Alimi blasts Bobrisky over reaction on arrested Delta gay suspects

A British-Nigerian gay rights activist, Bisi Alimi has tongue-lashed a popular cross-dresser claiming to be a transgender woman, Bobrisky over a comment on arrested Delta gay suspects.

The HIV/LGBT advocate lambasted Bob for stating the arrested guys deserved the treatment they received.

In the wake of the arrest of the suspected homosexuals by the Delta police command, the Instagram celebrity insisted they deserved all the treatment being meted out to them as a result of their actions.

The 32-year-old Bob chided the suspects for ignoring the laws of the country and conducting a gay wedding.

According to ‘her’, they ought to have learnt from other A-list homosexuals who swiftly relocated to other climes where they have the freedom to flaunt their sexuality.

Bob wrote: “Hey guys!!! I want to quickly address those set of guys who were arrested in Delta. You see dis class is not actually meant for everyone. But I strongly believe you can learn from those Alist.

“Firstly there’s a law passed against you guys that you can’t marry urself in dis country why d hell did you all call urself together to organize a wedding? That’s d dumbest news have read dis week.

“You all deserve how you all were treated sad truth. If you feel you are in love with ur partner and you want to be together why not relocate to where you are welcome?” (sic)

He said Bob belonged with the thrash and wasn’t an entity to ‘have an opinion about issues’.

He wrote: “I don’t intend to say anything about the situation in Warri, but I have one thing to say and it is one simple thing, Bobrisky is a fool and an idiot.

“I blame the people that make this sorry case of human important. She belongs in the gutter and not one to have an opinion about issues.”

Controversial Instagram personality, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky has reacted to arrest of the suspected homosexuals by the Delta Police Command.

‘He’ said they deserve all the treatment meted out to them as a result of their actions.

The well-known cross dresser claiming to be transgender woman chided the suspects for ignoring the laws of the country and conducting a gay wedding.

According to Bob, they ought to have learnt from other A-list homosexuals that swiftly relocated to other climes where they have the freedom to flaunt their sexuality.

As for those tagging the Bob to the 67 arrested homosexual suspects post on social media, ‘she’ indicated he’d rather ignore them and focus on making money.

The 31-year-old added: “And to those who are tagging me well I’m now a change bob that now ignored so many rubbish on Instagram lately. I’m focusing on money not rubbish.” (Sic)

He said the suspects were nabbed during a gay wedding which they tagged, “all white party” at a popular hotel off Refinery Road, Uvwie LGA.

He vowed to prosecute the suspects in line with Nigeria’s anti-gay law which prohibited same-sex marriage in the country.

  • Inside the ‘risky’ life of Bobrisky

Inside the ‘risky’ life of Bobrisky

Bobrisky’s story is not easy to tell. The first problem is deciding what pronoun to use. By the circumstances of his birth, ‘he’ is the right pronoun, but by what Bobrisky has chosen, ‘she’ is  correct.

“Tani bro e? (Who is your bro?). I’m a fine babe,” Bobrisky once replied a commentator who referred to him as a man.

There is also no agreement on whether or not he is a transvestite or just a crossdresser.

    Who is Bobrisky?

A primary school mate said he had always behaved like a woman trapped in a  man’s body.

In a video, which was uploaded on YouTube on January 19, 2018, a dark man sporting a white bathrobe on a white t-shirt, is sitting on a brown sofa.

There is a gold chain around his neck and in his right hand is a wad of N1,000 notes and a glass of wine.

He pulls out note after note with his left hand and places it on the waist of a light-skinned dancer in a black tight-fitting trouser and crop top, shaking a slim bottom in his face.

The man kisses the tips of his left palm and touches the dancer’s waist excitedly before the video stops playing.

The video is titled ‘Bobrisky twerking for her sugar daddy’.

The dancer in the 11-second video is popular transvestite, Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, his name on social media platform, Snap Chat.

Idris, from Ijebu Igbo in Ogun State, was born male on August 31, 1992 at Ebute Meta, Lagos Mainland.

He attended secondary school at the prestigious King’s College, Lagos, before bagging a BSc from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

He was a very good dancer, choreographer and make-up artist at the university. In May 2019, Bobrisky stated on his instagram profile that his pronouns are “she” and “her”.

