Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership highest scorer in the regular season , Bolaji Olamide of Remo Stars Ladies, shares her initial love for barbering professional amongst other sundry issues in an interesting conversation with TUNDE LIADI…
Despite playing only in their second season in the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership, Remo Stars Ladies defied all odds to qualify for the season’s ending Super 6 Playoffs. They have been excellent for the most part of the season churning impressive results both home and away.
The Ikenne-based side finished second in Group A behind Edo Queens with an impressive 30 points out of 42 points on offer despite being pooled together with more experienced Nasarawa Amazons and Abia Angels. They netted 28 goals in just 14 games which was the best in Group A even better than Edo Queens (27 goals), and Nasarawa Amazons (21 goals). In fact they were the third best attacking side combined in the topflight only behind FC Robo Queens (31 goals) and Rivers Angels (30 goals) throughout the regular season.
The Wemimo Matthew-led Remo Stars Ladies owed most of their achievements in the regular season to the scoring proficiency of Olamide Titilayo Bolaji.
The 21-year-old attacking pearl helped the Ikenne side to the Super Six ticket as she scored 14 goals from 14 games and having five assists. She was the highest scorer in the 2025 NWFL Premiership regular season and has added a goal to it during the ongoing the Super Six. The only goal that buried Naija Ratels in their second game.
The attacker was responsible for half of Remo Stars Ladies goals tally and her partnership with Kafayat Bashiru who scored nine goals for a combined 23 goal out of 28 would definitely be the most dreaded attacking combo in the 2025 NWFL Premiership regular season.
Olamide believes Remo Stars Ladies have the wherewithal to chase the league title after their narrow penalty shootout defeat to Rivers Angels in the President Federation Cup women’s quarter final tie recently played in Benin.
Meanwhile, Remo Stars Ladies began the NWFL Premiership Super Six in barnstorming session beating Edo Queens and Naija Ratels 1-0 each before their 2-0 loss to Bayelsa Queens on Tuesday. They are still in the race for the Super Six which guarantees the league title.
“Well, in my team we don’t play under any pressure. We play with peace of mind, and in unity knowing that we are leaving everything in the hands of God. That’s the believe of our coach and her teachings,” Olamide, who had also played for Abia Angels and Sunshine Queens told NationSport.
“We also know that we have a good coach whose tactics we believe in with so much convictions. So, for the Super six, our fans belief in us and we do not have pressure at all from any angle for team Remo Stars because it’s our home and we have God on our side too.
Olamide’s pace and hard work on the pitch is second to none but this wonderful skills would have been lost to barbering profession had the attacker continued with her pursuit of owning a grooming and beauty parlour.
“If I’m not a footballer I would have been a professional barber because I once owned a haircut salon and was very good at it,” Olamide, the barber turned goal-poacher disclosed.
The striker opened up on her admiration for Napoli hitman Romelu Lukaku and his style of play.
“ (Romelu) Lukaku inspires me a lot,” she said. “His work rate is very high. He is very powerful and highly intelligent at scoring goals .
“He is a Big attacker and I’m big too,” she added with smiles.
She also stated that it would be a dream comes true for her to join the ever growing list of Nigerian players plying their trade in one of the top leagues in Europe.
“I am actually trusting in God that at the end of super six I would be able to secure a foreign deal where I am hoping to go to and shine again. I want to make a career progress by taking my football skills abroad.”
She revealed that her happiest day till date was when she was invited to the Super Falcons’ double header against Algeria last October , adding she was over the moon after being offered a chance to play in the two encounters against the North Africans.
She offered: “My happiest day was when I was invited to the Super Falcons camp , it was shocking to me but I didn’t take it for granted. I blessed God for the opportunity and hoping that I would get more of it in the near future.”
She also gave her sending off in a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Guinea in Conakry as a part of the Flamingos as her saddest day knowing the importance of the game and what her red card meant to the team.
Olamide hinted that she could not hold back her tears but was consoled with the result of the game which they won 11-2 on aggregate before the qualifiers were annulled as a result of Covid-19. They were supposed to play Ghana’s Black Maidens in the last qualifying round before it was stopped.
“My saddest day was when I was red carded in a World Cup qualifier(for India 2020) against Guinea when I was playing for the U17, I wept so much that night,” she revealed.
The 2025 NWFL Premiership regular season highest scorer expressed her admiration for Abula and her unyielding love for play station and car racing.
