    Dankwambo condemns Gombe market blasts

    Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State has condemned the twin bomb blasts at the Gombe Central Market on Thursday.

    Dakwambo made the condemnation in Gombe on Friday during a sallah reception at the Government House.

    He said:“The situation is unfortunate; I want to seize this opportunity to sympathise with our brothers and sisters who were involved.

    “Those that lost their lives, we pray to God for the repose of their souls.”

    He further called on the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious move to security operatives.

    While commending security personnel for their “wonderful” work in the state and the country at large, the governor stressed that security was a collective responsibility.

    “We will continue to give them the necessary assistance; and to those who are on admission in hospital, they will be treated free of charge.”

    NAN reports that the governor had visited victims of the blast at the specialist hospital and Federal Teaching Hospital respectively, and gave them an undisclosed amount of money.

    Eight soldiers feared killed in bomb blast in Maiduguri

    About eight soldiers and other civilians have been reported killed in another bomb blast in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

    The suicide bomber was said to have targeted a military checkpoint near the Maimalari Military barracks along Baga road west of the metropolis after passing through other check point from Baga town.

    Boko Haram insurgents have continued a sustained suicide attacks on Maiduguri since President Mohammadu Buhari was sworn in on May 29, with no day passing by without an attack on the troubled city.

    Abdullahi Sabo who resides around Baga road told our correspondent that he heard a deafening sound like a heavy thunder storm at about 5:20pm. ” I later learnt that it occurred at a major checkpoint that lead to Brigadier Maimalari barracks along Baga road,” Sabo said.
    It was gathered that the bomber deliberately chose to detonate his device when residents were rushing back home ahead the 7pm curfew time.

    A Civilian JTF who pleaded for anonymity informed that many soldiers were killed in the attack. He added, “the bomber was clever to come to the checkpoint and stopped to be checked by the soldiers from a car when he triggered off his explosive. I counted about eight soldiers that were killed on the spot.”

    An impeccable military source who prefers anonymity confirmed the attack but however informed that the attack was not exactly on the check point but rather near the barracks.

    He said, “yes the blast occurred near the barracks and killed a number of people. But the suicide attack did not occur at exactly the checkpoint; it happened about 60meters meter away from the soldiers checkpoint.

    Breaking News: 15 killed in Kano College’s blast

    At least 15 students of the Federal College of Education, Kano, were killed in a suicide bomb attack in the institution on Wednesday, while 34 others were seriously injured.

    The Nation gathered that some people suspected to be terrorists had scaled the fence into the institution and started shooting randomly before two suicide bombers entered one of the classrooms in the college.

    One of the suicide bombers detonated the bomb which consumed him and killed the students.

    The other bomber went into the premises of the school and set himself ablaze, but nobody was killed or injured as the students had already scampered to safety.

    The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba, who was at the scene of the incident, confirmed that 15 student were killed, while 34 others were seriously injured.

    He said, “At about 1:30pm on Wednesday, some unidentified people climbed the fence of the Federal College of Education, Kano, and jumped into the school premises, where they started shooting sporadically to scare the students. Eventually one of the two suicide bombers gained entrance into one of the classrooms and set himself ablaze, killing 15 of the students and wounded 34 of them.

    “The other suicide bomber went to an open space where he set himself ablaze, but most of the students have scampered to safety and nobody was injured. Only the suicide bomber died. “

    He disclosed that two AK 47 rifles were recovered from the scene.

    Breaking: Second female bomber blown up in Kano

    Less than five hours after a female suicide bomber blew up herself at a mega filling station, Hotoro, while in a queue to procure kerosene, another female has blown up herself at the Kano trade fair complex today.

    The female suicide bomber, according to reports at about 2:00 pm positioned herself at the entrance of the trade fair complex, close to a shopping mall, where some security agents were drafted to secure the area.

    Immediately the security men noticed some foul play in the suicide bomber’s attempt to mix-up with the ever crowded shopping mall, promptly detonated the bomb, concealed in her Hijab and blew herself in the process.

    Contacted, spokesman of the Kano Police Command, ASP Magaji Musa Majia confirmed that four persons, including two police officers were injured in the suicide attack.

    Bomb Blast: Group commends doctors for patriotism

    A non governmental organization (NGO), under the aegis of Health Initiative Forum (HIF), yesterday in Kano, commended Resident Doctors in Kano and Kaduna states who voluntarily went back to work following the bomb blasts that rocked the two ancient cities.

    It will be recaled that the Resident Doctors Association of Nigeria had on July 1 embarked on strike to press home their demands to the government.

    Moved by the level of casualties recorded during the bomb attacks, the doctors decided to temporarily call off the strike for the sake of the blast victims.

    HIF praised the show of patriotism on the part of the professionals, adding that their swift reactions saved many lives that were having life threatening injuries.

    Chairman of the group, Alhaji Bala Danladi, during a chat with reporters, observed the human feeling in the hearts of the doctors that participated in the rescue operations and their leadership in the affected states.

    “Despite their perennial disagreement with the Federal Government, these doctors believe that the strike action should not stop them from showing love to Nigerians under such emergency situations.

    “We also believe that Nigerian doctors are not enemies of Nigerians as some elements were trying hard to make us believe. They love us and they still believe with the government genuine intervention in the health sector many things would improve according to international best practices,” he stated.

    While commending the widely circulated statement of the President of the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD), Dr Jibril Abdullahi, immediately after the happening of Kaduna blasts, the group urged federal government to make a second thought in her stand on the doctors’ demands.

    The group also said that they were impressed by the immediate action taken by the Kano branch chairman of NARD, Dr. Shamsudeen Mashi, who decided to call off the strike for the sake hapless Nigerians who were involved in the terror attack.

    According to Danladi, “the group learnt that immediately after the incidence of the New Road motor park, the Kano branch chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Sharfuddeen Mashi, confirmed to journalists that doctors were directed to go to the hospital and rescue victims.

    “This is a patriotic posture to the core from the part of doctors. We should therefore request government to also genuinely understand the critical work of our dear doctors in the country. Anything short of heeding to doctors’ demands will not augur well for the health sector in the country.

    “It is from the part of the government that you come to reluctant postulations in terms of respecting and fulfilling provisions of agreements reached by the two parties.”

  • Four killed in Gombe military barracks bomb blast

    At least three military men and a civilian were feared dead in Gombe when an explosion rocked a military formation in the state capital at about 11:30 am on Sunday.

    Sources said a suicide bomber, a woman approached the Quarter Guard area of the 301 Artillery Regiment under the pretence that she was going to lodge a complaint.

    She was said to have blown up herself and the three military personnel interrogating her at the entrance of the Quarter Guard.

    There was however disagreement  about the suicide bomber’s sex following widespread speculations that she was probably man who disguised as a woman to gain entrance to her destination.

    An eyewitness confirmed the explosion but however said he did not notice a woman around the spot when the  explosion occurred.

    Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Fwaje Atajiri DSP over the issue proved abortive as he did not  pick his call.

     

     

     

  • Update: Police confirm 14 dead, 12 injured in Adamawa blast

    The Adamawa Police Command has confirmed 14 people killed in the bomb blast at a football field in Mubi on Saturday.
    Twelve others were also said to have been injured in the incident.
    AFP quoting a police officer claimed that at least 40 people died in the attack targeted at football fans.
    “There has been a bomb explosion at a football field this evening and so far more than 40 people have been killed,” said the officer who requested anonymity in the town of Mubi, which has seen previous attacks by Boko Haram Islamists.