    Going viral

It is not clear when Idris became the cross-dressing Bobrisky, but he went viral in October 2016, when President Muhammadu Buhari’s social media aide, Bashir Ahmad, pulled out of appearing with him on a social media panel in Abuja.

“The organisers invited me to speak on the fact that people are talking about Bobrisky,” the then 25-year-old told AFP.

He added: “Withdrawing wasn’t nice. In Nigeria, the majority of people here judge you so fast.”

According to AFP, he often recounted online how his lifestyle was funded by a rich, mystery man he referred to only as “bae.

A few years earlier, a video surfaced of Bobrisky being stripped by the police of the female clothing he was wearing. Two sachets of water – pseudo breasts – were pulled out of the low neck gown.

    Controversies

Bobrisky, who turned 28 on Saturday, fled his Lekki, Lagos neighbourhood to evade arrest following the deployment of policemen to scuttle his planned birthday celebrations.

He had planned a birthday bash at the Pearls Gardens in Lekki Phase 1 on Saturday and another at the Paradise Boat Club, Victoria Island on Sunday.

But Police Commissioner Zubairu Muazu ordered the deployment of water-tight security to ensure the party did not hold and also arrest Bobrisky and other crossdressers or homosexuals who planned to attend.

The Nation gathered that five suspected members of Bobrisky’s club were arrested for breach of the public peace and indecency.

According to the police, the government would not allow continuous breach of existing laws, noting that allowing the public display of actions that could corrupt young people was inimical to national consciousness.

Earlier in the week, the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, threatened to go after Bobrisky and others like him, describing the cross-dresser as “a disgrace to the nation.” Bobrisky replied by saying Runsewe was a small fry.

The police had earlier in the year warned all homosexuals to flee the country or be dealt with in accordance with the Anti-Same Sex Marriage Law which prescribes a 14-year jail term for all persons involved in a homosexual relationship.

Former Public Relations Officer of the Zone 2 Police Command, Mrs Dolapo Badmos, had said: “If you are homosexually inclined, Nigeria is not a place for you. There is a law here that criminalises homosexual clubs, associations, and organisations with penalties of up to 14 years in jail.

“So, if you are a homosexual in nature, leave the country or face prosecution. But before you say, ‘does this matter?’ Kindly note that anything against the law of the land is criminal and all crimes will be punished accordingly no matter how small you think it is.”

    What the law says

The law Badmos is referring to is the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act of 2013. It says a person who registers, operates or participates in gay clubs, societies or organisations, directly or indirectly makes a public show of same-sex amorous relationship in Nigeria commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a term of 10 years. Anyone convicted of entering into a same-sex marriage contract or civil union faces up to 14 years imprisonment.

    Pronouns controversy

Following the police’s raid, Nigerians on social media were divided over the use of the pronoun he to refer to Bobrisky.

Bisi Alimi, a gay man and advocate for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights cautioned that the right pronoun for Bobrisky is ‘she’ and ‘her’.

“Dear #Nigeria allies, the correct pronoun for #Bobrisky is “She/Her”. Using this will help reduce stigma and show that you really care. You can’t use a wrong pronoun and say you are an ally,” he tweeted.

“Just In: Bobrisky on the run as Police Storms. Shutdown venue if his 27th birthday celebration in Lekki, chase away everyone,” Iselaiye tweeted to which Ogunmuyiwa replied, “HER!!! Her pronouns are she/her!!! And this us transmisogynistic violence.”

Another user, @whoislateef, mockingly asked, “So which cell will they put Bobrisky Female cell: Naaaah Male cell: Honeymoon.”

What does the future hold for the like of Bobrisky?

A 2017 survey by NOI Polls compared attitudes towards LGBT people in Nigeria against a 2015 poll.

It found a seven per cent increase in acceptance of LGBT people, and a nine per cent rise to 39 per cent of those surveyed who think that LGBT people should be allowed equal access to public services, such as healthcare, education and housing.

