    BORBDA partners with ministry, NDE to drive youth inclusion in agriculture 

    The Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA) has embarked on a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Youth Development and the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to promote youth participation in agriculture.

    This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on youth empowerment and food sustainability.

    BORBDA’s Managing Director, Dr. Olufemi Adekanmbi, led the Authority’s management team on courtesy visits to the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, and the Director-General of NDE, Silas Ali Agara.

    During the engagements, Dr. Adekanmbi presented BORBDA’s proposal to integrate NYSC Corps  members into its agricultural programmes.

    The proposal includes providing access to irrigated farmland, mechanized farming services, agricultural inputs, accommodation, security, and other essential support.

    The Managing Director emphasized that the initiative will equip corps members with hands-on agricultural training, enabling them to emerge as full-fledged agropreneurs in areas such as crop farming, aquaculture, and poultry production.

    The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande expressed strong support for the proposal and pledged the Ministry’s collaboration.

    At the National Directorate of Employment, discussions centered on leveraging BORBDA’s vast resources in partnership with the NDE to empower youth through agriculture.

    Adekanmbi stressed the importance of creating the right environment for youth participation in agriculture, stating, “Young people must begin to see agriculture as a business, not merely a vocation.”

    He added that training would also include water resource management and agro-logistics to encourage sustainable practices and long-term engagement.

    The initiative is set to benefit young people across BORBDA’s operational areas, including Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, and Delta States.

    By integrating youth into the agricultural value chain, BORBDA aims to achieve national food security goals outlined in President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

    He added that activating vast hectares of arable land under River Basin Authorities through the active participation of young people is crucial to achieving sustainable food security.

    BORBDA mulls measures on lower food prices

    The new management of the Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA) is considering measures aimed at crashing food prices.

    Managing Director, Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA), Dr. Femi Adekanbi, made the promise during a tour of the agency’s facilities in Edo State.

    He sought host communities’ assistance to achieve their objective, urging workers to be diligent and committed.

    “We are hopeful that this new chapter will bring fresh energy, innovative ideas, and a renewed sense of purpose to the river basin and in line with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring food sufficiency,” Adekanbi said.

    Also, Executive Director, Finance, BORBDA, Adegboyega Bamisile, assured investors of the safety of their investment.

    He noted that the sector needs collaboration from all to guarantee food security.

     “We, the new management team of BORBDA, will  guarantee any investor or partner security of their fund and will also ensure they get a return on investment that is very dynamic,” Bamisile said.

    He announced that the new management would conduct asset valuation of the BORBDA to know their assets and the liabilities ro enable them plan.

     Executive Director, Agric Services, Johnson Oghuma, called for efforts from stakeholders to improve on security around the Authority facilities to achieve food security.

    Recently, President Tinubu appointed Mr Mike Ezomo (Edo) as Chairman of the Benin-Owena Development Authority, and Femi Adekanbi (Ondo) as Managing Director.

    Other directors are Dr Austin Izagbo (Delta), Executive Director for Planning and Design; Mr Johnson Oghuma (Edo), Agricultural Services; Adegboyega Bamisile (Ekiti), Finance; and Bayode Akinduro (Ondo), Engineering.
