  • Man ‘stabs’ co-tenant with broken bottle

    A 24-year-old man, Idowu Tiamiyu, yesterday appeared at an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing his co-tenant, Seun Olapade, with a broken bottle on the head and hand.

    Tiamiyu pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecutor Ferdinand Asu said the defendant committed the offence on November 8 at their house.

    He said the defendant beat up Olapade to a pulp and also stabbed him.

    “The fight started as a result of an argument that ensued between them. The defendant claimed that the complainant was rude to him; so he decided to teach him a lesson by beating him up.

    “Efforts by other tenants to settle the dispute failed,” Asu said.

    Chief Magistrate Michael Olubi granted the defendant N50, 000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    He adjourned till December 12.

  • Man ‘stabbed to death with broken bottle’

    Yesterday remanded in prison on the orders of an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

    Akinsanya, 23, is facing a charge of murder.

    Prosecuting Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the offence was committed on March 25 at Oto Transformer, off Oke Ira-Nla in Ajah on Lagos-Epe Expressway.

    Suddenly in the heat of an argument, the accused brought out a bottle of Chelsea dry gin and stabbed the deceased on his leg and bled to death, he said.

    “The accused was later caught in Ijebu-Ode in Ogun where he absconded to.”

    Magistrate A.O. Adegite directed that the accused should remain in prison pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    She adjourned the case till June 4.

  • Undergraduate ‘stabs’ man with broken bottle

    A 28-year-old student, Yinka Olawale, has been charged with allegedly stabbing a man, who prevented him from stabbing his own mother, at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

    The accused was arraigned before the Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Akokhia, on a three-count charge of breach of peace, conspiracy and assault.

    Olawale, a resident of Iju-Ishaga, a Lagos suburb, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail at N100,000 with two sureties.

    Akokhia said the sureties should be employed with an evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State government.

    Prosecutor Clement Okuoimose had told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 7 at his home.

    He alleged that the accused and three others at large conspired and stabbed Mr. Kolawole Olatunji in the head and body with a broken bottle.

    Okuoimose said the accused allegedly conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by arming himself with axes and broken bottles, causing panic in the community.

    The case was adjourned till May 5 for mention.

     

  • Man arraigned for stabbing

    A man, Ramoni Kareem, who allegedly stabbed a man on the head with a broken bottle, is facing trial at an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

    The 38-year-old, who lives at No. 42, Debola St., Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota, has pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused and others still at large committed the offences on March 30 at about 2.00 p.m. at Ijako in Ota.

    He said the accused and his accomplices assaulted a man, Emmanuel Ojo, by stabbing him with a broken bottle on the head.The offences contravened Sections 355 and 416 of the Criminal Code,  Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    In his ruling, the Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N75,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Banwo said the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

    The case was adjourned until May 3 for hearing.

  • Man chases people with broken bottle

    A 21-year-old man, Yusuf Adepoju, was yesterday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly chasing people with a broken bottle to stab them.

    The accused was arraigned before Magistrate A.A Adesanya on a three-count charge of attempt to commit felony, assault and breach of peace.

    Adepoju pleaded not guilty and was granted N50,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    Prosecuting Inspector George Nwosu said the accused committed the offence last December 11 at Oshodi, Lagos.

    Nwosu said the accused behaved in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by breaking bottles and chasing people in order to stab them.

    “The accused met a boy fetching water at a market tap; he threw the boy’s bucket away; when the boy protested, the accused descended on him through beating.

    “When the Iyaloja (market women leader) tried to stop him from beating the innocent boy, the accused held her shirt and in the process she lost her gold chain valued at N100,000.

    “The accused went further to pick a bottle at a nearby shop, smashed it on the ground and was chasing the market leader with the broken bottle,” he said.

    Nwosu said the accused also attempted to stab the market chairman whose attention was drawn to the case.

    “When the market chairman rushed to the scene, he tried to stop the accused from stabbing the market women leader; the accused transferred his aggression to him.

    “He started chasing the chairman with the broken bottle until the police was called and he was arrested,” he said.

    The prosecutor said the accused threatened to set the market ablaze.

    He said the offence contravened Sections 56 and 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    Section 56 prescribes one year jail term for the offence.

    The case was adjourned till January 25.

    Man gets bail for ‘stabbing’ neighbour with broken bottle

    A 26-year-old-man, Frank Chinazor, who allegedly stabbed his neighbour with broken bottle, was yesterday granted N50,000 bail by a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

    Magistrate Ipaye Nwachukwu, however, ordered the accused to produce two sureties in like sum, and that one of the sureties should be his blood relation.

    Nwachukwu also ordered that the other surety must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payments to the state government.

    The accused residing on 15, Owolabi Street, in Aguda-Surulere area of Lagos, is facing a charge of assault.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Anthonia Osayande told the court that the accused committed the offence at his residence around 12.30am on October 25.

    Osayande said Chinazor unlawfully assaulted his co-tenant, Chidi Maduneche, by using a broken bottle to inflict cuts on his body.

    She further alleged that the duo has had a disagreement prior to the day of the incident of October 25.

    The prosecutor further told the court that the accused stabbed the complainant after a renewed argument that night.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    Magistrate Nwachukwu adjourned the case till December 1.

    Man docked for ‘stabbing’ friend with broken bottle

    An unemployed man, Jamiu Abdul-Rafiu, who allegedly stabbed his friend with a broken bottle, has appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

    The accused, 32, whose address is unknown, was docked before Magistrate A. Oshodi-Makanju on assault.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Kemi Adeniran, insisted that the accused committed the offence on July 30 at Ajegunle Bus Stop in Ikorodu.

    Adeniran told the court that the accused used a broken bottle to stab his friend, Mr Obatola Oyinbile, on his left armpit.

    “The man is still in the hospital receiving treatment.’’

    Oshodi-Makanju granted the accused a N150,000 bail with two responsible sureties who must show evidence of tax payment.

    The case has been adjourned till August 25.