However, the poll showed a four per cent increase to 90 per cent of Nigerians who support the criminalisation of same-sex relationships, and no change in the proportion of Nigerians who believe that the country would be a better place with no LGBT people, also 90 per cent.

Will Nigerian society ever accept cross-dressing and other LGBT lifestyles, such as Bobrisky’s? Only time will tell.

  • I’m ready to return the phone, Nina tells Bobrisky

Former Big Brother Naija housemate Nina, is not having any of the humiliation brought to her by cross-dresser, Bobrisky, as she’s fires back at him after he had blasted her recently.

The drama is said to have started after TV star chose to align herself with the male barbie’s sworn enemy, Toyin Lawani.

The cross dresser is ceasing every chance to remind all that cares to listen, of all he did for the ex-big brother housemate.

He particularly seems to derive pleasure in stating the fact that he bought her an iPhoneX. For what it’s worth, it looks like Nina has had enough of it.

Amidst the clash, he said she deserved to be humiliated following a troll by social media influencer, Tunde Ednut.

Bobrisky went on to say that he regrets supporting her and giving her an iPhone X.

Nina however took to her Instastories to say she would love to return the gadget whenever he wants it back.

It should be recalled that a while after she left the Big Brother house, Nina got trolled by the same Tunde Ednut for supposedly using an Android phone – this caused Bobrisky (who was still supporting her then) to stand up for her and get her an iPhoneX alongside Tonto Dikeh.

Well, Nina won’t have any of the humiliation anymore as she’s taken to her page to tell the cross dresser that she’d like to return the iPhone X.

    She wrote,

“Please i really do not want to sound rude but @bobrisky222 i still have the phone you gave me courtesy of @tontolet intact and unused, ready to be returned at any time and any day of your choice thanks”

The pretty, sexy king: The Story of Bobrisky

Famed as Africa’s male Barbie, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky, never shies away from controversies. In spite of the criticisms against his personality, the 25-year- old beautician is resolute on living his life the way he wants, writes OLAITAN GANIU.

    Controversy over arrest by Police

Following the news of the ‘arrest’ of Nigerian internet personality and beautician, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky, for allegedly proclaiming himself as gay, the police have cleared him.

“I don’t know about the arrest, and the command did not arrest him,” the Lagos State Acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, said on Wednesday.

“He does not have any problem with the command. Ask him who arrested him.”

More so, the Police Public Relations Officer for Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, SP Dolapo Badmos, also denied the arrest of the cross-dresser.

She said, “I am not aware of the arrest. Maybe he was arrested somewhere else.”

On Tuesday, the internet was awash with stories of the arrest of the Nigerian Snapchat Queen by police officers attached to a Lekki police station for coming out as gay in an Instagram post.

“All these house boys and girls coming to drop comment on page are you all stupid?” Bobrisky wrote.

“Do you think your hate comments can change me? Why are you trying so hard to get my attention?… If all your insult bothered me, I should have stopped posting here. Yes am gay, I will go to hell fire. Thanks. Please what else? I’m tired of those same words. I wanna hear something new.”

Though he later deleted the post, the attention had begun because in previous interviews, Bobrisky, despite his effeminate ways of cross-dressing, wearing make-up, had always denied being gay. While the allegation of being gay had always hung over Bobrisky, some people thought it was strange that such could warrant the police to arrest him, given his controversial posture as a cross-dresser and skin bleaching cream agent. In fact, another report speculated that behind Bobrisky’s arrest is connected to a running battle with socialite Toyin Lawani, an allegation which Lawani’s crew have refuted. But Bobrisky does not believe it.

On Wednesday, Bobrisky accused Toyin Lawani of being behind his ordeal.

“Toyin Lawani asked her lawyer to write petitions against me claiming that I worked for her and I’m selling cream to all her customers,” he revealed to Linda Ikeji Blog. Lawani had allegedly called him a riff-raff during a social media rift.

“Which was a fat lie? I never worked for Toyin. She was my friend. I can’t remember ever working for Toyin or learning how to make cream from her.

“Then she also said I threatened her. So we are going to Abuja because that was where the case was reported. Before she wrote petitions against me, she had already threatened me that she is giving me 7 days to go to the internet and apologize to her which I said no way because she offended me. I think because I refused to apologize, she got the police involved.”

