Branthwaite signs new five-year Everton contract

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has signed a new five-year deal with the club.

The 23-year-old, who joined the Toffees from Carlisle United in January 2020, was the subject of two rejected bids from Manchester United last summer.

He also attracted interest from a number of clubs this summer – including Chelsea and Tottenham.

But Everton regard him as an important part of the club’s plans as they move from Goodison Park to a new era at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

“I’m over the moon,” said Branthwaite, whose contract had been due to end in 2027.

“It’s been something we’ve been talking about since the end of the season and to get it signed now is something I’m really excited about.

“The trust the club’s put in me and how many games I’ve played over the past two seasons has made it quite an easy decision for me to stay and to keep progressing as a player.”

Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite has signed a new contract committing him to the club until June 2027.

Branthwaite, 21, moved to Goodison Park from Carlisle in January 2020 and had loan spells at Blackburn and PSV Eindhoven before establishing himself in the Toffees first-team this season.

The defender was also part of the Young Lions squad that won the European Under-21 Championship over the summer.

“Since I joined, I’ve felt a connection with the club,” said Branthwaite.

“The stature of the club, how much of a family it is at Everton and how I just love playing here in front of the fans were key reasons for me signing.

“To sign this new contract was to show the commitment I have for the club and show how much it means to me to play for Everton.”

Branthwaite made his Toffees debut as an 18-year-old in July 2020 and has gone on to make 17 appearances.

He has started six of Everton’s nine matches so far this season after returning from a successful loan spell at PSV last campaign, where he played 36 times and won the Dutch Cup.

“Jarrad is an excellent player with huge potential and his new contract is richly deserved after the way he has played for us so far this season, having gained key experience on loan at PSV last term,” said Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell.
