Abia Warriors are 15th on the Nigeria elite division log with 36 points from 29 games despite making a blistering start in the first half of the season.

“I wish to inform you that I have resigned as coach of Abia Warriors after due consultation with my family,” Boboye told Goal.

    Boboye faces allegation of sabotage

The chief coach of Abia Warriors, Kennedy Boboye has been accused of sabotage by the supporters of the Umuahia based outfit.

The reaction of the fans is coming on the heels of the club’s poor performance in recent times which culminated in a scandalous 5-0 defeat in the hands of Kano Pillars last Sunday.

Some of the aggrieved supporters alleged that the club’s dip in form started immediately after Boboye was appointed as one of the assistant coaches of the Super Eagles in the friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg.

Another section of the supporters were of the view that Boboye’s reported link to another NPFL side, Akwa United may have posed a source of distraction to the mandate given to him by the club to win a continental ticket at the end of the season.

“Boboye started well by guiding the team to very good results but after he was linked with the Akwa United job, the club began experiencing dwindling fortunes,” a fan disclosed.

“We thought his experience with the Super Eagles will rob off positively on Abia Warriors but since he returned from the national team his attitude and work ethics have been poor.As a professional, he needs to concentrate on his job to avoid a situation where the club will miss out on another continental ticket at the end of the season,”another supporter said.

    Boboye calls derby tough win

Abia Warriors head coach, Kennedy Boboye has described as tough the oriental derby win against neighbours, Heartland.

The Warriors piped the Naze Millionaires 1-0 in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 23 clash at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

Uche Ihuarulam’s 29th minute goal proved adequate to hand his side the three points at stake and a double for the Warriors in the on-going top-flight.

Boboye said the hard fought victory will serve as a morale boost when they confront sister club and champions, Enyimba in a rescheduled NPFL matchday 12 at the side’s adopted home in Umuahia.

“We give thanks to God for the hard fought victory, it was not an easy one, Heartland came out wholly smoking to no avail in the second half for an equaliser.

“I’m happy we sustained the heat and ended up winners at the end of the crunch encounter.

“Of course, we knew it won’t be an easy game being a local derby more so as the visiting side have a score to settle and it lived up to pre-match predictions.

“There are still flaws noted among the players, especially their stamina we will work on it before the next game.

“Of course, the win against Heartland is going to be a huge boost when we engage Enyimba on Wednesday in the rescheduled match in Umuahia,” said the former Sunshine Stars coach to supersport.com.

Abia Warriors take their total earnings to 32 from possible 66 in the 22-week old Nigerian top-flight.