Bobrisky also said the police took his phones and was told he would need to wait until the next morning to go to Abuja. In 2016, police arrested Bobrisky for allegedly beating up a lady who allegedly took photos of him.

    His early days

While almost every human society throughout history followed norms and designated conventions of cultural behaviours including clothing for each genders or age, there exist some exceptions.  But who is exactly is this fair-complexioned Bobrisky, perhaps, Nigeria’s most famous cross-dresser who falls into such category.

Bobrisky who lost his mother in 2008 was born in 1992 in Ebutte Meta, Lagos into a Muslim family. And in interview conducted in 2016, Bobrisky said he coined his brand name by adding ‘risky’ to Bobo, the name his family called him as a child.

“I was born in a polygamous family,” said Bobrisky who attended Kings College, Lagos before attending University of Lagos, where he graduated from the department of accounting. He lost his mother

“My dad has three wives. My mom is the last wife and I, the last born of the family. My family use to call me Bobo while growing up. I was like, ‘let me add risky because I love to take risk.’ That’s why I came up with Bobrisky.”

    The skin-whitening business

AND in 2014, Bobrisky got trapped in his biggest risk, cross-dressing, due to peer pressure, he said. It would also take another risk – him being mocked for being dark in complexion – for Bobrisky to discover his now lucrative bleaching cream business.

“I went to Dubai with my friends (and) while gisting, a naughty friend just said, I’m too black that I need to bleach maybe to chocolate or tone up a little,” he said.

“I was like lemme try to tone up, but the cream made (me) to have scratches, dark spots and dark knuckles. I was like lemme kuku make everything blend since I have no choice.”

After Bobrisky turned from black to white, he abandoned his unisex shop at Ikeja, where he sold ladies’ wears and started selling the cream to his admirers.

“As a cream seller and make-up artiste, I put everything on, to advertise my product – bobrisky is not doing it lure men. People starting adding me on Snap and Instagram because of my makeup and bleaching cream. I sold my cream to other countries like Gambia, Zimbabwe, Canada, Austria and UK, the blog there are promoting my business on their blog.”

Since then, his brand of cream has attracted wealthy clientele and the Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State indigene, with his social media presence, has gradually become one of Nigeria’s most controversial internet personality. He also sells expensive skin-whitening reams which go for as much as 100, 000 naira as he writes about his ostentatious life on social media. He has also reportedly got invites to elite gigs and even made a debut as an actor in a movie, Ojuloge, with Tayo Sobola and Toyin Afolayan. And for a week last year, Bobrisky came out tops on Google search. Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Anglophone West Africa, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, in a statement disclosed that Bobrisky was most searched on the global search engine between October 26 and November 2, 2016.

“Top trending searches on Google this week went from a fashionable man with a different dress sense to a search for a chemistry, which is neither a subject nor love bond,” said Kola-Ogunlade.

“Bobrisky, ‘Africa’s Male Barbie’ became a search interest this week after a presidential aide pulled off from a new media conference, because he could not share the stage with the social media sensation.

“Bobrisky had earlier dominated Google search some months back, for cross-dressing, use of makeup and stories of highlife with a secret ‘bae’.”

The gay allegation and sexual harassment

APART from his sexy voice and mannerisms, dressings like a woman, Bobrisky recorded more followers, mostly males, on his Snapchat account when he claimed he has boyfriend, known as BAE. Though, he refused to reveal his mysterious friend’s gender, he would use ‘him’ when talking about his BAE. And in October 2016, Bobrisky posted a photo where he posed with N7 million which he received from his ‘BAE.’

“Many times, men have mistaken me for a woman because of my feminine looks,” Bobrisky said, denying being gay, despite ‘twerking and whining’ on social media.

“And they have tried to lure him to bed with money and have failed.”

Though Bobrisky said he is currently single after his girlfriend left him because he wore make-up, he plans to settle down and have a family.

“One day, we went out for a dinner and a white man was staring at me,” she said of how he and his girlfriend separated.

“She got notice and she broke up with me. Since then, I’ve been dating other women but I’m not ready to settle down.”

