    KALU UCHE HITS BRACE

    NIGERIA international Kalu Uche is now joint top scorer in Turkey after his brace earned Kasimpasa victory over Orduspor.

    The ex-UD Almeria of Spain striker is now joint top scorer in Turkey with 17 goals same as Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz.

    Uche, who has been recalled to the Super Eagles by coach Stephen Keshi, opened scoring for Kasimpasa in the 10th minute and completed his brace in the 42nd minute to give Kasimpasa a 2-0 win.

    Kasimpasa are now fourth on the table with 46 points from 30 games. They will be counting on more goals by the Nigeria striker to secure ticket for European football next season.

    Oboabona’s brace nails Wikki

    SUNSHINE Stars skipper, Godfrey Oboabona found his goalscoring formula as he scored a brace in the Akure Gunners’ 3-0 victory over Wikki Tourists on Sunday.

    The Super Eagles defender nodded into the net in the 42nd minute after he connected with a Cletus Itodo cross.

    As the second half got to its closing 10 minutes, Dele Olorundare scored the Akure Gunners’ second as his well taken shot from 25yards in the 83rd minute caught Wikki Tourists goalkeeper, Babangida Yusuf off guard, to the delight of Sunshine Stars fans at the Akure Township Stadium.

    Oboabona then put the icing on the cake as the AFCON 2013 winning defender then made it two for himself and three goals for Sunshine Stars in the 89th minute when he scored from the spot kick.

    Gambo’s brace sinks 3SC

    Gambo Mohammed scored in the 18th and 60th minute, to hand Kano Pillars a 2-0 win over Shooting Stars of Ibadan in a Matchday Four tie of the Nigeria Professional Football League played in Kano.

    The Oluyole Warriors, who have now played in Port Harcourt and Kano within eight days, were the early tormentors but were caught napping in the 18th minute when Gambo’s left footed drive flew into the net.

    The Ibadan side then played with their backs to the wall as Pillars looked for a second, with Dele Ajiboye – in goal for Shooting Stars – making two crucial saves. The quartet of Tony Edjomariegwe, Moses Ogaga, Asuquo Phillips and Okiki Afolabi then turned up the heat, but they failed to break down a resolute Pillars defence.

    Edjomariegwe would be the biggest culprit as he missed a glaring chance with Theophilus Afelokhai beaten. Then Gambo finished the job with a second goal.

    Emeghara nets brace for Siena

    Nigeria-born striker Innocent Emeghara is enjoying a new lease of life with Siena, a club he joined on loan during the January transfer window.

    Emeghara , now the idol of the fans, netted a brace in Siena’s 3 – 0 surprise win over Lazio on Monday night.

    He said in his post-match comments: ”Of course I’m happy that I scored two goals against Lazio. As a striker, it is always great to score goals, but the main thing is the result of the team.

    ”Despite the score, the match was difficult, because Lazio have several very good players.”

    The 23-year-old has now scored four goals in his last three matches in the Italian championship.

    AC Siena can purchase Emeghara outright when his loan deal expires in the next four months. He has contractual obligations with Lorient until June, 2015.

    LEVANTE 3-1 Granada: Martins nets brace on birthday

    Super Eagles forward and Levante striker Obafemi Martins was in superlative form for his side on Sunday grabbing two goals in the 12th and 61st minutes respectively to the delight of teammates and coach Juan Ignacio.

    The former Rubin Kazan forward, who was recently given a be-ready-to-return-to-Eagles notice, by coach Steven Keshi ahead of the AFCON Championship in South Africa, was a tormentor-in-chief against visiting Granada from the first blast of the whistle.

    Although the former Wolfsburg forward, who has now scored four goals for Levante, got a yellow card in the 45th minute, he was not detered as he went ahead to grab a 61st minute goal in style.

    Martins, who has scored seventeen goals in 32 appearances for Nigeria, has since arriving Levante become a must-play for the side. Compatriot and former Nigeria U-20 ace Odion Ighalo who stars for visisting Granada came into the match in the 56st minute but failed to turn the table. Levante’s third goal was scored by Pedro Rios in the 73rd minute after enjoying an assist from Michel. The visitors’ consolation goal came in the 85th minute by Egyptian import Youssef EL-Arabi.

    Super Eagles forward and Spartak Moscow striker Emmanuel Emenike was the toast of fans as he fired the side to an emphatic 3-1 home victory over visiting Rostov on Sunday

    The former Fernabahce ace left no one in doubt that he had overcome the recent 3-2 defeat to Barcelona at the Nou Camp in the Champions League when he shot Spartak into the lead in the 27th minute. Teammate and Brazilian import Ari Da Silva Ferreira increased the tally in the 64th minute. Emenike then returned with a bang in the 71st minute for the third goal before Rostov got a consolation goal in barely two minutes to the end of the encounter through Florent Sinama Pongolle.

    Spatark Moscow are currently on the 6th position in the 16-team Russia Premier League with 16 points in nine matches, five points away from league leaders CSKA moscow with 21 points in nine matches. Rostov’s defeat Sunday further compound the side’s woes on 12th position with nine points in nine matches.

    Emenike, who saw 90 minutes of action, enjoyed assists from teammates José Manuel and home boy Pavel Yakovlev respectively to achieve Sunday’s feat.

    Compatriot and former Super Eagles defender Isaac Okoronkwo, who recently returned from injury, was in full action for Rostov putting up a good show, but his effort could not prevent the side from defeat.
