    Kogi commissioner hands over drug-inhaling students to NDLEA

    Mrs. Bolanle Amupitan, Kogi Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, has handed over to the NDLEA; two students caught smoking banned substance behind the fence of the ministry.

    The students, aged 15 and 18, were from Bishop Delise College, Lokoa.

    The commissioner also handed over the substance to the drug agency for identification and advice on possible measures to stop children from such bad habits.

    She advised the NDLEA to rehabilitate the two students and others like them, and urged parents to sensitize their children on the need to avoid banned substances.

    She also advised parents to monitor the company kept by their children so as to rid them of bad gangs.

    “Parents should always find time to talk to their children and know the type of people they mingle with because most of these strange attitudes are picked from friends.

    “We must join hands together to care for our children because they are the leaders of tomorrow,” she said.

    She mandated three senior officials of the ministry to carry out a detailed investigation on the matter and report back to her within the shortest possible time.

    Kogi to partner NDLEA on drug abuse

    Lokoja, Aug. 24, (2017) Mrs Bolanle Amupitan, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Kogi, on Thursday said the state government would collaborate with the National Drug Law Enforcement agency (NDLEA) to control drug abuse in the state.

    Amupitan, who disclosed this while receiving NDLEA officials in Lokoja, said the state government would participation in this year’s commemoration of the international drug abuse day in the state.

    She also said that the state government would support drug addicts to overcome their challenges.

    She described poverty, marital problems and lack of parental care as some of the causes of drug abuse and called for support to rehabilitate the addicts.

    She assured the agency of the government supports, adding that there was an initiative of the Northern Governor’s Wives Forum (NGWF) to tackle the menace of drug abuse among the youths.

    The commissioner said the governor’s wife, Mrs Rashida Bello, would participate in this year’s celebration to encourage parents to guide their children against drug abuse.

    Earlier, the Commander of NDLEA in the state, Idris Bello, said the agency was ready to partner the state government to control the menace of drug abuse in the state.

    Kogi donates food, drugs cash to 18 orphanages

    The Kogi Government on Monday distributed food, drugs, sanitary items and cash to 18 registered orphanages across the state.

    Mrs. Bolanle Amupitan, the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, who handled the exercise, said that the gesture was aimed at improving the living standards of the orphans.

    “Government has resolved that the children must be well fed; we have resolved never to allow the circumstances of their birth to define their future,” she said.

    Mrs. Clara Owosagba, Matron, Stagi Orphanage, Lokoja, one of the benefiting Homes, while thanking government for the gesture, praised Gov Yahaya Bello’s efforts toward a better life for orphans.

    He said that it was the first government intervention enjoyed by the Home, and promised that the food items, drugs and toiletries would be used judiciously.

    Another beneficiary, Mrs. Elizabeth Okpanachi of GodsWill Orphanage, thanked the government for the support, and advised that the gesture be more regular so as to encourage the orphans.

    Other beneficiaries include Mercy Orphanage Home, Hope Orphanage, Ekundayo Orphanage, Ministry of Mercy,  among others.