    Life in a homophobic society

IN Nigeria, involvement in same-sex relationships is punishable with 14 years’ imprisonment as prescribed by the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act (SSMPA) which became a law in 2013. However, arrests are infrequent as homosexuals live in hiding. Hence, it is ironic that the social media account of Bobrisky which tends toward homosexuality is very active. The two major religions practiced in the country – Christianity and Islam also frown against homosexual acts. While the bible in Deuteronomy 22:5 which reads ‘”A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this,’ frowns against cross-dressing, Sharia law prescribes death for people found guilty of engaging in same-sex acts.

    Expert’s view on cross-dressing

A psychologist warns that cross-dressers may begin wearing clothing associated with the opposite sex in childhood, using the clothes of a sibling, parent, or friend. Some parents have said they allowed their children to cross-dress and, in many cases, the child stopped when they became older.

At 25, perhaps, it is not yet time for Bobrisky to change.

  • Jibes, as police arrest Bobrisky over gay claim

Jibes, as police arrest Bobrisky over gay claim

Nigerian Twitter yesterday erupted following news of the arrest of social media sensation, Idris Okuneye.

Although several reasons have been given for his arrest, most seem to go with the fact that it has to do with his coming out as gay.

In a post earlier in the week, he stated; “All this house boys and girls coming to drop comment on page are you all stupid? Do you think your hate comments can change me? Why are you trying so hard to get my attention?… If all your insult bothered me, I should have stopped posting here. Yes am gay, I will go to hell fire. Thanks. Please what else? Am tired of that same words. I wanna hear something new.”

Another report has it that the bleaching cream merchant was arrested at the instance of Toyin Lawani on the grounds of slander.

Reacting to the arrest, most Twitter users seem to think he has gone back to being a guy, suggesting that his gender is in contention.

For instance, a Twitter user, @deetwogod chirped; “But why will they arrest BOBRISKY?? What offence did he …sorry what offence did she….  Oya sorry what offence did it commit?

Another user, @ezxmuoh is of the opinion that Bobrisky admitting to being gay openly in a country where it is a crime makes him nothing but foolhardy.

For @harbjar, it all boils down to one question. “Will Bobrisky be jailed in the male section or female section of the prison???”

Meanwhile, Bobrisky has spoken out for the first time since he was arrested on Tuesday. Speaking to the popular Linda Ikeji Blog, he stated that Toyin Lawani was the one who called for his arrest, accusing him of stealing his customers.

“Toyin Lawani asked her lawyer to write petitions against me that I worked for her and I’m selling cream to all her customers. Which was a fat lie. I never worked for Toyin. She was my friend. I can’t remember ever working for Toyin or learning how to make cream from her. Then she also said I threatened her. So we are going to Abuja cos that was where the case was reported,” he was quoted as saying.

However, Lawani’s camp has washed its hands off the arrest. Speaking through her Personal Assistant, the entrepreneur denied having anything to do with his arrest.

Bobrisky, who is famous for being a cross-dresser, was arrested on Tuesday by the Lagos state police.

  • FCT residents react to the rise in cross-dressing among men in Nigeria

FCT residents react to the rise in cross-dressing among men in Nigeria

Some residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday expressed surprise by the rise in the number and societal acceptance of cross-dressed men across the country.

Cross-dressers are people who wear clothing typical of the opposite sex; in this case however, popular among men who dress as women.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that police officials made various arrests of young men who have allegedly defrauded wealthy men in Lagos, Zamfara, Rivers and Abuja by presenting themselves as women.

Some of the residents who spoke to NAN said that it was astonishing how young Nigerians seem to be accepting the idea of cross-dressing.

Joy Nduka, a makeup artist, said that she was surprised by the fact that more Nigerians were aaccepting the idea of cross-dressing.

“I first heard of this concept in Nigeria last year when it was in the news that some men dressed like women to dupe rich men they met at bars and hotels.

“I found it a bit funny at first that some men could be easily deceived in that manner by their fellow men.

“However, I later realised that we all focused on the men who were robbed and not on the men who were comfortable dressing like women to commit the crimes.

