  • GOTV Boxing Night: It’s a fight of wits vs brawn-Fijabi

GOTV Boxing Night: It’s a fight of wits vs brawn-Fijabi

As the most successful boxer at the GOTV Boxing Night, Olaide Fijabi believes his bout against Saheed Olayiwola in a Light welterweight challenge would be a battle between wits and brawn.

Fijabi, who is eyeing the jackpot for the third time told Sportinglife yesterday that despite the physical ability of his opponent, he is sure that he would kiss the canvass early into the bout.

“I am still hoping and sure that I can win the jackpot again this time by winning the best boxer award because I am in shape for the tournament. From my research about my opponent, I noticed that I am a bit taller than him although he looks physical strong. But I must warn him that having the physical strength does not give any boxer an edge in any bout. He has the physical strength and I have the boxing sense and I believe it is a bout against sense and physical power,” he said.

With 100 per cent records in his two previous fights since turning professional, the former National Sports Festival medalist says he hopes to take his fine form in the GOTV Night to the National Championship in December to be able to take his boxing trade to the West African region.

“For this third I think my experience and knowledge the boxing trade will surely come to fore against my opponent. I believe all these qualities will surely give me an edge over him,” he said.

“I am looking forward to the national championship holding in December so that I can move out of Nigeria to contest for the West African title and later proceed to Commonwealth title. This is my dream for next year and I believe that with this GOTV championship, I will surely be prepared to aim for the best in 2016,” Fijabi explained.
