob-Manuel Udokwu reacts to Idris Elba’s cast as Okonkwo in “Things Fall Apart” adaptation

    Seasoned actor Bob-Manuel Udokwu has weighed in on Idris Elba’s potential casting as Okonkwo in the upcoming TV adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s classic novel “Things Fall Apart”.

    In an interview with Channels TV, Udokwu, while acknowledging Elba’s talent, emphasised the importance of casting Nigerian actors in leading roles, especially in stories deeply rooted in Nigerian culture.

    “There’s this conversation about Idris Elba being cast to play Okonkwo in Hollywood’s make of Things Fall Apart.

    “I don’t have anything against that as an actor but I think we have top-class actors in Nigeria who can play that role even better, knowing where the story is coming from,” he said.

    He also welcomed the growing collaboration between Nollywood and international film industries, revealing his current project features actors from Bollywood and Hollywood.

    Previous adaptations of “Things Fall Apart” include a film and miniseries, notably starring Pete Edochie as Okonkwo.

    The A24 series, executive produced by Idris Elba and Gina Carter, is currently in development.