“It shows the trend is gradually being accepted among Nigerians,’’ she said.

Victor Itamunoala, a marketer, said “We have always had popular TV personality, Denrele Edun, who remain a controversial figure because of his cross-dressing fashion.

“His fashion concept has always had a hint of feminism in it be it with makeup, hairstyles, high shoes and more.

“Nigerians were against his fashion but these days, many people seem to support him and he has inspired more men to dress that way.

“We have gradually seen a number of Nigerian social media personalities become popular for being cross-dressers and the most popular one today is the man that calls himself the `Snapchat queen’, Bobrisky.

“Bobrisky, originally known as Okuneye Idris, has gradually become a celebrity by acting and dressing as a woman.

“We all watched him transform from a dark skinned man to a light skinned woman who now travels the world and gets paid in pounds and dollars by Nigerian fans who take pictures with him.

“This is insane and appalling, especially as all these famous cross-dressers claim to have connections among politicians.

“The next thing we will see is same sex marriage being legalised in Nigeria, this is how such things start’’ he said.

Another resident, Ndidi John said that the trend was catching on among youths because of the influence of foreign movies.

“You cannot eliminate the role of social media, foreign films and now Nigerian celebrities that engaged in cross dressing on the youths.

“But I personally believe that most of them will grow out of it as the advance in age and become less rebellious,” she said.

  • Beauty making is like forest – Expert

Beauty making is like forest – Expert

For Josephine Emmanuels, beauty making is like a forest. The skin therapist and CEO of Beauty Forest has revealed the secrets behind beauty at large. In this interview with FAMUYIWA DAMILARE, she discussed how inner beauty reflects on the outside.

As a beauty therapist, what does beauty mean to you?
Beauty means a lot of things to me, but I love telling a lot of people that beauty starts from inside not outside. Your take-in reflects on your body, so if you really don’t take care of yourself, there is nothing called beauty.
You can apply lots of makeup and use so many natural organic products, but if you don’t eat quality things, all the organic products won’t work effectively. So beauty starts from inside out, and it is what you take inside that will reflect on your outward appearance.

What actually motivated you into this business line?

Well, I have been a beauty person since I was in secondary school. I can plait hair and also barb it at the same time. So, it’s like passion to me, it’s what I can do for free. I’m not money conscious about it, I do so many things, but talking about beauty, it is what I enjoy doing. I see it as a calling I have to fulfil and I feel good doing it.

How do you come up with the concept of Beauty Forest?

As a woman, I love it when I go to a particular spot and get everything I want in that spot. I hate it when I go to a salon and I have to go to another salon to get my nails done, also to another place to do my make-up. That was how and why I came up with Beauty Forest.
Aside from being a skin therapist, I’m also a stylist and I’m into bridals too, I do pedicure, manicure and I’m also a make-up artist. So, that is how I came up with the name ‘Beauty Forest’. My place is a place where you can come and get everything, it’s just like when you go to a forest, you will see many trees. As many trees make a forest when you come to my own place, you get to see many things and you will be satisfied.

Talking about Bobrisky, how will you compare yourself and other household names in this business?

Like what I usually tell people every day, the real ones will stand and the fake ones will fall off. When you go on the internet, you will see lots of skin therapist, they are everywhere, lots of adverts. So, talking about the competition in the market, well, what I will say in terms of Bobrisky is that, seeing is believing. If you see some skin therapist, I assure you that you will run away, many people call me that they want to see me, and I always tell them to feel free to come, so when they see me, they will have to check me out first and when they see my skin is looking so healthy, not totally white like some kind of a bleached chemical skin. When they see I have this natural organic glowing skin and with that, I think they are convinced that this person is okay. So that is my own area of where I can compete with them. I’m pretty sure some skin therapist can’t come out and show themselves.

There was a trending picture of Bobrisky on the Instagram with rashes on his face, what will you say concerning that?

Yes, I think I saw the picture, but not just him. I know lots of skin therapist in this Lagos, if you see them, you will run away, even people that go to their stores to get stuff, calls and be like “my skin has been damaged.” why won’t they damage your skin, after seeing how the skin of therapist herself looks like and you decided to trust your skin with that person.
